A one man show doing electro that sounds very reminiscent of Comtron and Japanese Telecom. The title track on the other hand is something of a crossover between New Kids On The Block and Drexciya. And we mean that in a good way ! "Jumpin 2 Conclusions" is simply amazing, we love it. If you like the Seymour Bits 12" on Klakson then you definately need this too. Highly Recommended !

anthems for the micro-age

18.19€

Artist : Roladex

Label : Medical Records LLC

anthems for the micro-age / LP

2nd contemporary artist release with Roladex. Imagine Kraftwerk playing Steven Merritt songs. Roladex was formed in Texas by Tyler Jacobsen & Elyssa Dianne. Producer/member, Tyler Jacobsen holds an MFA in Electronic Art and this becomes apparent as they find lyrical and musical inspiration through the films of David Cronenberg and John Carpenter, the works of authors such as J.G Ballard as well as video artists such as Vito Acconci and Nam June Paik. Jacobsen has been on a hiatus from his work as college art professor since the formation of the group. Using an arsenal of analog instruments, Roladex nostalgically borrows ideas from music of the past to carefully craft a unique brand of futuristic-mechanized pop, with an emphasis on songwriting and layered production. Weaving sparse, sequenced arpeggios into fuzzy bass and bubbly melodies to create a bed of sound where they layout a somehow bright melancholia. Part minimal synth-wave, part dream pop, Roladex fits nicely with other non-traditional pop acts such as Ariel Pink as well as Synth contemporaries like Police Des Moeurs and Black Marble. At times their music cold and moody, at others it is bright and dimly warm. Themes such as nuclear war, cosmology, false memories and technology become apparent as the listener plays through the LP. Fans of early Wire (esp 154), Drinking Electricity, Fad Gadget and even noisy 90's shoegaze are sure to enjoy. Presented on high-quality 180gr heavyweight electric blue transparent vinyl and features a bonus LP insert with lyrics. Mastered by Martin Bowes at the Cage, UK. Limited edition.

tear garden / 12"

Rossetti's Compass is a dark electronic project originally created by Mark Warner, a former member of Sudeten Creche and Touching The Void and joined by Per Aksel Lundgreen. Mark Warner is a former member of Sudeten Creche and a current member of Touching the Void with Andy Oppenheimer. He created Rossetti's Compass in 2010 to allow exploration of different directions in music ranging for pure synth-pop through to dark and menacing electro. As the name, Rossetti's Compass, suggests, it both encompasses and points to a direction. A direction dictated by one's heart that doesn't need to conventionally conform to the standards dictated by the 'Art' establishment and one driven by passion, like the pre-raphaelite brotherhood founded in 1848.

the temple of the 13th tribe

Artist : Royal Family and The Poor

Label : Mannequin

the temple of the 13th tribe / LP

The Royal Family & The Poor is the nomenclature adopted by Mike Keane, who recorded for Factory Records between 1980 and 1986. 'The Project Phase 1 - The Temple Of The 13th Tribe', released in 1984 was produced in Manchester by Joy Divison and New Order bassist Peter Hook. Featuring the violinist John Neesham (of Walking Seeds and Mel-o-Tones) and the keyboard player Lita Hira from labelmates Stockholm Monsters, the album was done only after plenty of ups and downs in Keane's own life as well as numerous personnel shifts and incarnations, but the end results were a sometimes delicate and often enthralling combination. The combination of TR 808 and other drums, reverbed vocals, and aural mystery is all permeated by Keane's interest in the occult, while Hook's technological know-how adds a sharp rhythmic punch to tracks such as "Dark And Light", "Radio Egypt" and "Discipline". Other tracks include one of Mike Keane's best known songs, the affecting ballad "I Love You (Restrained In A Moment)", and the sinister, vocodered "Motherland". Perhaps the most misunderstood band to record for Factory Records, The Royal Family and The Poor remain for many an (oc)cult enigma, releasing only 4 albums in 2 decades, and rarely performing live after 1984. A lost classic, highly recommended for fans of Joy Division, New Order, Section 25, Durutti Column, Death In June. 1st vinyl reissue for the 30th year anniversary. Collectible limited edition of 500 copies.

sadistic tendencies / 2x12"

After a wait of 15 years and numerous 12", ep's, random compilation tracks and remixes; Rude 66 has finally finished a full length album and dare we say it's his most cohesive work to date ? "Sadistic Tendencies" begins where 2005's "Three Faces of Fear ep" ended, with 18 tracks that slide like snails on the edge of straight razors, exploring the dark side of the human condition. Thematically connected, deep, dark and mind bendingly analogue, "Sadistic Tendencies" is both tense and full of release, sometimes brooding and encroaching at other times exploding into throbbing synth laden dancefloor bombs. Superlatives aside, "Sadistic Tendencies" works exceptionally well as an album and is one of those rare 70 minute journey's that can be enjoyed from beginning to end. Massive..

Rude 66 does not need an introduction... This Dutch acid and elektro veteran has been around for a long time. Being part of the old school acid scene from The Hague with releases on legendary label Acid Planet and he is one of the originals (again) when it comes to the new-wave of electro in the late 90's. Especially for Gooiland Elektro he has created this dark elektro ep. 2 vocals tracks on the A-side with Beta Evers and Sololust appearing as partners in crime, and on the B-side 2 instrumental almost trance like tracks. This is were elektro, acid (beat) and a touch of old school gothic come together!

Full length Lp by Ruins, an Italian electro-wave duo. Ruins formed in Mestre in 1978 with the intention of experimenting with electronic devices and mixed media. They mainly created music out of self-expression without any intention of joining the mainstream. They were interested in multimedia and had a strong visual aesthetic apparent via their album art, videos and projections. The classic hit "Fire" is one of our favorites to date, so powerful with its great energy and beautiful production. It’s where italo meets minimal-wave. This Lp entitled "The Art Dance" features a collection of songs, some previously released, others never released before (amongst them a dub version of "Sexual Desire" called "Pure Desire"), pressed on 180gram vinyl and housed in a glossy gatefold jacket lined with the band's history and photos. polaroïd/roman/photo / LP

Originally released on Paris Records in 1985 Ruth's Lp sold just 50 copies and was relegated to obscurity until the track "Polaroïd/Roman/Photo" started appearing on bootlegs and compilations in the early 00's, slowly becoming the cult synth-pop classic it is nowadays. An original copy goes for upwards of €300 on eBay and Ruth are a shining light from an oft forgotten music scene that is becoming increasingly influential today. Ruth was the brainchild of Thierry Müller, a photographer and graphic artist from Paris who drew his inspiration from bands and artists like Brian Eno, Stockhausen, Pere Ubu, Neu, Velvet Underground and Kraftwerk. In the late 70's he began to work on Ruth, releasing the lone album Polaroïd/Roman/Photo in 1985. The line up of Ruth was collaborative and fluid, brass mingles with prototype drum machines, and squalling experimentation sits alongside sultry French girls across 40 minutes of edgy pop innovation that sounds remarkably undated alongside contemporary pop music. From the jittery "Thriller" with its telephone sound samples and an ever ascending synth, to the lanquid "Mabelle", the cover of Can's "She Brings The Rain", and the sexy soiree of playful vocals and alluring brass that is "Polaroïd/Roman/Photo", this is an album that is now ready to be represented for the attention is deserves. This 25th anniversary deluxe special edition reissue comes in a gatefold sleeve on transparent scarlet vinyl, and features a 12 page booklet of lyrics and photos and download codes for a digital version of the album which includes six bonus tracks. singularis / 12"

For its 6th outing, the UK label has managed to coax a release from Rutherford, aka Swedish producer Ronnie Johansson, who had a track on 'Guests Of Reality', a split release issued by Brokntoys late last year. Although he has been putting out records since the late 90's, 'Singularis' is one of the 1st occasions that he has not released on Stilleben, the label run by Luke Eargoggle. Its loss is Brokntoys' gain and Johansson delivers a series of underground cuts that reinforce the fact that while trends and hype are transient, electro has a sense of permanence. At times, the approach on 'Singularis' is stripped back in extreme; "Spoken Word" revolves around robotic drums, a churning bass, coruscating stabs and little else. In other instances, Rutherford mines a far richer and deeper sound. Both "Learn Leave" and "Ringer" have the churning bass and the kind of mysterious synth melodies that are audibly influenced by Drexciya. However, neither are cheap knock-offs and "Learn Leave" in particular sees Johansson work a vocal that moans and growls into the track's fabric. The title track also provides an indication that electro producers aren't content to remain in a narrowly defined bracket. Staying away from the dancefloor, its synths have an icy, detached feeling, like the early 90's ambience of Autechre or The Black Dog, but against this backdrop, Johansson works in what could be a vocal sample. Its ghostly presence shimmies through the austere soundscape, lending a human touch to the track's robotic form. 'Singularis' doesn't offer a manifesto for radical change or creative upheaval, but it does show that this 40-year-old sound won't be suffering a mid-life crisis anytime soon..

Around 1980 Menko Konings started the legendary Amsterdam underground formation S.M. Nurse, 1st together with Jos Jak and later also with Anneke Stempher. S.M. Nurse experimented with collage-like music and were inspired by N.Y.-ultra, disco e.g. The band mainly performed in the Amsterdam ultra-circuit, such as Oktopus on the Keizersgracht and D-Day in Paradiso. They also performed at clubs and discotheques such as Mazzo on the Rozengracht and the transgender nightclub Madame Arthur in the Warmoesstraat. Pretty soon, S.M. Nurse was noticed by radio programme maker Richard Zeilstra from the Dutch broadcaster the VPRO and they were played regularly on radio programmes such as RadioNome and Spleen. They performed live on radio in the villa of the VPRO in Hilversum. They also contributed to the theme cassette 'Turkish Delight' of Van Kaye & Ignit's tapes and record label Ding Dong. Among releases were a live registration on a bootleg cassette, at the time available at Staalplaat, and a cassette of S.M. Nurse on the independent label Top Tape. At the end of 1983, S.M. Nurse split up. Anneke Stempher and Jos Jak recorded a cassette for TopTape under the name Incredible Coop. Menko Konings continued solo under the name eM. He also started the formation No Honey From These with Robby Horsfall. Top Tape released several cassettes and cd's from eM. as well as No Honey From These. hard to please / LP

Consolidating 2 years of solo work, 'Hard To Please' is the debut album by Canadian polymath Sally Dige. 1st coming to prominence in the synth-wave scene with an elusive, meta-persona in a blur of homemade costumes, Dige's world has grown to encompass visual art, theatre and design elements. Most surprising on her long-awaited debut however is the occasional removal of the various masks and characters Dige has played to date, revealing something more tangible and fragile underneath.'Hard To Please' still revels in a darkly thrilling, italo-disco pop music, awash with dry ice and hidden in shadow, most personified on the instant classic "Immaculate Deception". However, on the long, nocturnal walk home Dige begins to sing of loneliness, being lost, the transience of our relationships. Attention to detail is paramount. On the title-track the crisp early 80's, swooning bass line duets with Dige's desperate plea to a lover fading into the distance, a presence lamented with even more pathos on the towering, early-4AD-esque, slow-burner "Your Girl". It's a new fragility that effortlessly manages to convey a luxurious, inescapable sensuality at the same time. Clear vinyl limited to 300 copies. Including download code.

Reissue of one of the top minimal synth Holy Grails out of there. 'Tanzmusik' is the 1st LP from Sam Rosenthal, boss of the historic Projekt Records label and mind of one of the most influential darkwave acts coming out of the US, Black Tape For A Blue Girl. Originally released in March 1985 and completely recorded at home on a 4-track TEAC-2340 with a super minimal setup (Korg Poly 61, Realistic Moog, Boss Dr-110 and some effects), the vinyl release was limited to 250 copies, with a tanish card glued to a white LP jacket. The album continues in the electronic mood-music tradition established by Sam on the Projekt Electronic Amerika cassettes, with the added intriques of the drum-computer, exploring the realms of electronic music that the critics have compared to Tangerine Dream, O.M.D. and Brian Eno. Black Tape for a Blue Girl, begin in 1986 after his move from Florida to California, serves as a vehicle for Rosenthal's musical vision. Its signature combination of gothic, ethereal, ambient and neo-classical elements has explored existential themes of loves lost and passions yet to come. After his early electronic work represented on 'Tanzmusik', his music has grown into a full-fledged band, whose members revolve around Rosenthal's subtle electronic foundation. In 1996, Rosenthal released his debut novel, 'The First Pain To Linger', which sold 10,000 self-released copies. In 2011, Rosenthal began work on his 2nd book, 'Rye', an erotic novel which will be self-published in the fall of 2012. Standard vinyl release limited to 500 copies..

want need / 12"

6-song ep by the UK/US duo Sandra Electronics. Originally formed as Sandra Plays Electronics by Karl O'Connor (aka Regis) in 1988, the project has evolved over the years to become a collaborative endeavor with Juan Mendez (aka Silent Servant). 3 of the tracks were 1st released as an 'Untitled' 10" on Downwards in 2010, and the record quickly sold out. Those songs have been re-edited and remastered for this ep, and 3 more rare demos and live versions have been added. The songs can be described as hypnotic industrial electronic mantras with enigmatic keyboards and treated vocals. Each track draws the listener in, with its repetitive psychedelic percussion and dark affected vocal. The record is a hand-numbered edition of 999 copies pressed on 180gr ultra clear vinyl, and housed in a high quality heavy weight printed sleeve featuring a vintage photograph of Samia Gamal.

Not much info on this obscure split 7"ep released on the prolific UK Downwards label. A-side is clearly minimal-synth wave orientated whereas B-side is more a kind of ritual abstract indusctrial tune. Not to be missed ;)

Label : Minimal Wave

her needs / 7"

7" release of primitive Diy electronics by Sandra Plays Electronics, a project founded by Karl O’Connor (Regis) whilst he was a teenager living in Birmingham, England in the 80's. O’Connor, mostly known for his pioneering work in the techno field (as Regis, Sandwell District, British Murder Boys, Ugandan Methods and various other entities) as well as his Downwards label, began playing and recording his own music when he was 16 years old. He collaborated with friends performing in short-lived bands such as Family Sex and also recorded on his own as Sandra Plays Electronics. He was heavily influenced by D.A.F., Liaisons Dangereuses, Cabaret Voltaire and Soft Cell, to name a few and would eventually collaborate with Robert Görl and also Chrislo Haas in the late 90's. The tracks we are presenting here are 2 versions of the same song, "Her Needs", both recorded in Birmingham, England. The 1st was recorded in 1988 during soundcheck at the College of Food And Domestic Arts and the second was recorded in 1999 (from the Man Has Responsibilities session) at the Ice House. Pressed on heavy weight 70gr ultra clear vinyl, the 7" is housed in a matte double sided printed foldover sleeve. Limited to 999 hand-numbered copies.

Among many other things Saralunden proves to be a dismal disco star. On this ep she sounds like a stripped down and darker counterpart of Sally Shapiro, presenting moody and sexy music which is in some ways similar to the italo influenced stuff Chromatics is doing, and with the same twisted erotic vibe of Pulp. This is dirty disco and we like to dance to it and make out on it. Limited to 200 copies !

area of violence / 12"

Savage Grounds released their 1st 3 records with Lux Rec., of which one of the members from this Swiss duo is the label boss. This new ep is the 1st release coming out elsewhere. Savage Grounds have created a sound of their own. A sort of post-techno which combines elements of techno, elektro, EBM, acid and industrial. But these tracks will for sure also appeal to lovers of analogue synth music. The whole ep sounds like it has been recorded in an one take synth jam. Raw and fierce synth sounds for the body and soul. Edition of 250 copies, screen printed in black & gold sleeve !

la vida sigue igual

Artist : Savage Hymn

Label : Dark Entries

la vida sigue igual / 12"

'La Vida Sigue Igual', the sophomore ep from Savage Hymn. The project is a collaboration between Miami born-and-bred Mystic Bill Torres (Trax, Relief, Classic) and native New Yorker Jake Reif (Device Control, Upsetting Keys). Jake spent some musically formative years in the Midwest, drawing influence from the cultures of Chicago and Detroit. Fueled by the underground energy of warehouse and loft parties of the era, he began his Dj career in the early 90's. Bill grew up going to goth and industrial clubs in Miami before moving to Chicago where he held residencies at clubs with Johnny Fiasco, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, and Ralphi Rosario. The duo is heavily influenced by the early Chicago house and Detroit techno sounds as well as European electronic body music like Front 242 and Liaisons Dangereuses. Their 1st release 'Indecision' was a white label for Rong Music in 2015. 'La Vida Sigue Igual' is immediately a more physical affair than its predecessor, kicking off with the title track, a hard hitting percussive monster. The sparse simplicity of the machine gun synth work & monotone Spanish vocals by Mystic Bill evoke classic 80's industrial and art house dance tracks. We've included the instrumental version for adventurous Djs who want play doubles. On the B-side are 2 versions of the track "Animals". Version 1 explores the underbelly of NY with maniacal industrial rhythms and samples from Diamanda Galas and Travis Bickle (Robert DeNiro) in Taxi Driver. Version 2 ventures into dark freestyle territory, fueled by the underground energy of Chicago's Warehouse and Medusas clubs. The vinyl comes housed in a jacket with hand drawn illustration of night time jungle themes designed by Eloise Leigh and screen printed in muted teal pantone on French environment paper by Stumptown Printers. Each ep includes a postcard with a black and white photograph of the duo.

Scape One, aka south coast based UK producer Kurt Baggaley, is one of the rising stars of the international electro scene, thanks in no small part to a series of acclaimed releases on labels such as World Electric, Mass Transit, Satamile and Electrix. Now a 4 track ep which hosts a range of styles & moods. "Fizzy Soda" kicks off with warm synths and funk breaks, simultaneously quirky and smooth. "Mindbridge" is slightly darker and more experimental, while on the flip "Avatar" aims for the dancefloor with pulses of pure electric funk. "Utopian Etude" closes off with gentle Plaid styled synth arpeggios and warm chords. Another release that is worthwhile holding the Emoticon name. Tip !

In the mid 90s, under the influence of Aux 88 and Drexciya, Scape One released some of the most seminal electro records of the day. This ep sees Scape One look back to the roots of the pure electro sound and inject it with some sci-fi futurism. 808 rhythms which would sound at home in an 80's old school electro production are updated, retrofitted and laid out on some hi-tech sounds originating from deep within Scape One's studio. One for electro freaks (past, present, future) looking for straight up unhinged metallic funk. According to us, probably the best release from this artist ;)

Artist : Scarlet Architect

eternal return / LP+CD

Genetic Music load up a real new-wave bullet, or 11 of them to be precise, from the very little known Scarlet Architect. Compiling the group's only release (an eponymous 4-track zinger issued in 1982 thru Coalition Records), together with 7 previously unreleased peaches from the same era, this is in effect their debut LP, exhibiting sharpened drum machine/dancefloor instincts coupled with an arch pop sound. Vocals are stately but almost cabaret in a sophisticated, ambiguous manner, whilst their grooves are slick and tight, layered with melodic synth hooks, at best in the eerie, Tuxedomoon-alike "Monetary Options", whilst the perkier funk of "Dance 'Til Dawn" recalls that Tomo Akikawabaya reissue on Minimal Wave and "Action Painting" sports some mental fusion of Prince and Devo by way of Russ Abott that needs to be heard to be believed.

30 years after the 1st release in 1982 the 'Psychotron' album has been repressed as a limited remastered collector edition by Private Records. The special thing about this release is not only the fact that this repress is an official and exact vinyl reproduction of the valuable cosmic, minimal synth cult album. Only for this release PJ Wassermann dubbed the recording with high end equipment from the original old analog tape which resulted in an audio quality that could be easily described as audiophile. Schaltkreis Wassermann's 'Psychotron' as you never heard it before! Huge..

Label : Minimal Wave

hunker / 10"

Here is a limited edition hand-silkscreened 10" of Schedelvreter, the Dutch side project of brilliant minimal synth pioneer Danny Bosten (aka Das Ding). The 7 tracks were originally recorded in Danny's home studio in the Netherlands and self-released on a cassette entitled 'Hunker' via his Tear Apart Tapes label in 1985. Unlike Das Ding, Schedelvreter is not pattern-based or sequenced, the synth sounds are hand played over a collage of found sounds. At the time, Danny was experimenting with a Crumar synth that was falling apart, and would sporadically create sounds that were like human voices. He created massive drum sounds by layering noise, using leftover 4-track additions in reverse and some live drum recordings courtesy of his brother's tapes. The end result feels narrative and filmic, like the soundtrack to an imaginary apocalyptic movie: bleak & desolate. Be fast to grab this limited to 999 hand-silkscreened numbered copies pressed on black medium weight vinyl ;)

But more important, this is non-stop decadent party music. :D

Scorpion Violente is gay beast from France obsessed with analogue trash electronics and bad sexual habits. After unleashing a first 7" split the great 12" "Rome Violente" on Bruit Direct, you had the pleasure to meet on your path earlier this year, this 2-headed monster gets its 1st full-length album out right now on Avant!. This Lp features 8 longs tracks of pure mental disease from the middle of nowhere. Musically speaking this is a sort of sick mix between Giorgio Moroder italo-disco, the paranoid minimal wave performed by Suicide in 1977 and the early industrial-wave electronics by Cabaret Voltaire. Comes in full color sleeve plus insert with awesome artwork and nasty lyrics, and secret engraved message. 2nd pressing edition of 300 copies on red vinyl for your obnoxious taste ;)

the rapist / LP

After a 1st remarkable effort in 2010, the punks with synths of Scorpion Violente return with the mini-LP 'The Rapist' on Teenage Menopause. Scorpion Violente is a good provocative lexical field: 'The Rapist' thus, but also tracks as "Fugue De Pute Mineure", "The Cherrypopper".. combined with cheap 80's porn pictures. The mosellan duet digs the same groove since its debuts: dirty synths, military beatbox and scattered voices lost for humanity. That smells warm beer. It feels debauchery. It is glaucous as a backroom of Budapest. But nevertheless this is so good! From the first notes of "Pumping Iron", the poison infiltrates, insidiously. Melodies picked by Scorpion Violente are simply unstoppable. You have only one will: dance, but guts sight. In the middle of the mini-LP, appears the tearing UFO "Strychnine". Almost pop. Rather moving. Follows the eponymic piece "The Rapist", which finally turns out to be the softest track of the record in spite of its threatening title. We assist a high Mass psyche of more than 11 minutes on the dancefloor. High sensitive guys they are ;)

the stalker / 12"

A flaming tribute to the peaks of low budget Italian crime flicks and to synthwave as lubed-up as we need, poisoned with synthetic drugs and the rust from circuit boards, Scorpion Violente are the epitome of everything the entrepreneurial divertimento generation hate. Feeling up their synths with all the vigor of a manic depressive on a downward slope, our 2 hosts emit their dirty feedback-washed discharge, adding Ich Bin and Le Syndicat Electronique to their holiday activity books. The tempo is even slower than before, with echoes more distant than In Aeternum Vale and Ike Yard dripping from their stabbing loops. Litanies almost crashing into chasms ooze in this cold cyclo-rhythmic blues, sure to make Alan Vega turn in his grave. Sick, sordid old crooning spat like bile from a wounded animal, fairy tales of ordinary madness, everyday nightmares and steel-reinforced rock ab from Lorraine, drifting in the cold gas-clouds of sulfur-laced heroin. These dudes are not fucking around, they go all the way. No remorse. Life rules most when it sucks, and maybe it's right there, in the firmament of famine, in the atrium of deserted factories, where the last vestiges of poetry survive. They sure kept us stewing since their 1st ep, but it was well worth the wait..

Architects of live act with a great sound and visual impact, Scortilla played around Italy by the hideouts of the underground music by establishing their headquarter at the Psycho Club of Genova, the cradle of true art-rock scene of the period. The Screen Vinyl Image / Rude 66 split 7" takes dark industrial electro sounds and edgy Wax Trax / 4AD era guitars and pushes them to the outer limits; offering up a heavy dose of new-wave futurism. Screen Vinyl Image, well known for putting on raging guitar feedback shows, are also no strangers to electronic music, and their track "Tomorrow Is Too Far" is possibly the furthest the band has gone yet in the realm of analog machines and horror/sci-fi themes. Rude 66, one of the founders of The Hague acid sound, and who has released records with Bunker, Crème Organization, Viewlexx and more, brings us "I Am God", a march into darkness filled with stabbing basses, cold synths, edgy guitars and vocoder vocals by wife Shauna Lekx, delivered in calculated bloodlust and horror. seekers / 12"

The Makina GirGir-run label Falco Invernale Records (F.I.R.) have been working with Seacrypt to release their mini-album 'Seekers', a totally new album in which they explore deeper electronica and more inherently melodic sensibilities that have been hidden earlier with their release on Katabatik, titled 'A Momentary Rift'. They have matured as a group and are moving to have even more warmth in their analogue synth-pop with coldwave overtones. Since their 1st release in 2012, which also was a great release in itself in another way, this is a militarized version that you can hear in their new release. More focus on the organic features that need to be kept alive in the landscape of sound. Everything is connectable and together it makes their sound more grandiose. With militarization (there is a certain overlapping theme of urgency in their material), a certain discipline in regards to the focus of the instrumentation, the delivered product meets the qualities they've looked out for, for this record. The melancholic intentions and the darkly lyrics that are spouted in a more enigmatic fashion, switching from a duo of a female and a male, to going completely solo. This changes into disco-vibes with dark beats on the B-side, showing how versatile this group really can be. It's the 7th release on F.I.R., one of our favorites. You must listen to it !

world of rubber / 2x12"

Second Layer was a side project of Adrian Borland & Graham Bailey, members of post-punk band The Sound. The project was born from early punk band The Outsiders, which had both Graham and Adrian as members. Second Layer featured the voice and guitars of Adrian mixed with the bass and pioneering electronics of Graham. The music was bleak, detached, and desolate, but very beautiful. Honest songwriting and a harsh sonic backdrop set them apart from their peers. The band's 1st 2 singles were released by Tortch label. The 1st was 'Flesh As Property' ep in 1979 and the 2nd 'State Of Emergency' ep in 1980. By 1981 Second Layer had found a home on London-based label Cherry Red and released their debut album 'World Of Rubber' in november of that year. Full of hard mechanical sounds produced by Adrian's guitars and Graham's homemade drum machines, the album actively engages the listener. Songs are manic and twisted, pervaded with haunting subterranean atmospheres. Adrian's anguished voice tackles lyrics that are politically charged and morbidly fixated. Metallic guitar riffs, moody basslines, and Wasp synthesizer beeps are set to the band's cache of processed tape loops. They are a homegrown electronic garage band that sit alongside their contemporaries Joy Division, Cabaret Voltaire and Public Image Limited. This deluxe 2xLP edition features the complete recorded output of Second Layer plus 5 unreleased demos from 1978-80. Each LP comes in an exact replica of the original metallic sliver and black jacket from the 1981 issue with a never seen before fold out poster made by the band in 1980 with liner notes, photos and press clippings. Though Adrian passed away in 1999, his genius lives on in these recordings. Clap the headphones on, squeeze the volume up..!

Dark vocodered vocals lay out the sinister edge that seperates this from your garden variety booty-shaker. On the flip, honorary Miami citizen Andrea Parker rebuilds with immense deep bass and a perfect stripped down feel. Selofan is the Greek term for Cellophane, a thin, transparent sheet, protecting items, keeping them fresh and allowing them to breathe while in storage. The music of the duo from Athens is transparent, fresh and takes your breath away. It is strictly analogue, though alongside the synthesizers, drum-machines and loops a bass line, a dreamy piano and saxophone melody may surprise you. The female voice narrates about love and the loss of it, about death and the fear of it, about sexuality and the repression of it, about addictions, psychological weaknesses or strengths, all our own personal ghosts, which distinguish humans from other species. The power and tenderness of the male vocals penetrate your senses directly. This is their debut LP 'Verboten' limited to 500 copies & including download link and innersleeve.

tristesse / LP

The 2nd full-lenght of Selofan is worth wondering how so many music elements and different styles can be perfectly combined into a homogenous soundtrack, a trip back in time and yet so modern and individual. 12 new tracks of diverse music structures and moods, which reflect the maturation of this gifted duo. Side A is of a deep romantic sensibility. Unlike their previous 'Verboten' LP, though still following the synthesizer and drum machine strategies, Selofan use more instruments, the bass and saxophone playing the leading role, all put together at their home studio. This record needs 'instructions for use' and you will find them on the B side. Things are not as they seem, each track reveals a completely new cosmos, a piece of classical piano music, a rhythmic tango, old school dark wave and synthpunk tracks coexist in harmony. The expressive story-telling enters the mind with caustic lyrics of existential anguish as well as the poetry of Rilke and Hesse. Once you enter Selofans' "Ciné Romance" you will never want to leave again. You will be transferred in a new-wave world of playful irony, electronic melodies and experimentation. Once we go through the gates of this Cinema we shall forget our fears in the sound of a cinematic track inspired by David Lynchs' movie Dune. After this catharsis we are ready to enter the dark, mutant world of (according to our opinion) the currenlty most visionary band emerging from the Greek underground. Selofans' world is multi sided, you may feel directly connected to it and the next moment you may lose the ground under your feet. Polymorphism comes from Greece and has always been a characteristic for Selofans' music. The album is singular in concept but varies genres: dark-wave treasures, synth-punk spells, melodic saxophone fairy-tales and early industrial beats coexist in harmony, while a hallucinating voice sings or whispers poems of great emotional tension in different languages, exposing uncomfortable truths. This album transfers a powerfully original fusion of energies and is meant to be only for the wild at heart! A limited to 1000 copies future-classic! live at roscoe louie / 10"

Sequencer People is one of the many projects which the prolific US duet formed by Roland Barker and James Husted carried out in the early 80's. Under this pseudonym, we just have the proof of a cassette recorded in 1982 by the independent American label Engram Records & Tapes, from Seattle, which collects the only concert recorded in the art gallery Roscoe Louie, from Seattle as well. Apart from this short association, the American duet minimal-synth, formed by Roland and James, took part in lots of other projects, sometimes together with other groups (Young Scientist, or Body Falling Downstairs), other times concurrently (Audio Leter, or K7SS) and also on their own. As James himself points out, the essence of all these groups was improvisation, that is to say, they never compounded following limited patterns. They used to have a very simple structure which they were developing without a previous schedule. For this reason they have never conceived the term 'song' in their wide musical production; instead, they talked about 'performances' or 'improvisations'. Anyway, in all their projects we always find an obvious tendency towards experimentation, in essence, with electronic instruments and the discovery of new possibilities with analogic technology, as well as the creation of dark sounding universes, industrial and open to a lot of possibilities. Now, for the 1st time, Domestica introduces to you these 2 jewels of the most subterranean and trend setting electronic music, in vinyl format. Edition of 400 numbered copies, presented in a hand-made silk-screen printed cover sleeve.!

horizons vol.7 galaxi / LP

'Galaxi' by Sergio Ferraresi was originally released as library album on the old Italian family enterprise music label Abramo Allione Srl in 1979. Only some hundred copies were given out back in the days and it don't caused a big furor. In the past few years 'Galaxi' got more and more hyped in the vinyl collector scene. That's no wonder because the album brings 12 unbelievable electronic instrumental space disco tracks to the surface which still sounding extremely fresh. Especially dark and weired compositions that without any exaggeration could be described as a mixture between Black Devil & Air. However the original LP album was hardly ever offered for sale and as far as we are concerned the last original Galaxi vinyl album sold in 2012 (at a price of 270€). So this re-release makes sense, bringing some straight Italien disco productions back to the music fans and the dancefloor. Enjoy this lost and unconsumed music masterpiece! Smashing audio quality, loud pressing, 24bit technology dubbing of the original Abramo Allione master tape! Cover artwork by John Berkey (the artist who designed the 70's & 80's Star Wars movie posters!). Limited to 200 copies !

evolution⁵ technology / 12"

Series-A was the duo of Sam Anderson aka Dj Maestro and Dave Webb (aka Kid Fresh). Sam & Dave both grew up listening to the sounds of the Electrifying Mojo on WJLB in Detroit. They met in 1983 at a Dj gig that they were both hired to play. In 1986, they collaborated on the Nu-Sound II Crew project. After developing a friendship with Juan Atkins, they became hip to the emerging new club sounds that were to become electro and techno. Their subsequent project, Series-A, was named after different car model numbers, but also hints at the evolution of humankind into a new species. In 1987, Series-A recorded the single "Evolution ⁵ Technology" at Spectrum Sounds Studio in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Their set up was a vocoder, E-mu Emulator III, Roland 909 drum machine, and an Otari 24-Track recorder. They landed a record deal with Satellite Records in Burbank, California, which had been founded by Pete Moore of The Miracles. After pressing 50 promotional copies, the label ran into financial problems, and the record never reached a full release. Taking cues Kraftwerk, Grand Master DST, Grandmaster Flash & Jam Master Jay, Series-A created dark electro beats in an era when sampling appeared to be the future of music. Lyrically the song addresses our species' entry into the technological age. For this ep reissue, the '7" Mix' and 'Dub Mix' are included on the A-side. On the flip is a new remix by prolific Ann Arbor producer JTC, an alias of Tadd Mullinix (aka Dabrye, SK-1, & Charles Manier). JTC speeds up and expands the song to 7 minutes. Drawing on influences from Ron Hardy to Jeff Mills, he drives around suburban techno landscapes while simultaneously launching the listener into deep space. The jacket is specially designed by Eloise Leigh and features a cyborg fossil motif with RGB color band and gradients. Each copy includes a post card with with notes.

Only a very few bands in the current electro-industrial circuit are still producing a somehow innovative and authentic sound. The Swedish duo Severe Illusion (aka Ulf Lundblad on machines & Fredrik Djurfeldt on vocals) surely can be called to this by combining extremely distorted vocals with oldschool-like EBM sequences and some raw and almost chaotic lo-fi noises filled in. Their exploding style has entered a lot of respect and a wide recognition in years... Special One ;)

since the accident / LP

Severed Heads reissue of 1983's 'Since The Accident' LP. Severed Heads are one of the most diverse and expert sound palette engineers and are also repeatedly overlooked and far underrated. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, they formed in 1979. The band was composed of many different members though it's existence but Tom Ellard has always been the constant since 1979 when he joined the band. The group's early recordings were characterized by manipulated tape loop experiments, cleverly modulated noise elements and repetition. This period is very well suited to the early industrial period. Over time, the sounds morphed into more melodic leanings with pop elements and more prominent synth leads and backbone. 'Since The Accident' was released in 1983 on UK Ink Records. The LP exemplifies the transition point between experimental structure and loops into the catchy pop hooks that would later define such releases as 'Rotund For Success'. Difficult to classify, it is a masterpiece of electronic music. The opening track "Relic Of The Empire" is a slow sequenced magnificent piece with time-stretched samples overlaid with multiple tracks to create a symphony quite unlike anything heard before. The hit "Dead Eyes Opened" (charted in 1985 as a single) is a dancefloor friendly track with crafted synth hooks fused with bursts of noise intertwining with interesting vocal samples. "Gashing The Old Mae West" is a perfect example of how the record can take a dark turn into the style of the earlier Severed Heads with jagged industrial crunched out tape loops and folding in and out samples. Though signed to 80's industrial label icon Nettwerk in North America and often classified in the same vein, these records are not easily definable and actually have a life of their own. Though commonly misclassified with a lot of the late 80's industrial/goth scene (as well as touring with Skinny Puppy at one point), Severed Heads would be more accurately in good company with acts such as Cabaret Voltaire, early Coil, Chris & Cosey (and CTI), and the like. Long out of print and a rarity on the collector's market, it is presented with original repro jacket. Remastered by Tom Ellard form the original source masters. Presented on high-quality 180gr heavyweight black and white vinyl. Features bonus LP insert compiled by Tom Ellard with ephemera from the time. Limited edition.

Severed Heads reissue of 1985's 'City Slab Horror' LP. Over time, the sounds morphed into more melodic leanings with pop elements and more prominent synth leads and backbone. 'City Slab Horror' was released in 1985 on UK Ink Records. The LP though 2 years after 'Since The Accident' continues to carry the torch illustrating the evolving transition between experimental structure and loops into the catchy pop hooks that would later define such releases as "Rotund For Success". This LP seems to move slightly into darker territory in general with it's synth textures and slower tempo tracks but overall has a nice continuation feel from 'Since The Accident' yet with obvious technological evolutions. The opening track "Spasm" drags the listener down the Severed Head mental rabbit hole instantly with it's heady samples and eloquent drum machine rhythm. "Spitoon Thud" is a rambunctious affair with it's cacophony of samples and percussion. "4.W.D." is a great sneak peak into the sound of the Severed Heads LPs to come with it's treated vocals and pop hooks. Next to last is the amazing "Goodbye Tonsils" track which is unstoppably catchy and features more of the creative use of samples which made this group so interesting. Though signed to 80's industrial label icon Nettwerk in North America and often classified in the same vein, these records are not easily definable and actually have a life of their own. Though commonly misclassified with a lot of the late 80's industrial/goth scene (as well as touring with Skinny Puppy at one point), Severed Heads would be more accurately in good company with acts such as Cabaret Voltaire, early Coil, Chris & Cosey (and CTI), and the like. dead eyes opened

dead eyes opened / 12"

Severed Heads are one of the longest surviving bands to emerge from the Australian post-punk independent music scene. They began in Sydney in 1979, incorporating elements of industrial noise-generation, tape cutting & looping and electronic sound synthesis. As the project developed song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro pop style. After many line-up changes featuring Gary Bradbury and psychedelic guitarist Simon Knuckey, Severed Heads was the vehicle for composer Tom Ellard. By 1983 they released a C-60 cassette called 'Since The Accident' that grabbed the attention of Ink Records, a subsidiary of Virgin in the UK. Ellard added a throwaway track at the last minute to fill out the cassette, not wanting to leave an unseemly gap on a C60 tape. This track, "Dead Eyes Opened" was catchy enough to get a lot of airplay on the main non-commercial radio station in Sydney. The band was asked to make this song into a 12" single. For this extended version, Tom Ellard and producer Patrick Gibson went to M Squared studio and passed the multitrack through various EQ and delays. "Dead Eyes Opened" features lyrics from a radio program narrated by Edgar Lustgarten, a crime journalist from England. They reference an actual double murder case that occurred in 1924 calling to mind the gruesome imagery of Hannibal Lecter. The rhythms are made by a TR-808 drum machine and an SH-1 synthesizer. A KORG PolySix did the rising wafty sound and strings. The load solo was a Casiotone run through an Octaver foot pedal. On the B-side are 2 solo compositions "Bullet" and "Mount" that Ellard recorded at Terse Tapes in 1982. Housed in the original jacket featuring the iconic photograph of a girl with a painted face wrapped in some cloth by Juilee Pryor. Each copy includes a fold-out newsprint poster with a large photo of the band wearing Art Unit skull shirts on one side and liner notes and press clippings on the other. 30 years later Severed Heads are still paving the way for powerful imaginative challenging music far and wide.

Severed Heads are one of the longest surviving bands to emerge from the Australian post-punk independent music scene. They began in Sydney in 1979, incorporating elements of industrial noise-generation, tape cutting & looping and electronic sound synthesis. As the project developed song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro-pop style. After many line-up changes featuring Garry Bradbury and psychedelic guitarist Simon Knuckey, Severed Heads was the vehicle for composer Tom Ellard. In 1985 their record label asked them to release a retrospective, so they dragged out bits that we had lying around from 1979 up til 1983. The compilation was titled 'Clifford Darling Please Don't Live In The Past', spread out into a montage over 4 sides of vinyl. Bradbury and Ellard would fuss each bit and sling it on their new digital recorder, and since they still have the digital recorder, this reissue is made directly from the bits assembled 20 years ago. This compilation includes live recordings, raw demos, unreleased studio recordings and solo pieces from each member of the band during from the first 5 years. Their early music was characterized by the use of tape loops, noisy arrangements of synthesizers and other dissonant sound sources in the general category of industrial music. After several releases in that vein, Severed Heads began incorporating various popular music tropes, such as a consistent 4/4 rhythm, strong melodic lines, resolving chord arrangements and the occasional vocal. This move was underscored by the incorporation of mimetic devices, such as drum machines and bass synthesizers. The result was a striking hybrid of the avant-garde industrial and pop. Housed in a jacket featuring brightly colored, distorted, VHS graphics output by Stephen Jones' video synthesizer created by Tom Ellard video piece 'Kato Gets The Girl' in 1985, designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes a fold-out poster with a color video still photo on one side and liner notes and credits on the other. 30 years later Severed Heads' perverse creativity is still paving the way for powerful imaginative challenging music far and wide.
