untitled / LP

Compilation/reissue of the UK underground duo Laugh Clown Laugh. Composed of Sam Findlay and Dominic O'Brien, Laugh Clown Laugh hailed from the northeast Somerset town of Frome (100 miles west of London). Though the band only had 1 actual released track ("Feel So Young" featured on a 1984 101International 2LP comp), the duo recorded many more tracks literally in their living room in the early 80's. Inspired by early 80's synth-pop, they were able to purchase early Sequential Circuits and Korg synths as well as a TR606. What resulted from these home recordings on tape are some of the most young at heart, sincere, and amazing synth-pop the world has never heard. Due to lack of publicity/etc, these recordings sadly have been stored away until recently as a cult following has mounted after the attention and correspondence with Crispy Nuggets blog. In addition to the driving, infectious earworm that is "Feel So Young" (and the dub version), this LP is composed of 10 never before heard songs from those home recordings. All tracks have been transferred and restored from the original tapes with dazzling results. This LP will certainly appeal to fans of earliest Human League, Oppenheimer Analysis, and earliest Vince Clarke era Depeche Mode (but even more sparse). Presented on 180gr transparent orange high-quality vinyl in a limited edition. Bonus insert included as well with liner notes by Kurt B. Reighley and other tidbits. Fantastic release !

A killer selection of ice cold motorized Detroit electro tracks by Le Car! After Le Car had been dismantled and the parts put in storage years ago we have a final ride with Le Car that has been reassembled for the occasion. The '96-'97 Detroit electro project by Adam Lee Miller (later known for his ADULT. project) and Ian Clarke (known for his Perspects project) show another side of the Detroit music scene. The duo met at Art School and had a shared love for electronic music and conceptual art. This resulted in their own little vehicle named Le Car that had a test drive for 4 ep's. The 'Auto-Fuel EP', 'Auto-Graph EP', 'Automatic' and the final 'Auto-Motif EP' of which 3 came out on Miller's Detroit label Monoplaza Record Company (a sublabel of Ersatz Audio). The connection between Rotterdam/The Hague and Detroit was quickly made those days when a new generation of producers came up (including producers such as DBX, Ectomorph and Drexciya) which resulted in collaborations and releases of ADULT., Perspects and also Drexciya. These releases by Le Car are the conceptual link between the Detroit techno scene and the heritage of the automotive city that effected everything thats been going on in the city for the last 4-5 decades. Inspired by the electronic musical pioneers that came to rise during the decline of the city which was in full effect during the 80's. Robots replacing humans in the factories, Electronic machines replacing musical instruments. Where the warm Motown sound could stand for the rise of the city, the city's electro/techno movement which appeared in all layers of the population can be seen as the (beautiful) reflection of the city's downfall with Le Car as one understated and important part. Now, 20 years after their 1st test drive we celebrate the last ride of Le Car on Clone Classic Cuts. Enjoy the ride! (ltd edition 2lp album)

LCN (aka Le Chocolat Noir) was present on the 'Noblesse Oblige' compilation (Gooiland 23) with a sweaty EBM influenced track. On this 4-track ep you can expect dark and cold elektro sounds. It is reminiscent of Invasion Planète and Kommando 6 output but with a cleaner and more modern sound. Still if you like(d) these early 2000's elektro sounds you will love this too! This ep follows up on the steady stream of releases LCN has been putting out lately. Among them on labels as Frigio Records and Return To Disorder, but this is probably his most dark and freaked out release up till now... Edition of 200 copies, screen printed sleeve !

consumer behaviour

21.99€

Artist : Le Cliche

Label : Medical Records LLC

consumer behaviour / LP

Medical Records presents the debut full-length release of Le Cliché, entitled 'Consumer Behaviour'. The album consists of 11 songs influenced largely by European synth-pop of the late 70's and early 80's (The Human League, John Foxx, OMD, early Depeche Mode, Japan, Gary Numan, Propaganda and Kraftwerk). More recent influences include the 1st album by Miss Kittin & The Hacker, Tiga, Benny Benassi, Erlend Øye and Ladytron. The music might be best described as minimal synth, synth-pop, postmodernist, cold assembly line with neo consumerist themes, based on the use of synth sequences and virtual voices. The inspiration for the subject matter of the songs comes from the many inconsistencies and ironies of the current consumer and consumption centered society in which we live. Le Cliché is the synth project of Gerard Ryan, native of Limerick (Ireland), Associate Professor of marketing and consumer behaviour at the Rovira I Virgili University in Spain and a Visiting Fellow at Cornell University, New York. Le Cliché was initially established in 1984 when Ryan was a teenager, but later the project was put on hiatus in favour of a career in academia. Le Cliché was re-ignited in 2012, motivated by the appearance of new music from the 80's that was being rediscovered and released by a host of relatively small but hugely motivated new record labels including Medical Records, and the like (and groups such as Dark Day, Mathematiques Modernes, Bal Paré, Ceramic Hello, and Experimental Products). When in 2012 the track "Waiting On The Internet" emerged as a reflection of Ryan's doctoral research on the frustrations and anxieties experienced by consumers when interacting with computer technology in the use of the Internet, the Le Cliché project was revived. Since then the main source of inspiration has come from Ryan's work as an academic, taking a critical view of the inconsistencies of the marketing centered approach to business and the all-pervasive reach of marketing activities in our daily lives as consumers (rather than citizens). All of the tracks on the album are from the 2012-2014 period except for "I Woke Up This Morning (like I always do)", which is a reimagining of a 1984 demo of the track entitled "I Dreamt I Was Dead". 2 tracks on the album reflect on the everyday mundane, often drab, act of waiting in line, whether in situ, on the phone or on the Internet ("Thank You For Holding" & "Waiting On The Internet"). "Production Line", is the mostly instrumental opening track to the album which clearly displays its Kraftwerkian influences. "Production Line" reflects on the so-called sweatshops that produce many of our most beloved brands but often fail to adequately compensate workers for their labour or protect basic worker rights. It contemplates the fact that that most of these workers will never be able to afford the designer brands they churn out day after day in overcrowded factories and often-deplorable conditions. Other tracks deal with topics which are more personal and intimate such as Aquaphobia and Ventolin, thus giving some indication of the personality behind the music. The album was written and recorded in Catalonia, Spain (2012-13) and during the harsh winter of 2013-14 in frozen upstate New York, USA. The Le Cliché sound is attained by combining a mix of old and new technologies. In this sense, both analogue and virtual instruments are employed thus obtaining a unique mix of old and new technologies. The LP is presented on high-quality 180gr heavyweight colored white vinyl and features a bonus LP insert.

grandeur et decadence / 7"

Le Syndicat Electronique is the Solo project of A// of Invasion Planete Records from France. This 4-Track-7“EP is a bit darker, than some other records. The music transports feelings and atmospheres of early 80's electro-industrial bands. The sound is a bit monotonous as an assembly line in a factory with some influences of projects and bands like Notstandskomitee and Kraftwerk. In our very personal opinion, this is one of the best LSE releases, we know by now. It spreads some kind of discomfort and what else makes a record good, than activating feelings of the listener ? The record from Berlin´s Disorder Records comes in a limited edition of 300 copies, blue vinyl ! Run to it !!

erring and errant

Artist : Le Travo

erring and errant / LP

Lè Travo is the brainchild of Patrick Bollen from Tienen, Belgium. As a teenager in the early 80's, Patrick would visit DeAtelier, the infamous coldwave/gothic club in Leuven. He would be inspired by Joy Division and other Factory releases, The Danse Society and Cocteau Twins. He gathered a some session musicians and a female backup vocalist. They recorded with live drums, TR-808 drum machine, Roland JX3P synthesizer, electric guitar and bass. Eventually Patrick bought a Greengate DE-3 sampler, using the brains of an Apple 2E with a keyboard bolted onto it. He crafted loops made from a deconstructed upright piano, hitting the strings directly with a drum stick. Lè Travo made their 1st appearance on a split LP with Fred A in 1984. 'Erring And Errant' is their debut 7 song LP originally released in 1985. For the reissue 3 bonus songs from the split LP have been added. The songs are coldwave in the vein of Weimar Gesang, Opera Multi Steel, and Clan of Xymox. Guitar, bass and sample interplay with piano and synthesizers with dark and forbidding crescendos in the fast numbers, and elegaic melancholy in the slow tracks. The vocals are delivered with a sense of urgency, while the lyrics are inspired by avant-garde movements such as futurism and constructivism, as well as science fiction and existentialism. The vinyl comes housed in a glossy jacket with original artwork as well as a fold-out poster with lyrics and photos. Lè Travo is derived from French word 'les travaux', which means : the works, a fitting name for this compilation of lost music from the Belgian underground..

teenage demos / LP

Leæther Strip is the solo-project of Danish electronic industrial artist Claus Larsen. Discovered by the German techno artist and producer Talla 2XLC, Leaether Strip quickly built a buzz as one of the most exciting emerging acts in Europe in the early 90's. 'Teenage Demos' is a collection of Claus Larsen's earliest recordings. 9 demo songs recorded between 1982 and 1986 never before released on vinyl. Influenced by Fad Gadget, Depeche Mode and Jean Michel Jarre, Claus began creating synth-pop melodies at age 14. Though the melodies were catchy and upbeat they had a hidden melancholy because Claus knew that he was different than others. "Dreaming" was his 1st attempt to come out to himself as a queer kid. Lyrically the songs reflected what was going on in his head: youth, hope and dreams. Claus used a simple set up: Moog Prodigy, Yamaha drum machine, delay pedal and spring reverb. He would record the bass and drums on a double cassette recorder, without midi, sequencers or preset sounds. By 1985, Claus composed instrumental songs as the final 3 tracks on this album illustrate. The vinyl comes housed in a glossy jacket with original photograph of a 15-year old Claus as well as an insert with lyrics, photos and an interview. 'Teenage Demos' is a sneak peak into the world of early, emotionally intense foundations of Leæther Strip. Wonderful !!

After some of their tracks have been featured on compilations like 'Darknessbefore Dawn', 'The Almighty Wire', 'Monosynth' and 'Death Disco', they released their 1st 12" vinyl on Fabrika Records in February 2012. The 1st impression emerging from the cover reveals a continuity between the 2nd and the 3rd LP, but 'Tomb For Two' is not just the next set of songs from these 2 modern romantics. Larissa & William are completely devoted to their music, they don't have a home, they don't need one, they tour around the world, getting payed off for their hard work by finding out that there still are some sensitives in a world of hipocricy. Artist : Lebanon Hanover

besides the abyss / LP

Lebanon Hanover are among the most beloved protagonists of Fabrika. This is their 1st studio album and the forth to be released in an extraordinarily creative period of almost 3 years. This album reflects a process of musical maturing and self-knowledge, though inward-looking and intimate, it has no difficulties entering deep into the emotional world of the listener. Dominated by the voice of Larissa Iceglass, which embraces us like an unknown warmth coming straight from the blackest abyss, the elegance of the guitar parts, the sad bass and synthesizer melodies, the poetic tenderness of the lyrics, this album is of a unique hopeful but gloomy romantic. Besides the abyss is gorgeous and timeless. Lebanon Hanover hold the key to our soul as we all walk a path of failures and of heights. Their way of giving new breath to old structures, of expressing a universal emotion, is almost addictive and we consider ourselves lucky not having to live long without their music. The album consists of 10 new recordings. It has been written and performed by Larissa Iceglass & William Maybelline in Athens, may 2013. For the 1st time a guest musician goes with Lebanon Hanover in the studio, playing for the Moor the most sorrow-filled saxophone you've ever heard. Chris Manolitsis is the man behind the production, mixing and mastering, giving the final touch, intensifying these tracks exactly the way he did it in the early 80's. Vinyl comes with a unique album cover, lyrics and a free download code ;)

babes of the 80s

babes of the 80s / 12"

It has been a year since Lebanon Hanover showed us a place 'Besides The Abyss', by releasing on Fabrika their brilliant 4th studio album. As the withdrawal symptoms we feel due to our addiction to this band started to threaten our existence, they return to offer us once again their heart & soul in the form of a 12" maxi-single. Feelings close to misanthropy, disappointment, lack of communication and trust in social and personal relationships are the ingredients of this record, which combined with the most wonderful melodies and the heavenly voices of Larissa and William, evoke a unique tenderness that overshadows the sadness, a power that takes us by the hand and leads us to the dancefloor. And this is the magic power of Lebanon Hanover, a band with a strong message towards/against society, that makes us want to dance to its melancholy. 'The Babes Of The 80s' change both their musical and aesthetical style and LH surprise us once again by showing us a new aspect of their artistic creation. An ideal image of the bands elegance in full color, expressed by the wonderful cover picture of Thomas Amras and the descent to the daily routine on the back cover, are two strongly opposite components, which perfectly visualize the music. And the music itself comes with a unique totally synthesized power towards us, full of emotion, without any bass and guitar parts. And the surprise won't stop. 2 exceptional collaborations are to be found on this record. 2 great artists are remixing the self-titled track offering us another point of view and even more acoustic pleasure. She past away, a beloved band of the Fabrika family, join for the 1st time forces with Lebanon Hanover, in a dark, intimate remix of the "Babes". But also the cult italo-synth artist Tobias Bernstrup contributes with a sensual and extremely danceable mix to this release..

Hollands hip Viewlexx label return with a re-issue of 2 infamous italo tracks from 1982, originally released on Italy’s huge Disco Magic label. "Robot Is Systematic" is already a classic cut, you can hear why as the first vintage synths drop in with a classic analogue vibe, almost hi-nrg but with some brilliant noises from the lead synths, while a female vocal moves from speaking melodies and off to early vocoder effects. Flip for another more solid version that strips away some of the vocal and makes it a straighter euro club tune, crazy stuff from the Viewlexx possee...

poll gorm / 7"

Falling into the sub-genre known as "cold wave", this 7" is an absolutely gorgeous re-interpretation of what 80's goth was. The lyrics are dark. They croon mournfully over minimal guitar and sparse, simple touches of synths and drums. It really sounds like this trio were born of that post-punk scene that spawned such morbid romantics as Siouxsie, Robert Smith and Peter Murphy. Although I've made a lot of references to things already firmly established with worn welcomes, there's something about the warmth of vocals and the minimalism of the guitar that makes it feel like a new take on the old. Whaoh !!

Following up their excellent Wierd Records debut LP 'Dust On Common' & a limited European split-12", Led Er Est return with a new 12"ep, the aptly named 'May', their 2nd release on Captured Tracks. The trio describe the record as a collection of theme-based songs, almost like a dark sci-fi film soundtrack. The songs were written at various points some were written on the long drives over their last European tour. Side A opens with the dancefloor friendly "Lonsome XOXO", a song about a girl obsessed with death, while "Plants" contains a cosmic disco bassline and use of 12-string guitar, showing their influences fall outside the narrow margins of electronic music. This is further evidenced by "Madi La Lune" an ode to British underground songwriter Bill Fay. Side B gets darker and heavier with the apocalyptic sci-fi synth punk opener "Opto 5". This mood continues into "May" and ends with the instrumental brain melter "Drosophilia Melanogaster". Fantastic release !

Cool coldwave LP working within tight parameters but with stylistic agility making for an engagingly dramatic and varied session. Led Er Est emerged from a series of jam sessions that core members Shawn O'Sullivan and Sam De La Rosa started having in early 2007, using bass guitar, some cheap drum machines, and synths. They were inspired to record music largely by 70's synth prog, and 80's lo-fi electronic and industrial music. Here on this LP, they create a thick wall of atmospheric soundscapes using vintage analog recording devices, samplers, and synths using sci-fi soundtracks and cold wave as reference points. Excellent !

Λένα Πλάτωνος (Lena Platonos) is a Greek musician, pianist and music composer. One of the pioneers in the Greek electronic music scene of the 80's, she remains active until today. Lena was born on the island of Crete and grew up in Athens. She began learning how to play the piano at the age of 2 and became a professional pianist before turning 18. Soon afterwards, she received a scholarship and studied in Vienna and Berlin where she was exposed to jazz, rock and Middle Eastern music. She permanently returned to Greece in the late 70's and began working with the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation. Her debut album was released in 1981 and marked a innovative change in Greek music by featuring the strong use of synthesizers, which Platonos had begun to experiment with."Γκάλοπ" ("Gallop") was Lena Platonos' 2nd record that she solely composed, produced and sang. The record was released in 1985 and had a profound effect on the contemporary Greek music scene. "Gallop" was composed in the wake of a painful separation and took several months to complete. Lena says, 'It's a study in the mythology of urban population of the contemporary metropolis and also a gaze into the future life of it'. The album is made exclusively of analog synthesizers and heavily features the iconic Roland TR-808 drum machine. Lena's narrates each song, reciting her own surreal Greek poetry with unique skill. Lyrics deal with heartbreak, dreams, desires and the foresight of society's obsession with computers in our daily lives. "Gallop" is an album ahead of its time and Lena has an exceptional talent for conceiving issues that were to conquer Greek TV screens and newspapers many years later. The jacket is an exact replica of the 1985 edition featuring Lena's original collage. Each copy includes a 2-sided lavender 11"x11" insert with lyrics, photos and liner notes by Lena, filmmaker Antonis Boskoitis and fellow Greek musician Vassilikos. Prepare to become fully enveloped and entranced by this haunting masterpiece ;)

Λένα Πλάτωνος (Lena Platonos) is a Greek musician, pianist and music composer. One of the pioneers of Greek electronic music, she remains active today. Lena was born in Heraklion, Crete, and grew up in Athens. She began learning how to play the piano at the age of 2 and became a professional pianist before turning 18. Soon afterwards, she received a scholarship to study in the the Berlin and Vienna Academies , where she was exposed to jazz, rock and Middle Eastern music. She returned to Greece in the late 70's and began working with the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation. Released in 1984, 'Μάσκες Ηλίου' ('Sun Masks') was Lena Platonos' 1st record to feature her own words and vocals. All instruments were performed by Lena herself. 'Sun Masks' was inspired by Argentine writer, Julio Cortázar as well as the film 'The Wall' by Pink Floyd. "I began to reverse my thought process, to let melodies fade out, to turn to minimalism, to experiment on my Yamaha C60 synthesizer and a variety of 'boxes' which I used to change the sound of my voice as well as the sound of the synthesizer" says Lena. The album featured experiments with different sounds and a new batch of electronic equipment, such as the legendary Roland TR 808 drum machine. Lena narrates each song in deadpan fashion, skillfully reciting her surreal Greek poetry. Her lyrics deal with the futility of love, the gap of human relationships, consumerist alienation in the bourgeois lifestyle of the 80's. The jacket is an exact replica of the 1984 edition, featuring a photograph of Lena wearing sunglasses or 'sun masks'. Each copy includes a 2-sided 11"x11" insert with lyrics in both Greek with English, and liner notes by Lena.

They formed a band, which popped up a few years ago named and now already known as Les Invalides. Because of health restrictions of one of the major members just only a few tracks has been recorded during their 3 year musical periode. After the death of Albert in 1981 the band dissolved and their musical content lost. In 2005, their 1st song, "Borderline Label" was released on the compilation album, "5th Anniversary Compilation Vol.1" by the Berlin based label Das Drehmoment. After that time they have been released on several compilations. This resulted in the development and style they're now playing live and produce: retro 80's synth-pop sound mixed with raw electro tunes. Some call it new-rave, and others electro-pop. A milestone in electronic music is finally receiving its well-deserved re-release Liaisons Dangereuses legendary self-titled debut album still fascinates today, through its innovative sound and the mystery encompassing it. Since its release in 1981, it has become a classic in electronic music. The 10 electrifying songs produced by Chrislo Haas (DAF) and Beate Bartel (Mania D. / Matador) (reinforced by Krishna Goineau's French & Spanish speech-attack-lyrics) created a unique style. The album (anything other than a Berlin or Düsseldorf 'thing') was propelled to an international favourite. Songs such as "Peut Être... Pas" and "Los Niños Del Parque" played a decisive role in the development of Detroit and Chicago's house sound, as well as various forms of European techno. Must-Have!

Already known for an appearance making your blood run cold on the split 7" "Ligne Froide" (the grooves of which were shared with Saison Froide) the members of Ligne d'Hiver are back with this posthumous mini lp. Something else to offer ? That's for sure ! You will be stunned by the different compositions of "Für Immer", notarily the track "Black Monday" already heard on the Leiv Traumas tape released in 1989 on the label Aspect d'une Certaine Industrie. On account of its surprising adaptation, you can't as well fail to respond to "Trouble", a mysterious reinterpretation of "Crime Passionnel" featuring on "Ligne froide" 7". Though at that time "Walls and Bridges" wasn't recognised as such, it's virtually certain that the track will retrospectively become a 80's dancefloor hit, which stands as a unique chance for you to catch back that missed hit ! Let's not forget the mesmerizing "Pourquoi ?" (a track overwhelming you while you're caught by its rhythmics), or the strange "Titihoya" in a Szajner-Ptôse-Illitch's vein. At last the wonderful masterpiece "Deauville", belonging to a rare genre and which had to be included in this "Für Immer" we're pleased to present you. Essential !

This is the 1st 7" vinyl from the French label Brouillard Définitif (specialized in the French cold-wave). Always amazing to hear that this is indeed a genre of its very own, the French bands just had their very own style, their very own atmosphere. Ligne d'Hiver was Loїc d'Hiver and Frédéric Hameury from Rennes, using bass, synth-keyboard and a Boss DR-110, here performing "Tired" and "Crime Passionel (live)", which are incredibly close to Clair Obscur in both musical and vocal performance. Saison Froide is Flav who formed this project in 2001, and here performing "Une Certaine Elégance and "Les Appartements Tristes" with lovely and melodic bass and guitar playing accompanied by sinister vocals and a light drum machine, definitely close to and thus a must-have for fans of Clair Obscur and Opera Multi Steel ! Totally unhinged, not-what-you'd-expect collaboration between Like A Tim and DHR veteran Gina D'Orrio, apparently featuring 9 classic American pop songs from the 50's & 60's re-done mad style. "Bass Girl" can perhaps best be described as a smokey Twin Peaks era Julee Crusie spliced with a plastic 80's sensibility that brings to mind some of the worst nights out I've ever enjoyed. Or perhaps the soundtrack to a classic 80's John Hughes movie reworked by Vangelis. Very very odd but quite interesting. Give it a listen.. ;)

Debut album of contemporary British band Linea Aspera. Linea Aspera is the London duo of Ryan Ambridge (synths/programming) & Alison Lewis (vocals/synths). They began the project in november 2011, technically drawing inspiration from electronic music from the early 80's. Within the duo, Alison writes and performs all vocal elements, while Ryan is responsible for the writing and performing of the electronics, as well as recording and mixing of the final recordings. For their debut album they utilized small, simple analog synthesizer set up: Roland SH-09, Roland Juno 6, Vermona DRM MKiii, Korg Poly 800 and Analogue Solutions Semblance. Linea Aspera's sound includes clear influences from early electronic body music, classic synth-pop and, in some instances, industrial and noise. Lyrically the band incorporates the sciences of osteology, neuroscience, and anthropology weaving a new medical language around themes of desire, despair and renewal. Linea Aspera serve up an icebox of dark doom riding on Alison's powerful vocals with a soft but sharp touch. Each LP is housed in a specially designed jacket by Dovile Shurpo and includes a full sized insert of all lyrics.

remando en el volga / LP

Ramón G. del Pomar wanted to set up a rock band. He played the guitar. He had already got in touch with a bass player, Patricia Álvarez de Lorenzana, but he needed a singer and a keyboard player. He met Mavi Margarida in some night party in Madrid, and he was fascinated by her lips painted in blue, matching her raincoat. "Would you like to sing?" he asked her. Mavi was studying in the school of the dancer Antonio Llopis, "Teatro de la Danza", so she told him "if you want, we can try". Hired. Then Mavi brought in Ricardo Llorca, a piano student in the Real Conservatorio de Música de Madrid. It was in the winter of 1981 when they entered Mario del Castillo's rehearsal premises, with a rented synthesizer, a drum machine Körg, a guitar Gibson (which had belonged to Pete Townshend), a bass Hoffner and a pair of microphones. The cinema producer Francisco Hoyos was in charge of the expenses. The music by Línea Vienesa lies in so many poles that the links would be too long. We just have to focus on the use of the drum machine, its walks on the Renaissance music which, from time to time, is sung in German (although it is not very understandable) and which is, in the end, music made to entertain as well as to listen to it carefully. The group was not created according to a specific concept. Songs began to arise spontaneously: a guitar riff here, a synthetizer melody there, now a syncopated rhythm and a powerful bass. Many hours of rehearsal. A poem by a friend who was musicalizing, a song compounded in the car during a traffic jam, a modernized “copla” in their parents' home piano, and an interest towards the aesthetics that all of them shared. Up to that moment, any Spanish music group had not used a drum machine to play pop. And that was the 1st Spanish group out of the commercial circuits which all the national written press echoed. What is amazing in Línea Vienesa is, in the 1st place, how clear they have their purpose. The work done and the drum machine have had good results, the compositions have a strange consistency and they are able to lead everything to the best port. 250 copies edition containing 10 pages handmade fanzine + 2 postcards. Really nice gem ;)

Liquid G. (Liquid Garbage) is the one-man project of EBM stalwart Peter van Bogaert from Melsele, Belgium. In 1987 he began to record music and self-release limited cassettes on his own label Liquid Produkts. Between 1987 & 1990, Peter composed over 9 albums, in addition to a split release with Vomito Negro. Liquid G. made their 1st vinyl appearance on the 'Expo 87' 7" compilation, courtesy of Dirk Ivens' Body Records. 'Liquidation' is the 1st ever vinyl compilation of Liquid G.'s cassette recordings, taking you on a journey through the underground of the Belgian electro industrial scene. Each song was written, produced, recorded and performed solely by Peter between 1987 & 1989. Liquid G. captures the DiY synth-punk ethos of Cabaret Voltaire, The Screamers and Nervous Gender. 6 of the 11 songs on the album are instrumentals, and full of disturbing drum machines, stratified synthesizers and deep distorted bass-lines. The jacket is a custom made black and white collage by Gwenaël Rattke, capturing the bleak attitude of the music. Each album includes a double¬sided insert featuring the original artwork of the cassettes and lyrics !

mask rewind / LP+7"

Lisfrank was an obscure one-man project from Italy. The first and only Lisfrank stand-alone release was the 12" ep "Man Mask" (1982), definitely one of the best and rarest early 80's minimal electro 12"s ever and on top of most want lists ever since, including the super hit "It's Life", as well as "Violence in my Mind". This lp captures the majority of available recordings from 1980 onwards. Lisfrank's music is completely analogue electronics with drum machine (or real drums on two tracks), very unique and each a track a classic of its own kind. The early tracks until 1983 are rough and dark, and form the 12" album together with similar early composed but later recorded tracks thus creating an overall and coherent dark atmosphere throughout the whole album. As the 1984-85 tracks "Stay With Me" and "My Toy" were more pop-oriented they didn't perfectly fit to the album's atmosphere and were thus put onto the accompanying 7". Lisfrank's lyrics are very dark and full of despair, dealing with personal fears, self-perception and the problems arising from this and other human interactions, or other topics like ecological pollution. All in all, this release is maybe one of the most important and interesting albums coming out of Italy, made by an intelligent person and great composer who is now occasionally recording again. Limited to 500 beautiful copies...

past and future / LP

Little Nemo was born in 1983 as the result of the musical encounter between Olivier Champeau and Vincent Gallo in the Paris area. The name stems from Windsor McCay's comic strip, dating back to the early 20th century and telling the oniric adventures of a little boy during his sleep. That sets the tone for the many arty references in the group's history. The duet asserts this psychedelic ascent while quoting Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd as their influence. Their music mixing keyboards (mainly Olivier), a drum machine and guitar/bass by Vincent is influenced by the new-wave of Cure and Joy Division, as well as by the French groups Taxi Girl and Marquis de Sade. 'Past And Future' was originally self-produced and self-distributed by the band on his own label Artefact, as a limited edition of 500 cassettes, released in june 1987. It was sold out in a few months. The tape is meant to be conceptual. It features on the 'Past' side a song about the passing of time ("A Day Out Of Time"), the sung adaptation of the poem by Baudelaire "A Une Passante", "Empty House" the story of a haunted house in the style of Edgar Allan Poe, "Old Age" about the loneliness of old age and ends with a waltzing version of "La Balade Des Pendus" from Villon. All this reminds of the 19th century. The 'Future' side begins with "Seconds", referring to the clock counting down to the year 2000 set up at the Beaubourg Center in Paris. The time theme comes up again on "Counter-Clock World", followed by a song about the TV series of the 60's "The Prisoner", "Be Seeing You" with an organ sound reminding of the Stranglers. It ends with "Future is now" and is artificially linked by the character of Alan who appears in several songs. Musically, this album features addictive songs and already defines the trademarks of each musician, the most synthetic and energetic titles for Olivier, Vincent revealing his taste for ternary rhythms, the piano and cursed French poets. Little Nemo already shows a marked personality. In 1989, the band was signed under licence to New Rose for the LP 'Sounds In The Attic' (on Lively Art sublabel), after New Rose had distributed the self-produced ep 'Private Life' in 1988. In 1990, New Rose reissued 'Past & Future' on cassette, and another 500 copies were sold. Out on vinyl for the very 1st time, with hand-printed letterpress. Edition of 500 units..

Lives of Angels was the brainchild of Gerald O'Connell from London, England. At the end of the 70's, O'Connell had been working on material for Mystery Plane, a band that included his wife Catherine on keyboards and backing vocals. In 1980 the pair of them left to form Lives Of Angels and focus on O'Connell's own songs, which he felt were more oblique, atmospheric and evocative than the narrative style and social commentary of Mystery Plane. The result sounds both of its time, comfortably nestling under the gloomy clouds of British post-punk and goth, and oddly out of time; its homemade quality placing it outside of obvious chronological signifiers as the motorik riffs and spartan drum patterns loop over and over to infinity. O'Connell was unimpressed by the musical offerings of the early 80's (with the exception of New Order, Cocteau Twins and Depeche Mode, he notes), instead drawing from San Francisco psychedelia, Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, Congolese guitarist Dr. Nico and the full pantheon of krautrock (especially Amon Düül II, whose song 'Archangels Thunderbird' contains the line, "there is no elevator to Eden but a hole in the sky"). Keyboards and some vocals were provided by Catherine, who also acted as editor, making changes to the arrangements or pointing out inappropriate drum patterns (hence her credit in the sleeve notes as "percussion censor"). 'Elevator To Eden' was originally released in 1983 on cassette by Color Disc and reissued on vinyl in 2012 on Dark Entries, in slightly condensed form. 'Hole In The Sky' is an 11-track compilation of material from the Lives of Angels archives. Including 2 tracks from the original 'Elevator To Eden' cassette omitted from our vinyl reissue, 2 tracks from Color Disc compilations and 7 previously unreleased tracks. This compilation features the very earliest Lives of Angels recordings "Call Moscow" and "Somebody Else" as well as the final composition from 1986 "The Infinite Corridor" plus original mixes of "After Dark" and "Look Out Kid" different than the versions on the 'Color Supplement' compilation. 'Hole In The Sky' is an impressive example of early 80's home recording; a DiY interpretation of the elegance and ambition of the previous decade's krautrock. Each copy comes in custom made jacket designed by Eloise Leigh and includes an 11x11 double-sided insert with liner notes, lyrics and photos. "You have no idea how rewarding it is that people are interested in what we did all those years ago", says O'Connell. "Catherine had a very happy time doing all that stuff, it was brilliant, and I felt that it was a success artistically. It deserved more attention. Better late than never".

nomon / schoen / 7"

Philadelphia based Ian Pullman and Clay Emerson have put together a pretty tight 2 track 7" in "Nomon / Schoen". "Schoen" rolls quickly into a layer of nimble rhythm and dark, electrical moans. The rhythm drops out for a breathy throat rumble or two, cutting back in heartrending synth sweeps and resolute bassline. On the B-Side, "Nomon" is a little more laid back : a soft, bassy, bleepy techno arrangement that brings the synth in and out to a dramatic crescendo, a track much in the vein of the beated ambience on Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works II". Really tasty !

flamingo boots / 12"

Looky Looky is the new project from Jeffrey Sfire and Ian Clark, both residing in Detroit, Michigan. The pair met in the late 90's when Ian was performing as one half of Le Car with Adam Miller of ADULT. Ian also recorded under the moniker Perspects, and released on Clone, Ersatz Audio and Interdimensional Transmissions. Jeffrey has released a series of singles and remix ep's with Samuel Long as Sfire on CockTail D'Amore Music and Ultramajic. The duo released their 8-track debut album 'Part Flamingo' in 2016. All 8 tracks represent one body of work but are presented as 2 distinct concept ep's: 'Part Flamingo' and 'Nurse Coven'. They're loose, fun pastiches of 80's movie soundtracks with accompanying imagery. For the 'Flamingo Boots' ep we chose 4 songs from the album which the pair extended for maxi 12" throbbing dance mixes. Looky Looky describe the project as equal parts light and dark, a contemporary recasting of italo, Hi-Nrg and electro. The songs infuse bright 80's sonic textures with a seedy, sweaty thump. The Motor city duo is about a year into the project, but is already known for their hardware-heavy live set after playing the Honcho Summer Campout last year and the 2017 edition of Gays Hate Techno in northern California. Each jacket features a collage by Chicago-based artist Nicole Ginelli of a Nagel-esque face with a mauve/grey color scheme with fuchsia and green accents. Also included is a postcard with notes and a photo of the duo.

This crafty and tack sharp San Francisco art wave unit veer from Null And Void and Christian Lunch like damaged synthy post punk to the askew femme vox new wave peppiness of The B-52's, Family Fodder and The Waitresses, though there's enough zippy synth and rhythm box bits littered throughout to qualify this as being at least tangentially minimal synth as well. life after breakfast / LP+CD

Los Microwaves was a San Francisco-based synth-punk trio who formed in 1979. The main line-up included Meg Brazill (vocals, bass, synthesizers), David Javelosa (vocals, synthesizers), and Todd 'Rosa' Rosencrans (drums, bass). Their recorded output consisted of a handful of 45's and their lone LP, 'Life After Breakfast', released on the legendary Posh Boy records in 1981. Creating sound and music from the fusion of techno-punk, new-wave pop, and electronic music, Los Microwaves featured a quirky audio theater that was best experienced live and from the dance floor. Sporting a combination of earlier portable synthesizers, bass and processed percussion, the music continues to deliver a unique groove. 'Life After Breakfast' contains 13 songs full of teen angst, jerky rhythms, melodic chants, and punky shouts. Meg's vocals are cheeky and peppy, recalling the anti-pop sound of The B-52's, Devo and early XTC. The band also sings in Spanish occasionally, making them San Francisco's 1st bilingual nuevo wave group. Los Microwaves toured coast to coast for 3 years. Upon moving to New York City, Interview Magazine's Glenn O'Brien wrote that they were 'possibly the greatest rock band ever'. After 2 more national tours, the band played their last show at New York's Danceteria in March 1983. The vinyl comes housed in the original jacket featuring iconic photo by Jack Abraham. Each LP includes a 12-page booklet with lyrics, photos, liner notes, and clippings. Also included is a full length DVD featuring a 15-song Los Microwaves concert from 1981, recorded at the I-Beam in San Francisco, as well as in interview with the band and the official music video for 'Life After Breakfast'. More than 30 years after its release, we can finally answer the question: yes there is there life after breakfast ;)

no visible means / LP

Originally self-released in 1984 on Pterodactyl Records, 'No Visible Means' is the work of Canada's own Lou Champagne. Lou Champagne was active the Ontario music scene and also performed with other local musicians from that region as well. The Lou Champagne System was the real-time guitar synth solo act of Lou Champagne. Due to his knowledge of electronics, he was able to link his guitar, synth, and synthetic drums into a working one-man solo act that was playable with floor switches and pedals. The overall effect was the sound of a full band. 'No Visible Means' was recorded in 1981-82 and mixed in 1983. It consists of 9 works of unrelenting sonic bliss. The music can be described as synth-heavy, textural punk with a very diverse palette of styles drizzled in for a truly unique listening experience. "Don't Say I'm Here" opens the album with a bang showcasing Lo'’s angular guitar effects and emotionally powered vocals. "Propaganda Frustration" is a thick, modulated affair with overtones of minimal disco and motorik motifs that commands attention on the dark dancefloor. "Machine Muzik" is a standout track with effects-laden jagged guitar hooks drenched in a haze of electronics. From beginning to end, 'No Visible Means' is a synth-punk masterpiece and will surely appeal to connoisseurs of the darker, synth-based outer limits of post-punk and jagged guitar-heavy new-wave. Available in the past only in limited quantities from Mr Champagne himself, 'No Visible Means' has been long out of print. This official reissue includes original 'nuclear circuit map' as an additional insert (with lyrics on flipside of insert). Presented on high quality 180gr. white vinyl in a limited edition of 1000 hand-numbered copies. HUGE !!
