ciné romance / LP

Once you enter Selofans' "Ciné Romance" you will never want to leave again. You will be transferred in a new-wave world of playful irony, electronic melodies and experimentation. Once we go through the gates of this Cinema we shall forget our fears in the sound of a cinematic track inspired by David Lynchs' movie Dune. After this catharsis we are ready to enter the dark, mutant world of (according to our opinion) the currenlty most visionary band emerging from the Greek underground. Selofans' world is multi sided, you may feel directly connected to it and the next moment you may lose the ground under your feet. Polymorphism comes from Greece and has always been a characteristic for Selofans' music. The album is singular in concept but varies genres: dark-wave treasures, synth-punk spells, melodic saxophone fairy-tales and early industrial beats coexist in harmony, while a hallucinating voice sings or whispers poems of great emotional tension in different languages, exposing uncomfortable truths. This album transfers a powerfully original fusion of energies and is meant to be only for the wild at heart! A limited to 1000 copies future-classic! Includes download link, innersleeve with the lyrics and sticker..

auto-reverse / 2x12"

A killer selection of ice cold motorized Detroit electro tracks by Le Car! After Le Car had been dismantled and the parts put in storage years ago we have a final ride with Le Car that has been reassembled for the occasion. The '96-'97 Detroit electro project by Adam Lee Miller (later known for his ADULT. project) and Ian Clarke (known for his Perspects project) show another side of the Detroit music scene. The duo met at Art School and had a shared love for electronic music and conceptual art. This resulted in their own little vehicle named Le Car that had a test drive for 4 ep's. The 'Auto-Fuel EP', 'Auto-Graph EP', 'Automatic' and the final 'Auto-Motif EP' of which 3 came out on Miller's Detroit label Monoplaza Record Company (a sublabel of Ersatz Audio). The connection between Rotterdam/The Hague and Detroit was quickly made those days when a new generation of producers came up (including producers such as DBX, Ectomorph and Drexciya) which resulted in collaborations and releases of ADULT., Perspects and also Drexciya. These releases by Le Car are the conceptual link between the Detroit techno scene and the heritage of the automotive city that effected everything thats been going on in the city for the last 4-5 decades. Inspired by the electronic musical pioneers that came to rise during the decline of the city which was in full effect during the 80's. Robots replacing humans in the factories, Electronic machines replacing musical instruments. Where the warm Motown sound could stand for the rise of the city, the city's electro/techno movement which appeared in all layers of the population can be seen as the (beautiful) reflection of the city's downfall with Le Car as one understated and important part. Now, 20 years after their 1st test drive we celebrate the last ride of Le Car on Clone Classic Cuts. Enjoy the ride! (ltd edition 2lp album)

After his critically acclaimed Frustrated Funk releases 'Alsoran' and 'Vox Automaton' in 2007, Gerard Hanson returns to la familia frustrada to drop yet another selection of his finest material. This time with Harbour City Sorrow. 'Lunar Ruins' shows his deeper side again with skillfully crafted tracks loaded with fragile moments of elegance and beauty. The title track is already known from his amazing live sets, and was recorded around the same period as 'Alsoran'. Typical E.R.P. basslines combined with tear jerkin strings. With "Into The Distance" Gerard shows his love for the early DMay sound and programming style. The final track "Mimosa Canopy" is an experimental minimalistic track with warm pads, clean production and lots of tweaking freakyness. Great release again from our humble Texan friend. 2017 Repress with alternate label-art !

front teeth / LP

The Swiss Zürich-based act comes back with their 3rd full-length recording. Not even one year after their latest 'Ursprung' LP, Veil Of Light give us 10 new songs that mark quite a change of direction. The black&white artwork of their previous releases is gone to give space to one bold, full-colour look. The guitar-driven shoegaze-oriented fuzzy sounds of past records make way for a new focus on the electronic, industrial synth, EBM-wave spectrum. Check out the opener "Your Love" with its throbbing synths and mechanical drumming, or the pressing minimal-wave of Soul In Ethanol; again, "Sturm Und Drang"'s pounding industrial dance and "Body To The Ceiling"'s doom electronics. A new wave of new-wave is here and Veil Of Light are showing the way. LP comes in printed innersleeve with lyrics.

cupio dissolvi / 12"

Lebanon Hanover's bassist William Maybelline is back with his solo project. After the debut album 'Sable' from 2015, Qual strikes back with a 3-track 12" maxi-single. Each one of these new songs explore a different dimension of Maybelline's approach to body/wave electronics. The title-track "Cupio Dissolvi" is what we may already call classic Qual: gloomy and throbbing, synth-driven and labyrinthine. "A Bloody Blob" explores new martial slants, with war-like timpani and a marching robot gait. "Rape Me In The Parthenon" is a 8 minute long dancefloor mayhem anthem scanned by some pounding techno drumbeat and EBM snare and pads. By far the most extreme track Qual recorded so far. “Buried in flowers with hands of gold / Buried together we'll never mold” shall be thy epitaph here, as well as your message engraved on virgin vinyl. Limited to 500 copies !

Artist : Ironing Music

untitled / LP

Reissue of a very obscure Australian gem from the 80's. Ironing Music were a 3 piece band from Brisbane. They originally formed in 1984 as a result of their collective love for New Order, Human League and eventually Jean Michel Jarre and Cabaret Voltaire. Comprised of bass and electic guitar, Yamaha DX-7, melodica and an 808, they recorded a 12" single as their sole outpt in 1985 in a limited run of 250 copies (obviously excruciatingly rare now!). It was recorded in their bedroom studio with at Teac 4 track. The video clip for the hit "Shopping Bag Women" was played on several national and local television music shows. They also recorded demos in hopes of landing a LP deal which unfortunately didn't attract any takers at the time. They actually only played 3 gigs and were forced to disband after one of their members fell ill in 1986. The LP presented here included the original 4-track single as well as hand picked demos which nicely congeal to form a well rounded LP documenting the band's brief existence. They can best be described as lo-fi synth-pop with an emphasis on excellent pop songs and interesting synth/instrument arrangements. The 1st track "Shopping Bag Women" is infectiously catchy and just screams to be worn out in the club. Fans of early to mid 80's synth-pop and new romantic will fall in love. The tracks have been lovingly remastered by Martin Bowes at the Cage, London. Features original reproduction of the front cover painting. Presented in a limited edition on 180gr colored vinyl.

Artist : Video Liszt

Label : Medical Records LLC

ektakröm killer / LP

In celebration of Record Store Day (Black Friday), Medical Records returns to France for the reissue of the very rare and sought-after Video Liszt LP. 'Ektakröm Killer' was released in 1981 and had never had never been reissued or repressed. The artist behind Video Liszt was Xol, a French journalist and musician. Commanding a multitude of analog synthesizers, Moog modulars, an EMS vocoder, and an Apple Two computer, Xol crafted a very diverse album with styles ranging from sci-fi synth soundtracks, prog, space disco, and all the way to more accessible electro-pop. The album was produced by Richard Pinhas (Heldon, Moogi-Le-Moog) and recorded in Pinhas's Studio Ramsès. Pinhas contributes guitar as well. Also of interest was that Jean-Louis Rizet (from French space rock group Pôle) engineered the record! Lovers of Einzelgänger, Jean-Michael Jarre, Kraftwerk, as well as late period Heldon will be head over heels with this hidden gem. Original copies have become very collectible and expensive in the 2nd-hand record market. Presented on high quality 180gr classic black vinyl with the original reproduction artwork and bonus insert with the original artwork from the 1981 release's inner sleeve.

Artist : Monopol

weltweit / LP

Long out of print Neu Deutsche Welle cult classic album 'Weltweit' by Monopol. Released in 1982, 'Weltweit' was the sole output of the band. It has appropriately become quite rare and difficult to find with the resulting high prices to obtain an original copy. Inspired by the greats such as Kraftwerk, YMO and Klaus Schulze, the 3 members crafted an exquisite collection of pop songs played on a very impressive collection of analog synthesizers, self-builds and drum machines that were considered cutting edge at the time. The band would have recorded a 2nd album but split up before that was possible. Members of the band continued to be involved in the music industry at least peripherally but didn't participate in further collaborations or bands. Also nterestingly, Monopol was basically a studio-only project and actually never played live (despite some TV appearances). The album has been remastered by Martin Bowes at the Cage, UK. Contains a special bonus insert with lyrics and photos. Definitely a must-have for fans of NDW such as Grauzone, Reingold and the like. Presented on high quality 180gr classic black vinyl. Limited edition.

stretcher

26.79€

Artist : Severed Heads

Label : Medical Records LLC

stretcher / LP

Reissue of Australia's Severed Heads and their 1985 release 'Stretcher'. The Severed Heads story continues with the expanded and 'Stretched' 2LP reissue. After personnel changes in 1985 (Garry Bradbury and Paul Deering left the band), Sev was now down to a 2 piece (Tom Ellard and Stephen Jones). Stretcher was originally released to be a compilation to introduce the band to an American audience, but it was ultimately sold in 3 versions due to other countries desiring their own version (an EP in Canada and England and an LP in Australia). The name was taken from the sign on the emergency stretcher at the front of every Sydney ferry during that era. This version is based on the 'Volition' release (Australian version) but with all the tracks from the other versions for a full collection of 17 tracks over 2 LPs. A bit more 'accessible' than the previous 'City Slab Horror' with a number of dancefloor stompers filling out the collection such as the 12" versions of "Halo" and "Petrol". The collection mostly consists of new tracks written for the multiple releases for each country release but also contains a few older tracks remixed and even a demo version of "Harold And Cindy" which would be later fleshed out on 'The Big Bigot'. The Heads toured the LP across Australia in 1985 resulting in a lot of 'exciting adventures with audiences who wanted to kill us' (said Tom Ellard). 2 other interesting facts in regard to this collection is that it was the 1st time Sev used MIDI and a DX7 and every track has some radio signal mixed in there somewhere, always by accident. The original version(s) are all long out of print and becoming rare on the collector's market. Presented in a beautiful gatefold 2LP on high quality classic black 160gr vinyl with original artwork as well as new gatefold layout by Tom Ellard with extensive liner notes detailing the back story and creation of each individual track. Get lost in it.

mechanic soldier

Artist : Effetto Joule

Label : Medical Records LLC

mechanic soldier / LP

Hailing from Bologna, Italy in the late 80's, Effetto Joule were brothers Flavio & Valero Biagi, Massimo Chericoni and Valerio Tassinari. Drawing on influences of the early 80's new-wave and synth-pop scene and armed with an arsenal of synthesizers (Korg Poly-800, Roland alpha juno-1 and juno-2, etc) from the mid 80's, Effetto Joule crafted their own sound. With the exception of the few of the tracks, almost all were home recorded during the years of 1988-1990. Effetto Joule self released a couple of cassettes entitled 'Ultraviolet' A and B as well as one 12" single in 1989 on Top Sound Record (recently reissued by Mannequin Records with bonus material). The rest of their music has been unreleased demos from which 3 tracks were hand selected. The tunes can best be described as densely new romantic with unquestionably catchy hooks and lovely vocals to boot. Standout tracks include "Active Ray" and "Stars Your Memory". Fans of Visage, early Depeche Mode and Dare era Human League will need this slab of wax in their collections to cherish. Presented on high quality 180gr colored vinyl. Limited edition. Remastered from cassette from the artist's archive by Martin Bowes at the Cage, UK. Contains 4 digital bonus tracks!

a derangement of synapses

Artist : Red Fetish

a derangement of synapses / LP

Hand-picked selection of home recorded demos from Stoke, UK's Red Fetish. Armed with a Korg 770, Yamaha CS10, Korg Rhythm 55, a guitar here and there and a Teac 244 4-track recorder, the band consisted of Neale James Potts & Mike Richardson. Red Fetish featured members from All The Madmen and Decades By Night and later evolved into The Cone and Tiger Club. These tracks were recorded in 1982-83 and all culled from various cassettes that the band recorded. The tracks for this special release (technically not a reissue) were hand picked by Medical Records out of a large demo collection (often multiple versions of certain songs). Red Fetish was heavily influenced by UK late 70's new-wave as well as rock staples such as Pink Floyd, Beatles, and Hawkwind. The songs are built from very minimal and sparse synth lines yet the overall feel is interestingly dense and warm. Standout tracks include the playful and futuristic "Modern Age" and "The Last Man". A few of these tracks were previously released (different version) on a 7" on Anna Logue (Germany) but most have been largely unheard until now. Sprinkled in amongst the catchy vocal pop songs are quite a few very warm and synth heavy instrumentals as well such as "The Immortals" and "Blaze". This collection will absolutely be another piece of the highly intriguing and ever-deep well of minimal synth acts such as other contemporaries Oppenheimer Analysis, Twilight Ritual, Iron Curtain, and the like. Certainly fans of early Human League (especially The Future), early cassette culture wave and similar will enjoy this collection immensely. Remastered from cassette by Martin Bowes. Presented on high-quality 180gr heavyweight half and half colored vinyl (red and white) with sleeve design by Steve Lippert. Limited edition release.

technophelia / LP

1st full length LP in 5 years by L.A.'s Geneva Jacuzzi. To say Jacuzzi is a multifaceted artist would be an understatement. She is well known for her uncompromisingly obtuse synth-driven pop and one-of-a-kind performance art that is comprised of one time only spectacles and installations. Her works have been presented in famous art institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, MOCA and numerous other venues across the globe. She has developed a very focused cult following in the art AND music scenes. She was originally well known for her multitude of self-released home recordings but also released a full length 'Lamaze' in 2010 on the Vinyl International to much acclaim. Not to mention her track "The Sleep Room" featured on The Minimal Wave Tapes Vol 2. 'Technophelia' is the culmination of a hybrid of DiY and professional studio recordings (with the help of esteemed producer Chris Coady) that resulted in this exquisite album. Features the soon-to-be-hits "I'm A T.V." and "Cannibal Babies". Lovers of unique and left-field wave such as Gina X, Ronny, and the like will be transfixed by the raw, oozing newness of it all. All tracks recorded/performed by Geneva Jacuzzi with additional production by Chris Coady at Sunset Sound Studios. Mastered by Josh Bonati. Presented on high-quality 180gr heavyweight white vinyl.

the stalker / 12"

A flaming tribute to the peaks of low budget Italian crime flicks and to synthwave as lubed-up as we need, poisoned with synthetic drugs and the rust from circuit boards, Scorpion Violente are the epitome of everything the entrepreneurial divertimento generation hate. Feeling up their synths with all the vigor of a manic depressive on a downward slope, our 2 hosts emit their dirty feedback-washed discharge, adding Ich Bin and Le Syndicat Electronique to their holiday activity books. The tempo is even slower than before, with echoes more distant than In Aeternum Vale and Ike Yard dripping from their stabbing loops. Litanies almost crashing into chasms ooze in this cold cyclo-rhythmic blues, sure to make Alan Vega turn in his grave. Sick, sordid old crooning spat like bile from a wounded animal, fairy tales of ordinary madness, everyday nightmares and steel-reinforced rock ab from Lorraine, drifting in the cold gas-clouds of sulfur-laced heroin. These dudes are not fucking around, they go all the way. No remorse. Life rules most when it sucks, and maybe it's right there, in the firmament of famine, in the atrium of deserted factories, where the last vestiges of poetry survive. They sure kept us stewing since their 1st ep, but it was well worth the wait..

Artist : Silvia

untitled / LP

Silvia is the name of a Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW 'New German Wave') project created Tommi Stumpff & Silvia Nemanic. The pair met in Düsseldorf in the late 70's and started dating when Tommi was the singer of punk band Der KFC. Silvia was absolutely inexperienced in musical things, she said 'I've played the recorder'. Tommi rented Klangwerkstatt studio for a few days in January 1982 to record his an album with his bandmate Ferdinand Mackenthun aka Käpt'n Nuss of Der KFC, but finished earlier than expected. With one extra day that was already paid for, they quickly wrote some more songs and recorded them. All they needed was a singer, so they asked Silvia. Simply titled 'Silvia', the record was released in mid-1982 on cult label Schallmauer Records, which had released many German punk, NDW and new-wave records in the 80's. Tommi and Käpt'n Nuss played all instruments and wrote the lyrics. Since Silvia had a very deep voice, Tommi slightly pitched up her vocals to sound higher on the recordings. The album displays Tommi's transition from punk rock to cold electronics, EBM and eventually techno. Tommi's instrument set up was a Sequential Circuits Pro One and Moog Prodigy controlled by a Fricke sequencer and a Korg SQ-10 Analog Sequencer. Silvia urges the listener to save themselves and says 'No miracle will happen you die tomorrow, young and guilty' evoking the urban Zeitgeist of the Cold War. Housed in the original jacket featuring a full color of Silvia on the front with hand drawn magenta type. Each copy includes a replica insert of the original lyrics sheet in German and a postcard featuring a black and white photo of Tommi and Silvia. Sadly Silvia passed away in 2003 and this reissue is dedicated to her.

transdance / 12"

All 4 mixes of "Transdance" by Night Moves as a tribute dedicated to the lives lost in the Oakland Ghost Ship fire on December 2, 2016. Night Moves was the brainchild of Michael Guihen, from South London. Inspired by seeing Tubeway Army perform on Top of the Pops in 1979 he placed an add to form a synth-based band in the NME. In November 1980 he was introduced to Denis Haines, formerly Gary Numan's keyboardist on the 'Telekon' album. Denis and Michael worked closely together, writing a number of backing tracks. One of these was the farewell song from Gary Numan to his band Tubeway Army, "Love Needs No Disguise". In exchange for this backing track, Denis gave Michael the studio time needed to develop "Transdance". The 1st version of "Transdance" was recorded in late Spring 1981 at Ridge Farm Studio in Surrey and within the week Michael had a recording deal with GC Recordings. This mix of "Transdance" was pressed onto a white label GC1 and was sent to clubs around Britain and Europe. In Summer 1981 he met John Davis (aka John Darc) also part West London's new romantic scene. They recorded the 2nd mix of "Transdance" at Matrix Studios in London early 1982, and John added the new bass line. This was titled 'U.K. Disco Mix' and released by GC Records. On this mix the backing vocals were sung by Eve Goddard, Adam Ant's ex-wife. In March 1983 Michael and John turned to New York's budding electro & hip-hop scenes to have Jay Burnett remix the 'New York Disco Mix'. Back in London, the duo disappeared into the cutting rooms at Utopia studios with Francis Usmar and emerged with the final dub edit 'Robot Rock'. All 3 later mixes were programmed with a Roland TR-808, some live drums, and one homemade handclap machine. "Transdance" was embraced by Chicago's WBMX, Hot Mix 5 and Ron Hardy as well in New York at Larry Levan's Paradise Garage and Tony Humphries' Club Zanzibar in New Jersey. It is considered a blueprint that traces the line from UK synth-pop to Chicago house and Detroit techno. Housed in the original jacket featuring a black and white photograph of 2 mannequins dancing set against a cantaloupe hue. Each copy includes a 2-sided 11" square insert with lyrics and drawings of all 36 victims of the Oakland Ghost Ship fire. Also included is a 6 page booklet with liner notes, original press kit sheets and photographs from the band's archive. 100% of all profits will be donated to the Oakland Fire Immediate Relief Fund.

cockerill-sombre / 12"

The Neon Judgement hail from the small town of Leuven near Brussels, Belgium and gave birth to the new-beat and EBM scenes worldwide with the release of their 1st 2 cassettes 'Suffering' (1981) and 'TV Treated' (1982). Always a consistent duo of Dirk Da Davo (synthesizers, vocals) and TB Frank (guitar, drum machine, vocals), The Neon Judgment worked in a parallel world alongside Suicide, Cabaret Voltaire, and the Deutsche Neue Welle. In 1983 they released the infamous 4-song 'Cockerill-Sombre' ep containing the dancefloor smash "The Fashion Party" on Anything But Records. Dirk Da Davo says, 'First we recorded and mixed the drum parts and effects on 4-track, then we bounced this mix to 2 tracks again what left us with 2 more channels to use for vocals and additional instruments'. Veering between minimalistic industrial drones, odd new-wave-ish synth-pop and dance music, underlain by cold, mechanical rhythms. The band combine brash and seedy lyrics, with raw synthesizer stabs and repetitive drum machine beats both aggressive and danceable. 'Cockerill-Sombre' was recorded in a small basement room under the watchful eyes of Ludo Camerberlin from A Blaze Colour. Housed in the original jacket featuring a black and white photo of the duo performing live. Each copy includes a 2-sided 11" square insert with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by Dirk Da Davo.

sound of danger / LP

Espen Beranek Holm is a Norwegian musician and comedian, born 1960 and began his music career as a clarinetist. Inspired by early synthesizer bands Kraftwerk and The Residents, he began making experimental pop music. His debut single "Dra Te' Hælvete" was released in 1981 and was immediately banned by national TV/radio channel NRK due to explicit lyrics. This gave the young artist tons of publicity, helping the single spend almost 6 months on the national charts. Beranek returned to the Starholm Studios in Oslo from june to september 1981 to record 9 new compositions. His debut album, 'Sound Of Danger', was released on Mind Expanding Records in november 1981. Nowhere near as accessible as the previous single, the album fared poorly commercially. Withdrawing from the single's fun, kitsch pop, the album is cool and static, driven by thin rhythm boxes, cold synths and glacial guitars. Taking heavy cues from David Bowie, all of the songs are sung in a nasally English accent, a rare occurrence in Norway at the time. The lyrics are melancholic, but tinged with paranoia. There are also upbeat tracks that evoke a prog or glam sensibility a la King Crimson, Alan Parsons, or Roxy Music. Housed in the original jacket featuring red, black and white lines that evoke a visualized Richter Scale designed by Monica Moltzau. Each copy includes a 2-sided 8x11" insert with lyrics and an autographed press photo of Beranek.

The Arms Of Someone New was formed in 1983 in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois by Mel Eberle and Steve Jones. Steve managed and helped record Mel's band The First Things; while in the studio to demo some of Mel's songs, they started collaborating. Both grew up around their families' pianos and got into psychedelic rock drawing inspiration from Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles, taking their name 'The Arms Of Someone New' from a line on a Beatle's X-Mas Fan Club Single. They modeled their sound after the melancholic side of Factory Records, The Cure's 'Faith' period and The Teardrop Explodes. Between 1983 and 1985 they released 4 cassettes, one 7", and one 12" ep. In september 1985, the duo self-released their debut full length 'Susan Sleepwalking' on Office Records. To They drafted locals for the album's recordings, including Lynn Canfield, Henry Frayne, Brenden Gamble and Joe Strell (all of the group Ack-Ack!) as well as Nick Rudd. Equipped with Casio keyboards, drum machines, and jangly guitars, The Arms Of Someone New provided an American take on English folk, ambient, and industrial music. Over the album's 10 tracks they paint pictures of stillness with sparse instrumentation and simple chord change. Psychedelic vocals add a dream-like veneer. The Arms of Someone New fearlessly mix genres without sacrificing the unity of their vision. 'Susan Sleepwalking' could as well be retitled 'Music For Interiors' (both architectural and of the mind - The Michigan Daily 1985). Housed in the original jacket featuring a blood red-tinted photograph with ghostly textures. Each copy includes a 2-sided 11" square insert with lyrics and press clippings from the band's archive.

East Wall was an Italian electronic dark wave band started by Fabrizio Chiari (ex-keyboardist of Kirlian Camera) and Wilma Notari in 1982. After a series of demos and live performances, the duo recruited Angelo Bergamini of Kirlian Camera to help with arrangement and synthesizers. They released their debut single "Eyes Of Glass" in 1985 which had huge success in Germany, leading to a deal with ZYX. By 1991 the band consisted of Fabrizio Chiari (synthesizer, electronics, keyboards), Tiziana Wells (vocals, synthesizer) and Angelo Bergamini (synthesizer, piano, arrangement). At the beginning of the year, they recorded their next batch of songs at Prominence Studio in Cremona and A Love Sound Studio in Piacenza. 'Silence' was self released by the band in 1991. The lead track "Silence" was a left-over song by Kirlian Camera recorded in 1985 with vocals by Simona Buja under the alias Lorenza Larini. It was recorded largely using a variety of now-classic Roland, Yamaha, and Oberheim synthesizers. The album displays East Wall's maturity and unique aesthetics, with instrumental pieces reminiscent of Angelo Badalamenti' Twin Peaks score. Tiziana Wells sings with pure emotion, hypnotic at times, upbeat and carefree at others. Frankie Teardrop (of the Wierd party and the Systems of Romance blog) describes this album as 'possibly the closest thing to darkwave freestyle that exists'. We decided to expand the album, releasing it as a deluxe double LP cut louder at 45rpm. An unreleased extended version of "Ice Of Fire" has been included and the bonus track "Intro", found on the DAT tapes Fabrizio Chiari sent us. It is housed in the original jacket, featuring a dramatically lit photograph of the band by Andrea Gambetta. Each copy includes an 11x11 double-sided insert with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by Intergalactic Gary, who's Despair Mix turned us onto to this album.

East Wall was an Italian electronic dark wave band formed by Fabrizio Chiari (ex keyboardist of Kirlian Camera) and Wilma Notari in 1982. After a series of demos and live performances, the duo recruited Angelo Bergamini of Kirlian Camera to help with arrangement and synthesizers. In September 1984 they booked a recording time at Master Studio 33 in Cremona Italy. Working with produced Ray Masola, they recorded their debut single "Eyes Of Glass", which was released on No Comment in early 1985. The equipment set up was a PPG Wave 2, Roland ProMars, Roland Juno 60, Simmons drum, and an upright piano. "Eyes Of Glass" is an outstanding example of 80's italo-disco full of dark, moody atmosphere and depth. Wilma Notari's coy vocals cast a spell on the listener as she weaves a story about lost love and 'bitter tears'. Included here are the original extended 12" mix and instrumental version with mid-song breakdown and dubbed out chorus. Housed in the original jacket featuring a photo of a boy by Pushe 27. helden platz / 12"

'Helden Platz', a long out of print 12" maxi single from seminal Italian electronic act Kirlian Camera. Keyboardist/vocalist Angelo Bergamini founded the project in Parma in 1979 and named it after an electronic device that photographs the electromagnetic halo around objects and living beings. By 1980, Angelo had recruited singer Simona Buja, keyboardist Fabrizio Chiari, and bassist Mauro Montacchini. Their demo cassette, 'Dawn', attracted the attention of Italian Records, a popular independent label. Over the next few years the band would release their st mini-LP, 'Kirlian Camera', the full length 'It Doesn't Matter, Now' and the singles "Communicate", "Edges", and "Blue Room". The latter was a significant hit, eventually landing them a deal with Virgin Records. By 1987 the line up consisted of Angelo Bergamini on all instruments, Charlie Mallozzi on electronic drums and Simona Buja on vocals. Virgin wanted the band to provide another hit single in order to exploit the success of 'Blue Room', refusing to release the band's less commercial material. In 1987 the band went Lark Studio at Carimate Castle, Italy to record with italo-disco producer Oderso Rubini. Thanks to the insistence of Bergamini, the label agreed to release "Helden Platz", German for "Heroes' Square', in 1987. The song features Kirlian Camera's brand of dark wave, marked by haunting melodies, slow moving synth washes, and orchestral strings. The song features the stark, dramatic vocals of Simona Buja, who sings about the 'blue blood of winter' in a tale of Germany and Austria during World War II. Included here is the extended 12" mix, the 7" edit, plus the original B-side "Burial", an instrumental that evokes a funeral procession soundtrack. It is housed in the original jacket, featuring a photo of a headstone from Zentralfriedhof Cemetery in Vienna. Each copy includes a 2-sided postcard with lyrics and photos of the band.

Λένα Πλάτωνος (Lena Platonos) is a Greek musician, pianist and music composer. One of the pioneers of Greek electronic music, she remains active today. Lena was born in Heraklion, Crete, and grew up in Athens. She began learning how to play the piano at the age of 2 and became a professional pianist before turning 18. Soon afterwards, she received a scholarship to study in the the Berlin and Vienna Academies , where she was exposed to jazz, rock and Middle Eastern music. She returned to Greece in the late 70's and began working with the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation. Released in 1984, 'Μάσκες Ηλίου' ('Sun Masks') was Lena Platonos' 1st record to feature her own words and vocals. All instruments were performed by Lena herself. 'Sun Masks' was inspired by Argentine writer, Julio Cortázar as well as the film 'The Wall' by Pink Floyd. "I began to reverse my thought process, to let melodies fade out, to turn to minimalism, to experiment on my Yamaha C60 synthesizer and a variety of 'boxes' which I used to change the sound of my voice as well as the sound of the synthesizer" says Lena. The album featured experiments with different sounds and a new batch of electronic equipment, such as the legendary Roland TR 808 drum machine. Lena narrates each song in deadpan fashion, skillfully reciting her surreal Greek poetry. Her lyrics deal with the futility of love, the gap of human relationships, consumerist alienation in the bourgeois lifestyle of the 80's. The jacket is an exact replica of the 1984 edition, featuring a photograph of Lena wearing sunglasses or 'sun masks'. Each copy includes a 2-sided 11"x11" insert with lyrics in both Greek with English, and liner notes by Lena.

Bocal 5 were a no-wave art group composed of Doc Pilot (synths, vocals), Zouka Dzaza (bass), Florian Guillou (synths), Mickey Lepron (electronic drums, bass) and Evy Tinguette (lead vocals). The project was born in november 1980 in Tours, France as the brain child of Doc Pilot. Between 1981 & 1986 Bocal 5 recorded one 7" single and a cassette-only album before taking a year off in 1984 to launch X-Ray Pop. Influenced by Erik Satie, Brigitte Bardot, Suicide and Young Marble Giants, they call their music 'minimum naïve new-wave'. 'Musique Electronique' is a 19-track compilation of songs recorded across 1983, most of which have never been released on vinyl before. 16 tracks appeared on the 'From Bocal 5 To X-Ray Pop' album originally released on cassette by Sound of Pig in 1984. Both tracks from their debut 7" originally released in MB5 1984 are included and show a progression in sound as a result of newer recording equipment and techniques. Also present is a song from the tape compilation 'Andreas N°3 L'Animal' released by Fraction Studio in 1984. Armed with a Korg 770, MS-10, Prophet Pro-One, Roland TR-707 and TB-808 they crafted their own brand of quirky synthesized electronic pop. Songs are short, concise and well structured; richly textured, moving at a quick speed with hardly a pause. Evy's pouting, tongue-in-cheek vocals (sung in French) come together for a catchy, sensuous, danceable, eccentric psychedelic ride. This collection shows the group's sense of humor, vitality and carefree playfulness. Each jacket displays a bright neon green collage of photos and ephemera from the band's archives designed by Eloise Leigh that exudes the project's DiY spirit. Each copy includes a 6-page xeroxed booklet with photos, original artwork and press clippings.

Die Form is a French post-industrial and electronic band formed in 1977-1978. Die Form is the primary project of electronic musician and multimedia artist Philippe Fichot. He began by recording a number of experimental cassette releases in the late 1970s and formed the Bain Total label to release these early cassettes, as well as various side projects such as Krylon Hertz, Camera Obscura, Eva-Johanna Reichstag, Hurt and Fine Automatic. In 1982 Die Form released their debut vinyl album, 'Die Puppe' in a limited edition of 1000 copies. 'Zoo' is a compilation of 10 tracks recorded during the "Die Puppe" sessions from 1980-82. These were the 1st esoteric electronic experiments, often improvised. Underlying themes of eroticism, death, and other 'taboo' subjects become apparent in both the music and the album artwork, which Philippe also produced. The album was recorded with entirely analog equipment, including a Roland MC4 Micro-Composer, TR-808 Rhythm Composer, ARP 2600, and Kawai 60F recorded to a Revox B77 reel to reel tape machine. Songs range from hypnotic, minimalistic proto-IDM to daring experimental sound manipulation. 4 of these songs were featured as a bonus 7" to accompany the 1989 vinyl reissue of "Die Puppe" but remixed for the project. The remaining 6 songs were also remixed and released on CD in 2001. The front cover was designed by Eloise Leigh and features a black and white photograph by Philipe. Each album includes a double sided post card with liner notes and a rare photo of the band.

Zwischenfall formed in Belgium in 1982 with Michael Sass (synths), Martin Urban (bass/vocals) and Stephan Kraemer (guitar/drums). They were united by their interest in combining electronic and traditional instruments, which developed the basis for 1982 demo recordings. By chance Patrick Codenys of the Belgian electro pioneers Front 242, heard 2 songs and decided to record a 4-song ep. The 'Heute' ep was released in 1983 after a week of recording in Front 242's private studio under the direction of sound-whiz Daniel B. In 1984 Martin Urban left the band and was replaced by vocalist Iben Larssen and bassist Thomas Kürsten. They recorded their 2nd 12" single, "Sandy Eyes", which contained a remake of their song "Flucht", sung in the English this time. Some fairly revolutionary techniques were used, including the introduction of sampling (with an Emulator I and Ensoniq Mirage), and 'gated reverb', in which the sound of a large reverb room was processed through a Yamaha CS15's envelope follower. This record was originally released in 1984 on both Les Disques du Crépuscule and Fuzz Dance, packaged in 3 different covers. Our reissue ep features 2 bonus tracks from the 1984 recording sessions previously unreleased on vinyl: the saxophone drenched instrumental "Polar Magazine" and street beat dance track "Sacred Time". The record comes housed in a newly designed die-cut jacket by Eloise Leigh, updating the magenta and yellow color scheme of the Fuzz Dance release. Each copy includes a double-sided insert with lyrics, notes, and never seen before photos.

Gianluigi 'Gigi' Farina and Francesco Rago are to be counted among italo-disco's true originators. Operating as a duo under many monikers, they brought us masterpieces such as Wanexa's "The Man From Colours", ‘Lectric Workers "Robot Is Systematic", and Decadance's "On And On". Their sound is propulsive and ethereal in equal measure; dense, psychedelic, and tinged with melancholy. "The Man From Colours" was recorded in Milan in 1982 and released on Discomagic Records the same year. The song's music was composed by Rago and Farina, with lyrics written by Xenia Monneret who was only 16 at the time. Mournful synth pads are buoyed by an 808 groove, while Lyana Galis provides haunting vocals, singing of a man who will bring color to this grey world. "The Man From Colours" was influential on early house and techno music thanks to support from WBMX in Chicago and and WJLB in Detroit. It was later a cornerstone in the 90's Hague electro scene, frequently appearing in Dj sets by I-f and Intergalactic Gary. On the B-side is the instrumental version with extended breaks, drum claps and additional vocoder verses. There is a slight warble in the beginning of each version that was due to the band re-recording multiple takes on the same reel of tape. The record comes housed in a newly designed die-cut jacket by Eloise Leigh, updating the pink and green color scheme of the original Discomagic Records label. Each copy includes a double-sided postcard insert with lyrics, notes, and a never seen before photo from a fashion show.

Nagamatzu were the British duo of Andrew Lagowski (SETI, Legion, Terror Against Terror) on synths, guitar, and programming and Stephen Jarvis (Pure Motorised Instinct, Terraform) on synths and bass. Formed in 1982 after messing around with old tape machines and drum boxes, making numerous contributions to international compilations and erratically releasing their own cassettes. Their name comes from a character in JG Ballard's 'Atrocity Exhibition' and their music reflects his influence. Nagamatzu self-released their debut cassette 'Shatter Days' in 1983 after messing around with old tape machines, drum boxes and effects. 'Above This Noise' is a compilation of 9 songs recorded in the period between the release of 'Sacred Islands Of The Mad' in 1986 and 'Igniting The Corpse' in 1991. It gathers tracks which surfaced on some of the international compilation cassette releases that the band were invited to contribute to in the 80's as well as some previously unreleased songs. The band's working method was for Andrew to 1st record a backing track, usually rhythm, sequence, samples. Then both members would layer more electronics, samples, guitar and bass over the top, recording the whole piece in one take. These instrumentals combine stuttering bass, guitar bursts and funeral keyboards draped over a dragging drum machine beat, calling to mind Clock DVA, early New Order or Cocteau Twins. Their sound is full of complex rhythm patterns and dark electronics. The vinyl comes housed in jacket silver and black designed by Eloise Leigh. Each LP includes a fold out poster with liner notes by Stephen Jarvis and an early gig flyer. Finally rescued from the UK DiY cassette underground and restored, 'Above This Noise' presents 9 Nagamaztu tracks for the 1st time ever on vinyl.

Series-A was the duo of Sam Anderson aka Dj Maestro and Dave Webb (aka Kid Fresh). Sam & Dave both grew up listening to the sounds of the Electrifying Mojo on WJLB in Detroit. They met in 1983 at a Dj gig that they were both hired to play. In 1986, they collaborated on the Nu-Sound II Crew project. After developing a friendship with Juan Atkins, they became hip to the emerging new club sounds that were to become electro and techno. Their subsequent project, Series-A, was named after different car model numbers, but also hints at the evolution of humankind into a new species. In 1987, Series-A recorded the single "Evolution ⁵ Technology" at Spectrum Sounds Studio in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Their set up was a vocoder, E-mu Emulator III, Roland 909 drum machine, and an Otari 24-Track recorder. They landed a record deal with Satellite Records in Burbank, California, which had been founded by Pete Moore of The Miracles. After pressing 50 promotional copies, the label ran into financial problems, and the record never reached a full release. Taking cues Kraftwerk, Grand Master DST, Grandmaster Flash & Jam Master Jay, Series-A created dark electro beats in an era when sampling appeared to be the future of music. Lyrically the song addresses our species' entry into the technological age. For this ep reissue, the '7" Mix' and 'Dub Mix' are included on the A-side. On the flip is a new remix by prolific Ann Arbor producer JTC, an alias of Tadd Mullinix (aka Dabrye, SK-1, & Charles Manier). JTC speeds up and expands the song to 7 minutes. Drawing on influences from Ron Hardy to Jeff Mills, he drives around suburban techno landscapes while simultaneously launching the listener into deep space. The jacket is specially designed by Eloise Leigh and features a cyborg fossil motif with RGB color band and gradients. Each copy includes a post card with with notes.

The 2 met at City Music record store where Talla 2XLC worked and supplied the local Dj scene with dance 12"s. From 1984 to 1991 they released 6 maxi 12" singles. Both members were leading figures in the European electronic scene during the 80's and 90's, forming bands like Bigod 20, Tribantura, Micro Chip League, Moskwa TV, Pluuto and Robotiko Rejekto. In 1988 they released the maxi 12" single "You" on ZYX Records/Combeat. Influenced by Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and John Foxx, the duo crafted their own brand of industrial, synth-pop and EBM. Space Art was the French electronic duo of Dominique Perrier (keyboards, vocoder) and Roger Rizzitelli (drums, percussion). Between 1977 and 1981, they released 3 albums of comsic synth-pop, in which they laid much groundwork for French electronic music to follow. After their 3rd album in 1981, they toured around the world with Jean Michel Jarre in support for his 'Concerts In China' album. Space Art's 3rd single "Nous Savons Tout" was released in 1978 on IF Records. Their sound was similar to Jarre's early analog albums, but with the addition of real drums. Dominique plays an ARP Odyssey, Clavinet, Eminent, and Minimoog, maximizing their warm textures. Roger plays the drums in an intricate fashion, influenced subtly by jazz fusion. "Nous Savons Tout" features an early prototype of the Vocoder, which the band used to create the chorus. On the flip is the slower "Melodie Moderne", an electronic take on progressive 70's rock. Both tracks were recorded at Studio Ferber Paris in June 1978. Like Richard Pinhas/Heldon and Yellow Magic Orchestra, Space Art created their own brand of dark space disco, paving the way for bands like Air and Mellow. The record comes in a sleeve featuring the original cover art of a firefighter crossing a burnt landscape, painted by Gilles Lacombe. Each LP includes a postcard with liner notes by surviving member Dominique Perrier. The sounds here evoke a Parisian noir thriller set in a discotheque circa '78. Dario Dell'Aere is a new-wave musician, producer and singer from Milan, Italy. At the end of the 70's Dario performed in a mime show influenced by the glam cliches of David Bowie. In 1979, he met Victor Life outside a cinema, and began a lifelong collaboration of projects: Diamond Dogs, Ice Eyes and Fockewulf 190. Musically, the duo were inspired by the Human League's 'Reproduction' and John Foxx's 'Metamatic', while they took visual cues from the new romantics Visage and Ultravox. With the Fockewulf 190 moniker, they created their own dark blend of italo-disco and new-wave, and released the hit singles "Gitano" and "Body Heat" in 1984. At the end of 1984, the duo took a break, and Dario went into the studio to record his debut solo single. "Eagles In The Night" was released in 1985 on Market Record, and is one of the most coveted italo-disco 12"s. Clocking in at over 8-minutes, the song features xylophone-esque synth hooks and Dario's powerful, booming vocals. Dario sings of a spirit that flies on high, searching for a partner in true love. Backing vocals were provided by Dario's sister, Nora Dell'Aere. On the B-side is a shorter instrumental version with the occasional 'oh wacky co-co' from Dario. The sleeve is an exact replica of the original 1985 edition, which features a black and white drawing by Dario's wife, Tiziana Dell'Aere. Brand Image is a trio formed in Bergamo, Italy in 1983. Created by the same group of musicians as their previous project Some Bizarre. The line-up is Marino Scarabelli (music, producer), Tiberio 'Tyber' Scarfone (arrangement, producer) and Stefano Brignoli (lyrics) and vocalist Mauro Farina. Originally, Stefano sang the song but his performance was too close to the brand new Some Bizarre single, so they recruited Mauro for distinction. "Are You Loving" was recorded at Regson Studio in Milan in 1983 and released on Il Discotto the same year. Similar in approach to Some Bizarre, the song's music was composed by Marino as lyrics were written by Stefano with sitting on the sofa in the studio. The band created their signature sound using a Mini Moog, Prophet 5, Korg Synthesizer, Linn Drum. Mauro's vocals are warm as he aggressively debates internally going out dancing or staying in and ordering take out. Where "Don't Be Afraid" ”was the trio's 1st experience at songwriting, "Are You Loving"” became a popular hit and gave the group strength and enthusiasm to continue this musical path. Tiberio was a fan of the Italian pop group Pooh” and their song "Non Siamo In Pericolo" ”had a solo break with an electric guitar and background bells that section inspired the guitar and claps solo in "Are You Loving". Enrica Danesi makes a return appearance with her signature call-and-response back up vocals during the chorus. On the B-side is the instrumental version with extended breaks, drum claps and dubbed out bass lines. The vinyl comes housed in an exact replica of the original 1983 edition with bright yellow and magenta line graphics against a black background. 16-track compilation of UK DiY/synth/new-wave/post-punk originally released in 1980. The album showcases 9 bands from the thriving post-punk scene in Scunthorpe and the North of England. Operating on a shoestring budget, co-producers Chris Leaning and Paul Singleton (both of One Gang Logic), released 'Household Shocks' on Stark Products, a label they founded in 1979. At almost 50 minutes of music, the album took 4 weeks to produce at the Studio Playground in Lincoln. It was supported heavily by the late Radio 1 DJ John Peel. In july 1980 Paul Singleton and Chris Leaning opened a record shop in Lincolnshire, England. It opened under the name 'All Tomorrow's Parties', but later moved to the city center and was renamed 'Parade'. Through their growing local music scene and the separation of economic classes, their shop became the hangout for the local punk movement. It was there that the idea for 'Household Shocks', a compilation of their friend's bands, was born. Thunderboys offer 3 punky pop blazers and feature Carmel McCourt who who subsequently achieved chart success with her band Carmel. Product Of Reason contribute 3 haunting synthesizer heavy numbers. Sinking Ships supply 2 tracks of off-kilter dubbed out angst. Juveniles provide 2 power pop jams. Mystery Girls supply 1 track of quirky post-punk that recalls The Prats. Defectors, a female fronted quartet featuring COUM Transmissions affiliate Tony Menzies, grant us 1 superb track of somber gothic new-wave. Fault 151 serve a slice of wistful Flying Nun-esque indie pop featuring a 14-year old bassist. Urbantech, a short-lived synth-punk outfit, deliver one delirious track. One Gang Logic contribute 2 metallic synthesizer drenched pieces and close the album with a somber atmosphere. The vinyl comes housed in replica of Chris Leaning's original jacket design, which features a black and white photograph of a doll shocked by a vacuum cleaner. Each LP includes a copy of the double sided 11x11 insert that was included with the original pressing.

gefangene vögel / LP

Lunapark is the trio of Burkhard Ballein, Klaus 'Schlips' Gebauer, Reinhard 'Zoppen' Benisch from Wuppertal, Germany. Formed in 1981 when the boys were dissatisfied with their surrounding musical environment. They packed their instruments and a cassette recorder and set off to create their own brand of Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW 'New German Wave'). Their influences included The Beatles, Colloseum, Roxy Music, Frank Zappa as well as Sex Pistols, Ian Dury & The Blockheads, Blondie and The Cure. 'Gefangene Vögel' ('Prisoner Birds') is their debut album released by Intakt-Records, Stuttgart in 1982. Utilizing a simple set up of guitar, bass, drums, drum-computer, Korg MS-10 and Korg MS-20 they recorded 10 tracks that make up the album. Songs bridge the Belgian-type industrial and cold sounds with NDW quirkiness. In the vein of Sad Lovers and Giants, and Schleimer K they blend post-punk and new-wave music with electronic influences. All songs are sung in German with monotone vocals and epitomized the urban Zeitgeist of the Cold War. The vinyl comes housed in a replica of the original jacket design, which features a drawing of birds on a grid. There are 4 different color versions of the screen printed jacket: blue, yellow, turquoise and here in magenta. Each LP includes a copy of the double sided 11x11 insert that was included with the original pressing with lyrics and photos.

dirty songs / 12"

4-track ep by Swiss musician Carlos Perón, founding member of Yello. Carlos was born in 1952 in Zurich and began collecting music at a young age. Inspired after attending a concert of Karlheinz Stockhausen in the 60's, he began to compose Musique Concrete pieces using a 4-track reel to reel and found sounds. In 1979 Perón founded the trio Yello with musician Boris Blank and vocalist Dieter Meier. Yello released their 1st album in 1980 and the following year Carlos released his 1st solo album 'Impersonator'. In 1983 Carlos left Yello in order to pursue a solo career and released the soundtrack to 'Die Schwarze Spinne' and 1984 his 2nd solo album 'Nothing Is True; Everything Is Permitted'. In 1988, Belgian label LD Records released a 4-song ep of instrumental tracks from 1984 that predated, influenced and became staples in the New Beat scene. 'Dirty Songs' is a collection of songs from Carlos Perón recorded between 1980 and 1986. The recordings were made with the core set up of an ARP 2600, Roland's Drumatix, TB-303 and TR-808. "Nothing Is True; Everything Is Permitted (Instrumental)" recorded in 1984 is a slow burner with dark, gloomy atmospherics, presented here in an extended version with a bonus intro. The song was inspired by William S. Borroughs' 'Naked Lunch' and paints a bleak futuristic landscape. "Breaking In (Instrumental)", from 1984, is a crossover of electronic body music and pitched down Chicago acid house featuring overplayed snares by hand though an Ovomaltine Box. Originally featured on the soundtrack for 'Die Schwarze Spinne', the song is about breaking into a large pharmaceutical company to steal drugs. On the B-side is "A Dirty Song (Instrumental)", originally recorded in 1986 and released by Play It Again Sam in 1988. The song uses one of the earliest Roland SH synthesizers, the SH-1 A, as a solo instrument and is strikingly aggressive with percussive rhythms. "Et" was recorded in 1980 on a 4-track and later and remixed to 8-tracks in 1984 for the 'Frigorex' ep, which is where this extended version comes from. Featuring eerie, cut up vocals and Dadaist lyrics by Isa Nogara atop a proto-techno beat. The jacket features a never before seen black and white photo of Carlos taken in 1988. Each album includes an double-sided postcard featuring the cover art from the 'Frigorex' ep. Prepare to make your own movie to the Swiss John Carpenter soundtrack vibes of Carlos Perón.
