This is the 1st time these tracks have been released on vinyl and have been remastered for this release by Martin Bowes at the Cage, UK. Contains special bonus insert with lyrics. drilling backwards

Artist : Martial Canterel

Label : OnderStroom Records

drilling backwards / LP

With the staccato surge and somber vocalizing of DAF, the distorted synthetic soundscapes of Dirk Ivens' eeriest work, and the industrial strength of The Young Gods, Martial Canterel's earliest outings are a bleak intellectual exercise in the dark and danceable. His music creates a cold atmosphere, and has an ominous melancholy feel to it. The emotional, and sometimes dark feel of the album is everything electronic new wave music should be. It's futuristic, robotic, and at the same time, nostalgic. Essential recordings by the minimal synth master of our age. Deluxe edition of 500 copies.

strange land

Artist : Martial Canterel & Tobias Bernstrup

Label : Mannequin

strange land / 7"

Played entirely live in one ago and using only vintage analogue synthesizers & sequencers, Martial Canterel & Tobias Bernstrup, 4-hands / 2-voices put our minds in another dimension, in an hypotetical night-time 'outside', where shadows and confusion are leading the way, creating simply a milestone for all the minimal electronics music lovers. A nearly forgotten collaboration dredged and now seeing the light of day !

lost and late

Artist : Martin Dupont

Label : Minimal Wave

lost and late / LP

"Lost and Late" features rare selections from one of the most legendary bands of the French new-wave. Originally from Marseille, Martin Dupont formed in 1981 and went on to release a single, a cassette, several albums, and played several live shows, supporting Siouxsie & The Banshees and The Lotus Eaters. Martin Dupont were new-wave, dreamy electro-synth, and coldwave yet completely accessible. The release, entitled "Lost and Late" brings you selected cassette tracks from the Inedits 81-83, the "Your Passion" 7" and the original version of "Just Because" as it appeared on the "Just Because" lp. A great chance to get these cult tracks at a correct price.

Artist : Martin Lloyd

Label : Minimal Wave

l'amant electronique / 7"

Minimal Wave presents us an exquisite 7" release by Martin Lloyd entitled "L'Amant Electronique". Martin is mainly known for his Oppenheimer Analysis project, yet through the years he recorded over 2 dozen tracks on his own, most of which never saw the light of day. The 4 selected tracks were recorded between 1980 and 1984 in his own "Feedback Studios" in Battersea, London. Martin Lloyd delivers vocals via the vocoder and carefully layers synth melodies which range from upbeat and danceable, to what could be the soundtrack to a 1981 post-apocalyptic science fiction film. The record is pressed on white vinyl with a heavy black jacket (spot gloss) and is limited to 999 hand-numbered copies. Very Nice ;)

Martinelli (aka Doctor's Cat), was Aldo Martinelli & Fabrizio Gatto. "Cenerentola (Cinderella)" has a strong catchy italo-disco melody that could easily burn any dancefloor. Remember us a bit their major hit "Voice (In The Night)". Classic..

Artist : Mary Goes Round

Label : Lively Art

hot shot in space / 12"

Whaoh.. Really beautiful French new-wave from 1990 released by Mary Goes Round (aka Jérôme Avril & Cécile Balladino) on the Lively Art label (sublabel of New Rose Records created by Louis Thévenon). The label had its moment of glory between 1989 & 1991 with the so-called "Touching Pop" movement and its 4 main bands : Little Nemo, Asylum Party, Mary Goes Round and later Babel 17.. Kult ;)

pretty in plastique

Artist : MAS 2008

Label : Electronic Corporation

pretty in plastique / 12"

Released in the beginning of 2005 "pretty in plastique” shows the other part of the story where MAS 2008 are really from. Early 80's avantgarde-pop. The weird "love in my eyes", the DAF like "so süss" (engl.: so sweet) and the french filmic atittuded "un film de 2" brings back the flair of a time.. Pretty cool electro-disco leaning to wave and syntpop.

Artist : MAS 2008

Mas 2008 again with their Aux88 like electrobass sound: boomin 808's, funky hooks and wide pads: 90's electrobass at it´s best. 4 track EP of proper Detroit-flavoured electro.

Back to the roots: back to the good old ebm and wave days. Six wickedly good excuses to strap on paratrooper boots and shave your head like Travis Bickle. "Blicke" crunches and churns like Legowelt, "Memories" brings the synthpop flavor ala Soviet, and "Beatin’ Faster" could easily soundtrack your next experiment with leather restraints. Our favorit release from this two german electro artists, run on it !

punished by machines

Artist : MAS 2008

Label : Mikrolux

punished by machines / 2x12"

Here is Rene Kirchner and his Mas 2008 project. Kirchner already proved himself as groundbreaking artist with his first Elektrolux album ("Decyphered Music") and this new lp "Punished By Machines" shows how much he has moved on and how consistent he has followed on his path. The 12 tracks on "Punished By Machines", produced together with his longtime production partner Ive Müller, show Kirchners deep love for analogue sounds which develop an even more emotional intensity as they are embedded in a modern production level of highest standard. Minimal old school jams with hints to 80’s pop ("U Can’t Emulate A Soul"), classic electro sounds like "World’s Passing By" or "Journey To Tomorrow" and crazy dancefloor stompers ("Wasted") make this album a milestone release in electro music. Pure Genius !

les visiteurs du soir / LP

Here is the only album of Mathématiques Modernes a french duo with Edwidge Belmore, a model and a famous Parisian nights person in '80-'81, and Claude Arto, a synthesizer artist. Jacno produced the two best tracks of this album "A+B=C" and the classic single "Disco Rough". Very precious synth-pop sounds with catchy melodies and a strong swing feeling. Cult french release from the 80's.

les visiteurs du soir

Artist : Mathematiques Modernes

Label : Medical Records LLC

les visiteurs du soir / LP

Much anticipated reissue of the seminal French synth-pop classic 'Les Visiteurs Du Soir' by Mathématiques Modernes. Released in 1981 on the famous Celluloid imprint, this masterpiece has been out of print since its initial pressing. Mathématiques Modernes was the project of keyboardist Claude Arto and vocalist/lyricist Edwige Braun-Belmore. Arto has also worked with French bands Artefact and Spions. Also, to note, the late French producer Jacno also worked on the Mathématiques Modernes record. This gem needs no introduction to the fans who have enjoyed the classics from this era. The record is a very diverse blend of new-wave, almost progressive arrangement, baroque melodies, complex rhythmic structures, and plenty of so called 'cold wave' sprinkled in. The addition of horns was not a common finding during these times and is also represented on this eclectic record. Probably the most well known track, "Disco Rough" was a single as well as was later included on the popular comp, 'So Young But So Cold, Underground French Music 1977-1983' released in 2004 on Tigersushi Records. It is staple in many Dj sets with its sassy lyrics and jagged synth hooks. The album features string arrangements which was somewhat unique to the new-wave scene. Most notably, the track "Jungle Hurt" displays the wonderful arrangements that interface well with the synth textures and percussion. The track "A+B=C" has also been featured on various Flexi-pop comps and has a quirky melody accented by xylophone. The final track on the LP is an interesting medley of various tracks on the LP with interesting transitions. This LP has become very collectable for original copies and is quite expensive. The original tape masters have been restored and remastered by Gilbert Castro of Celluloid Records. The sound quality is unparalleled. This project has been the collaboration between Mathématiques Modernes, Gilbert Castro, and Medical Records. The jacket features original reproduction artwork on the front and back. This record will surely need to make a mandatory arrival in the collections of fans of French new-wave, early synth-pop, and lovers of all things late 70's/early 80's. Presented on 180gr grey opaque high-quality vinyl in a limited edition of 1000 hand-numbered copies. Bonus insert included as well with interview of Claude Arto by Dave Segal plus other interesting tidbits.

less ness

Artist : Max + Mara

Label : Dark Entries

less ness / LP

Debut album 'Less Ness' from contemporary Bay Area duo, Max + Mara. Their collaboration began in 2012. Max is based in Oakland and has been a part of various projects most notably Brotman and Short and his current solo work as Business Etiquette. Mara is based in San Francisco and is known for her solo work as Group Rhoda. On 'Less Ness' they worked with a hardware set up: 808 and Elektron drum machine, Moog, MAM, and Sequential Circuits synth with splashes of Mono/Poly and collage elements, vocoder lines and dubbed out vocals. They step away from the the computer as much as possible and prefer that their ideas can be traced back to the tools so that a sense of physicality remains. They find inspiration from all kinds of far out sounds, most notably dub, industrial, and various drug culture tangents. Lyrically the songs revolve around topics such as escapism, looking though cultural windows, and character role development. Some songs are a bit more surrealist in content with elements of hard realism and critical commentary. Each LP is housed in a jacket featuring a painting by Shana Why. Prepare to turn your gaze to the things in front of you and away from screen generated culture and its mimicry of social participation..

the future has designed us

Artist : Max Vincent

Label : Discom

the future has designed us / LP

Belgrade's Discom inaugurates its new catalogue with a rather special debut, an anthology by forgotten Serbian artist Misa Mihajlovic (aka Max Vincent). Due to the war-torn state of Yugoslavia back in the mid 80's and through to the late 90's, Vincent's synth jams never made it out of his recording studio, and although he was known in certain circles, the then young producer was simply not able to get his music out there. Luckily, Discom have compiled material from Vincent's library that was made between 1984 & 2002, quite a large gap in time. In this album, you can hear Vincent's love for 80's electronic music and the cutting-edge of the time, bands like Kraftwerk on the opener "Ostavi Sve", the influences of EBM over tracks like "Beogradska Devojka", and plenty of synth-pop all over many corners of the album. The slow, wavy and pensive "Noc Pored Reke Nil" is also a winner. Seductive and magnificent synths, hypnotic vibes, esoteric, mysterious and balearic tunes, all of that in a dream that you will never wish to end. Very recommended ;)

Artist : Me-Kothami

Label : Sendertechnik

anjuna / 12"

The unknown but exotic-sounding Me-Kothami invites us in another excursion into electroid territory, but the emphasis here is on lush, orchestral pieces, soundscapes flowing into a crisp and crunchy beat section. The instrumentation is warm : veering more often than not towards a gentle, subtle layering of soothing analog sounds. We support this inspired label with talented artists. Check !

Artist : Medio Mutante

Label : Cititrax

inestable / 12"

Minimal Wave's sublabel Cititrax presents us the debut 12" ep by Medio Mutante. Really great electro-wave influenced by hip-hop, jazz, latin freestyle and new-wave records from Europe, America and Japan, Medio Mutante wrings a mutated blend of raw and propulsive energy from their limited analogue gear in a Los Iniciados way. 6 immaculate danceable electro tracks limited to 600 copies. According to us, the best minimal electro-wave act of the moment ;)

boom boom romance / mutant menace

Artist : Medio Mutante

Label : PDSW

boom boom romance / mutant menace / 7"

Medio Mutante (aka José Cota, Mariana Saldana and Seth Nemec) from Brooklyn (NY, USA), bringing us that typical wonderful handmade analogue electro-pop. To cut the story short : this 7” is brilliant ! “Boom Boom Romance” comes along with the Korg KR-55, beautiful soft bass synth, simple melodies and Spanish language thus very reminiscent of Metal Y Ca or Ultima Emocion, and the aforementioned Xeno & Oaklander. “Mutant Menace” is of the same calibre, less romantic with the Boss DR-110 bringing in a bit of drive. Killer record and far too short ! A Must-Buy limited to 500 copies !

blue bananas

Artist : Mekanik Kommando

Label : Tonefloat

blue bananas / 10"

1st publication of the "Blue Bananas" 10"; 30 years after its inception, Tonefloat is paying homage to a highly underrated historic period. The trip goes all the way back to 1979, a seminal year for Dutch music. Amsterdam has, by then, turned into the focal point of the post-punk influenced ultra-movement and the minny pops into its figurehead formation. it is in this phase of departure that multi-instrumentalist Peter Van Vliet teams up with bassist and singer Lasika Panyigay to form Mekanik Kommando. Founded in Nijmegen, the band develops a personal script which immediately distinguishes them from the Amsterdam scene: serious yet playful, eccentric yet accessible, dark but highly diverse. More rough, edgy and avantgardistic than the band's later work, all "Blue Bananas" tracks seamlessly flow together into a charmingly lo-fi and colourfully psychedelic sonic quilt with remarkable references to follow-up formation the use of ashes. The Mekanik Kommando releases are out as a limited edition of 475 copies on clear vinyl 10inch, in custom printed pvc sleeve.. Must-Have !!

Artist : Merci La Nuit

Label : Spielzeug Muzak

untitled / 12"

French new-wave is definitly not dead! Here we don't talk about a music genre but an attitude, a position. From the begining in the 50's with the 'nouvelle vague', the aim is to find new forms beyond avant-garde and pop-culture to express true emotions, to show the diseases of the modern world and to challenge norms and obsolete social orders (like bourgeoisie, religion, work, art...). French new-wave is also a passion for wandering, a general tendency for detachment and it is, of course, the Diy spirit. We can find this kind of nonconformism and this common taste for wasted grounds in some movies of Claude Chabrol, Jacques Rivette or Luis Bunuel as well as in the music of Polyphonic Size, Guerre Froide and Merci La Nuit. With this 1st release on vinyl, this young musician from Saint-Etienne offers 6 minimal synth-pop songs filled with great sensibility, commitment and a lot of bitter sweet humor. The music is very personal and digs up very different synth music eras, from the 80's raw analog sounds to the digital coldness of samples and techno kicks, to the more lo-fi minimal sounds. All those elements connected together are forming the sound of the nocturnal conspiracy of Merci La Nuit. So let's go for this night ballad through the city streets. It's a bit foggy tonight...

Taste it..!

bodypop ep

Artist : Metamatics

Label : Shipwrec

bodypop ep / 12"

It seemed like Neo Ouija, a Norfolk based IDM imprint, had closed up shop. 4 years of silence suggested that founder Lee Norris, aka Metamatics, had decided to call it a day. But looks can be deceiving. 2016 saw the boss release a CD album of fluid acid, squelching electro and heartfelt electronics. Shipwrec are now bringing 4 choice cuts from 'Bodypop' to the vinyl faithful. Proudly sitting on the "difficult to define" shelf, Norris seamlessly shifts from frigid winter moods to warming autumnal sunshine. Oldschool sounds are rewired, softened by delicate keys and steady beats. Machine music morphs into organic matter. Acid coils, echoed bleeps and clicks grow and blossom into vivid audio vistas with Metamatics, once again, proving his musical mastery..

in the regions of sunreturn

Artist : Michael Garrison

Label : Ariola

in the regions of sunreturn / LP

Michael Garrison (1956 - 2004) was a synthesist from California. At the age of 13 he wrote his first song and later, during his musical study at the Idaho University, he formed the basic for the first release on his own label Winspell Records, later Garrisongs Music. The original work was titled "In The Regions Of Sunreturn and Beyond" and based on the expeditions of Voyager 1 and 2. But when he managed to get a contract with BMG in 1980 the title changed to "In The Regions Of Sunreturn" and so he became also known in Europe. His style was typical strong sequences with monstrous solos played with various electronic instruments on top. Often a real wall-of-sound experience. He was strongly influenced by the european innovators of electronic music, like Kraftwerk, Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream... Original cult copy ;)

Breakin' vinyl-only release of remixes from Angelika Koehlermann's album. The original is a gentle lullaby, whilst the DMX Krew mixes are tuff Dopplereffekt-style electro and the GD Luxxe version of "Rock Your Body" is a freaky vocoder workout. Don't forget this eclectic one !

half lives

Artist : Mick Milk

Label : Anna Logue Records

half lives / LP+7"

Mick Milk was the early 80's musical outlet of Diy-synth master and guitarist Mick M., back then hailing from New York City, USA. Mick recorded a few dozen of incredibly amazing tracks which cannot be described other than superbly creative in terms of using analogue synthesisers for sound design and song arrangement in electronic pop music while adding brilliant and unique vocal moments to the whole. Even though his music was almost abnormally rich in ideas and both technical and playing skills, proper comparisons are other representatives of the weirder kind of electronic pop music and ahead-of-their-times projects such like Richard Bone, Our Daughter's Wedding, John Bender or Der Plan and Devo. In 1982, Mick recorded his one and only vinyl release, 'Half Life' for Cyclops Records. For this album, Anna Logue Records has carefully selected and compiled the 14 most obscure, electronic and label-fitting tracks from his demo tape 'Songs For Citizens' (1982) & a batch of previously unreleased tracks from 1982-83. Absolutely essential !!

Microthol's debut 9 track doublepack album fuses electro, acid and disco in unique Microthol style, employing a twitchy 303, catchy harmonies, fat analog production and the occasional tongue firmly placed in cheek. The result is an album that will work as nicely on the dancefloor as it will in a home stereo, from the upliftling grooves of "Acid Bosons", the playful disco vibes of "Midnight Moroder" to the elegic acid of "Late Shift At The Meson Factory". From upfront dancefloor cuts to more introvert productions. Check!

Killer new 7" from Polytechnic Youth featuring the enigmatic, underground genius of Middex. Cold as fuck, brutally icey synth blasts from the depths of South East London. In the man himself's own words: "This is the 2nd installation of suburban deliberation and galactic musings for Polytechnic Youth from Middex. This is outer space hidden in the outer boroughs plastered over the flat thump of frosted perspex hearts". Artist : Mik At Home

Label : Sendertechnik

sendertechnik 004 / 12"

Mik At Home is best known for his collaborative work with Berlin’s most talked about 8-bit electropopper – Skanfrom. This is Mik’s first solo full-length and is a killer addition to the Hardwax-related family of homegrown talent. With a sound reminiscent of Solvent at their finest, the 8 tracks here have an analog, spacious electroid squelch of a sound with large doses of pop thrown into the mix. Superb !

falun gong

Artist : Milligram Retreat

Label : Enfant Terrible

falun gong / LP

Milligram Retreat (aka Maurice Hermes & Renée van Trier), from Holland brings back experiment and artistic value in a style of music that is otherwise mostly hollow and without any cultural relevance today. The careful crafted minimalistic sound sculptures go from poppy to noisy and from beat orientated to creepy ambient pieces. While working in the tradition of 80's electro pioneers and proto new-wave acts, Milligram Retreat are a product of this day and age. There are hints of Ende Shneafliet and Doxa Sinistra in their music and also some Berlin 80's touches are evident. Still they never look back too far as they rather destroy the past to build it up again to their own likings. Really really nice !

violent rains

Artist : Minuit Machine

Label : No Emb Blanc

violent rains / LP+CD

Paris synth duo Minuit Machine have been working through the paces of dark, moody coldwave at a fair clip. Their 2013 debut ep 'Blue Moon' showed a keen ear for using synth pads and harmonics to strike a melancholy mood, and 1st LP 'Live & Destroy' showed them working in punchier and more uptempo tracks into the mix. 2nd full-length 'Violent Rains' connects all of these points and styles together quite smoothly, but perhaps more impressive is the emotional intensity communicated by its production and vocals. The style of the record is classic French coldwave, but the service into which the synths are pressed shows a keen awareness of how electronics have been used in all manner of dark music since that genre's heyday. Check the dead simple opening of "Battles": a heavily-gated drum track spits along plainly, and a simple broken arpeggio carries things along through the verse with aplomb. The desperate, anthemic chorus feels straight out of the early 80's, but the relative warmth and bounce of the synths which run through the verse make the whole affair much more immediate and present. Making classic archetypes feel contemporary in mood is perhaps a far trickier task than simply 'updating' a sound, but Minuit Machine feel very much of the current day. The vocals of Amandine Stioui, though, are 'Violent Rains'..I don’t want to say secret weapon (as they’re never hidden or downplayed in the mix), but the role they play in maintaining the otherworldly passion connoted by the instrumentation can't be understated. Comparisons to Clan of Xymox's Anka Wolbert, Kirlian Camera's Emilia Lo Jacono, and even Zola Jesus seem warranted, but it's what Stioui does with her naturally commanding register that matters. There's a defiant fatalism which runs through the record. 'You and me, we were doomed before we were born' she intones on "Everlasting", a tale of a self-immolating relationship which continues on in spite of itself. A more existential message of resistance is found on the aforementioned "Battles": 'There's no hero, no God to protect us / We're alone when the darkness surrounds us / Life is ours, no one will ruin it for us'. Even the less extreme moments on the record, like reflective character study "Honey", are given extra emotional heft by Stioui's vocals. The sheer volume of talented young dark synth acts on the rise in Europe can be staggering and nigh impossible to track at times. Influences are certainly worn on sleeves and Minuit Machine are no exception, but what separates the wheat from the chaff is whether those classic sounds are being imitated or used as a toolset for exploring themes and ideas which are come by honestly. The emotion of Minuit Machine’s music, rife with drama and gothic excess, leaves no question as to their motives. Buy It !

champagne! ep

Artist : Miss Kittin & The Hacker

Label : Gigolo

champagne! ep / 12"

The reigning queen of the electroclash revival, Miss Kittin's debut ep with partner-in-crime The Hacker, proves to be a miss who is distinctive enough to take the 80's-influenced genre to innovative levels. Mixer Magazine has included the artist in their top wrap up of 2002. Includes the infamous x-rated singles "Frank Sinatra" & "1982". Electroclashic !

first album

Artist : Miss Kittin & The Hacker

Label : Gigolo

first album / 2x12"

The 1997 single "Frank Sinatra" is more shocking for its spot-on electro atmospherics than for its lyrics, proving that Hacker's punk years were a valuable tutorial for success 2002-style. Throughout, Hacker spins weird little theramin squirms, horror halo tones, and chunky beatbox handclaps, while Kittin discourses about trading sex for cash ("Stock Exchange"), ambitious disco queens ("Nurse"), and, of course, the burlesque life ("Stripper"). First Album is really a one-song affair, but its alluring message is so kitschy, kinked, and campy, the song never sounds the same.. Nice !

lost tracks vol. 1

Artist : Miss Kittin & The Hacker

Label : Dark Entries

lost tracks vol. 1 / 12"

Miss Kittin & The Hacker are the electro duo of Caroline Hervé & Michel Amato from Grenoble, France. The pair met during the early 90's at a rave and soon after bought turntables and began Djing. In 1996, they began writing music heavily influenced by 80's synth and post-punk bands like Fad Gadget, DAF, Liaisons Dangeuresues, and Yazoo, as well as italo-disco. Bored by the techno scene at the time, they set out out to lighten the serious tone and bring a campy sexiness to the dour musical landscape. Upon hearing their demos Dj Hell signed them to his Munich-based International DJ Gigolo label and released their first 2 eps in 1998 and 1999. Their debut album 'First Album' was released in 2001. 'Lost Tracks Vol. 1' contains 4 previously unreleased demos recorded between 1997 and 1999. The duo fused 80's European new-wave/italo-disco with 90's Detroit electro acts like Le Car and Dopplereffekt. By utilizing verse-chorus structures, they playfully shook up the loop based hard techno and electro that was popular at the time. Their studio set up at the time was a Korg MS-20, Roland SH-101, TR-606, TR-808, Siel DK80, and Boss DR-660 drum machine. The songs are direct, spontaneous, seemingly improvised in places. Miss Kittin sings about falling in love with an alien, sexy nightlife in Berlin, and explicit S&M leather play, all in her cheekily derisive French accent. The vinyl comes housed in a glossy jacket featuring a black and white photo of the duo taken in 1996. Each ep includes a postcard with liner notes from Miss Kittin and The Hacker designed by Eloise Leigh. As Miss Kittin says of these demos, “We were naive, innocent, adventurous and we didn't expect anything in return”.. Their best work to date..

outer space

Artist : Model 500

Label : Metroplex

outer space / 12"

Beginning in the early 80's Cybotron, Channel One, Infiniti and Model 500 were all names Juan Atkins worked under to produce some of the most experimental electro music ever recorded. Model 500's return with "Outer Space" is a taste of that dirty, funk-fueled electro that can only come from Detroit. The song begins with aggressive and syncopated drum patterns, followed by a dirty analog bassline. The hard groove lays the foundation for Juan's vocals and bubbling synth technique, a piece of vocal electro-techno from the master. Tip !

Seventeen years since their 1st R&S release, Model 500 return to the label with the same classic chassis driven by a retuned motor including Mad Mike Banks, Mark Taylor (aka Vintage Future) and Dj Skurge alongside the original catalyst, Juan Atkins. The group have been playing live shows together since 2007, developing a lithe new techno "band" format. "OFI" is the st result of their recording sessions, sticking to the original blueprint of mean but funky electro with Juan's vocals sparingly used over classic riffage and crisp rhythm programming. For our money, Mad Mike Banks improves on the original with his Hi-Tek funk rework, stripping the original down in order to boost the punchy, swinging drums with booming 08 pulses while tucking the lead melody deep in the pocket with minimal fuss for maximum effect. Over on the flip they hit a blooming marvelous techno stride with "Huesca", layering and filtering soul-lifting UR strings with magical synth bursts for a puckered dancefloor ride, Detroit Must-Have..!

shouldn't I be dead by now? / 12"

A firm contender for title of the year, "Shouldn't I Be Dead By Now" is the new 12" from Model Man (aka Dj Overdose). It follows his killer Sumerian Fleet 12" (with Alden Tyrell) into darker, wavier places on the A-side, from the heroic synths and propulsive electro of "Honesty Doesn't Pay", to more cinematic moments such as the Jean Michel Jarre-esque "Hopeless Romantic". The mission continues on the flip with the Harald Faltermeyer drama of the title track, into the epic Ultravox styles of "Hoe De Pet Staat" and a mystical conclusion in "Model Man". Tipped for all followers of the wave...

circuit lights (1982-1986) / LP

An incredible compilation, beautifully packaged, from one of the best groups of the era. The songs that Gary Ramon edited during the Modern Art era (from 1982 to 1989) was basically from cassettes; most of his music didn't take off outside of the English undergroundu scene in the 80's, probably due to the fact he only had limited copies of his albums, in some cases less that 50. Inspite of the circumstances his songs are still fondly remembered by many lovers of independent music and after many years others have also discovered his surprisingly fascinating work, (partly) thanks to the internet. Nowadays it's much more difficult to enjoy his music in its original format and even more so to enjoy his completed work. For all these reasons new Spanish label Domestica have decided to produce this selection which gathers up and represents part of the original work during the most experimental era of Gary Ramon's music career. We constantly wonder why this compilation has not been thought of before now. Tip !!!

Artist : Modern Witch

Label : Treue Um Treue

hollywood / LP

The story of Modern Witch began 6 years ago in Denver, Colorado, when graphic artist Mario Zoots, singer Kristy Fenton and house veteran Kamran Khan started recording experimental music together on an old VHS camera. In the space of a few years, a couple of very limited tape and CD-r releases on labels such as Disaro and Clan Destine Records, and a series of spooky performances both in Europe and on the American continent, the trio has become a true underground reference for creepy, ritualistic dance music, in the muddy but oh so fascinating waters between witch-house and minimal-synth. Treue um Treue presents a selection of their best tracks for the 1st time on vinyl, on 2 twin-LPs of which this is the first. Drunk on 80's coldwave, bathed in suburbian occult decadence and haunted by dead celebrities, 'Hollywood' is a feast of thaumaturgic synth lines, nonchalant but captivating mpc 1000, sequences, drugged-out spoken words and ghostly voices. American angst or minimal doom electronics at their best!

moderne / l'espionne aimait la musique / 2x12"

Limited edition double lp release of Moderne's : Moderne (1980) & L'Espionne Aimait La Musique (1981), remastered from the original analog reels and housed in a matte laminate gatefold jacket with a poster featuring an interview, and band photo. Moderne was a minimal synth-pop band formed in Tours (France), in 1979. After releasing 2 albums & 2 singles between 1980-1981, nothing was heard from Moderne aside from "Switch On Bach" (released on the compilation So Young But So Cold). Moderne remains notoriously hidden in the past, and their albums and singles have become collectors items. The albums were mixed by Joschko Rudas and Henning Schmitz at Studio Rudas Düsseldorf, the same studio Kraftwerk used for Man Machine (1978). The production is exceptional. This is French new-wave at its best. Tip !!!

zenith / LP

A sweeping, cinematic, emotional change is in the air. DiY cult figure Molly Nilsson's 6th studio album 'Zenith' begins with clear, wide eyes open to Earth as we would love it to be but seldom is. Recorded in her home of Berlin and whilst touring and, as ever, conceived, produced, written and recorded in solitude, 'Zenith' is Nilsson's big statement and consequently her most affecting work to date. It sees her reveling in big arrangements, sweeping synth strings, bigger choruses and emotions. Like the rest of us she looks within and to endless sunsets in wonder and puzzlement. 1st press on white vinyl, limited to 500 copies. Including lyrics insert & download code ;)

Artist : Molly Nilsson

Label : Night School

single / 7"

Peek-a-boo! An artist in her songwriting prime, hyperactive with the possibilities of the world despite the global zeitgeist forever shifting, Molly Nilsson sent us 2 new songs around the same time as the tracks for her new album 'Imaginations' that were incredible pop tunes on their own right, yet just too long to fit on 'Imaginations'. Like much else in Molly's career, we decided to break the mould, not follow album-release protocol, and surprise you all with this double AA a mere fortnight before Imaginations hits the shelves. "About Somebody" seems to be about somebody, or maybe even somebody's body, about desire too, perhaps. How else to interpret the line 'Babe I want to party with you every night, and have a hard-on for the rest of my life?' But this is a Molly Nilsson song, and this is empowering content. Over a rousing, even anthemic, verse/chorus one-two, a soaring synth-string hook that rides the handclaps beautifully, we're soon left wondering whether our beloved narrator is really focusing on the 'other' at all. Love lets you down: treat it mean, keep it keen, and remember if you can't love yourself how the hell are you gonna love any body else? On the flip, "Quit (In Time)", is a classic minor-key Nilsson elegy to obsession and addiction, sounding almost close to an early 80's Springsteen love-story. Here we imagine Nilsson at the piano, her heart a resounding bell for all longing. If about somebody is the tumultuous onset of an affair, here we're hopelessly drawn to the flame, unable to leave alone that which causes the sweetest pain. It's a universal theme, the longing for something we shouldn't have, and Nilsson seems to elucidate the feeling with a precise, razor-sharp lyrical nous that fans will instantly recognise. 'Single' is about the self and the other; about navigating the love of others that tries to trip us up. But it's also about you. 'Single' is because you're worth it.

imaginations / LP

Molly Nilsson is now our well-established soulmate, sister and fairy godmother. In 2015, Molly Nilsson's 'Zenith' broke new ground for her, fast becoming her biggest selling album to date, winning her new acolytes. For us, Molly Nilsson is beyond other songwriters and singers. A lyricist so nuanced and honed that each epithet speaks directly to the heart, removed from the humdrum of everyday life and industry. For an artist who has so successfully created her own environment and gradually let others in, her 8th studio album 'Imaginations' sees Nilsson directly engaging with her surroundings, engendering change and allowing love in. 'Imaginations' dreams big, recasting storming, stadium-sized pop into the internal language of the solo auteur. 'Imaginations' is not escapism, it's a kaleidoscope and an alternative view, an agent of change. On 'Imaginations' Molly is recasting her interior monologue as a prism through which to see the world, a means to live differently and to reject the status quo. We can Think Pink, change our destiny together. This is an optimism about the future when we need it the most. Standard black vinyl edition !

follow the light

Artist : Molly Nilsson

Label : Night School

follow the light / LP

"The closest we'll ever get to heaven, with a stolen six pack from 7/11, and though the city sleeps I better she never dreams, she never dreams like you and me." The beginning moments of Molly Nilsson's 2nd album 'Follow The Light' now seem like the start of a personal mythology that was to reach further than she could have imagined. Few contemporary artists have so seeped into the underground pop psyche than the Stockholm-born songwriter. After releasing her debut 'These Things Take Time' on hand-made CDrs, Nilsson's follow up was a leap in scope and ambition. Of course, the personal takes on a tumultuous life in Berlin and the journeys to and from it inform the songs as before, but there's a growing maturity in the songwriting in evidence. From the diary pages of 'These Things Take Time' to a growing stature as a songwriter in touch with the universal, 'Follow The Light' contains many of Nilsson's now firm fan-favourites. "The Closest We'll Ever Get To Heaven" is classic Molly Nilsson. Over plaintive piano chords and little else, Nilsson narrates a story of doomed friends lost, the onset of an East German winter reminding the singer of a time lost, nostalgia frosting the windows to the past. "Meanwhile In Berlin", perhaps a passing nod to Leonard Cohen in the melodic refrain, opens up the sonic palette, with synth strings fitting Nilsson's delivery perfectly. "Never O'Clock" is a pure pop moment, with a lilting funk and percussion adding a carpe diem immediacy to the album's flow. "Last Forever", which remains a staple to live encores now, 7 years later, is fist-pumping melancholy that only Molly Nilsson knows how to do. It's over before it begins and begs eternal repeat. "Truth", a synth pop song that sees Nilsson exploring the upper and lower registers of her voice, feels like a lost chart hit from the mid 80's. "I Hope You Sleep At Night", a vitriolic lover's admonishment gives way to one of Nilsson's most popular songs: "I'm Still Wearing His Jacket". It's a sentiment that needs no real explanation: the mementos of a completed love affair remain in our wardrobes waiting to hurt us all over again. "Hello Loneliness" could also be an updated Leonard Cohen song, a peon to melancholy which reminds us that Nilsson has a knack for distilling the complex into sharp epithets. We end on one of Nilsson's greatest songs. "A Song They Won't Be Playing On The Radio" is so finely loaded with emotion that it's the singer's reserved delivery that makes it so powerful. Standard black vinyl edition !

Founded in December 1984, they started to make a name for themselves (the name comes from Stanly Kubriks classic 'Clockwork Orange' and stands for a special drink which was available at the Korova Milkbar. In the russian translation Moloko + means 'milk with knives'). At the same time in Great Britain bands like Bauhaus, Dead Can Dance, or Southern Death Cult started a new era in music: Gothic Underground. Moloko + with its singer Martin Holm gave great concerts and got a well known name in the scene in Southern Germany. TV, radio and the press followed closely the rise of the band from Landshut. The 1986 published 1st record is still an admirable jewel and should not be missed on any searching list. They got prepared to record a 2nd album when "suddenly a comet burned out, near the sun, on distant skys". "In Meinen Taschen Die Sterne Wie Staub" (translation: In my pockets the stars like dust). The song from the 1st album and our thoughts are dedicated to our leadsinger Martin Holm, who left our world much to early. Edition of 400 numbered copies. niagara flow / 12"

Monkeyshop (aka Luke Eargoggle & Rutherford) delivered here 3 tracks of vintage sounding electro-disco hybrids. The main cut gives it off italo-disco stylee; lots of analogue synths and drums with a gliterball construction to reach for the floor. The flipside delivers 2 choice cuts: the 1st an almost permanent drum roll loop propelled by some cool analogue synths titled "The Monkey", and the 2nd, and most definitely the stand out, an electro cut titled "Ancient Cables". This ace electro number mutates sharp beats and top synths with delayed and heavily reverbed melodies that plays along and echoes around it delivering a superb vibe. Nice..

Kim Rappati drops an electro track of immense proportions on the B-side of this Dum 12", 'Stars' has a dark futuristic feel about it with a wicked bass line that rolls throughout the track, slick drums and added percussion combine with the melodies to create a classic, Dum re-surfaces with a winner. Also the Melody Boy 2000 rmx on the A-side has a detroit feel to it with an e2-e4 style trance line running through it that builds and builds until the break where the strings are added, perfectly leading the track to its repetitive groove that works a treat. Monojunk's original mix is a little rawer and less melodic and adds a harder edge, using a spannered acid line and tougher drums but still retains the feet leading groove that makes it an instant winner. 2 other mixes make the 12" complete and add more tracks to make the floor shake. Killer ep..

Artist : Monopol

weltweit / LP

Long out of print Neu Deutsche Welle cult classic album 'Weltweit' by Monopol. Released in 1982, 'Weltweit' was the sole output of the band. It has appropriately become quite rare and difficult to find with the resulting high prices to obtain an original copy. Inspired by the greats such as Kraftwerk, YMO and Klaus Schulze, the 3 members crafted an exquisite collection of pop songs played on a very impressive collection of analog synthesizers, self-builds and drum machines that were considered cutting edge at the time. The band would have recorded a 2nd album but split up before that was possible. Members of the band continued to be involved in the music industry at least peripherally but didn't participate in further collaborations or bands. Also nterestingly, Monopol was basically a studio-only project and actually never played live (despite some TV appearances). The album has been remastered by Martin Bowes at the Cage, UK. Contains a special bonus insert with lyrics and photos. Definitely a must-have for fans of NDW such as Grauzone, Reingold and the like. Presented on high quality 180gr classic black vinyl. Limited edition.

Artist : Monuments

Label : Anna Logue Records

In 1984, the Monuments, consisting of Andrea Costa and Mauro Tavella from Torino (Italy), released their only official record, a mini lp called “Age” comprising six incredibly fantastic electro-pop tracks. Anna ever thought of this mini lp as being the best electro-pop record ever coming out of Italy. So what you get on this cd is indeed an essential retrospective compilation album of one of Italy’s pioneering underground electronic music acts. And while Andrea and Mauro want to close this chapter with this release, a project entitled Monuments II is maybe on its way… Limited to 500 copies. Check !!!

Artist : Monuments

age / LP

Crown jewel of the early 80's Italian minimal-synth scene. The Monuments came into being in january 1981 in Turin when Mauro Tavella (keyboards, programming) and Andrea Costa (keyboards, voice) pooled their artistic experiences. From the outset they produced exclusively synthesised music, following the natural evolution in electronic music from the early days with monophonic synthesisers to the latest virtual sounds generated with the aid of computers. The Monuments released in 1984 their only official record on Discordie, a mini-LP called 'Age' comprising 6 incredibly fantastic electro-pop tracks, here reissued by Mannequin Records with 2 bonus tracks, "Veiled Lady" and "The Seals", which are out-takes from the same period. All the tracks were recorded on a Tascam 8-tracks, with external synchronisation of the percussions, at the TKS Studio in Torino. From 1987 onwards, they focused exclusively on music for theatre, radio and independent film, writing scores for the opening sequences of programmes for some of the most important Italian tv companies as well as soundtracks for documentaries. Anna Logue Records released the 'XXVII' CD in 2009, an anthology of their music that contains the best of their early work from the years 1981-84. Some critics thought of this mini LP as being the best electro-pop record ever coming out of Italy. A masterpiece limited to 300 copies on black vinyl..!

Artist : Moral

Label : Dark Entries

and life is / LP

Moral was the trio of Marco Andreis (guitars, bass), Hanne Winterberg (vocals) and Ingolf Brown (synthesizers, rhythm box, sequencer) from Aarhus, Denmark formed in 1981. They released their debut mini-album 'Dance Of The Dolls' on cassette in 1981 and the album 'Whispering Sons' on cassette in 1982. The group played very few concerts, but supported both Monochrome Set & Nico. In May 1983, they contributed 3 songs to the Irmgardz Records sampler 'Somewhere Outside', a compilation featuring groups from outside of Copenhagen. During the summer of 1983, Moral recorded and produced their debut LP, 'And Life Is...' at Ingolf Brown's home studio. It was the 1st release on Ingolf's label ARP Gramophone in August 1984. Influenced by early 4AD Records, Joy Division, Brian Eno and Wire, the band crafted their own brand of Nordic melancholic post-punk. The album develops the band's signature sound of airy, glacial synthesizers with crepuscular guitar and serpentine melodies. The main synthesizers used are the primitive Roland TR-606 Drumatix, the percussion side-kick to the TB-303, plus the BOSS DR-55 Dr. Rhythm drum machine. Hanne's hauntingly beautiful vocals walk the line between germanic chill of Nico & Alison Statton of Young Marble Giants. Lyrical themes of cold nights and blossoming relationships paint a detailed picture of youthful life in Scandinavia. This deluxe edition contains 3 bonus tracks that originally appeared on the 'Somewhere Outside' compilation. The jacket is an exact replica of the original 1984 edition featuring a photo by Per Wiklund of a wave crashing into the sea. Each copy includes a double sided 11"x11" insert containing lyrics for each song and photos of the band. This reissue is dedicated to Ingolf Brown who passed away in 2012..

1982-1987 a compilation

Label : Domestica

1982-1987 a compilation / LP

2nd half of the 70's and the 1st half of the 80's was armed with a unique string of sensationally great bands and musicians. There was no problem getting inspired. Inspiration came from such artist as Cabaret Voltaire, Front 242, early Human League, DAF, Joy divison, David Sylvain, OMD, John Foxx, to name a few. And if that was not enough you could always listen to Kraftwerk, Neu or Brian Eno. Moss Garten & Vildsvanen was all about recording music, very few live gigs were performed. Live gigs did not seem to work very well, although billed together with Smithereens from New Jersey and already ledgendary Motörhead finally a decent gig was accomplished. The keyword was Diy. Recordings were all self-produced and mostly the audio engineer work was Diy styled. Always low on cash entailed limitation to which kind of studio could be used and the amount of time which could be spent on a recording. Most of the tunes was recorded and mixed in less than 2 hours and crashed tunes was sometimes reworked years later. You learned to prepare yourself before a recording. Lack of cash also excluded the use of very expensive synthesizers and drum machines, although pleased with my machinery you always wanted more muscles. These limitation was not bad – you became creative. These limitations became the framework together with your influences which gave the music its caracter, but in the end a recording and distribution contract, combined with a proper studio was the goal. Limited edition of 250 numbered copies including a sleeve-sized insert and booklet. Massive one..

Artist : Move

Label : Mannequin

untitled / 12"

Long sought after by collectors and originally released in 1986 by a small independent label, the sound of this stellar full length is driven by sharp post-punk guitars, tribal rhythms and ghostly synthesizers, following the UK coldwave and post-punk tradition. Reflecting the realities of life in a city like Rome in the political landscape of the early 80's in Italy, Move were releasing also a couple of tapes and a split 12" with Gronge before dissolving into obscurity. The history of Italian post-punk begins around 1979, in some specific areas of the Belpaese. The productions were coming out from Pordenone and Bologna, with The Great Complotto and Italian Records influencing the rest of the territory. In a less organic way something began to arise in other parts of Italy, especially in the center-north where Florence, Turin, Milan and Rome were playing a crucial role. A forgotten classic, strongly recommended for fans of Joy Division, New Order, Section 25, Killing Joke, Bauhaus, Gang Of Four. Limited edition of 400 copies, insert with lyrics included.

Artist : Mr Pauli

Label : Viewlexx

don't want to be you / 12"

Here it is... The long awaited Mr. Pauli solo-ep. Four unbelievably raw-rocking neo-Italo monsters on one plate. This shiny black piece of wax will stay in your recordbag for a looooooong time!

935 lies

Artist : Mr Pauli

Label : Clone West Coast Series

935 lies / 12"

Ingmar Pauli with his masculine take on The Hague disco. Phat bass lines, vocoders, big strings and synth themes with its roots in italo disco and electro. Great tracks and probably the best Mr Pauli release so far ! The 2nd release on the Clone West Coast series... the series that will feature some of the big players of the Dutch west coast electro disco scene. Mr Pauli rocks !!!

jap fab

Artist : Mr Pauli

Label : Clone

jap fab / 12"

Mr Pauli (1 half of the Novamen ) with a very strong solo release. Amazing electro disco tracks with massive bass lines mixed with some new wave influences flavors. "Jap Fab" is only one highlight on this ep! "Questions" is a loose electro wave track with vocals by Nancy Fortune & Fred Ventura. "Pick Up The Phone" is another killer track. Vocals that will stick in your mind for days to come... This would have been a chart hit 25 years ago... Last track "Eva W." is a great modern electro disco wave track with a real bass line so nice it makes you wanna dance your ass off. Killer ep with some timless music !

electric appliances

Artist : Mr Velcro Fastener

Label : Air Recordings

electric appliances / 12"

Back to the source in the good old 80's tradition of minimal electro-pop : kicks and snares made by Roland, electro bass sound that opens up a sinuous way on the rythmic patterns of the rythm-box, C-64 melodies and breaks in Kraftwerkian atmosphere with 2 female and male voices trying to seduce themselves : "you're be my computer" followed by "you'll be my user". B-side : Plump Dj's remix ! Nice Shot !

Artist : Mr. Clavio

Label : Creme Organization

call me mister falcon / paper world / 12"

Repress of the first ever Crème Organization record. Produced by Legowelt and Dj TLR. "Call Me Mr Falcon" is one very deep, evil italo disco track that will pop your ears and shake your booty ! Must have...

Artist : Mr. De'

Label : Electrofunk

superugly / 12"

After over 10 years of work as a producer and nearly 20 years of making electronic music, Mr. De' (aka Ade' Mango Henderson Mainor) has a sound drawn from a number of funk-based urban sounds, blending them together into a composite whole that emphasizes up-tempo booty shakin' over the chin-stroking styles of techno. Following the release of his debut album and the continuing success of Electrofunk Records, Ade has solidified his position at the forefront of Detroit dance music. Soon he began toying with drum machines and turntables, producing skeletal hip-hop tracks as a young teen. Today, Mainor is the originator of pure ghettotech. At the helm of Electrofunk's distribution arm, he also controls the destiny of his fellow ghettotech peers in Detroit as they try and spread their sound outside of the city. Whether or not the rest of the world is ready for this Detroit-bred, post-modern style of urban music is an unanswered question, but there is no questioning the fact that Mr. De' may just be the most important man in that crusade. Supersupersuperfunky electro ghettotech tracks. Essential..

the complete can you feel it

Artist : Mr. Fingers

Label : Trax Records

the complete can you feel it / 12"

Mr Fingers's classic from produced by the one and only Larry Heard. We really shouldn't rant on too much here, it's all been said already by nearly everyone with an interest in real classic Chicago house music.. Here with the original instrumental, Robert Owens mix, Martin Luther King mix and Chuck D. mix on 1 plate.. Just a milestone !

Artist : Mulletronic

Label : Sewer Leak

sexual / 12"

Sexual is Finnish Mulletronic's (aka Marko Kanala) first release. The mixture of old classics and newer technology gives this electro stormer ep, 4 original tracks both for rocking the dancefloor and also for home listening in an electro-disco synth-pop twist. We can easily recognize influences from Legowelt to even Kraftwerk. Nice Shot !!!

Artist : Multiplex

Label : Human Shield

momensch / 12"

The Human Shield Record Company spew forth a blocky gruel in the form of "Momensch", the latest release from electronic brothers, Multiplex. "Macao" kicks off the ep and whips up some serious foam while "My Synthesiser" merges that trademark electroid / idm crossover beautifully; great stuff. Next level melodies combined with back street drum surgery ask unanswerable questions. Closing track "Keep - X" winds things up nicely leaving you sweating and in need of a stiff drink and a roll up. So there you have it, the Human Shield Record Company once again steps in just in time to rescue the bloated hulk of electronic music. Try It ;)

tropical warrior

Artist : Muravchix

Label : Dissident

tropical warrior / 12"

Sebastian Mmuravchik is Ali Rrenault's partner in neo italo-disco sensations heartbreak who are soon to be massive. This is the 1st of many releases he has lined up for Dissident. An energetic and emotional soaked downtempo euro style masterpiece thats equally at home on the dancefloor or soundtracking a long lost episode of 'Miami Vice'. Check ;)

faded heart

Artist : Mushy

Label : Mannequin

faded heart / LP

1st full-lenght vinyl of Mushy, the stage name of Valentina F., 26 years old sound-experimentalist rising from the dusty ruins of Rome, making music all by her lonesome since the year 2003. Mushy unveils here her double sided synth-wave and kraut-psychedelic soul, being deeply influenced by the works of Cocteau Twins, Minimal Compact, ect.. 'Faded Heart' is able to produce soundscapes which open the listenerʼs doors to strangely nigthmarish illuminated "nocturnal sacrality". The sound architecture reveals a charming world, made by the mixture of analog drum machines loops and an effect-processed bad off acoustic guitar found in a flea market with only 4 strings, burgeoning cold drones, tempestuous noises, spectral chants which rise at the surface. For the lo-fi atmospheres and the tales of lost loves, 'Faded Heart' might be considered the italian answer to the magnificient Zola Jesus release "The Spoils" on Sacred Bones. Home-recorded, 'Faded Heart' was lately mixed and processed at Mannequin studio with a full analog setup. Incredible !!
