Artist : Opera Multi Steel

Label : Dark Entries

untitled / 12"

Opera Multi Steel was born during the winter of 1983 in Bourges, a city in the center of France. The band started off as a trio with Franck Lopez (vocals, keyboards, guitars), his brother Patrick L. Robin (vocals, percussion) and Catherine M. Marie (keyboards, vocals). They began to record demos utilizing a Elex Keyboard, Casio VL-Tone, Roland TR-606 drum machine, guitars and pedals. Layering organ-like keyboards over drum machine snares and a woodwind recorder, they created a unique style of medieval or baroque synth-pop. The result was a 4-song debut, eponymous ep, released in 1984 on their own label Orcadia Machina. The songs range from fast and bright, new-wave influenced by O.M.D.'s "Electricity" and slower, brooding darkwave ballads like "17 Seconds", 'Faith' era Cure. All songs were sung in French with lyrics about feeling of nihilism, disgust with life and escaping to a botanical garden in search of redemption. It was a pre-cursor to their darker and classic French coldwave sounds of their debut album 'Cathedrale' released the following year. The jacket is die-cut replica of the original sleeve using master templates the band created in 1984 and offset printed on heavy French off-white card stock. Each copy includes an inner sleeve printed with lyrics and perspective line drawings by Jean Vredeman de Vries from the 17th century.

new mexico ep / 12"

Andy Oppenheimer, a science editor from UK and Martin Lloyd of Analysis formed this duo in the early 80's. This twelve-inch four track EP originally taken from various tapes reminds us the early Human League with their strong synth-melodies (Radiance). Lyrics are well-thought-out, incisive and provocative (Cold War)... and at the opposite Andy dives us into a futuristic and new romantic mood with the cult "Devil's Dancers" track. To complete our pleasure this 12" contains a beautiful poster including the lyrics. 4th repress edition...

new mexico

Artist : Oppenheimer Analysis

Label : Minimal Wave

new mexico / 2x12"

Newly remastered deluxe double album of archival material by pioneering 80's minimal electronic duo Oppenheimer Analysis. Oppenheimer Analysis formed in London, England in 1982 by Andy Oppenheimer & Martin Lloyd. Their 1st meeting though was at the 1979 World Science Fiction Convention in Brighton. They quickly became good friends, sharing an interest in the work of David Bowie, electronic music and early synthesizer bands such as the Human League and Soft Cell. They also shared a love of old science fiction movies, 50's graphics and comic book imagery and a fascination with post-World War II propaganda, the politics and aesthetics of the Cold War, and the social impact of the atomic bomb. Over the next few years Andy and Martin frequented the growing club scene, including Studio 21 on Oxford Street, and became involved in the developing Futurist and New Romantic style sub-cultures. During this period Martin recorded as Analysis, both alone and with David Rome of Drinking Electricity. They released their 1st single, 'Surface Tension/Connections' on David's Survival label in 1981. In 1982, Oppenheimer Analysis began writing and recording together at Feedback Studio in Battersea, and performed several times at The Bell, Islington, the 1983 World David Bowie Convention in Hammersmith, the Starzone Birthday Party at Camden Palace, the 1984 European Science Fiction Convention in Brighton and other live venues. Their 1st demo tape and 12 song 'New Mexico' cassette were sold at gigs and by mail-order, and were reviewed in Melody Maker, Sounds and Soundmaker. For the years to follow, Oppenheimer Analysis became recognized among electro-music aficionados as a pioneering duo who influenced countless other bands during the club and home-recording era of the early 80's and beyond. Their cassettes became massively collectible. In 2005 they re-formed with the release of a self-titled four song 12"ep of selections from the 'New Mexico' cassette, including "Cold War" and "The Devil's Dancers". This marked the 1st release on Minimal Wave. Now in 2015, the entire 'New Mexico' collection, newly remastered and cut to vinyl for the 1st time ever, celebrates 10 year anniversary of Minimal Wave. This 1st edition of 1000 copies is pressed on deluxe 'nuclear' style black and white 160gr vinyl, housed in a glossy gatefold silver and black printed sleeve, featuring all the song lyrics on the inside of the sleeve. This quintessential reissue has been produced in loving memory of Martin Lloyd. RIP

Mark Lane is a solo artist from Ventura (USA), who has been making music since the 70's and recorded this track "Who's Really Listening" in 1984. 2 masterpieces in 1 record ;)

another nightmare / 7"

Oppenheimer MKII is Andy Oppenheimer & Mahk Rumbae. Andy Oppenheimer: singer, songwriter and formerly one-half of 80's synth-pop duo Oppenheimer Analysis, one of the leading bands of the ‘minimal synth’ scene, and inspiration behind the Minimal Wave label. Mahk Rumbae: electronic musician and producer known for his work with long-running UK industrial/experimental band Konstruktivists. Andy & Mahk joined forces after performing together at Vienna's legendary electronic music venue Rhiz in april 2012, and discovering a shared love for for 60's pop & 80's synth music. After their debut album 'The Presence Of The Abnormal', released in 2013, and the 'Line Of Sight' ep released in 2015, the band return with a new single "Another Nightmare" on Peripheral Minimal. Follow up album of OMITD from '81 to their self-titled debut with on it the cult New Wave song "Enola Gay". tesla girls

Artist : Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark

Label : Virgin

tesla girls / 12"

Taken from their 1984 album "Junk Culture", "Tesla Girls" is about people that use technology and don't know how they work. This is some sort of philosophical idea. So the girl that has a shallow interest in appliances and beauty actually are worshiping the god of technology. Tesla invented the coil that heats air in hairdryers etc.. Great synth-pop by UK legends O.M.D.

Artist : Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark

Taken from the "Crush" album from 1985, this "Secret" single is one of the best synth-pop made in the 80's by this 'no need to present' UK band.. ;)

dazzle ships

Artist : Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark

Label : Virgin

dazzle ships / LP

OMD's 4th album followed a reasonably successful self-titled debut in 1980, then the escalating successes of the same year's "Organisation", and "Architecture & Morality" in 1981, but now the lads felt it was time for some experimentation. Britain and Europe in the early 80's was dominated by Margaret Thatcher and her Cold War politics, and this threatening atmosphere greatly influenced Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys' themes on "Dazzle Ships"; however, despite the album's quirky mix of futuristic sounds and Iron Curtain radio broadcasts evoking almost pre-electricity sentiments, it wasn't all doom and gloom. "Genetic Engineering", "Telegraph", "Radio Waves" and "Of All The Things We've Made" all fall well within the synth-pop field, but tracks such as "Time Zones", "This Is Helena" and "ABC Auto-Industry", with found and mechanised vocals, threw the fans completely, as did the title track's evocation of the nightmare world of submarine dread and sonar-blip tension. A couple of the more balladic tracks, such as the dreamy "Romance Of The Telescope", bear vestiges of the late new romantic era, but ultimately the ballads, the pop numbers, the darker moments, the Eastern Bloc radio programs and the assorted bleeps & mechanical voices all seamlessly combine in one of popular music's finest offerings. Top album !!

texas, brooklyn and heaven

Artist : Orgue Electronique

Label : Crème Organization

texas, brooklyn and heaven / 12"

This record shows that Brian Chinetti (aka Orgue Electronique) won't be trapped in a genre. "Texas Brooklyn Heaven" has a distinct Chicago house sound. However as always, this artist manages to leave something like a personal autograph. It just combines everyhting you heard from Orgue Electronique before : the minimal analog filtered sounds, the sleazy disconess, the stiff yet funky repetitive basslines, all are combined in a typical 1988 Chicago sound taking it to a level of it's own. And that spells Fresh !

Hot Chicago influenced tracks by Legowelt's buddy Orgue Electronique. Orgue has been dropping some amazing tracks last years... So we couldn't wait to hear his new release ! And it turned out to be magic again. Every release seems to be better then the one he did before ! 5 cool Mr Fingers influenced tracks with a touch of Nu-Groove NY early 90 house flavors. world unrelated

Artist : Ortrotasce

Label : FlexiWave

world unrelated / 7"

Ortrotasce follow their appearance on one of last year's finest new compilations '290.625' for Sweden's Flexiwave label, with a debut pair of sheer body-wave missiles. "World Unrelated" is a lean and insistent update of classic cold wave, driving and emotional; "Lost Concept" is icier, moodier, revolving around a brilliant guitar hook straight out of The Cure, RIYL Cold Cave or Cult Of Youth. Nice One ;)

Artist : Ortrotasce

Label : Disko Obscura

untitled / LP

Disko Obscura presents Ortrotasce's self-titled debut album. A binary selection of the artist's prolific work, Ortrotasce is a 2-headed beast. Side A opens with the brilliant "World Un Related", underscored by anxious synths, driving bassline, and spectral vocals. "New System" follows suit with throbbing drums and a woeful guitar rhythm, while the instrumentals "Diffuse" and "Shatter" feature heavy coldwave synths and dizzying sequences. Side B turns feral headlined by "Losing Mind", an EBM behemoth driven by loaded industrial percussion and savage singing/shouting. The same severity surfaces in "The Body", "Passion", and "Expanding Room", the latter a tenebrous instrumental marked by clever and infectious bass lines and rhythms. Limited to 500 hand numbered copies, pressed on black 160gr vinyl with thick spot glossed black on black pocket jacket and custom insert. Tip !

Mastered for vinyl by A.J. Tissian and pressed on high quality 160gr black vinyl with gold ink printed inner labels, also elegantly designed by Jean Lorenzo. A must for minimal synth fans..!

Artist : Os Ovni

Label : Something Cold

let's leave reality / LP

Debut LP from Florida's intergalactic synth duo, Os Ovni. Having performed together for 15 years under various experimental electronic projects, Logan Owlbeemoth and Omebi Velouria formed Os Ovni in 2010 while living in Austin, TX. With two 7" & 12" releases and an appearance on the Something Cold compilation LP behind them, the vortex they navigate with us continues to grow. 'Let's Leave Reality' features 8 tracks of experimental electronic pop lost in time and space. The psychedelic harmonies and colliding layers of synths paint a vision of a future that isn't so much bleak as it is paranoid. Hyper-paced drum machines buzz under the shimmering structure of the synths. Logan and Omebi's vocals stir in perfect harmony glazed with lost celluloid inspired visions. 'Let's Leave Reality' is a transmission that could have only resonated from somewhere as extraterrestrial as Florida. Os Ovni has continued to teach us how to escape reality, and explore our dreams. They might not have come from outer space to save the human race, rather leave our thoughts abducted in haze of analogue oscillations and fragile pop melodies. White vinyl edition limited to 200 copies. Fresh..

two instrumentals / 7"

Ltd 7" (200 copies) of the newly discovered guitar band from UK & Berlin. The A-side is a great wave hymn having let's say a little bit of For Against maybe and a bit of early Sisters. The B-side reminds us of Jesus & Mary Chain. But still you always hear the Shoegaze influences too and that Mr. Steward likes bands such as Skywave. Tip !

purge an urge

Artist : Oto

Label : Desire Records

purge an urge / LP

After the success of the 'Anyway' 12", Oto, now a 3-piece band, played a few gigs before entering the studio to record their one and only album 'Purge An Urge'. Produced by Vincent Hachet from French industrial duo Geinst Naït, 'Purge An Urge' was supposed to contain 9 tracks but the final release saw only 6 tracks. Cécile from fellow Nancy's band Candidate even did some backing vocals. Released in 1986 on French label Divine, known to have released Mecano, Tuxedomoon, Fra Lippo Lippi, Minimal Compact, etc., it was poorly promoted and was mainly sold in Nancy area. The music was as vibrant as their 1st effort and evokes the sound of bands like Second Layer, End Of Data, Das Kabinette, Grauzone or Martin Dupont. Pascal Hubert then formed and still performs in French successful alternative band Double Nelson. Now a much sought-after record, 'Purge An Urge' is reissued for the very 1st time on vinyl. This release has been entirely remastered by Anders Post from the original vinyl. Fat record on orange vinyl with printed inner-sleeve and download card, limited to 300 copies. :)

ute på vift

Artist : PA Tronic

Label : Anna Logue Records

ute på vift / LP

PA Tronic were childhood friends Patric Dimander & Anders Wågberg from Skyttorp near Uppsala, in Sweden. They were active between 1983 and 1985 while in their youngest teenage years, influenced by the electronic pop heroes of the time Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, The Twins, Heaven 17, or Sweden's own Page or Noise. Originally equipped with a Roland TR-606, a SCI Pro-One, a Yamaha CS-01 and an Elka string machine (later to be followed by a TR-909, Korg Mono/Poly, Poly-61, Poly-800, Roland Juno-60), they went off to record their own electro pop hits in their parents' basements, full of awesome manual bass synth 'sequencing', synthetic percussion, meldodies and vocals in English or Swedish. They had quite a bit of hits, just listen to "Sol", "The Future", "Ute På Vift" as well as their epic theme "PA1" or "Söker" which reminds of good'ole F242 times. This album 'Ute På Vift' compiles all rescued recordings from 1983/84 plus adding 2 new recordings of "Ute På Vift" and "Sol" from 2011 to the track list. In 2010 PA Tronic also reformed in order to finally fulfill their dream of recording a proper album. Nothing more to say then but 'Fill your head with PA Tronic!'.

in the grassfield

Artist : Palais Des Bauzards

Label : OnderStroom Records

in the grassfield / LP

Palais Des Bauzards persued an industrial and electronic variant of the sound that swept into vogue during the 1st half of the 80's. This compilation digs into the original material provided by the band and offers an amazing selection from start to finish. The sometimes rudimentary though gripping tracks on the 1st side are emblematic for their early period, for example "Money" a song driven by a screeching rhythm box, distant guitar lines and a nonchalant voice. Cabaret Voltaire comes to mind. They're not afraid to experiment and to explore new horizons (the track "Lies"). The 2nd side shows a more developed darkwave sound with "In The Grassfield" and "Knowing Too Much" both produced by legendary Belgian producer Ludo Camberlin. On top of this there are 2 dark goth rock stomper hidden in the selection, they hide by the names "My Life Is A Sin" & "Eat Out Of My Hands". Overall it's a broad selection of tracks which show the capability of the band to do something different with the new wave genre. Initially the band was formed in 1983 in the Belgian city of Leuven by Danny Jacobs, Dirk Van Regenmortel, Chris Serré, Frank De Wit and Rudy Stuyckens. In 1983 they released 2 tracks on the Mask Live LP together with Front 242. In the 3 following years many of their home recorded tracks were published on a bunch of cassette labels. Since the beginning of the 21st century, many Palais Des Bauzards tracks can be found on playlists around Europe and the USA and are being reissued on LPs. Most recently on the compilation albums 'Underground Wave Vol. 4' and 'Distant Waves'. Limited edition of 500 copies

pmtx005 / 12"

The art of minimalism and reduction is one of the challenging difficulties in music making. Only a select group of artists pulled it off to create strong timeless minimal pieces that are still relevant in todays music environment. Think Jeff Mills, Rob Hood, Terrence Dixon, Daniel Bell, Ectomorph, BC, Mika Vainio... to just name a few. The art of reduction is like fine Italian food; Good basics and limited ingredients. Seasoning is mostly used to cover up bad taste. Pamétex is one of those cats that made music without the 'seasoning' of todays techniques. In the surprisingly short productive period (around 2000 when he co-produced with I-f in the Murdercapital heydays), he just wrote a bunch of tracks on a rhythm box, synth and a sequencer recorded straight to tape. What came out is now known in inner circles as highlights from electro's 2nd wave. Respected and favourited by lots of artists and serious music collectors. Here are the last pieces of the puzzle. Lost tracks from the dusty PMTX vaults. Recovered from the original tapes by Chris Callahan. Minimalism from a true musical mastermind !

the golden years

Artist : Parade Ground

Label : Dark Entries

the golden years / LP

Parade Ground has always been the duo of brothers Jean-Marc and Pierre Pauly from Brussels formed in 1981. Taking cues from post-punk, coldwave, dada and surrealism, Parade Ground channeled suffering, tension and rage through pulsing synthesizers, skeletal guitar, severe bass and Jean-Marc’s expressive vocals as the most melodic and emotional instrument. 'The Golden Years' is an 11-song, career-spanning collection of Parade Ground’s long out-of-print 7" and 12" singles as well as rare compilation tracks from the pioneers of emotional body music created during 1982-88. Each LP includes a 6-page press kit with lyrics, discography, photos and liner notes by Daniel B. of Front 242. The history of Belgian electronic music would not be complete without this gem. TOP !!!

the 15th floor

Artist : Parade Ground

Label : Minimal Maximal

the 15th floor / LP

'The 15th Floor' dates back to 1989, there is a pervasive sense of nostalgia when listening to this album. It is very much a product of its time as each synth and drum machine patch sounds rather dated, the production of the guitars, bass, and vocals having a primitively subdued quality quintessential to the tools and techniques of the period. Not that this in any way hinders the appeal of the album, which surely stands up next to such classic gems as Nine Inch Nails' 'Pretty Hate Machine' or Front Line Assembly's 'Gashed Senses & Crossfire', with just enough melody and rock texture that recalls the likes of New Order's 'Technique'. While 'The 15th Floor' may not necessarily hold up to today's standards of production and sound quality, it is at least an enjoyable listen and a pleasant trip down EBM memory lane..

cardiocleptomanie / LP

Belgian pop trio, best known for their participation in the 1983 Eurovision song contest. The group was formed in 1982 by Walter Verdin joined by Hilde Van Roy and Dett Peyskens. They released 2 LP's and several singles along with some incredible video work produced by Verdin himself. Stylistically, their music is a bit post-punk and completely new-wave with vocals reminiscent of the indie girl bands of the late 70's and early 80's. The slower tracks are quite dreamy, repetitive and hypnotic. The title track "Cardiocleptomanie" has been described as "a 'less is more' sum composed of drum machine, wood blocks and bongos, a few tasty minimal synth lines, and an overlay of repetitive female vocals that touch a Krafwerkian harmonic nerve". The 'Cardiocleptomanie' LP gathers the best of Pas De Deux's newly remastered studio recordings and presents them as an edition of 999 hand-numbered copies on 180gram blue vinyl. The record is housed in a printed inner jacket and spot color printed outer jacket with band photo and song credits. Essential !!

These tracks are now available again on Anna Logue Records' 1st 12" ever, remastered by Marc Senasac and with an addition of 2 beautiful and and previously unreleased 1983 tracks "Lying Next To You" and "Fighting Alone" which feature Siobhan Maher on backing vocals. school daze / 2x12"

Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem have teamed up to release the gay porn soundtrack work of San Francisco-based musician and producer, Patrick Cowley. Perhaps one of the most revolutionary and influential people in the cannon of disco music, Cowley created his own brand of hi-nrg dance music coined the San Francisco sound. Born in Buffalo, NY on october 19, 1950, Patrick moved to San Francisco at the age of 21. He studied at the City College of San Francisco where he founded the Electronic Music Lab. During this time Patrick would create radio jingles and electronic pieces using the school's equipment, 1st a Putney, then an E-MU System and finally a Serge synthesizer. He would make experimental instrumental songs by blending various types of music and adapting them to the synthesizer. By the mid-70's, Patrick's synthesizer skills landed him a job composing and producing songs for disco superstar Sylvester such as "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)", "Dance Disco Heat" and "Stars". This helped Patrick obtain more work as a remixer and producer. Of particular note was his 18-minute long remix of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" and production work with edgy new-wave band Indoor Life. By 1981 Patrick released a string of dance 12″ singles, like "Menergy" and "Megatron Man", creating the soundtrack for a generation. Also that year, he founded Megatone Records and released his debut album. Around this time Patrick was hospitalized and diagnosed with a then-unknown illness: that would later be called AIDS. Prior to his passing on november 12, 1982, he recorded 2 more hi-nrg hits, "Do You Wanna Funk" for Sylvester and "Right On Target" for Paul Parker. In 1981 Patrick was contacted by John Coletti, owner of famed gay porn company Fox Studio in Los Angeles. John had heard about Patrick's music from the legendary Sylvester and proposed he write music for his films. Patrick jumped on this offer and sent reels of his college compositions from the 70's to John in LA. Coletti then used a variable speed oscillator to adjust the pitch and speed of Patrick's songs in-sync with the film scene. 'School Daze' is a collection of Cowley's instrumental songs recorded between 1973 and 1981 found in the Fox Studio vaults. Influenced by Tomita, Wendy Carlos and Giorgio Moroder, Patrick forged an electronic sound from his collection of synthesizers, modified guitars and self-constructed equipment. The listener enters a world of dark forbidden vices, introspective and reflective of Patrick's time spent in the bathhouses of San Francisco. The songs on 'School Daze' range from sparse proto-techno to high octane funk to somber post-punk to musique concrete, revealing the depth of Cowley's unique talent. Featuring over 80 minutes of music, this compilation contains soundtrack music from 2 Fox Studio films, 'Muscle Up' and 'School Daze', never before released on vinyl. The tapes were restored and transferred using the same speed and pitch settings. The vinyl comes housed in a glossy dual pocket gatefold featuring classic gay porn imagery from the Fox Studio vaults plus an essay from Indoor Life vocalist, Jorge Soccarras. For Patrick's 63rd birthday, Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem present a glimpse into the instrumental world of a young genius. These recordings shine a new light on the experimental side of a disco legend who was taken too soon..

muscle up

Artist : Patrick Cowley

Label : Dark Entries

muscle up / 2x12"

Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem Records have teamed up again to release another volume of gay porn soundtracks by San Francisco-based musician and producer, Patrick Cowley. Perhaps one of the most revolutionary and influential people in the canon of disco music, Cowley created his own brand of hi-nrg dance music, 'the San Francisco sound'. Born in Buffalo, NY on october 19, 1950, Patrick moved to San Francisco at the age of 21. He studied at the City College of San Francisco where he founded the Electronic Music Lab. During this time, Patrick, along with his classmates Maurice Tani and Art Adcock, would create radio jingles and electronic pieces using the school's equipment: 1st a Putney, then an E-MU System, and finally a Serge synthesizer. He would make experimental soundtracks by blending various types of music and adapting them to the synthesizer. By the mid-70's, Patrick's synthesizer skills landed him a job composing and producing songs for disco superstar Sylvester, including hits like "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)", "Dance Disco Heat" and "Stars". This helped Patrick obtain more work as a remixer and producer. His 18-minute long remix of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" and his production work with edgy new-wave band Indoor Life were both of particular note. By 1981, Patrick had released a string of dance 12" singles, like "Menergy" and "Megatron Man". He also had founded Megatone Records and released his debut album, 'Menergy'. Around this time Patrick was hospitalized and diagnosed with a then-unknown illness: that which would later be called AIDS. Throughout 1982, he recorded 2 more hi-nrg hits, "Do You Wanna Funk" for Sylvester, and "Right On Target" for Paul Parker, as well as a 2nd solo album 'Mind Warp'. On November 12, 1982, he passed away. In 1979 Patrick was contacted by John Coletti, owner of famed gay porn company Fox Studio in Los Angeles. Patrick jumped on this offer and sent reels of his college compositions from the 70's to John in LA. Coletti then used a variable speed oscillator to adjust the pitch and speed of Patrick's songs in-sync with the film scene. 'Muscle Up' is a collection of Cowley's instrumental songs recorded between 1973 & 1980 found in the Fox Studio vaults. This compilation also includes bonus compositions found in the basement of Megatone Records owner John Hedges and the attic of former bandmate Maurice Tani. Influenced by Tomita, Wendy Carlos, and Giorgio Moroder, Patrick crafted an electronic sound from his collection of synthesizers, percussion, modified guitars, and hand-built equipment. The listener enters a world of forbidden vices evocative of Patrick's time spent in the bathhouses of San Francisco. The songs on 'Muscle Up' are divided into 4 sides, each showcasing a different facet of Cowley's work. Side 1 opens with an ambient journey through the Amazon. Tension builds on side 2, with the instrumental demo version of the slow-chugging masterpiece "I Need Somebody To Love Tonight". On sides 3 & 4 things go interstellar with ecstatic space-funk and galactic workouts. Featuring 75 minutes of music, this compilation contains soundtrack music from 2 Fox Studio films, 'Muscle Up' & 'School Daze', plus additional songs from the same era, never before released on vinyl. The tapes were restored and transferred using the same speed and pitch settings. The vinyl comes housed in a extra wide spine jacket and giant fold-out poster featuring a handmade collage using photography and xerox graphics of classic gay porn imagery from the Fox Studio vaults by Berlin-based artist Gwenael Rattke with an essay from Maurice Tani. For Patrick's 65th birthday, Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem Records present a glimpse into the futuristic world of a young genius. These recordings shine a new light on the experimental side of a disco legend who was taken too soon.

kickin' in / 12"

Unreleased disco 12" by San Francisco-based musician and producer, Patrick Cowley. Perhaps one of the most revolutionary and influential people in the canon of disco music, Cowley created his own brand of hi-nrg dance music, 'The San Francisco Sound'. During the 70's, Patrick was the lighting technician at The City disco in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood. This was SF's largest Gay entertainment complex, where everyone from Grace Jones to Sylvester would perform. Frank Loverde was performing there with his band Loverde when Patrick asked if the band would like to do backups on some songs he'd been working on. Frank, Linda Imperial and Timmy went to Patrick's studio and laid down vocals for songs, most of which were never released and remained buried in the Megatone vaults. In 2007 Honey Soundsystem was contacted by the former owner of Megatone Records John Hedges. Hedges' was moving to Palm Springs and invited us over to his basement to collect over 2,000 records from his collection. Among the archives we noticed 3 moldy boxes of quarter inch reel to reel tapes. Included was the final mixed down reel for "Kickin' In", an epic 12-minute journey through disco, that Patrick recorded with Loverde in 1978. From the 2 minute plus drum solo that builds up to the introduction of a bouncing arpeggiated Prophet IV and the harmonized vocals, all transport the listener to another realm. The song encapsulates the hi-nrg dance music that Patrick became known for. It was an 'up' sound for the gay disco scene, music that would compliment and sometimes enhance all night dancing. On the flip are 2 earlier songs produced between 1975-77 featuring basslines by college classmate and studio mate Maurice Tani. Both songs feature Patrick narrating erotic gay sex fantasies inspired by San Francisco's leather bars, back rooms and bathhouses. These songs show the sleazy side of Cowley's slow burning, oozing electronic creations with layers and layers of synthesizer, guitar, drum machine and vocoder. Each 12" comes housed in our custom Honey Soundsystem die-cut jacket featuring an illustration of the San Francisco skyline. Also included is a 8" square postcard of the original "Kickin' In" reel to reel box with Patrick's handwriting on the front and lyrics on the back.

Artist : Patrick Cowley & Jorge Socarras

Label : Dark Entries

catholic / 2x12"

'Catholic', the lost opus of disco pioneer Patrick Cowley & Indoor Life vocalist Jorge Socarras. He studied at the City College of San Francisco and met Jorge Socarras in 1973 through mutual friends. The duo's 1st collaboration was a ten-minute trance-inducing epic that Cowley composed for a performance piece by Socarras in 1975. Patrick, who played drums, guitar and keyboards, provided the perfect match for Jorge's vocal talents. Between 1975 and 1977 they recorded an album's worth of material before Socarras moved to London and Cowley started playing synthesizers for Sylvester. Upon Jorge's return to San Francisco in 1979, the duo would re-record some of the 'Catholic' songs with Patrick's newly acquired equipment. Meanwhile, Socarras met the musicians with whom he would form Indoor Life, and in 1980 Patrick co-produced their 1st album. The 'Catholic' album was offered to San Francisco's Megatone Records who passed on it. Fast forward to 2007 when Honey Soundsystem was contacted by John Hedges, former co-owner of Megatone Records. Hedges' was moving to Palm Springs and invited the crew over to his basement to collect over 2000 records from his collection. Among the archives were three moldy boxes of quarter inch reel to reel tapes featuring unreleased music by Cowley, including the 'Catholic' material. The reel was passed on to Stefan Goldmann of Macro Recordings in Berlin who was able to track down Jorge Socarras and clear the rights. 'Catholic' was finally released on CD in 2009. 'Catholic' is a genre-bending concept album that ranges from minimalistic proto-techno to synth-driven post-punk, pre-dating the dance punk acts LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture by almost 30 years. It shows a much broader range than any Cowley or Socarras material available and gives a totally new perspective to one of the most inspiring eras in music history. Influenced by Tomita, Wendy Carlos, the Velvet Underground, and Roxy Music, 'Catholic' prefigures acts like Talking Heads, Units, The Human League or Chris & Cosey. Patrick forges a unique electronic sound from his collection of synthesizers, modified guitars, and self-constructed equipment while Jorge's vocals go from hypnotic to camp, singing about gay love juju and tackling classics by Donovan and Stoller & Leiber. Featuring over 80 minutes of music never before released on vinyl, this compilation contains 2 bonus tracks not featured on the CD release. The vinyl comes housed in a glossy dual pocket gatefold featuring the intended album cover from the original 'Catholic' photo shoot in 1979, and the original hand-lettering by Arch Connelly aka A. Style intended for the 1st 45rpm single. Inside the gatefold sleeve contains lyrics and an essay from Jorge Socarras. For the 32nd anniversary of Patrick's death, Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem present a glimpse into the minds of these 2 geniuses. These recordings shine a new light on the experimental side of a disco legend who was taken too soon..

a / b

Artist : Patronen

Label : Fundamental Records

a / b / 2x12"

A genuinely unique project. Fundamental's Alek Stark created this highly limited and beautifully presented project via his love for Cygnus. This led to Biosoft Records which led to the discovery of Patronen, a man who made 2 album's worth of material (and probably more) on analogue machines in the early 90's and refuses to move from shadows. Twin Paradox celebrates this prolific, formative work across 2 albums. With the classic electro angularities and epic synthetic cosmicity are very much of their time, there's an overwhelming sense of timelessness and relevance to the project too. We reckon if you listen to cuts such as the poignant, reflective "Abstand" or the distorted, shuffling phrases and positive harmonics of "Karlsruhe Nach Basel" in 20 years time, they'll still sound just as icy and futuristic. With only 100 printed, this will sell out very quickly..

Stunning electro 4-tracker by Paul Blackford, a name you can trust when it's about real electro ;)

stations / absorptions

Artist : Paul Chambers

Label : Anna Logue Records

stations / absorptions / LP+CD

'Stations/Absorptions' is a comprehensive LP+CD set by Paul Chambers hailing from the UK and being known for his contribution of the 2 stunning tracks "Steering Solo" & "Take A Ticket" to the 'The Apprentices Dance' LP compilation from 1981 (on US Sounds Interesting Records label). Paul Chambers was truly a pioneer of dark minimal electronic music, starting to record already in 1978! It's nothing but pure analogue synthesizer bliss with lots of emotional undertones and the pure honesty of an independent diy artist. The Lp 'Stations' comprises 12 tracks including the majority of his rare vocal tracks (thus also including "Steering Solo" & "Take A Ticket"), recorded between 1979 and 1983, which mark milestones of the minimal electro wave genre while not knowing any boundaries. The CD "Absorptions" comprises instrumental and more experimental tracks recorded between 1978 & 1981, which can easily be lined up with the recordings especially by Chris Carter/Throbbing Gristle and The Human League from around the same time, while Paul also acknowledges the influence of Fad Gadget, John Foxx, early Roxy Music, Brian Eno, Gary Numan, The Normal, Genocide, Cabaret Voltaire, Suicide, Chrome, Cluster, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Thomas Leer and Robert Rental. Limited to 500 copies !!

19 (extended version)

Artist : Paul Hardcastle

Label : Chrysalis

19 (extended version) / 12"

Another classic 80's electro anthem by Paul Hardcastle released in 1985. This artist enjoyed success on the underground dance scene in the early 80s before breaking into the mainstream with "19", an international smash which spent five weeks at number one in the UK. Superb evolutive electro break which alternates between sweety synth notes and more threatening bass lines in the vein of Cybotron. The lyrics oh this song which are also those of the movie denounces the average age of the U.S. soldiers during the war of Vietnam which was 19. "Dolores" and "Fly By Night" are more slow and cheezy electro synth pop tracks. Strong Release !!!

Artist : Paul Nelson

Label : Medical Records LLC

vortex / LP

1st reissue originating from the Pacific Northwest region of the USA in association with 2510 Records in Portland. MR-024 is the one and only release by Portland's Paul Nelson. 'Vortex' was released in 1981 on Paul's own Optiman Systems Inc imprint. Paul grew up around Portland and had a strong background in music and music theory. He built a PAIA synthesizer when he in junior high and developed a keen intuition into analog synthesis. Eventually he purchased a MiniMoog and was very influenced by Alan Parsons, ELP, and ENO. Armed with more gear as time went on, Paul was offered an opportunity to record his own album which led to the Recording Associates sessions during which 'Vortex' was born. The LP was also half-speed mastered at JVC Studios in CA. 1000 copies were originally pressed and self-distributed by Paul. The opening track "Automated Man" which also happens to be the only track with vocals, is a slab of genuine electro greatness with it's sharp synth hooks and vocoded vocals. The LP takes many twists and turns with many tracks of sequenced pulsations, electronic drums, and rhythms reminiscent of the sci-fi soundtracks mixed with a healthy dose of almost proggy space/cosmic disco crossed with later-age Tangerine Dream. "Vortex 2" is a perfect example of the above description with imagery of a Blade Runneresque chase scene meets Carpenter at his most upbeat. "Labyrinth" takes more a more relaxed synth odyssey approach with slower percussion and a spacier vibe overall. The rest of side 2 "Vortex 3-4-5" is a magnificent build up of ambient soundscapes that morph into a slow cosmic burner and fades out again into the darkness to close the LP. All tracks have been restored and remastered by Paul Nelson for this release. For many years this LP could be found in the PNW in record bins but over the last decade, it has been become quite rare which has led to it fetching rather high prices on the collector's market. For fans of library synth, sci-fi soundtracks, and other more sequenced electronic acts such as Tangerine Dream, Axxess, and minimal synth. This reissue is presented on high-quality 180gr splatter paint on opaque white vinyl. Features exact reproduction of the front and infamous back covers. Contains bonus insert with in-depth interview with Paul Nelson by Else Teicher. Limited edition.

Artist : Pauli Jylhankangas

Label : Klakson

clutz / 12"

The latest weapon from Dexter’s Klaxon imprint comes from the impossibly named Pauli Jylhankangas. 5 trax of strange retro electro disco cuts, ranging from the funked analogue of "Lie Low" with its squelchy acidic synths that funk around the beats creating a vintage feel while 70’s synths play a feelgood melody over the top. Another cut to check is the lazy 4/4 of "Turbo Fever" which offers an easy going and quite light melody over 80’s disco-fied drums, definitely not the Klaxon of Dexter and Fastgraph style, more a trip back to more innocent days of dance music. Check it boy !!

adieu staccato

Artist : Peine Perdue

Label : F.K.K. Musik

adieu staccato / LP

Debut release for this French / German project and a classic F.K.K.-Musik / Kernkrach record in many ways.. This is minimal-synth / electro-pop as it should sound; nothing new or shocking but delivered very well. 6 great songs with that nice typical French new-wave touch. You got to love this!

Artist : Peine Perdue

Label : Medical Records LLC

disparitions / LP

Medical Records returns to France (by way of Berlin) to present the 1st full length vinyl LP by contemporary artist Peine Perdue. Peine Perdue was born in 2010 from the meeting of Berlin-based artist and musician Stephane Argillet and Coco Gallo. Peine Perdue finds its inspiration in a certain geometry, poetry and clearness in music and art such displayed by the cold abstractions of XVIIIth century harpsichordists (Couperin, Pancrace Royer etc) to the graceful minimalism of Erik Satie, the sugar uncluttered pop of the 60's yéyé and finally to the arithmetic synth-pop of the early 80's. Among the artists and personalities that emulate their creativity are, among others, Delphine Seyrig, ESG, Elli & Jacno, Anna Akhmatova, William Onyeabor, Luisa Casati, André Cadere, Rainer Fassbinder or Robert Bresson. Construction, vertigo and symmetry with sensitivity but without sentimentality. Integrating the above references into a delicate mix with very personal and cinematic sensibility led by the obsessive sensuality of Coco's voice. Previous releases have included a cassette on Vocoder Tapes in 2012 followed by a 6 track vinyl EP on Kernkrach Records (Germany). Their 1st full length was a CDR in 2014 on Cold Beats Records. They have toured extensively as well in Europe in between recording sessions. The material on this LP is comprised of all new material written in late 2014. Despite it's articulate minimalism, the tracks are very compulsive and lend themselves seamlessly to the dancefloor as well as to the soundtrack to a dark late night rendezvous. Coco's vocals synergistically complements the fragile and perfect synth lines and beats. Standout tracks include "Surprise Partie", "Noyes" and "Cerceaux" though the entire record flows beautifully from track to track. This record will appeal to fans of the aforementioned legendary French synth pop acts and the like. Mastered by Martin Bowes at the Cage Studios, UK. Presented on high-quality 180gr heavyweight blue vinyl. Limited edition.

years of struggle against the lies, the stupidity and the cowardice

Artist : Pesteg Dred

Label : Dark Entries

years of struggle against the lies, the stupidity and the cowardice / LP

29-year old lost album now available for the first time on vinyl. "Years Of Struggle Against The Lies, The Stupidity And The Cowardice" was written, recorded and produced by a trio of Danish 18-year olds during a weekend in December 1981. Unable to pay for the recording session, the master tapes were confiscated and the album remained unreleased until the summer of 1985 where it was issued as a bonus cassette with the Danish art magazine Atlas. This is the 1st and only album from Pesteg Dred. The band combines dark rumbling basslines with austere guitar shrieks and the occasional cello/violin/autoharp to create the perfect tension of soft/loud synthesized post-punk. But what steals the spotlight of Martin Hall’s well-crafted production are the dynamic vocals of Inge Shannon who ranges from cold Teutonic monotone to shrill cacophony at times bringing to mind Nico, new romantic chanteuse Ronny or Simona Buja from Kirlian Camera. This landmark album could have fit perfectly on the 4AD or Factory Records roster alongside A Certain Ratio, Bauhaus or Joy Division. All tracks have been remastered from the original master tapes and include a printed interview with Martin Hall as well as a silk-screened image of the original reel to reel master tape. Limited to 500 hand-numbered copies, so grab one while you can...

walking in the neon

Artist : Peter Richard

Label : Dark Entries

walking in the neon / 12"

30th anniversary of the italo-disco club hit "Walking In The Neon". Peter Richard was the alias 1st adopted in 1979 by producer and vocalist Walter Beinat. His best known song was "Walking In The Neon", released as a maxi-single on Italian label Good Vibes in 1985. For this single Richard teamed up with the production duo of Gigi Farina and Franco Rago, best known for their projects Lectric Workers, Decadance, Expansives, and Wanexa. "Walking In The Neon" was written by Rago & Farina with help from Chuck Rolando, member of Italian disco group Passengers. The track's arrangement was done by Italian disco pioneer Celso Valli who wrote club classics for Macho, Azoto, Passengers and Tantra, to name a few. On the A-side is the 'Club' version, an uptempo classic that sounds like a dream encounter between mid-80's New Order and hi-NRG legends Patrick Cowley and Bobby Orlando. Clocking in at nearly 9 minutes, it is purely dancefloor oriented on an epic scale, with evolving hooks and melodies. The B-side features a shorter 'Dub' version with extended breaks and bass lines. Pressed on neon orange vinyl, as it was when originally released in 1985. Tip !

Label : Kernkrach

captain berlin / 12"

This 12” is the 80's soundtrack for a short Super 8 format film by Jörg Buttgereit. There are 3 versions of the same song, entitled "Captain Berlin". The original version (1982) is a nice piece of pulsating minimalism and will attract a good crowd on the dancefloor. There is also a live version (1984), which is a little harsher and more monotonous, somewhat like early DAF. The B-side is filled with a twelve minutes long remix from 1983. Captain Berlin is a nice cult piece like you can expect from Kernkrach, limited to 500 copies !

the eepp

Artist : Phantom Forth

Label : Dark Entries

the eepp / LP

Phantom Forth were the brother sister-in-law team of Paul Luker (guitar, bass, vocals), Debbie Luker (drums, guitar, vocals) and Lorraine Steele (keyboards, percussion, vocals). They formed in 1981 in Auckland, New Zealand. Early 1980, Paul had just returned from a nationwide poetry reading tour and bought a bass guitar. He would practice as his brother's house and Debbie suggested they form a band. Lorraine joined soon after. With a shared love of Young Marble Giants, Wire and Cabaret Voltaire they started to rehearse at LAB Studio. 'The EEPP' was recorded in 1983 within a few weeks at Progressive Music Studios. Slated for release in February 1984, the mini-album finally appeared in november on Flying Nun Records. It contained seven moody sketches of Auckland. Their sound blends cold wave guitars, drum-machine propelled post-punk with female vocals. The core recording set up was a Casiotone MT-40, Boss DR-55 Dr. Rhythm, Roland TR-606, bass, guitars and various effects pedals. Paul would EQ each string individually with the parametric, later the combination of chorus and slight delay was added. Lyrically Lorraine and Deb tackle relationships with boys turning into men, escapism, dreams, drugs and reality. Included with this reissue are 2 early demos recorded at LAB in 1982, made prior to Lorraine joining the band, plus a recording from the Flying Nun live compilation 'The Last Rumba'. The vinyl comes housed in sleeve with original artwork collage designed by Paul Lurker. Each LP includes a two-sided 8.5x11 poster with notes and photos.

Artist : Phantom Love

Label : Mannequin

untitled / 12"

Debut 12" ep from Phantom Love, a mysterious kosmische act from Southern Europe. Emerging from the majestic and fiercely sun-trapped lands of the Old Continent, Phantom Love takes you along a dazing journey through a spectral yet dreamy haze of spacey psychedelia. Drawing inspiration and guidance from the ever-revered mitt European and Mediterranean tradition of kraut and cosmic rock, Phantom Love manages to encapsulate and transcend the formulas normally associated with these genres. A retro-futuristic feast for the ears, a production that is equally analogue and digital, haunting and exotic, Phantom Love's debut is a sonic sculpture of obsessive arpeggios and reverb-drenched strings. Against this arcane melodic canvas, tribal and shape-shifting drums structures fight and discipline the liquid interplay and superimposition of cymbals and cowbells delays. Limited Edition of 300 copies with artwork by Giandomenico Carpentieri. Strongly recommended to fans of Brian Eno, Klaus Schulze, John Carpenter, Carter Tutti, Stellar Om Source, Harald Grosskopf, Tangerine Dream, Beak, Zombie Zombie..

rive gauche

Artist : Philippe Chany

Label : Dark Entries

rive gauche / LP

Philippe Chany is a French songwriter, film music composer and producer from the town of Gap in the southeastern region of the Hautes-Alpes. He formed Love International with Philippe Krootchey and Fred Versailles in 1981 and released the #1 boogie disco hit single "Dance On The Groove (And Do The Funk)". The B-side of this single featured a cover of Dave Brubeck's "Unsquare Dance" released as a single in late 1981 credited solely to Chany. In 1983 Philippe went into Studio O.M. to record songs for his solo project. The album titled 'Rive Gauche' was released in 1983 by Polydor Records. Philippe was inspired by experimental film composers Michel Magne, Ennio Morricone, Lalo Schifrin. Songs are a fusion of Chanson synth-pop, experimental italo funk, majestic balearic disco and arabesque instrumentals. He enjoyed making blends, combining rhythms with scratches, utilizing a Roland TR-808, Jupiter 8 and various Akai samplers. All the songs are recited in French and English and revolve around themes of love and mysticism plus a passage read from Antonin Artaud's 1925 poem 'L'Ombilic Des Limbes'. Housed in an exact replica of the original jacket, which features a photo of Philippe by Jean-Baptiste Mondino on the front and a painting of him by Nadia Back on the back. Each copy includes a 11x11 insert with lyrics and archive photo. "Fiction talks right to your brain, Never the same…Be different!" (Philippe Chany, 1983)

Artist : Philippe Laurent

Label : Minimal Wave

hot-bip / LP

Full length Lp by French mastermind Philippe Laurent. This album is entitled 'Hot-Bip', a pseudonym Laurent used throughout the 80s and 90s and also the title of his 1983 cassette on Fraction Studio. 'Hot-Bip' features tracks recorded between 1979-1988, most of which have either remained unreleased or only previously appeared on scarce 80's experimental cassette compilations. Laurent's music can be described as spacey synth-pop, containing much depth and range. It is edgy, political and pushes the limits, transforming his sound beyond one specific genre. Hints of classical influences as well as electro influences can be heard. 'Hot-Bip' showcases Laurent's best musical output from the 80's and includes some very avant-garde pieces from as early as 1979. A limited edition of 999 hand-numbered copies, this LP is pressed on 180 gram, translucent red vinyl and housed in a black and white matte printed heavyweight sleeve. Tip..!

Reissue from the French electronic wizard, Philipppe Laurent alias Hot Bip. Media artist Philippe Laurent is a pioneer of electronic music, a French Kraftwerk who recently stepped into the limelight thanks to Minimal Wave's re-issue of his music. He now grants us with an album in the same vein. As indicated in the title, the tracks were gathered from rare tapes released between 1980 and 1985. You will find here all that makes the charm of his music: ethereal synthetic tunes, syncopated rhythm boxes, minimal but lively TB303 basslines that sound poetically futuristic and herald techno music, acid and IDM. Vinyl edition limited to 500 copies.

mithra / 12"

While a newcomer to the label, Laurent is an established multi-media artist well-known for his work in fields ranging from plastic arts and music to graphic and digital codes. He has been active in the electronic music scene for decades, first emerging from the French underground in the early 80's. However, in recent years, his music has been discovered by a whole new audience of appreciative listeners. This is due in large part to key reissues and new releases of Laurent's archival material, beginning with his popular 2011 full-length vinyl LP on US label Minimal Wave, which was followed by releases around the globe on labels such as Electric Voice, Girouette and Serendip. While Laurent historically has executed much of his musical production under the pseudonym Hot-Bip (a name also used as the title of a 1983 cassette release), the 'Mithra' ep is presented instead under his given name. The 4-song release, which is comprised entirely of new material from the present day, includes 2 different versions of the title track as well as 2 versions of "La Tentation De Saint Antoine". Defying genre-specific categorization, these songs incorporate influences from techno, electro and synth-pop while sounding starkly contemporary and capturing a beautiful subtlety of sound. Philippe's general approach to art is one of research, specifically in addressing perception of signs and symbols. In conjunction with this research, he has always remained open to new technologies, whether composing musical works or creating graphic designs. This tendency is on full display in the 'Mithra' ep, where complex electronic sound design creates a densely synthesized backdrop for hard-hitting, dancefloor-friendly beats. All of this is accompanied by unusual vocal additions (both human and otherworldly) that range from ethereal whispers to robotic, Kraftwerk-styled enunciations. With the 'Mithra' ep, Philippe Laurent has created resolutely original electronic music for modern times. Indeed, the ep reveals an artist with an incredible history working at the height of his impressive skills. Limited edition of 500 copies on grey solid-colored vinyl, with a sleeve designed by Laurent himself & Oleg Galay.

Label : Peripheral Minimal

phoenix / 12"

New 12" by the French electronic pioneer Philippe Laurent entitled 'Phoenix'. A 3-track ep featuring 2 brand new tracks on A-side "Phoenix" and "Agapao". Meanwhile over on B-side, we have the 13-minute electronic opus and highly representative of his early work "Exposition 4", a never before released track from Philippe's extensive archive, and recorded in 1982. The ep is representative of Philippe's latest forays into contemporary synth music, but still with a retro futurist edge and influenced partly by German pioneers Kraftwerk / late 70's kosmische and electro / synthwave acts, fitting into the current enthusiasm for early 80's synth pop and minimal wave. The ep is presented on white vinyl and limited to 300 copies.

considérations inactuelles

Artist : Philippe Laurent / Airworld

Label : Schwerkraft Records

considérations inactuelles / LP

This album is a tribute to the world of Richard Pinhas / Heldon with 2 distinct visions. Performed by Philippe Laurent, one of the pioneers of electronic music in France since the late 70's, the 1st side is a long piece of deep and ambient techno, while Airworld, on the 2nd side, fly over larger territories between krautrock, repetitive electronic and ambient landscape. Enter the tale, and fly in these desert parts.

Artist : Philippe Laurent / HNN

Label : Electric Voice Records

split / 12"

Multi-media artist Philippe Laurent, well known for his 'Hot-Bip' project excavated by Minimal Wave in 2011, is paired with contemporary minimal electronic mastermind HNN on this maxi 12" split single. Laurent's side was originally released in 1982 on the rare K7 Kunstaustellung which has seen a meticulous remaster from our mastering house Polyphasic Studios. "Exposition 1" translates Laurent's precision with his design work into a symmetrical and well balanced sound for his time. Another French composer, Gregg Anthe, is featured on the flip side with a collaboration with Electric Voice artists' and friends Jeff & Jane Hudson. They offer an invaluable musical score to the politics of the world we live in. Limited to 500 copies..

exposition 3

Artist : Philippe Laurent / Xeno & Oaklander

Label : Girouette Records

exposition 3 / 12"

Girouette Records presents tracks selected from the early works of the French electronic music pioneer Philippe Laurent: "Exposition 3" & "Rapide 1", these 2 gems from 1982 are out for the very 1st time on vinyl, after being remastered from the original tapes by the talented label Minimal Wave. The major cold-wave New Yorker duet Xeno & Oaklander brings a 2nd heart to this record, with a wild and breathless cover version of "Exposition 3" taking us with a night driving analogue bass and a surgical 8 o' 8 beat to intriguing cinematographic landscapes. Limited to 500 copies on 180gr transparent vinyl..

youth and immortality

Artist : Phosphor

Label : Desire Records

youth and immortality / LP

Phosphor were formed in London in 2011, originally consisting of Nathalie Bruno on vocals and synth, Jake Ambridge on guitar, the duo then later teamed up with Hélène de Thoury who now is on synth and backing vocals. Heavily influenced by the likes of Depeche Mode, Sixth June, Fever Ray, HTRK, Linear Movement, Slowdive and Cocteau Twins, Phosphor have written and produced 3 eps in the past few years. Self releasing 'Blossom / Cold Hearted', a broody, shoe-gaze soaked ep produced by Ryan Ambridge, and 'To Never Love Again', which was self produced and reminiscent of Siouxsie & The Banshees and Cocteau Twins, and 'Fear', which was voted one of the top 20 eps of 2012 by Burning Flame. Along side the eps Phosphor have also produced 2 slow and haunting singles, "Numb" and "Influx". Their debut album 'Youth And Immortality', released by Desire, was inspired by the confusion and desolation of living in the city, constant battles with the troubled mind and an obsession with beautifully dark sounding music. Creating a bitter, melancholy atmosphere whilst morphing menacing synths into something of great pop beauty.. 2nd pressing on black vinyl and download coupon. Big Tip !!

star gazing

Artist : Pixelated Vision

att lämna allt för inget / LP

Dödsdans Rekords present the debut vinyl of Planet. After a secret gig at Kollaps Records early in 2014, where the debut cassette quickly sold out, there has been a lot of talk about this magical minimal synth-pop outfit. Now the vinyl is ready gathering 7 new tracks into a real killer album. Limited edition of 250 copies.

I didn't know I loved you (till I saw you rock & roll)

Artist : Planet Patrol

Label : Electro Nation

I didn't know I loved you (till I saw you rock & roll) / 12"

Produced and organized by early hip-hop impresarios Arthur Baker and John Robie, Planet Patrol walked an intriguing line between electro and the classic Motown sound. The quintet of vocalists (led by Herb Jackson) only produced few tracks, but this one belongs to the few classic anthem of the oldschool electro-funk era.

the end

Artist : Plastic Dolls

Label : Eirkti

the end / 2x7"

Talking about artfully existent sound-labyrinths within restlessly, inspired artistic minds. Inspired artistic minds which based on their deviation, properly exemplify the ambience of an era that was once under progress. Inspired minds that via their work leave an imprinted mark of a musical scene that was once under-formulation while it has long been established now. Plastic Dolls stood for one of those musical minds. They formed a discreetly significant group that substantially contributed to the Greek 80's underground new-wave sound. The original 7" single was released in 1984 through their own Violent Crime Records label; Plastic Dolls were an important act with a strong live appearance. Beautiful moments of an intense youth, when inspiration frequently occurred during a live show when the band played absolutely songs never to be re-performed and ultimately recorded. Fortunately for all music aficionados out there, apart from the new romantic electronic track "Don't Forget Me" and the intense dark wave song titled "The End" (both songs included in the foregoing sole release of the group and which re-appear in the present edition), there were additional musical syntheses included in a long-forgotten tape that was recorded almost 3 decades ago. "Feel Me Now" and "It's Just A Romantic Sound", 2 clearly straightforward new-wave romantic songs, suddenly see the light of day and reveal the direction to which the group was headed before it finally disbanded. 2 additional unreleased tracks which we hope that you'll enjoy as much as we do. Comes in a strong gatefold cover and in 500 hand-written copies. WTF** !!

red movies

Artist : Play

Label : Medical Records LLC

red movies / LP

Singles collection by UK's Play as the 2nd in a series of crucial reissues from the Survival Records imprint. Play was made up of Wayne Kennedy & David Rome, and all of their output was released on Survival (home to Drinking Electricity, Hard Corps, and Richard Bone). David Rome previously had worked with the recently passed Martin Lloyd in the group Analysis (later evolved into Oppenheimer Analysis) as well as was the founding member of Drinking Electricity along with Anne-Marie Heighway. Play released 3 singles between 1982-1984, and a compilation LP 'Red Movies' in 1985 (which compiled a majority of the singles but not all). All of these singles are now out of print and collectable. The Medical Records reissue of 'Red Movies' is complete with 2 extra tracks not featured on the 1985 compilation LP including 3 remixes. Play can be best described as perfect moody synth-pop. The songs exude excellent synth work by both members as well as the sprinkled in jagged/angular guitar work by David Rome (so well illustrated on the Drinking Electricity output) reminiscent of UK post-punk. The songs also tend to lean towards new romantic at times but are more sparse yet dynamic. The LP features preserved original front cover art (of the UK version as the Japanese version was slightly different). Back cover art is slightly modified to include updated credits and additional photos of Wayne Kennedy. Pressed on high quality 180gr 'half & half' colored vinyl (blue and red) in a limited edition. Pffffeeewww!

Artist : Pleasure Symbols

Label : Avant!

untitled / 12"

Pleasure Symbols from Brisbane, Australia is the post punk/synth duo project of Phoebe Paradise & Jasmine Dunn. Desolate but not devoid, Pleasure Symbols engulf honest pop music under a sea of slowed, cold synth and bass. Ritualistic vocals perpetually conveying a sense of desperation, but not without fortitude, the bands unembellished restraint continually on show. This self-titled 4-song debut 12" ep is limited to 500 copies !

Artist : Plexiglas

Label : Hertz-Schrittmacher

untitled / 7"

3 crazy minimal analogue songs by this obscure 80's German trios. The highlight goes to "Tanz!" wich is simply a hit ! Extremely strong, dancable, modern and at the same time minimalistic. Superb !

februari - april '81

Artist : Plus Instruments

Label : Poutre Apparente

februari - april '81 / LP

What an amazing album this is ! Plus Instruments on this debut LP from 1981 is Truus de Groot from Holland with the drummer from Rhys Chatman's band and Lee Ranaldo, who played in the ensemble of Glenn Branca back then and a little later joined Sonic Youth. Musically this is minimal music but turned pop without loosing the edgy side of things. Maybe the missing link between Silver Apples and DAF ? True Classic!!

world invaders

Artist : Pluton & Humanoids

Label : Private Records

world invaders / 12"

One of the highlights in electronic disco! Produced by 2 Canadians (Michel Bibeau & P. Perpall) back in 1981 this record sounds still fresh as 30 years ago! Unfortunately the repress is only a small batch of 372 copies, and its not sure if we'll ever gonna get a repress. Be fast ;)

pity for the self or we'll teach you to dance

Artist : Poésie Noire

Label : Antler Records

pity for the self or we'll teach you to dance / 12"

Controversial electro-wave band of the 80's. One of Belgiums most disputed groups, who are characterized by a huge productivity and a constant urge for change. Their intellectualist "wave" music (how else could you describe a group who names their Best Of "Existential Despair, Metaphysical Distress, Onthological Ungludation and Cosmic Meltdown") ensured them a small but stable following. Later on they evolved into more electronic and dance-oriented music, influenced by the underground success of the pioneer-band Front 242. Nice mini-album, EBM and new-beat orientated. Take some time to listen to it ;)

taste of candy

Artist : Poésie Noire

Label : Antler-Subway

taste of candy / 7"

Poésie Noire was a great Belgian band. They won the Belgian rock contest Breekend in 1985. In the next year the group played support to Dead Can Dance and the Sisters of Mercy and also a lot of gigs on their own. From that point the saga continued... Originally the Poésie Noire had 7 members, but soon there were only 3, Johan Casters, Marianne Valvekens & Herman Gillis. On this 7", the band delivered us an imaginative stroll through cinematic music, where the keyboards gently peck at you and the rhythm flutters its eyelids...

she's an image

Artist : Poème Electronique

Label : Attractive!

she's an image / 7"

Poème Electronique is Dave Hewson (synthesisers, production), Sharon Abbott (lyrics, lead and backing vocals), Julie Ruler (backing vocals), formed in 1980 in South London, UK. Dave was studying music and as a rare kind of student species he had a deep fascination for new-wave and electronic music thus also playing and recording electronic music ever since the late. For this latest 7" single release on the Attractive! label, Dave has remixed "She's An Image", which was originally featured on the album, here giving it a bit more 'drive' for optimal performance on the dancefloor. Lyrics-wise Sharon depicts how it felt like being a punk girl in the early 80's and the social problems arising from just trying to be different. On the flipside we find "Rubber Dollies", a previously unreleased track from their extensive early 80's archives that deals with sleazy sex shop/toys topics and comes along as a powerful electro-pop tune with a disco touch. Limited edition of 500 solid pink vinyl. Not to be missed!

the echoes fade

Artist : Poeme Electronique

Label : Anna Logue Records

the echoes fade / 7"

This fantastic little 7" is not a mere reissue of Poème Electronique's one and only vinyl release from 1982: Anna Logue Records managed to track down the band's composer, who entirely remixed both songs, infusing them with new life and power... Neo-romantic-electronic-pop at its best. Highly recommended !
