ruins / trying times / 7"

Newclear Waves is Alessandro Adriani from Rome, Italy, and Opus Finis is Ramiro Jeancarlo (synths, composition) and Carlos E. Oni (lyrics, vocals) from Miami, USA, joining forces on Mannequin’s third but first vinyl release. Both projects work with analog machines only, with a Korg KR-55 drum machine triggering directly the bass synth. A-Side “Ruins” is pretty monotone with no change at all in the bass note, but as Alessandro once put it, he’s making minimal electronic music, hehe, alrighty then ! Anyway, there is a cold voice as from some industrial / hard electro bands and some brighter tones here and there, too. The KR-55 pattern lets memories to Snowy Red arise, but Alessandro is a bit more dark and nihilistic. Opus Finis present “Trying Times” which is a bit more versatile and playful. Pretty cool track similar to way Martial Canterel works. Nice release limited to 300 copies...

split / 12"

Freely inspired split album between Frank (just Frank) and Soviet Soviet, which gathers materials from 2 original musical personalities who made a name into vintage cold-wave synthesised sonic excursions, post-punk’s freaked out damaged epics. The A-Side of the split is devoted to the ultra-minimal electro chilled out rhythm spaces of the French based band Frank (just Frank). Each track involves into electronic pop music territories, providing a solid mixture between pretty much metronomic-icy repetition, efficient catchy melodies for semi-goth like guitar and pleasantly pop-ish vocals. A delicate melancholic-moody atmosphere is floating upon the compositions. The B-Side offers the post-punk agitated songs of Soviet Soviet, from Italy, based on raw-nervous guitars and utterly nihilistic ambiences, bringing the post-punk genre to its limits, sometimes overflowing on epic convoluted dark wave epics. Ignoring timestamps and geographic restrictions, SS assimilate the explosive retro sounds of the UK and Italian 80's (Killing Joke, Wire, C.C.C.P.), assembling a specimen uniquely theirs; from the frenetic opening gallop to the frayed-string finish. faded heart / LP

1st full-lenght vinyl of Mushy, the stage name of Valentina F., 26 years old sound-experimentalist rising from the dusty ruins of Rome, making music all by her lonesome since the year 2003. Mushy unveils here her double sided synth-wave and kraut-psychedelic soul, being deeply influenced by the works of Cocteau Twins, Minimal Compact, ect.. 'Faded Heart' is able to produce soundscapes which open the listenerʼs doors to strangely nigthmarish illuminated "nocturnal sacrality". The sound architecture reveals a charming world, made by the mixture of analog drum machines loops and an effect-processed bad off acoustic guitar found in a flea market with only 4 strings, burgeoning cold drones, tempestuous noises, spectral chants which rise at the surface. For the lo-fi atmospheres and the tales of lost loves, 'Faded Heart' might be considered the italian answer to the magnificient Zola Jesus release "The Spoils" on Sacred Bones. Home-recorded, 'Faded Heart' was lately mixed and processed at Mannequin studio with a full analog setup. Incredible !!

After an acclaimed tour opening for Nitzer Ebb in North America and a prolific production for Desire Records, //TENSE// is back in their creepy studio and the result is a constellation of brooding synth bass lines, pounding electronic drum pad sounds, movie samples and distorted vocals that sound pitch perfect underneath all of the madness. To have an accurate idea of what we are talking about, imagine that Snake Plissken never escaped New York and he started an EBM band with The Duke. Then, you are almost close to. //TENSE// are definitely bringing back to life the earlier days of EBM, in a funky-industrial mixture that is so close to the shiny mid 80's period of Cabaret Voltaire or earlier Ministry, think early Wax Trax-era US industrial crossed with the more minimal European wave sound. High in demand re-release of both LP's "Multiple Choice" from 1980 & "Regular Guys" from 1985, plus the 2 singles on 7" "Saturday Night / Sunday Morning" & "A Circuit Like Me" from this legendary minimal synth band from Australia. The group was an integral part of the early electronic music scene in Australia and their releases have become a collector’s item in Europe, as they are mostly impossibile to find. The Metronomes first appeared in Melbourne in 1979. Their 1st 7" single "Saturday Night / Sunday Morning" came out in 1980, featuring a real metronome as rhythm section with instrumentals layered over, instead the second "A Circuit Like Me / Closed Circuit" from 1980 is addice more to experimentation with drum machines, rhytm sections for both sides were recorded using a borrowed Roland CR 78. It was the first time in their compositions that a vocal had been used, courtesy of a lady called Talking Judy. The 1st Lp 'Multiple Choice' was recorded in the winter of 1980, using Roland Strings, a mini-Korg, some Arp synthesizers and a Boss Dr-55, a drum machine that was intensivly used by many minimal synth bands during the 80's and by legendary bands like Sisters of Mercy or New Order in their first songs. The 2nd album 'Regular Guys', published in 1985, was recorded after a break in which all the members various lives and careers took left and right hand turns, surely more premeditated, as most of the songs arrived in studio already written. Each writer had creative contro lover their respective songs, a long-standing. Limited to 500 copies !!

Sixth June started their musical adventure back in 2007 and in their tracks you can let your heart listen their deep influence for everything that has a synthesizer sound and found its origin in the 80's. The duo represents perfectly the 2 sides of the same coin, in fact while Laslo is producing obscure but expressive, powerful and danceable textures, on the back side the voice of Lidija is living the shape to a wobbling atmosphere you won't escape from. 2nd volume of the much acclaimed italian new-wave Italian compilation. "Danza Meccanica" is the latest, unmissable chapter in the story of Italian post-punk (the less traditionally rock branch). It outlines the approach taken by 10 more or less unknown groups who all deserve rediscovery and to be remembered alongside luckier outfits. 10 tracks that spell out the manifesto of a scene fascinated by electronic innovation, a scene that used the sounds coming out of English labels like Factory, 4AD and Mute as a reference point. The grey atmospheres and raincoats of a still-divided Berlin, and those of Manchester, which along with Sheffield produced sounds destined to inspire future generations of musicians and producers. Artist : Tropic Of Cancer

permissions of love / 12"

New 12" from Tropic Of Cancer, one the most important realities in the modern post-punk and darkwave scene. Essentially the solo project of LA-based Camella Lobo, with contributions from John Mendez (aka Sandwell District's Silent Servant) and Taylor Burch (DVA Damas) and after 2 sold-out releases on labels Blackest Ever Black and Downwards, Tropic Of Cancer have stoked their slow burning reputation into the makings of what is being referred to as a 'modern classic'. Though Tropic Of Cancer's sound has been called gothic, cold-wave and drone pop, the band's take on their influences is anything but nostalgic. Lobo & Mendez have managed to imbue their own elusive gaze and craft a strangely beautiful and intoxicating sound in the wake of their predecessors. The 3 tracks on this new 12" take us gently by the hand into a slowed-down opium dream - it's like watching the desert from the same stark corners where Lyciastood many years ago. This ep gathers the primal thrust of their bleak post-punk (think about Cultural Decay shaking hands with Section 25 in their psychedelic/buddhist years) and Minimal Wave aesthetics with this entirely new dimension in the music of TOC – heartfelt and deep. Cold waves have never been so warm. Limited edition of 500 copies ;)

After the 1st live appareances as opening act to bands like Spandau Ballet and Monochrome Set in their Italian tours, Central Unit published in march 1982, this 12"ep with 4 tracks, including a cover of "What Use?" from Tuxedomoon. The ep 1st entered Belgian and German charts with the single "Saturday Nite", thanks to its skeletal electronic beats and minimal synth atmospheres, combined with mechanical basslines and relentless bass guitar meanderings, with slothy saxophone murmurs peeping out here and there. crimes on the dancefloor / LP

After almost 30 years, here is one of the best electronic cold-wave bands from Italy, already included in the much acclaimed 'Danza Meccanica - Italian Synth Wave 1982-1987' compilation. Janitor Of Lunacy were an Italian new-wave electronic band, active in Brescia from 1981 to 1986, composed by Kovre, Claudio Asserini and Gabriele Farina. With this line up, they produced a demo tape in 1983 entitled 'Crimes On The Dancefloor', which was very well reviewed by the Italian music press. Thanks to such great feedbacks, the band was choosed for various compilation of the era, including VM, Komakino and Magnetique, playing many live shows in historic clubs like Xenon in Florence or Odissea 2001 in Milano, sharing the stage with Weimar Gesang and some others Supporti Fonografici related bands. In 1986 they entered in studio for recording their 1st full-lenght for this label, album publicized by various magazine but that never saw the light of the day, due to artistic divergences. The band broke up shortly after! Tip ;)

sighing melodies thru the graves / LP

New LP release from Heinrich Dressel (aka Valerio Lombardozzi), the italian producer and mind of one of the best techno-electro labels around, MinimalRome. After some marvellous releases on Legowelt's Strange Life and MinimalRome, Heinrich Dressel is finally celebrating the use of vintage synthesizers and driven electronic machines, holding elements of electro and ambient at the same time, but breaking from the genres too, deeply inspired by Heinrich Dressel, the pioneering German archeologist sent to study in the holy city in Monte Testaccio, who drew what is now a major tool for study of Roman amphorae, the 'Table of Dressel'. Heinrich Dressel is placed in a sort of limbo where John Carpenter meets Drexciya, a sonorous journey through the darker side of the electro, taking the commands of the Elka synthex, one of the most impressive polysynths in the history of music, planned and manufactured by Mario Maggi in the early 80's. Musically speaking, 'Sighing Melodies Thru The Graves' can be described as a captivating hybrid of styles, mixing the chilling-menacing mood of the 70's-80's lo-fi funkadelic horror soundtracks to outerspace synthesised soundscapes in a pure classy vein. This is cryptical-kosmische psychedelica with a nice electro retro touch and avant-minimalist vibes. An important contribution and a propulsive cinematic affair. Reissue of one of the top minimal synth Holy Grails out of there. 'Tanzmusik' is the 1st LP from Sam Rosenthal, boss of the historic Projekt Records label and mind of one of the most influential darkwave acts coming out of the US, Black Tape For A Blue Girl. Originally released in March 1985 and completely recorded at home on a 4-track TEAC-2340 with a super minimal setup (Korg Poly 61, Realistic Moog, Boss Dr-110 and some effects), the vinyl release was limited to 250 copies, with a tanish card glued to a white LP jacket. The album continues in the electronic mood-music tradition established by Sam on the Projekt Electronic Amerika cassettes, with the added intriques of the drum-computer, exploring the realms of electronic music that the critics have compared to Tangerine Dream, O.M.D. and Brian Eno. Black Tape for a Blue Girl, begin in 1986 after his move from Florida to California, serves as a vehicle for Rosenthal's musical vision. Its signature combination of gothic, ethereal, ambient and neo-classical elements has explored existential themes of loves lost and passions yet to come. After his early electronic work represented on 'Tanzmusik', his music has grown into a full-fledged band, whose members revolve around Rosenthal's subtle electronic foundation. In 1996, Rosenthal released his debut novel, 'The First Pain To Linger', which sold 10,000 self-released copies. In 2011, Rosenthal began work on his 2nd book, 'Rye', an erotic novel which will be self-published in the fall of 2012. Standard vinyl release limited to 500 copies..

'Summer, Jesus' is a marvel of post-punk more than goth rock; if the catchy rhythmics evoke The Chameleons, a light halo of freshness move them closer to Joy Division's debuts whithout copying them. We also feel the musicians on a wide musical horizon that lead them to alternate passages felt in the limits of punk, of brief moments of shoegaze guitar, blazing attacks, and a light touch of coolness but never totally disembodied seen the sincerity of the singing which puts a lot into the atmosphere of the pieces. no songs tomorrow / LP

One of the best UK new-wave reissue from the 80's. UV PØP were an early 80's post-punk group from the South Yorkshire region of England. Their sound was regionally bleak and they used staccato, angular guitars lines, with vocals ranged from spoken repeated mantras to whispered and shouted political poetics. An excerpt from the album's liner notes penned by JP Shea helps explain the political climate during which this album was recorded: "In the 80's there was nothing to smile about; nothing to smile for. The person whom some called wrongly the iron lady brought vengeful spiteful selfishness and a narrow-minded out- look into all our lives. Instead of love and respect there was: a 3-day week, Miners strike, and The Falklands War. The sound of UV PØP has always been a sophisticated blend of sadness; with morose North Country sense and a humorous confrontational sensibility. So, you might ask why 'No Songs Tomorrow'? There is the answer. UV PØP and John White were as certain as anybody there was a strong possibility there might not be anything left with which to make a tomorrow.. The fight back, the resistance came in the miners' strike, on the streets of north Ireland and in the sovereignty of popular culture. And, there was plenty of that in Yorkshire and particularly in the southernmost parts of that region. Working class poets had not all died with the Victorians. The Rough Trade charts for one week in 1982 tell a very interesting story. Alongside acts of the caliber of Sisters of Mercy, Robert Wyatt, Sex Gang Children and Virgin Prunes are UV PØP, their place well-earned." Here is the reissue of their classic 1981 album..

breathless / LP

On 'Breathless' Italian artist Mushy takes the blueprint laid down on her debut 'Faded Heart' and blows it up to an analogue hd, a deep, evocative and immersive listening experience that cocoons the listener in sensory loss and ecstasy simultaneously. On 'Breathless' there's a sharper focus on the sound and textures of her craft. Legendary 4AD artists A R Kane feature on her single "My Life So Far", and indeed it's that label and much of the satellite work in the mid 80's that most informs 'Breathless'. While more understated than the likes of Liz Fraser or Zola Jesus, Mushy's vocals are ghostly, expressionistic and suggestive of a netherland just beyond the realms of dream. On tracks like opener "To Be Lost" there's a mournful, glacial shift of swooping synths and bass emphasising the lyrics' drift. The singular atmosphere pervades the whole record, never letting go, and on tracks like "Night Dress" it descends into a darker, lurking place rich in imagery. Elsewhere the precise snap of vintage electronics pushes and pull the listener into a hypnotised state that far surpasses Mushy's previous work. One of the best album of 2012, here on grey vynil repress!

my life so far / 12"

Shoegaze pioneer A.R. Kane makes a rare appearance on this compelling single from Valentina Fanigliulo's 'Breathless' album as Mushy for Milan's Mannequin. The melancholic beauty of "My Life So Far" appears in ghostly album and dub versions, sanguine vocals suspended in metallic guitar tendrils above a shy, recoiling bassline and mournful chorus of synth pads rendered in blissful misery. But the most haunting mix features the plangent touch of Rudy Tambala aka A.R. Kane, who suffuses an icy layer of crystallising electronics and chiffon guitar billows around Mushy's gorgeously opiated glossolalia and that heart-sinking bass. Exclusive to the B-side of this 12" and not on her 'Breathless' LP, "Phantom Love" offers a frosted instrumental parting with cold warehouse reverbs on code-murmuring machine rhythms and elegant pads recalling classic John Carpenter or Chris Carter. A seriously strong record limited to 300 copies, highly recommended ;)

the end of civilization / LP

Catching the same spirit of labels such as Factory Records / 4AD, the Italian synth wave princess Mushy was asked to create a compilation starting from a tabula rasa. The mission was hard. Following her tastes and heart, she had to select a dozen of new bands from all over the world with unreleased and unique for this project tracks, picking up the title and realizing the graphic design and artwork. The full process of 'The End Of Civilization' took almost 1 year but the result was touching us deep into our soul. Mushy began her career crafting noise bursts and aggressive oblique instrumentals before, in her newest form, blooming into a beautiful, epic and heart-heavy icy synth sound, having both 'Faded Heart' (2011) and 'Breathless' (2012) as album of the week at Rough Trade. 'The End Of Civilization' perfectly represents her double sided synth-wave / kraut-psychedelic soul. Every track she selected for us is an absolute highlight, moving from the analog minimal / cold wave sounds of Police Des Moeurs, ASSS, The Circa Tapes, TEEEL and Rosemary to the tempestuous post punk and psychedelia of Deathday, The Murder Act, Phosphor and The Strange Forces, ending with spectral cold folk of Tablets and The Long Wives. the temple of the 13th tribe / LP

The Royal Family & The Poor is the nomenclature adopted by Mike Keane, who recorded for Factory Records between 1980 and 1986. 'The Project Phase 1 - The Temple Of The 13th Tribe', released in 1984 was produced in Manchester by Joy Divison and New Order bassist Peter Hook. Featuring the violinist John Neesham (of Walking Seeds and Mel-o-Tones) and the keyboard player Lita Hira from labelmates Stockholm Monsters, the album was done only after plenty of ups and downs in Keane's own life as well as numerous personnel shifts and incarnations, but the end results were a sometimes delicate and often enthralling combination. The combination of TR 808 and other drums, reverbed vocals, and aural mystery is all permeated by Keane's interest in the occult, while Hook's technological know-how adds a sharp rhythmic punch to tracks such as "Dark And Light", "Radio Egypt" and "Discipline". Other tracks include one of Mike Keane's best known songs, the affecting ballad "I Love You (Restrained In A Moment)", and the sinister, vocodered "Motherland". Perhaps the most misunderstood band to record for Factory Records, The Royal Family and The Poor remain for many an (oc)cult enigma, releasing only 4 albums in 2 decades, and rarely performing live after 1984. A lost classic, highly recommended for fans of Joy Division, New Order, Section 25, Durutti Column, Death In June. 1st vinyl reissue for the 30th year anniversary. age / LP

Crown jewel of the early 80's Italian minimal-synth scene. The Monuments came into being in january 1981 in Turin when Mauro Tavella (keyboards, programming) and Andrea Costa (keyboards, voice) pooled their artistic experiences. From the outset they produced exclusively synthesised music, following the natural evolution in electronic music from the early days with monophonic synthesisers to the latest virtual sounds generated with the aid of computers. The Monuments released in 1984 their only official record on Discordie, a mini-LP called 'Age' comprising 6 incredibly fantastic electro-pop tracks, here reissued by Mannequin Records with 2 bonus tracks, "Veiled Lady" and "The Seals", which are out-takes from the same period. All the tracks were recorded on a Tascam 8-tracks, with external synchronisation of the percussions, at the TKS Studio in Torino. From 1987 onwards, they focused exclusively on music for theatre, radio and independent film, writing scores for the opening sequences of programmes for some of the most important Italian tv companies as well as soundtracks for documentaries. Anna Logue Records released the 'XXVII' CD in 2009, an anthology of their music that contains the best of their early work from the years 1981-84. Some critics thought of this mini LP as being the best electro-pop record ever coming out of Italy. A masterpiece limited to 300 copies on black vinyl..!

Musumeci was one of the most rare and unknown Italian minimal-synth bands from the 80's. They formed in Turin at the beginning of 1985, from an idea of Mauro M. (synthesizers, ex-guitar player of Rude Pravo) and Franco G. (programming, ex-noise maker of Errata-S-Corrige). The group was founded as a link and expression of various experiences, aimed, at least initially, to highlight the individual personalities of the members. The formation settles after 6 months of testing with the final entry of Laura G. (ex-keyboardist of Rude Pravo) and Paul C. (voice of K Position). Musumeci were playing several shows, preceded by long monologues in which find space rumorism, electrical scans, voices, screams, etc. Presented here are the 2 super rare demo tapes that Musumeci recorded in 1985 ('Schwarz Morgen') and in 1986 ('Zusammen'), on their own label Zeltweg. untitled / LP

Police Des Moeurs is a minimal synth-pop band formed in Montreal in 2010 and they give the francophone perspective on what Black Marble, Lust For Youth and Cold Showers did in English in 2012, as well as fitting in with the output of Lescop. Their debut full-length, after some quicky old out singles, is permeated by a cold, melodic and nostalgic music for broken hearts and dark minds. Police Des Moeurs is the soundtrack for the nuclear night, a transition moment between the end of utopia and the final ecological disaster. The world after the future. Police Des Moeurs main influences and interests are underground aestheticisms (1979-1981), industrial transformations and the process of electrification, norms and deviance, nuclear and environmental anxiety as well as paranoia, secret agents, spies and political extremists. Serbian duo Sixth June (aka Laszlo Antal & Lidija Andonov) come with a fresh new 5 tracks 12"ep 'Pleasure'. They play minimal, industrial synthesized music, digging into the colder corners of the synthetic 80's for inspiration (Gary Numan, John Foxx, Depeche Mode). Sixth June started their musical adventure back in 2007 and they are considered as one of the purest talents in the minimal synth new scene. Rising from the obscure music scene in Belgrade, they re-based some years ago in the analog synthesizers paradise called Berlin. Their debut album, 'Everytime' released back in march 2010 by the German label Genetic Music and the previous ep on Mannequin, 'Back For A Day' were bringing the band to play to most of Europe. The duo represents perfectly the 2 sides of the same coin, in fact while Laszlo is producing obscure but expressive, powerful and danceable textures, on the back side the voice of Lidija is living the shape to a wobbling atmosphere you won't escape from. no future / 12"

Deathday (formerly Deathday Party) is a Los Angeles based experimental post-punk band, formed in Santa Ana, California in 2008 by brothers Alex Guillén & Giovanni Guillén. Previous incarnations of the group can be traced back to Santa Ana's Koo's scene of the late 90's. While the title-track is an unreleased one, instead "Dropped Into Obscurity" was already included in the Downwards compilation 'Click Heels' alongside with Tropic Of Cancer, Silent Servant, The KVB. On the B side Mannequin asked to the synth-master Legowelt to remix "After Dark". Seldom has the post-punk revival seemed as urgent as with Deathday, who match their guitar driven dirges with esoteric industrial soundscapes and tape manipulation. Their music is often as bleak as it is violent, with low end cacophony bludgeoning the listener into submission. Lyrically, Deathday often invoke the violent culture hidden beneath the media, as well as explore the crippling aftershocks of isolation and the mysticism of the occult. Comparisons, for those who prefer them, could easily be made to the likes of Throbbing Gristle and Suicide's uncompromising attitude and primal infrastructure, but the band has equal roots in forgotten post-punk favorites such as Nagamatzu, Venus In Furs, and Joy Of Life, creating a powerful hybrid exploring the darkest and most hypnotic corners of the spectrum..

Musumeci tapes reissue, with their brutal body music plus, similar to DAF, CHBB and Liaisons Dangereuses, was one of the most acclaimed in the Mannequin Records 2013 productions. Here is 3 more recordings from their discography, all recorded live in 1985. Mauro Massaglia, founder member and lead synthesizer, describes the band's aesthetic as 'simple music, no solos, new sounds, all played at maximum volume possible'. Something that surely catch the attention of best Djs on earth, starting from TRAXX, the Chicago-based head of Nation Records, who redesign for Mannequin Records a raw live version of "Tag Fur Tag" with what he described as a 'ugly-tape Kode'. Massaglia recalls Musumeci's live shows as multimedia performances of a confrontational stripe, mixing rough sound collage with provocative visuals. The intention was to involve the viewer with 2 senses: ear and eye. Limited edition of 250 copies on red vinyl.

sub rosa / LP

Void Vision is a Philadelphia-based electronic project helmed by Shari Vari. Shari Vari formed Void Vision in 2009 originally as a duo, during the explosion of the new minimal synth and coldwave scene in United States. Sharing the same scene of the Wierd Records associates like Led Er Est, Martial Canterel, Xeno & Oaklander, Automelodi, in 2010 VV released 'In Twenty Years' on Blind Prophet (Sean Ragon's Cult Of Youth record label), receiving also the attention of the Rough Trade dudes, who asked to put out a track for one of their synth wave compilations. After other split vinyls, tapes and compilations, Mannequin approached Shari with the intention to continue what Wierd Records started, giving a proper shape to her beautiful and youthful dark electronic sound. The result is 10 hypnotic cold analog tracks dominated by the warm and fragile Shari's voice, some more "pop orientated" some others belonging to the original "cold wave" atmosphere. 'Sub Rosa' is an edition of 400 copies on 160gr black vinyl !

exploded view / LP

Reissue of one of the most important Dutch wave bands The Actor, with their seminal 1982 tape 'Exploded View'. "In the beginning of the 80's, a new phenomenon emerged: home taping. This way of recording resulted in a lot of noise. But that was less important then getting one's music out to the public. A well known label for cassette bands in those days was the dutch Trumpett Tapes. They were the 1st to publish the music of The Actor, who became their top selling cassette band in 1982 and 1983. The Actor's 1st release was 'Exploded View' in 1982. The songs (sung both in English and German) often related to fashion, modernism, dancing and appearence. This made The Actor quite fashionable". Remastered from the original tapes by Rude 66. Regular edition of 500 black vinyl copies.

into the future / LP

30th anniversary edition, Italian coldwave masterpiece from 1984. 'Into The Future' is an edition of 400 copies on 160gr black vinyl including an hand-numbered replica of the original booklet designed by Giacomo Spazio. On a cold autumn evening in Milan in 1981, Nino La Loggia met Giacomo Spazio for the 1st time. The 2 had the same passion for music: Kraftwerk, Joy Division, DAF and the whole new scene of proto-electronic wave headed by Cabaret Voltaire. Together they decided to start the musical project called 2+2=5, a tribute to Orwellian dystopia. Shortly after, Cha Cha Hagiwara joined the band. Already a keyboard player in Jeunesse d'Ivoire, she enriched the band's raw sound with sonority and resonance which we can now define as analog. After several gigs around Milan, Turin and Switzerland, in 1983 the trio entered the studio to record their 1st LP titled '..Into The Future', now reissued & mastered by Rude 66.

suicide commando / 12"

12" reissue of No More "Suicide Commando", one of the most influential singles that ever reach the underground surface in the past 35 years. Originally released in 1981 as a 7" single, and subsequently reprinted in 1984 as a 12" single with a different tracklist on the B-Side, the single was in the following years spreading internationally regardless of genres and scenes. A couple of years after these Germans recorded this, it spread like a virus to become a cult classic. The virus is still spreading to this day. No More were founded by Andy A. Schwarz (vocals, guitar, bass), Tina Sanudakura (synthesizers), Christian Darc (drums, vocals) and Thomas Welz (bass, vocals) in Kiel, a seaside town in the northern part of Germany. The 7" ep 'Too Late' was the 1st release in 1980 and was recorded in a small laundry-room with a 4-track TEAC (the ep was reviewed in the German SOUNDS-magazine as 'strangely, archaic music, brute sound that seems to be recorded with a purposely damaged 4-track'). After the departure of Thomas Welz at the end of 1980, No More worked as a trio until the end of 1983. During that period the band recorded the song "Suicide Commando", basically their biggest success. In the 90's the song entered the techno and electro scene, when it was remixed by Dj Hell and Echopark (Moguai & Torsten Stenzel). A minimal electro classic, highly recommended in a collectible limited edition of 500 copies. Exclusive for the Record Store Day 2015 ;)

insoc / 12"

The 'Insoc EP' contains the 1st official recordings from the legendary Minneapolis music collective Information Society led by founder/producer Paul Robb. Originally released on vinyl in 1983 the ep became extremely difficult to find. Now, for the 1st time since 1983, Mannequin Records is giving it a new birth on wax, this time including a bonus track "Charentiesm" never appeared before in any format, which is the 1st track ever recorded by Information Society in 1982. As the band tell, in March of 1983, they took 5 of the songs they been performing live and recorded them at Blackberry Hill studio in Minneapolis, in a part of town affectionately known as 'Dinkytown'. They had a huge plate reverb hanging in the basement. The legend says that they did all 5 songs, including vocals, in 14 hours, for $600, with no MIDI equipment, and only very minimal sequencers (not counting the drum units). The 'Insoc EP' is mostly a "live-played" electronic album. This was a 12", 45rpm vinyl disc. Only 100 copies were printed, and many of those were eventually thrown away. Equipment used on this ep included some of the best analog machines for sale at the time, like Roland TR 808, Roland Promars, Korg Ms 20, Moog Prodigy, Roland RS 09, Synare synth percussion pad and Electro Harmonix Minisynth. After emerging from the Minneapolis underground in the mid-80's, the group stormed onto the national scene with their international cult classic "Running", one of the most influential electro/freestyle tracks of all time and numerous Top 40 hits, notably the Number 1 smash "What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy)", as well as "Walking Away", "Think", and "Peace And Love, Inc.". A electro classic, highly recommended for fans of New Order, The Human League, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Yello, The Art Of Noise. First vinyl reissue ever after more than 30 years in a collectible limited edition of 500 copies.

zombi holocaust / LP

'Zombi Holocaust' movie is another slice of Italian zombie craziness for the late 70's/early 80's. The film, released in 1979, was directed by Marino Girolami, and starred Italian zombie favorite Ian McCulloch. In contrast to the sleazy and gory action on the screen, the soundtrack of the maestro Nico Fidenco is a thing of beauty and great depth, with captivating musicianship on display. The soundtrack is a rich blend of electronic/synthesizer tracks, experimental electronics, soaring acoustic and orchestral numbers with tinges of Spaghetti Western soundtracks, frenetic drumming coupled with woodwind instruments, and chants and manipulated wordless vocals. This eclectic blend is skillfully woven together to create a soundtrack that is unique, richly textured, and one that can stand side by side with the best works of other great Italian soundtrack composers. The selection of the tracks was following a particular path, where dark synthesizers, drones and slow burning electronic beats have a voice in. It still sound totally modern, so it was totally natural for Mannequin boss Alessandro Adriani to rework "The Magic Is In Progress", now transformed in a whole B-side 10 minutes dancefloor acid/ebm ride. Limited edition of 500 copies on red vinyl. TIP!

untitled / 12"

Long sought after by collectors and originally released in 1986 by a small independent label, the sound of this stellar full length is driven by sharp post-punk guitars, tribal rhythms and ghostly synthesizers, following the UK coldwave and post-punk tradition. Reflecting the realities of life in a city like Rome in the political landscape of the early 80's in Italy, Move were releasing also a couple of tapes and a split 12" with Gronge before dissolving into obscurity. The history of Italian post-punk begins around 1979, in some specific areas of the Belpaese. The productions were coming out from Pordenone and Bologna, with The Great Complotto and Italian Records influencing the rest of the territory. In a less organic way something began to arise in other parts of Italy, especially in the center-north where Florence, Turin, Milan and Rome were playing a crucial role. A forgotten classic, strongly recommended for fans of Joy Division, New Order, Section 25, Killing Joke, Bauhaus, Gang Of Four. Limited edition of 400 copies, insert with lyrics included.

Originally released in 1989 on Top Sound Records, rare dark italo 12" "Robespierre" by the italo-wave trio Effetto Joule. The reissue comes with extra demo tape material from their 'Ultraviolet' tapes and with a killer Flemming Dalum remix of the title track. Effetto Joule formed in Modena during the 2nd part of the 80's. The pulsating heart of the band were the brothers Flavio & Valerio Biagi with the collaboration of Valerio Tassinari. Deeply influenced by the British synth-pop heroes like Tubeway Army and Depeche Mode, the Biagi brothers were able to merge that kind of epic sounds with the more romantic Italian vision of the electronic dark wave. mons testaceum / LP

Originally released by Legowelt's Strange Life label on CD-r back in 2007, 'Mons Testaceum' finally has its 1st vinyl press on Mannequin Records. 'Mons Testaceum' together with 'Escape From The Hill' and 'Completion Of The Amphoras Table' represented the 1st of a trilogy dedicated to the 'Monte Testaccio', an artificial mound in Rome composed almost entirely of testae, fragments of broken amphorae dating from the time of the Roman Empire. The sound of the album is moving somewhere hidden between Fabio Frizzi and Goblin, thanks the extensive use of the Italian (better Roman) legendary synthesizer Elka Synthex in every single track, with touches of the Berlin electronic school, “mixed with irresistable futuristic soulfunk synth solos (Kool and the Gang goes cosmic!)”. Impressive stuff in a limited edition of 400 copies..

ceux qui restent / 2x12"

Montréal synth-punk quartet Police Des Moeurs returns on Mannequin Records with a brand new full length entitled 'Ceux Qui Restent', the most dynamic and incendiary record of the group's career, following the highly-acclaimed self-titled release from 2013. While the 1st effort was mostly about how we're all separate from each others, the 2nd one is all about to getting over it and trying to fight it. As vocalist and synth player Francis Dugas explains: 'most of the new LP is about links, love and caring (in PDM style, obviously). The title is 'Ceux qui restent', which means 'Those Who Stay' or something like that. Ceux qui vivent la tempête jusqu'au bout.' Still raw, but more direct and minimal than the 1st LP, 2 tracks feature Pete from Dekoder on bass guitar. Double LP edition (limited to 250 copies) with the add of the 'Punk Tape' LP, previously released on cassette by Runstate. The 2nd LP contains covers of Chron Gen, Reagan Youth, The Headcoatees, Trotskids, Antisect, Anti-Cimex, Rudimentari Peni and Ludwig Von 88. Only 1 copy available !!!
