want need

19.49€

Artist : Sandra Electronics

Label : Minimal Wave

want need / 12"

6-song ep by the UK/US duo Sandra Electronics. Originally formed as Sandra Plays Electronics by Karl O'Connor (aka Regis) in 1988, the project has evolved over the years to become a collaborative endeavor with Juan Mendez (aka Silent Servant). 3 of the tracks were 1st released as an 'Untitled' 10" on Downwards in 2010, and the record quickly sold out. Those songs have been re-edited and remastered for this ep, and 3 more rare demos and live versions have been added. The songs can be described as hypnotic industrial electronic mantras with enigmatic keyboards and treated vocals. Each track draws the listener in, with its repetitive psychedelic percussion and dark affected vocal. The record is a hand-numbered edition of 999 copies pressed on 180gr ultra clear vinyl, and housed in a high quality heavy weight printed sleeve featuring a vintage photograph of Samia Gamal.

Not much info on this obscure split 7"ep released on the prolific UK Downwards label. A-side is clearly minimal-synth wave orientated whereas B-side is more a kind of ritual abstract indusctrial tune. Not to be missed ;)

her needs

Artist : Sandra Plays Electronics

Label : Minimal Wave

her needs / 7"

7" release of primitive Diy electronics by Sandra Plays Electronics, a project founded by Karl O’Connor (Regis) whilst he was a teenager living in Birmingham, England in the 80's. O’Connor, mostly known for his pioneering work in the techno field (as Regis, Sandwell District, British Murder Boys, Ugandan Methods and various other entities) as well as his Downwards label, began playing and recording his own music when he was 16 years old. He collaborated with friends performing in short-lived bands such as Family Sex and also recorded on his own as Sandra Plays Electronics. He was heavily influenced by D.A.F., Liaisons Dangereuses, Cabaret Voltaire and Soft Cell, to name a few and would eventually collaborate with Robert Görl and also Chrislo Haas in the late 90's. The tracks we are presenting here are 2 versions of the same song, "Her Needs", both recorded in Birmingham, England. The 1st was recorded in 1988 during soundcheck at the College of Food And Domestic Arts and the second was recorded in 1999 (from the Man Has Responsibilities session) at the Ice House. Pressed on heavy weight 70gr ultra clear vinyl, the 7" is housed in a matte double sided printed foldover sleeve. Limited to 999 hand-numbered copies.

suggestive boy / 12"

Among many other things Saralunden proves to be a dismal disco star. On this ep she sounds like a stripped down and darker counterpart of Sally Shapiro, presenting moody and sexy music which is in some ways similar to the italo influenced stuff Chromatics is doing, and with the same twisted erotic vibe of Pulp. This is dirty disco and we like to dance to it and make out on it. Limited to 200 copies !

Artist : Savage Grounds

Label : Enfant Terrible

area of violence / 12"

Savage Grounds released their 1st 3 records with Lux Rec., of which one of the members from this Swiss duo is the label boss. This new ep is the 1st release coming out elsewhere. Savage Grounds have created a sound of their own. A sort of post-techno which combines elements of techno, elektro, EBM, acid and industrial. But these tracks will for sure also appeal to lovers of analogue synth music. The whole ep sounds like it has been recorded in an one take synth jam. Raw and fierce synth sounds for the body and soul. Edition of 250 copies, screen printed in black & gold sleeve !

la vida sigue igual

13.49€

Artist : Savage Hymn

Label : Dark Entries

la vida sigue igual / 12"

'La Vida Sigue Igual', the sophomore ep from Savage Hymn. The project is a collaboration between Miami born-and-bred Mystic Bill Torres (Trax, Relief, Classic) and native New Yorker Jake Reif (Device Control, Upsetting Keys). Jake spent some musically formative years in the Midwest, drawing influence from the cultures of Chicago and Detroit. Fueled by the underground energy of warehouse and loft parties of the era, he began his Dj career in the early 90's. Bill grew up going to goth and industrial clubs in Miami before moving to Chicago where he held residencies at clubs with Johnny Fiasco, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, and Ralphi Rosario. The duo is heavily influenced by the early Chicago house and Detroit techno sounds as well as European electronic body music like Front 242 and Liaisons Dangereuses. Their 1st release 'Indecision' was a white label for Rong Music in 2015. 'La Vida Sigue Igual' is immediately a more physical affair than its predecessor, kicking off with the title track, a hard hitting percussive monster. The sparse simplicity of the machine gun synth work & monotone Spanish vocals by Mystic Bill evoke classic 80's industrial and art house dance tracks. We've included the instrumental version for adventurous Djs who want play doubles. On the B-side are 2 versions of the track "Animals". Version 1 explores the underbelly of NY with maniacal industrial rhythms and samples from Diamanda Galas and Travis Bickle (Robert DeNiro) in Taxi Driver. Version 2 ventures into dark freestyle territory, fueled by the underground energy of Chicago's Warehouse and Medusas clubs. The vinyl comes housed in a jacket with hand drawn illustration of night time jungle themes designed by Eloise Leigh and screen printed in muted teal pantone on French environment paper by Stumptown Printers. Each ep includes a postcard with a black and white photograph of the duo.

Scape One, aka south coast based UK producer Kurt Baggaley, is one of the rising stars of the international electro scene, thanks in no small part to a series of acclaimed releases on labels such as World Electric, Mass Transit, Satamile and Electrix. Now a 4 track ep which hosts a range of styles & moods. "Fizzy Soda" kicks off with warm synths and funk breaks, simultaneously quirky and smooth. "Mindbridge" is slightly darker and more experimental, while on the flip "Avatar" aims for the dancefloor with pulses of pure electric funk. "Utopian Etude" closes off with gentle Plaid styled synth arpeggios and warm chords. Another release that is worthwhile holding the Emoticon name. Tip !

the future…it will never be the same / 12"

In the mid 90s, under the influence of Aux 88 and Drexciya, Scape One released some of the most seminal electro records of the day. This ep sees Scape One look back to the roots of the pure electro sound and inject it with some sci-fi futurism. 808 rhythms which would sound at home in an 80's old school electro production are updated, retrofitted and laid out on some hi-tech sounds originating from deep within Scape One's studio. One for electro freaks (past, present, future) looking for straight up unhinged metallic funk. According to us, probably the best release from this artist ;)

eternal return

19.49€

Artist : Scarlet Architect

Label : Genetic Music

eternal return / LP+CD

Genetic Music load up a real new-wave bullet, or 11 of them to be precise, from the very little known Scarlet Architect. Compiling the group's only release (an eponymous 4-track zinger issued in 1982 thru Coalition Records), together with 7 previously unreleased peaches from the same era, this is in effect their debut LP, exhibiting sharpened drum machine/dancefloor instincts coupled with an arch pop sound. Vocals are stately but almost cabaret in a sophisticated, ambiguous manner, whilst their grooves are slick and tight, layered with melodic synth hooks, at best in the eerie, Tuxedomoon-alike "Monetary Options", whilst the perkier funk of "Dance 'Til Dawn" recalls that Tomo Akikawabaya reissue on Minimal Wave and "Action Painting" sports some mental fusion of Prince and Devo by way of Russ Abott that needs to be heard to be believed.

30 years after the 1st release in 1982 the 'Psychotron' album has been repressed as a limited remastered collector edition by Private Records. The special thing about this release is not only the fact that this repress is an official and exact vinyl reproduction of the valuable cosmic, minimal synth cult album. Only for this release PJ Wassermann dubbed the recording with high end equipment from the original old analog tape which resulted in an audio quality that could be easily described as audiophile. Schaltkreis Wassermann's 'Psychotron' as you never heard it before! Huge..

15.09€

Artist : Schedelvreter

Label : Minimal Wave

hunker / 10"

Here is a limited edition hand-silkscreened 10" of Schedelvreter, the Dutch side project of brilliant minimal synth pioneer Danny Bosten (aka Das Ding). The 7 tracks were originally recorded in Danny's home studio in the Netherlands and self-released on a cassette entitled 'Hunker' via his Tear Apart Tapes label in 1985. Unlike Das Ding, Schedelvreter is not pattern-based or sequenced, the synth sounds are hand played over a collage of found sounds. At the time, Danny was experimenting with a Crumar synth that was falling apart, and would sporadically create sounds that were like human voices. He created massive drum sounds by layering noise, using leftover 4-track additions in reverse and some live drum recordings courtesy of his brother's tapes. The end result feels narrative and filmic, like the soundtrack to an imaginary apocalyptic movie: bleak & desolate. Be fast to grab this limited to 999 hand-silkscreened numbered copies pressed on black medium weight vinyl ;)

Techno Body Music if you want it or not; raw proto EBM but done with the aesthetics and technology of today, and moving into bleepy techno in the later-day LFO style. But more important, this is non-stop decadent party music. :D

Here is the follow up to the debut split 7" of this band together with The Dreams on Hex Grammofoonplaten. A 12" ep with 3 tracks of electronic music that is as punk as electronic music can get ! Really nice release by this Parisian label !

Scorpion Violente is gay beast from France obsessed with analogue trash electronics and bad sexual habits. After unleashing a first 7" split the great 12" "Rome Violente" on Bruit Direct, you had the pleasure to meet on your path earlier this year, this 2-headed monster gets its 1st full-length album out right now on Avant!. This Lp features 8 longs tracks of pure mental disease from the middle of nowhere. Musically speaking this is a sort of sick mix between Giorgio Moroder italo-disco, the paranoid minimal wave performed by Suicide in 1977 and the early industrial-wave electronics by Cabaret Voltaire. Comes in full color sleeve plus insert with awesome artwork and nasty lyrics, and secret engraved message. 2nd pressing edition of 300 copies on red vinyl for your obnoxious taste ;)

the rapist / LP

After a 1st remarkable effort in 2010, the punks with synths of Scorpion Violente return with the mini-LP 'The Rapist' on Teenage Menopause. Scorpion Violente is a good provocative lexical field: 'The Rapist' thus, but also tracks as "Fugue De Pute Mineure", "The Cherrypopper".. combined with cheap 80's porn pictures. The mosellan duet digs the same groove since its debuts: dirty synths, military beatbox and scattered voices lost for humanity. That smells warm beer. It feels debauchery. It is glaucous as a backroom of Budapest. But nevertheless this is so good! From the first notes of "Pumping Iron", the poison infiltrates, insidiously. Melodies picked by Scorpion Violente are simply unstoppable. You have only one will: dance, but guts sight. In the middle of the mini-LP, appears the tearing UFO "Strychnine". Almost pop. Rather moving. Follows the eponymic piece "The Rapist", which finally turns out to be the softest track of the record in spite of its threatening title. We assist a high Mass psyche of more than 11 minutes on the dancefloor. High sensitive guys they are ;)

the stalker / 12"

A flaming tribute to the peaks of low budget Italian crime flicks and to synthwave as lubed-up as we need, poisoned with synthetic drugs and the rust from circuit boards, Scorpion Violente are the epitome of everything the entrepreneurial divertimento generation hate. Feeling up their synths with all the vigor of a manic depressive on a downward slope, our 2 hosts emit their dirty feedback-washed discharge, adding Ich Bin and Le Syndicat Electronique to their holiday activity books. The tempo is even slower than before, with echoes more distant than In Aeternum Vale and Ike Yard dripping from their stabbing loops. Litanies almost crashing into chasms ooze in this cold cyclo-rhythmic blues, sure to make Alan Vega turn in his grave. Sick, sordid old crooning spat like bile from a wounded animal, fairy tales of ordinary madness, everyday nightmares and steel-reinforced rock ab from Lorraine, drifting in the cold gas-clouds of sulfur-laced heroin. These dudes are not fucking around, they go all the way. No remorse. Life rules most when it sucks, and maybe it's right there, in the firmament of famine, in the atrium of deserted factories, where the last vestiges of poetry survive. They sure kept us stewing since their 1st ep, but it was well worth the wait..

Italian new-wave band formed in 1979 in Genoa. Influenced by Devo, punk and early wave bands, their only hit was "Fahrenheit 451", released on major label in 1984. Architects of live act with a great sound and visual impact, Scortilla played around Italy by the hideouts of the underground music by establishing their headquarter at the Psycho Club of Genova, the cradle of true art-rock scene of the period. Intransigent about their artistic choices, the band closed the career after their unique 12". Absolutely amazing material. The Screen Vinyl Image / Rude 66 split 7" takes dark industrial electro sounds and edgy Wax Trax / 4AD era guitars and pushes them to the outer limits; offering up a heavy dose of new-wave futurism. Screen Vinyl Image, well known for putting on raging guitar feedback shows, are also no strangers to electronic music, and their track "Tomorrow Is Too Far" is possibly the furthest the band has gone yet in the realm of analog machines and horror/sci-fi themes. Rude 66, one of the founders of The Hague acid sound, and who has released records with Bunker, Crème Organization, Viewlexx and more, brings us "I Am God", a march into darkness filled with stabbing basses, cold synths, edgy guitars and vocoder vocals by wife Shauna Lekx, delivered in calculated bloodlust and horror. Artist : Seacrypt

seekers / 12"

The Makina GirGir-run label Falco Invernale Records (F.I.R.) have been working with Seacrypt to release their mini-album 'Seekers', a totally new album in which they explore deeper electronica and more inherently melodic sensibilities that have been hidden earlier with their release on Katabatik, titled 'A Momentary Rift'. They have matured as a group and are moving to have even more warmth in their analogue synth-pop with coldwave overtones. Since their 1st release in 2012, which also was a great release in itself in another way, this is a militarized version that you can hear in their new release. More focus on the organic features that need to be kept alive in the landscape of sound. Everything is connectable and together it makes their sound more grandiose. With militarization (there is a certain overlapping theme of urgency in their material), a certain discipline in regards to the focus of the instrumentation, the delivered product meets the qualities they've looked out for, for this record. The melancholic intentions and the darkly lyrics that are spouted in a more enigmatic fashion, switching from a duo of a female and a male, to going completely solo. This changes into disco-vibes with dark beats on the B-side, showing how versatile this group really can be. It's the 7th release on F.I.R., one of our favorites. You must listen to it !

world of rubber / 2x12"

Second Layer was a side project of Adrian Borland & Graham Bailey, members of post-punk band The Sound. The project was born from early punk band The Outsiders, which had both Graham and Adrian as members. Second Layer featured the voice and guitars of Adrian mixed with the bass and pioneering electronics of Graham. The music was bleak, detached, and desolate, but very beautiful. Honest songwriting and a harsh sonic backdrop set them apart from their peers. The band's 1st 2 singles were released by Tortch label. The 1st was 'Flesh As Property' ep in 1979 and the 2nd 'State Of Emergency' ep in 1980. By 1981 Second Layer had found a home on London-based label Cherry Red and released their debut album 'World Of Rubber' in november of that year. Full of hard mechanical sounds produced by Adrian's guitars and Graham's homemade drum machines, the album actively engages the listener. Songs are manic and twisted, pervaded with haunting subterranean atmospheres. Adrian's anguished voice tackles lyrics that are politically charged and morbidly fixated. Metallic guitar riffs, moody basslines, and Wasp synthesizer beeps are set to the band's cache of processed tape loops. They are a homegrown electronic garage band that sit alongside their contemporaries Joy Division, Cabaret Voltaire and Public Image Limited. This deluxe 2xLP edition features the complete recorded output of Second Layer plus 5 unreleased demos from 1978-80. Each LP comes in an exact replica of the original metallic sliver and black jacket from the 1981 issue with a never seen before fold out poster made by the band in 1980 with liner notes, photos and press clippings. Though Adrian passed away in 1999, his genius lives on in these recordings. Clap the headphones on, squeeze the volume up..!

After a very deep and aquatic breakbeat ep with Miami hip-hop label Counterflow, S.F.C. jumped off in 2003 into electroid territory with this booming, bass havy number, fed on a legacy of ghetto 808's and double 18" speakers in the boot. Dark vocodered vocals lay out the sinister edge that seperates this from your garden variety booty-shaker. On the flip, honorary Miami citizen Andrea Parker rebuilds with immense deep bass and a perfect stripped down feel. verboten / LP

Selofan is the Greek term for Cellophane, a thin, transparent sheet, protecting items, keeping them fresh and allowing them to breathe while in storage. The music of the duo from Athens is transparent, fresh and takes your breath away. It is strictly analogue, though alongside the synthesizers, drum-machines and loops a bass line, a dreamy piano and saxophone melody may surprise you. The female voice narrates about love and the loss of it, about death and the fear of it, about sexuality and the repression of it, about addictions, psychological weaknesses or strengths, all our own personal ghosts, which distinguish humans from other species. The power and tenderness of the male vocals penetrate your senses directly. This is their debut LP 'Verboten' limited to 500 copies & including download link and innersleeve.

Artist : Selofan

tristesse / LP

The 2nd full-lenght of Selofan is worth wondering how so many music elements and different styles can be perfectly combined into a homogenous soundtrack, a trip back in time and yet so modern and individual. 12 new tracks of diverse music structures and moods, which reflect the maturation of this gifted duo. Side A is of a deep romantic sensibility. Unlike their previous 'Verboten' LP, though still following the synthesizer and drum machine strategies, Selofan use more instruments, the bass and saxophone playing the leading role, all put together at their home studio. This record needs 'instructions for use' and you will find them on the B side. Things are not as they seem, each track reveals a completely new cosmos, a piece of classical piano music, a rhythmic tango, old school dark wave and synthpunk tracks coexist in harmony. The expressive story-telling enters the mind with caustic lyrics of existential anguish as well as the poetry of Rilke and Hesse. Once you enter Selofans' "Ciné Romance" you will never want to leave again. You will be transferred in a new-wave world of playful irony, electronic melodies and experimentation. Once we go through the gates of this Cinema we shall forget our fears in the sound of a cinematic track inspired by David Lynchs' movie Dune. After this catharsis we are ready to enter the dark, mutant world of (according to our opinion) the currenlty most visionary band emerging from the Greek underground. Selofans' world is multi sided, you may feel directly connected to it and the next moment you may lose the ground under your feet. Polymorphism comes from Greece and has always been a characteristic for Selofans' music. The album is singular in concept but varies genres: dark-wave treasures, synth-punk spells, melodic saxophone fairy-tales and early industrial beats coexist in harmony, while a hallucinating voice sings or whispers poems of great emotional tension in different languages, exposing uncomfortable truths. This album transfers a powerfully original fusion of energies and is meant to be only for the wild at heart! A limited to 1000 copies future-classic! The seasoned hunters constantly digging for new dramas and passions to grace their visual intention and musical charm, the band specialize in deep, cold & racy analog sounds- but have always been favored along with howling vocals, well-distilled synths and heartbroken sax when it comes to the occasional shootout between genre trenches. Across 'Vitrioli''s 11 heart-wrenching love songs and odes to the failures and hysterias of the subculture, Selofan brilliantly express the band's main themes they've been exploring since their existence: that there is dark humor in emotional vulnerability, that one can find a way to laugh and cry in the same breath – and get stronger. The sound of 'Vitrioli' is intense, inflammatory and sometimes harrowing- the record taps into the depths of madness: chanelling a lover's call to arms, power of self-awareness and brutal rawness of desperation, love and hate conflict colliding into devastating effects. Famously provocative, Selofan create an unpopulated dramatic realm where sad lovers shapeshift into a destructive, obsessive, ambitious persona with a driven desire. The 303 has found friends again, and Sendex go all out for an acid assault on this release. "Pure Acid’ starts with an emotional but simple string line that drags you in, fading in the acid underneath brings those memories back, and when the beat drops its perfect for the 303, fitting tight as a nut around each other, its an oldschool groove you can't afford to pass on. Also check the 303 twiddlings of "Just Dance" with its acid droplets raining down on the simple toy drums of the beat, using the modulation the track is built up till the acid is a flanging monster that takes up all the space, rampant old schooltwiddling. live at roscoe louie / 10"

Sequencer People is one of the many projects which the prolific US duet formed by Roland Barker and James Husted carried out in the early 80's. Under this pseudonym, we just have the proof of a cassette recorded in 1982 by the independent American label Engram Records & Tapes, from Seattle, which collects the only concert recorded in the art gallery Roscoe Louie, from Seattle as well. Apart from this short association, the American duet minimal-synth, formed by Roland and James, took part in lots of other projects, sometimes together with other groups (Young Scientist, or Body Falling Downstairs), other times concurrently (Audio Leter, or K7SS) and also on their own. As James himself points out, the essence of all these groups was improvisation, that is to say, they never compounded following limited patterns. They used to have a very simple structure which they were developing without a previous schedule. For this reason they have never conceived the term 'song' in their wide musical production; instead, they talked about 'performances' or 'improvisations'. Anyway, in all their projects we always find an obvious tendency towards experimentation, in essence, with electronic instruments and the discovery of new possibilities with analogic technology, as well as the creation of dark sounding universes, industrial and open to a lot of possibilities. Now, for the 1st time, Domestica introduces to you these 2 jewels of the most subterranean and trend setting electronic music, in vinyl format. Edition of 400 numbered copies, presented in a hand-made silk-screen printed cover sleeve.!

'Galaxi' by Sergio Ferraresi was originally released as library album on the old Italian family enterprise music label Abramo Allione Srl in 1979. Only some hundred copies were given out back in the days and it don't caused a big furor. In the past few years 'Galaxi' got more and more hyped in the vinyl collector scene. That's no wonder because the album brings 12 unbelievable electronic instrumental space disco tracks to the surface which still sounding extremely fresh. Especially dark and weired compositions that without any exaggeration could be described as a mixture between Black Devil & Air. However the original LP album was hardly ever offered for sale and as far as we are concerned the last original Galaxi vinyl album sold in 2012 (at a price of 270€). So this re-release makes sense, bringing some straight Italien disco productions back to the music fans and the dancefloor. Enjoy this lost and unconsumed music masterpiece! Smashing audio quality, loud pressing, 24bit technology dubbing of the original Abramo Allione master tape! Cover artwork by John Berkey (the artist who designed the 70's & 80's Star Wars movie posters!). Limited to 200 copies !

evolution⁵ technology / 12"

Series-A was the duo of Sam Anderson aka Dj Maestro and Dave Webb (aka Kid Fresh). Sam & Dave both grew up listening to the sounds of the Electrifying Mojo on WJLB in Detroit. They met in 1983 at a Dj gig that they were both hired to play. In 1986, they collaborated on the Nu-Sound II Crew project. After developing a friendship with Juan Atkins, they became hip to the emerging new club sounds that were to become electro and techno. Their subsequent project, Series-A, was named after different car model numbers, but also hints at the evolution of humankind into a new species. In 1987, Series-A recorded the single "Evolution ⁵ Technology" at Spectrum Sounds Studio in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Their set up was a vocoder, E-mu Emulator III, Roland 909 drum machine, and an Otari 24-Track recorder. They landed a record deal with Satellite Records in Burbank, California, which had been founded by Pete Moore of The Miracles. After pressing 50 promotional copies, the label ran into financial problems, and the record never reached a full release. Taking cues Kraftwerk, Grand Master DST, Grandmaster Flash & Jam Master Jay, Series-A created dark electro beats in an era when sampling appeared to be the future of music. Lyrically the song addresses our species' entry into the technological age. For this ep reissue, the '7" Mix' and 'Dub Mix' are included on the A-side. On the flip is a new remix by prolific Ann Arbor producer JTC, an alias of Tadd Mullinix (aka Dabrye, SK-1, & Charles Manier). JTC speeds up and expands the song to 7 minutes. Drawing on influences from Ron Hardy to Jeff Mills, he drives around suburban techno landscapes while simultaneously launching the listener into deep space. The jacket is specially designed by Eloise Leigh and features a cyborg fossil motif with RGB color band and gradients. Each copy includes a post card with with notes.

since the accident / LP

Severed Heads reissue of 1983's 'Since The Accident' LP. Severed Heads are one of the most diverse and expert sound palette engineers and are also repeatedly overlooked and far underrated. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, they formed in 1979. The band was composed of many different members though it's existence but Tom Ellard has always been the constant since 1979 when he joined the band. The group's early recordings were characterized by manipulated tape loop experiments, cleverly modulated noise elements and repetition. This period is very well suited to the early industrial period. Over time, the sounds morphed into more melodic leanings with pop elements and more prominent synth leads and backbone. 'Since The Accident' was released in 1983 on UK Ink Records. The LP exemplifies the transition point between experimental structure and loops into the catchy pop hooks that would later define such releases as 'Rotund For Success'. Difficult to classify, it is a masterpiece of electronic music. The opening track "Relic Of The Empire" is a slow sequenced magnificent piece with time-stretched samples overlaid with multiple tracks to create a symphony quite unlike anything heard before. The hit "Dead Eyes Opened" (charted in 1985 as a single) is a dancefloor friendly track with crafted synth hooks fused with bursts of noise intertwining with interesting vocal samples. "Gashing The Old Mae West" is a perfect example of how the record can take a dark turn into the style of the earlier Severed Heads with jagged industrial crunched out tape loops and folding in and out samples. Though signed to 80's industrial label icon Nettwerk in North America and often classified in the same vein, these records are not easily definable and actually have a life of their own. Though commonly misclassified with a lot of the late 80's industrial/goth scene (as well as touring with Skinny Puppy at one point), Severed Heads would be more accurately in good company with acts such as Cabaret Voltaire, early Coil, Chris & Cosey (and CTI), and the like. Long out of print and a rarity on the collector's market, it is presented with original repro jacket. Remastered by Tom Ellard form the original source masters. Presented on high-quality 180gr heavyweight black and white vinyl. Features bonus LP insert compiled by Tom Ellard with ephemera from the time. Limited edition.

Severed Heads reissue of 1985's 'City Slab Horror' LP. 'City Slab Horror' was released in 1985 on UK Ink Records. The LP though 2 years after 'Since The Accident' continues to carry the torch illustrating the evolving transition between experimental structure and loops into the catchy pop hooks that would later define such releases as "Rotund For Success". This LP seems to move slightly into darker territory in general with it's synth textures and slower tempo tracks but overall has a nice continuation feel from 'Since The Accident' yet with obvious technological evolutions. The opening track "Spasm" drags the listener down the Severed Head mental rabbit hole instantly with it's heady samples and eloquent drum machine rhythm. "Spitoon Thud" is a rambunctious affair with it's cacophony of samples and percussion. "4.W.D." is a great sneak peak into the sound of the Severed Heads LPs to come with it's treated vocals and pop hooks. Next to last is the amazing "Goodbye Tonsils" track which is unstoppably catchy and features more of the creative use of samples which made this group so interesting. Though signed to 80's industrial label icon Nettwerk in North America and often classified in the same vein, these records are not easily definable and actually have a life of their own. Though commonly misclassified with a lot of the late 80's industrial/goth scene (as well as touring with Skinny Puppy at one point), Severed Heads would be more accurately in good company with acts such as Cabaret Voltaire, early Coil, Chris & Cosey (and CTI), and the like. dead eyes opened / 12"

Severed Heads are one of the longest surviving bands to emerge from the Australian post-punk independent music scene. They began in Sydney in 1979, incorporating elements of industrial noise-generation, tape cutting & looping and electronic sound synthesis. As the project developed song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro pop style. After many line-up changes featuring Gary Bradbury and psychedelic guitarist Simon Knuckey, Severed Heads was the vehicle for composer Tom Ellard. By 1983 they released a C-60 cassette called 'Since The Accident' that grabbed the attention of Ink Records, a subsidiary of Virgin in the UK. Ellard added a throwaway track at the last minute to fill out the cassette, not wanting to leave an unseemly gap on a C60 tape. This track, "Dead Eyes Opened" was catchy enough to get a lot of airplay on the main non-commercial radio station in Sydney. The band was asked to make this song into a 12" single. For this extended version, Tom Ellard and producer Patrick Gibson went to M Squared studio and passed the multitrack through various EQ and delays. "Dead Eyes Opened" features lyrics from a radio program narrated by Edgar Lustgarten, a crime journalist from England. They reference an actual double murder case that occurred in 1924 calling to mind the gruesome imagery of Hannibal Lecter. The rhythms are made by a TR-808 drum machine and an SH-1 synthesizer. A KORG PolySix did the rising wafty sound and strings. The load solo was a Casiotone run through an Octaver foot pedal. On the B-side are 2 solo compositions "Bullet" and "Mount" that Ellard recorded at Terse Tapes in 1982. Housed in the original jacket featuring the iconic photograph of a girl with a painted face wrapped in some cloth by Juilee Pryor. Each copy includes a fold-out newsprint poster with a large photo of the band wearing Art Unit skull shirts on one side and liner notes and press clippings on the other. 30 years later Severed Heads are still paving the way for powerful imaginative challenging music far and wide.

Severed Heads are one of the longest surviving bands to emerge from the Australian post-punk independent music scene. They began in Sydney in 1979, incorporating elements of industrial noise-generation, tape cutting & looping and electronic sound synthesis. As the project developed song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro-pop style. After many line-up changes featuring Garry Bradbury and psychedelic guitarist Simon Knuckey, Severed Heads was the vehicle for composer Tom Ellard. In 1985 their record label asked them to release a retrospective, so they dragged out bits that we had lying around from 1979 up til 1983. The compilation was titled 'Clifford Darling Please Don't Live In The Past', spread out into a montage over 4 sides of vinyl. Bradbury and Ellard would fuss each bit and sling it on their new digital recorder, and since they still have the digital recorder, this reissue is made directly from the bits assembled 20 years ago. This compilation includes live recordings, raw demos, unreleased studio recordings and solo pieces from each member of the band during from the first 5 years. Their early music was characterized by the use of tape loops, noisy arrangements of synthesizers and other dissonant sound sources in the general category of industrial music. After several releases in that vein, Severed Heads began incorporating various popular music tropes, such as a consistent 4/4 rhythm, strong melodic lines, resolving chord arrangements and the occasional vocal. This move was underscored by the incorporation of mimetic devices, such as drum machines and bass synthesizers. The result was a striking hybrid of the avant-garde industrial and pop. Housed in a jacket featuring brightly colored, distorted, VHS graphics output by Stephen Jones' video synthesizer created by Tom Ellard video piece 'Kato Gets The Girl' in 1985, designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes a fold-out poster with a color video still photo on one side and liner notes and credits on the other. 30 years later Severed Heads' perverse creativity is still paving the way for powerful imaginative challenging music far and wide.

lamborghini / petrol / 12"

Dark Entries digs deeper in to the archives of Severed Heads, one of the longest surviving bands to emerge from the Australian post-punk independent music scene. They began in Sydney in 1979, incorporating elements of 'industrial' noise-generation, tape cutting & looping and electronic sound synthesis. As the project developed song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro pop style. In 1986 the band released the 12" single 'Petrol' on Nettwerk Records. We've decided to shed light on the evolution of 'Petrol' with this ep showcasing 4 earlier incarnations of what became an instant synth-pop classic. "Petrol", originally titled "Lamborghini", was written by Garry Bradbury and Tom Ellard in 1981. The 1st version of the song featured vocals by Finoa Graham and music by Tom Ellard. "Lamborghini" was featured on a compilation of Experimental Australian bands titled 'Entrave Et Étouffement, From Australia...' released by L'Invitation Au Suicide in april 1982. Djs in Chicago discovered the import compilation and "Lamborghini" became a proto-house secret weapon, traded on mix tapes. In july 1982, the band was invited to record several songs on Metro TV in Sydney to demonstrate the video synthesizer, a new piece of equipment played by Stephen Jones. The video synthesizer was installed into Metro's control room above the main studio to process the performance in real time on 2 cameras while recording to video. Tom Ellard & Garry Bradbury were using analog synths and tape recorders along with the screaming guitar work of Simon Knuckey, while Garry took over vocal duties. In 1984 Tom took another stab at the song, re-recording and singing "Petrol" for the compilation 'Beyond The Southern Cross', a double compilation album of electronic and post-punk bands from Australia and New Zealand. Finally in 1985, the band went into the Terse Tapes studio with producer Robert Racic to record "Petrol" for a 7" single release on Volition Records. Featured here is the B-side of the 7", a cut-up dub version remixed by Racic and packed full of intensity. Housed in a jacket featuring brightly colored, distorted, VHS graphics output by Stephen Jones' video synthesizer created by Tom Ellard video piece 'Kato Gets The Girl' in 1985, designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes a postcard with notes and original hand-written lyrics by Garry Bradbury. stretcher / LP

Reissue of Australia's Severed Heads and their 1985 release 'Stretcher'. The Severed Heads story continues with the expanded and 'Stretched' 2LP reissue. After personnel changes in 1985 (Garry Bradbury and Paul Deering left the band), Sev was now down to a 2 piece (Tom Ellard and Stephen Jones). Stretcher was originally released to be a compilation to introduce the band to an American audience, but it was ultimately sold in 3 versions due to other countries desiring their own version (an EP in Canada and England and an LP in Australia). The name was taken from the sign on the emergency stretcher at the front of every Sydney ferry during that era. This version is based on the 'Volition' release (Australian version) but with all the tracks from the other versions for a full collection of 17 tracks over 2 LPs. A bit more 'accessible' than the previous 'City Slab Horror' with a number of dancefloor stompers filling out the collection such as the 12" versions of "Halo" and "Petrol". The collection mostly consists of new tracks written for the multiple releases for each country release but also contains a few older tracks remixed and even a demo version of "Harold And Cindy" which would be later fleshed out on 'The Big Bigot'. The Heads toured the LP across Australia in 1985 resulting in a lot of 'exciting adventures with audiences who wanted to kill us' (said Tom Ellard). 2 other interesting facts in regard to this collection is that it was the 1st time Sev used MIDI and a DX7 and every track has some radio signal mixed in there somewhere, always by accident. The original version(s) are all long out of print and becoming rare on the collector's market. Presented in a beautiful gatefold 2LP on high quality classic black 160gr vinyl with original artwork as well as new gatefold layout by Tom Ellard with extensive liner notes detailing the back story and creation of each individual track. hell transformation screens / 12"

Astounding new material beamed via Shemale's Atomic Allotment, concealed in an outermost shadowy recess of darkest Hyperborea. The musical paintbrush creates a harsh, barren landscape for 'Hell Transformation Screens', as deeply brooding electro and dramatic synthesisers propel each musical journey in its own unique style. There is an indescribable and mystifying tension which builds within the work of Shemale, the opening cut, "Dead City Photographs" being a prime example. The soundbite here simply cannot pay justice to this tack as a whole, as the intro is quite simply outstanding, with deadly, steely synths preparing the listener for an unmistakable and impending doom, which is ultimately realized in the dense, desolate sense of desperation interpreted in the final ambient-drones of "Tomb". Converted followers of the atmospherically articulate Shemale will need no further persuasion, as this will undoubtedly be a compulsive steal, but for those with an appetite for the darker side of 21st century electro, then there has never been a better moment to plunge into the shadows of Atomic Allotment... experiments in incest / LP

Shoc Corridor was the London post-punk quartet of Paul O'Carroll (voice, synth), Andy Garnham (synth, bass, drum), Chris Davis (guitar, bass, e-bow) and Nogi Prass (synth) named after the Sam Fuller film from 1963. Chris met Nogi shortly after moving to London in 1979, started playing music together, fell madly in love and decided to form a band. They recruited Andy, who had previously played in a band with Steve Luscombe of Blancmange, and lyricist and vocalist Paul. A home studio was set up at Andy's flat in Notting Hill, where the band recorded and rehearsed. More interested in studio experimentation than live performance, the band only played a handful of gigs. Their influences were wide reaching: Kraftwerk, Neu, Cabaret Voltaire, Eno, PIL and Joy Division. Their equipment list included a Korg MS-20, Wasp, Pro-One, Roland TR-808, WEM Copicat, guitars, bass, e-bow and an assortment of effects pedals. The crucial 5th member of the band was, of course, a TEAC reel-to-reel 4-track recorder. After recording a 4-song demo they were offered a deal by Shout Records. The debut 12" single, 'A Blind Sign', was released in autumn 1982 and the band booked a studio to record an album's worth of songs that winter. But Nogi received notification from the home office that she would have to leave the UK when her visa expired at the end of the year. Chris was faced with a dilemma: follow Nogi to Israel or continue with the band. Nogi & Chis recorded their tracks for the album and left London shortly after. Paul & Andy were left to complete the album at Ollie's Studio with Dutch engineer Paul Groothuis. It was titled 'Experiments In Incest' and released in march 1983. 6 songs, clocking in at almost 40 minutes, the album is largely instrumental pieces built around electronic rhythm tracks and layers of ethereal keyboard melodies. Evocative and dreamy, the music escorts you on a tour of icy landscapes, with Paul's occasional deep, rich vocals guiding the way. As one reviewer stated, this album is a "hypnotic electronic soundtrack music for a movie of the mind". Each LP comes in an exact replica of the original neon red jacket, featuring stick figure artwork by Paul O'Carroll. A 6-page booklet of liner notes, lyrics, photos and press clippings designed by Eloise Leigh is also included.

a blind sign / 12"

Shoc Corridor was the London post-punk quartet of Paul O'Carroll (voice, synth), Andy Garnham (synth, drum), Chris Davis (guitar, bass, e-bow) and Nogi Prass (synth) named after the Sam Fuller film from 1963. Chris met Nogi shortly after moving to London in 1979; they started playing music together, fell madly in love, and decided to form a band. They recruited Andy, who had previously played in a band with Stephen Luscombe of Blancmange, and lyricist and vocalist Paul. Their influences were wide reaching: Kraftwerk, Neu, Cabaret Voltaire, Brian Eno, PIL, and Joy Division. The group recorded a 4-song demo during 1981 in a tiny flat Chris shared with Nogi in Notting Hill. As their collection of instruments grew they set up studio a few blocks away in Andy's flat at 20 All Saints Road. There they re-recorded "Sargasso Sea" along with "On Reflexion" on a TEAC reel-to-reel 4-track machine. In the summer of '82, the band was booked into Decibel Studios in Stoke Newington for 2 and a half days with Mark Easton of Shout Records, where they reworked the 2 songs. The group usually worked through studio experimentation rather than constructing their songs in a conventional way. Their equipment list included a Korg MS-20, Wasp, Pro-One, Roland TR-808, WEM Copicat, guitars, bass, e-bow and an assortment of effects pedals. "On Reflexion" began as a Blancmange backing track, since Stephen Luscombe would sometimes use Andy's 4-track, Korg MS-20 and drum machine. Chris has memories of Paul disappearing from time to time to the neighboring graveyard for inspiration, where they had to procure him from to lay down vocals. Their debut 3-song 12" single, 'A Blind Sign', was released in october 1982 on Shout Records. this re-issue includes the original skeletal 'Sargasso Sea' 4-track demo from 1981. Evocative and dreamy, the music escorts you on a tour of icy landscapes, with Paul's rich vocals guiding the way. Each copy includes an 8x11" 2-sided insert with liner notes, lyrics and photos designed by Eloise Leigh.

earth vs. shockabilly / LP

In the first full-length flowering of the Shockabilly disease, the completely unique power trio infuses "Earth" with what would become the kind of ammunition the group would regularly fire at an uncaring world of listeners : guitarist Eugene Chadbourne's sociopolitical barbs written on a sliding scale of minor chords and solos, bassist Kramer's rumbling discourse with drummer David Licht. Originals like "City Of Corruption" and "Party House, Pt. 3 in 3-D", mix with a bizarre grab-bag of covers ranging from "Purple Haze" and "Day Tripper" to Johnny Cash's "Tennessee Flat Top Box." Though the free-flowing madness that made later records like "Heaven" masterpieces of a form that no one has mastered since isn't quite boiling at a high-pitch rate, "Earth Vs. Shockabilly" is still a formidable debut chock-full of a kind of rock music bottom feeding that is compulsively magnificent...

thought noises / LP

Here is the underground Belgian new-wave pioneers, Sic, with the career-spanning release 'Thought Noises'. Sic were a post-punk band from the industrial city of Charleroi (Belgium). They were formed by Francis Pourcel, Alain Neffe (aka Bene Gesserit), Micheline Dufert & Mario Berchicci in 1977. Francis and Alain had previously played with krautrock band Kosmose in the mid 70's. In 1978 Alain left the group to launch the cassette label Insane Music. The new trio released their debut 7" 'Voltage Control' in 1979 on Artibano Records. By 1980 Mario left and was replaced by a Korg KR-55 drum machine. As a duo, Sic self-released the "Cover Girls Smile / Between" 7" in 1980, which was played by John Peel on Radio 1 in London. In 1981 their final 7" single, "Free Radio Stations" was self-released and the band recorded a demo tape to help secure live gigs. Sic continued to play live over the next 2 year but eventually broke up in 1983. Sic stray from more conventional post-punk, mixing the affordable Korg MS-20 and Roland RS-09 synthesizers with jazz and funk elements. 'Thought Noises' compiles all 3 Sic 7" singles released from 1979 to 1981, plus 6 unreleased demos from a 1981 recording session. Each Lp includes a lyric sheet insert. More than 30 years later, Sic are a document of a mutant strain of new-wave ripe for discovery..

Even before it was released, Silent Em's "Case Unclear" made it to track of the day at Cold War Night Life: "...New York's Jean Lorenzo is Silent Em, and he strips down and dries out his songs until they are tense, fragile shards of sound. The crackle of snares in this track is set off nicely by the dark vocal line". Moody wave at its best.!

Jean Lorenzo (aka Silent Em), fell into his solo project by chance. Before moving to New York City, where he now calls home, Jean had played guitar and bass in post-punk and punk bands but found, upon his transition to a new city, he could create music singularly with synthesizers and drum machines. He records live in his own studio and sings in both English and Spanish with dramatic lyrical themes that include lies, disillusion, numbness of love and lost utopias. The influence of 80's French coldwave and post punk is apparent in his uptempo, emotional songs. Silent Em released his 1st ep in early 2013 on cassette, followed by a 7" that same year, and has released music on both American and European labels. Limited to 500 copies.

Both projects have been on the rise lately, and stem from a strongly rooted techno background. Combining their influences of dance music, techno, EBM, industrial and post-punk, Silent Servant & Broken English Club offer a new breed of EBM infused techno wave on the 'Violence And Divinity' ep. tracking the black hole / LP

Long awaited first album by D.T.Klein's project Silent Signals. Originally created for the French label Invasion Planète, on which the cult single 'Walk On The Ladder' was released in 2003, Silent Signals soon became a minimal electro 'alter ego' to the more industrial-orientated main project Echo West. Several compilation appearances followed, as well as a split CD with Martial Canterel in 2007. The 1st long player has been long in the making but it was worth the wait: inspired by deep space fascination and the idea of life within a world of pure darkness, 'Tracking The Black Hole' combines neo-romantic wave anthems, flexi-pop playfulness, angst-pop coldness and EBM efficiency. The whole served with D.T. Klein's unique touch and unmistakable voice. Limited edition of 313 hand numbered copies in black vinyl and heavy board cover. TIP !!

Silvia is the name of a Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW 'New German Wave') project created Tommi Stumpff & Silvia Nemanic. The pair met in Düsseldorf in the late 70's and started dating when Tommi was the singer of punk band Der KFC. Silvia was absolutely inexperienced in musical things, she said 'I've played the recorder'. Tommi rented Klangwerkstatt studio for a few days in January 1982 to record his an album with his bandmate Ferdinand Mackenthun aka Käpt'n Nuss of Der KFC, but finished earlier than expected. With one extra day that was already paid for, they quickly wrote some more songs and recorded them. All they needed was a singer, so they asked Silvia. Simply titled 'Silvia', the record was released in mid-1982 on cult label Schallmauer Records, which had released many German punk, NDW and new-wave records in the 80's. Tommi and Käpt'n Nuss played all instruments and wrote the lyrics. Since Silvia had a very deep voice, Tommi slightly pitched up her vocals to sound higher on the recordings. The album displays Tommi's transition from punk rock to cold electronics, EBM and eventually techno. Tommi's instrument set up was a Sequential Circuits Pro One and Moog Prodigy controlled by a Fricke sequencer and a Korg SQ-10 Analog Sequencer. Silvia urges the listener to save themselves and says 'No miracle will happen you die tomorrow, young and guilty' evoking the urban Zeitgeist of the Cold War. Housed in the original jacket featuring a full color of Silvia on the front with hand drawn magenta type. Each copy includes a replica insert of the original lyrics sheet in German and a postcard featuring a black and white photo of Tommi and Silvia. Sadly Silvia passed away in 2003 and this reissue is dedicated to her.

Ritualistic electro and slo-mo italo cuts from Sir Stephen, who was last heard some years back on a couple of Anglemaker 12"s. The drag pace of "Ancient Ritual" reminds of some of the recent Perseo exploits, and "Good King's Crusade" is kinda like a screwed version of those "Space System" tracks for Optimo, with mental cosmic interruptions to boot. Fun for the disco weirdos..
