rituals / LP

Twilight Ritual's 'Rituals' album is one of the best kept secrets of the synth-pop / coldwave movement. Sinister, dark and a bunch of touching melodies. Peter Bonne & Geert Coppens had already been playing for a few years in other projects such as Autumn, Linear Movement and in 1985 they managed to create this stunning album. Highlights on the album include "I Never Called You A Dream", "Rooms", "Amorphous Materials", "Closed Circuit" and.. well every other track. When the LP was originally released by some awkward mistake the artwork was printed in reverse (black became white and white became black). The artwork is now restored to its original form, how it was intended to be. This album was born at the height of the analogue era, when Geert and Peter collected as much synths and recording devices as they could get their hands on. Using the all-time favorite TR808 as rhythm provider, sequencers and synces effects formed the basics for a unique sounding album. Sounds were processed in every possible unintended way, recording layer over layer with voices, guitars and doubled keyboards and solos. Edition of 500 copies. Be fast on this one ;)

austerton / LP

Much-needed re-issue of this privately released 2007 album. Martial Canterel's Sean McBride is the progenitor of American cold synth sounds of the 21st Century. He began under the moniker Moravagine before he started releasing limited edition cassettes and playing Brooklyn dives as Martial Canterel in 2002. Since then, McBride's bleak intellectual exercises in the dark and danceable have flooded North America and Europe through the frosty fairwaves paved by Pieter Schoolwerth's Wierd Records. With an inimitable minimal style merging bright, urgent melodies ornamented and punctuated by the noises of industry and McBride's sonorous, stern vocals, Martial Canterel's earlier releases (You Today, Refuge Underneath) have garnered both critical acclaim and a rapidly growing rabid fan base. Sean is also one half of the duo Xeno & Oaklander together with Miss Liz Wendelbo. The album 'Austerton' consists of some of his earliest work recorded in 2003. The 10 minimal synth songs on the LP are reminiscent of music by bands like Dark Day, Snowy Red, A Blaze Colour, League Of Nations. Through the collision of a uniquely humanistic means of production via live analogue synthcraft expertly paired with vocals and lyrics that reflect the pitfalls and pleasures of our age, Martial Canterel provides a visceral kick best felt on the dancefloor, amidst a flurry of flesh in motion. Limited edition of 1000 copies with double-sided insert !!

in the grassfield / LP

Palais Des Bauzards persued an industrial and electronic variant of the sound that swept into vogue during the 1st half of the 80's. This compilation digs into the original material provided by the band and offers an amazing selection from start to finish. The sometimes rudimentary though gripping tracks on the 1st side are emblematic for their early period, for example "Money" a song driven by a screeching rhythm box, distant guitar lines and a nonchalant voice. Cabaret Voltaire comes to mind. They're not afraid to experiment and to explore new horizons (the track "Lies"). The 2nd side shows a more developed darkwave sound with "In The Grassfield" and "Knowing Too Much" both produced by legendary Belgian producer Ludo Camberlin. On top of this there are 2 dark goth rock stomper hidden in the selection, they hide by the names "My Life Is A Sin" & "Eat Out Of My Hands". Overall it's a broad selection of tracks which show the capability of the band to do something different with the new wave genre. Initially the band was formed in 1983 in the Belgian city of Leuven by Danny Jacobs, Dirk Van Regenmortel, Chris Serré, Frank De Wit and Rudy Stuyckens. In 1983 they released 2 tracks on the Mask Live LP together with Front 242. In the 3 following years many of their home recorded tracks were published on a bunch of cassette labels. Since the beginning of the 21st century, many Palais Des Bauzards tracks can be found on playlists around Europe and the USA and are being reissued on LPs. Most recently on the compilation albums 'Underground Wave Vol. 4' and 'Distant Waves'. Limited edition of 500 copies

matter / LP+7"

Lassigue Bendthaus is the electro-industrial project of Uwe Schmidt (aka Atom or Seńor Coconut) from Germany. Uwe Schmidt began making music in the early 80's, 1st playing drums, then switching to programming a drum computer after he had heard a Linn Drum on the radio. In 1986 he co-founded the cassette label N.G. Medien, on which his 1st musical work under the name Lassigue Bendthaus, 'The Engineer's Love', was released. Soon after, he started to work on what would become his 1st official record release, the album 'Matter'. The recordings and production began in 1986 and took almost 4 years, until the album finally came out in 1991 on the German Parade Amoureuse label. Musically somewhere between late industrial and EBM, yet already anticipating acid and techno, this production managed to cause quite a stir, due to its advanced production techniques. Songs pay strong homage to Kraftwerk, approaching the early industrial dance scene with a softer sequential approach than most of his contemporaries. 'Matter' is a hermetic reflection about the relationship between perception, nature, science, technology and labor. This reissue comprises the entire 1991 'Matter' LP, as well a bonus 7" record containing 2 tracks never before released on vinyl. The vinyl is housed in a jacket featuring the photographic traces of a high-energy photon hitting a proton. Each LP includes a 2-sided insert with original album reviews, press clippings, liner notes by Atom and photos..

ethidium bromide / 7"

Death Domain (aka Adam Stroupe) is a science nerd from Baltimore and wears it as a badge of honor. His sound is undoubtedly one of the most bewildering, disorienting yet magnetic and infectious slices of downright bleak takes on synth-based dance music. A one man all-live-analogue electronic ice machine (who is also behind the likes of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). His sound is as cryptically raw as it gets; summoning the seminal industrial / EBM sounds of the likes of early Cabaret Voltaire, Skinny Puppy, and The Normal. Repress edition. Tip !!!

Following the 1st few incarnations and various lineups of Dark Day; 1981 saw the direction of the project morphed into an electronic keyboard duo of Robin Crutchfield and Bill Sack with an album of 9 songs originally released on Plexus Records. Lyrics were inspired by various sources including occult texts by Colin Wilson and art by Leger, Bruegel, Malevich, Man Ray, Duchamp and Jean Cocteau. The mechanized sound of "Window" is less one of the man machine robots in charge of Kraftwerk than man at the mercy of his machines. The infectiously-engaging toy-like instruments captured the ears of fans worldwide with popcorn drum rhythms. A Synare borrowed from Jeff and Jane Hudson lent a "Bette Davis Eyes" homage and crack to the percussion on the percolating tracks. The instant polaroid images, an homage to Japanese recording artist Susan of "The Girl Can’t Help It" adorned the album sleeve in 2 stark headshots of musicians at work, haunted by the unseen. Is the window something you look out, or in? You must answer that question.. 3rd repress edition release!

Originally the band also included Stephan Eicher who co-wrote 2 songs but departed before the band recorded their debut album. Starter began in the city of Bern when Francis, Claudine and Jet decided to create their own brand of new-wave music inspired by Gary Numan and Kraftwerk. They released their debut, self-titled album in the summer of 1981, making this summer the 30th anniversary of this long out-of-print and extremely hard to find Lp. All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley in 2011. Each Lp includes a lyrics sheet with unreleased photos and a Starter badge/button. Not to be missed ;)

ljubav je hladnija od smrti / LP

Borghesia is an electronic music group from Ljubljana (Slovenia), created in 1982 by Aldo Ivancic and Dario Seraval who were members of the alternative theater troupe FV-112/15. Along with Laibach, Borghesia is the most successful band from the territory of former Yugoslavia who launched the activist movement and managed to turn sexual freedom into an important political issue by creating the New Slovenian Art scene. After 2 cassette-only releases the band recorded their debut vinyl lp "Ljubav Je Hladnija Od Smrti" ("Love Is Colder Than Death") during the winter of 1983-84. The band was eager to use early sampling techniques to construct tracks from cut up radio noises and movie dialogue. They developed their own brand of EBM that combined symphonic synthesizers (Korg PolySix), funky basslines, military drum beats (Roland TR-808) and harsh, crisp sequenced rhythms that repeat in trance-like loops (Roland TB-303). All songs are sung/recited in Croatian and use the imagery of the prohibited, tabooed and repressed. Equal parts Chris & Cosey, Cabaret Voltaire, Art of Noise and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. All tracks have been remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studio in Berkeley. Pressed on blood red vinyl, each disc is manufactured with its own unique pattern: no 2 discs are identical. Each lp is housed in an exact replica of the original large 6-panel fold out poster with lyrics and photos. Limited to 1000 hand-numbered copies !

Group: Xex ultimately plays out like some strange cry from the distant past, or alternately, a document sent back to us from some very bizarre future. Alternating male and female vocals chant some of the most strangely humorous lyrics over the 12 tracks, as synthesizers buzz and twinkle over metronomic drumbeats. This is some of the most minimal of all minimal synth records (there's no dancefloor fillers here), yet fans of bands like Crash Course in Science, Ceramic Hello, Experimental Products, or even Devo enthusiasts wondering what all this minimal synth hubbub is about will find a lot to love here. The design is a fantastic reproduction of the original Lp, and the album comes with an awesome 'zine packed full of photos and information about Xex. A really stellar reissue!

exterminating angel / LP

Huge reissue of Dark Day's 1st album 'Exterminating Angel' originally released in 1980 on Lust/Unlust. Dark Day is the minimal electronics brainchild of Robin Crutchfield following his separation with no-wave band DNA. Growing up in rural Pennsylvania, Crutchfield was fascinated with both performance art and the most esoteric edges of pop music. After making his escape to New York City in the mid-70's, he was inspired by Yoko Ono's Plastic Ono Band and Lydia Lunch's Teenage Jesus & The Jerks. He made the transition into the new music of downtown Manhattan and formed the no-wave band DNA with Arto Lindsay and Ikue Mori in 1977. In 1979 Crutchfield left DNA to pursue a series of musical projects under the name Dark Day. His 1st album, 'Exterminating Angel' is named after the Luis Bunuel film of the same name. All 13 songs on this LP use cheap synthesizers to create cyclical, machine-like keyboard riffs as a foundation for the moody, Teutonic music. Crutchfield sings like a lost member of Kraftwerk with a dry detachment creating a starker and chillier atmosphere. Lyrics were derived from cut-up methods similar to those used by the surrealists, fluxus artists, and William Burroughs and Bryon Gysin and pit the subjected against their torments and tormentors. All songs on 'Exterminating Angel' were originally recorded at Sorcerer Sound, NYC. 1979 and produced by Charles Ball. Each LP includes a two-sided fold out poster containing lyrics, photos and lyrical explanations by Robin Crutchfield. Dark Day continue to inspire the current wave of stark, eerie, processional synthesizer music more than 30 years later. Must-Have!

flesh / 2x12"

Dark Entries & Captured Tracks have teamed up to re-issue this gold gem from the 80's, in a deluxe edition remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley directly from the original master tapes. Lp 1 is the 'Flesh' Lp and Lp 2 features the "No Clubs" and "Special World" singles plus the 'World Trade' ep. Jeff & Jane Hudson are a husband/wife duo from Boston who got their start in the art punk band The Rentals in 1977. The Rentals broke up in 1980 and Jeff & Jane relocated to Manhattan where they opened for Suicide and quickly signed with no-wave label Lust/Unlust. Their 1st single "No Clubs" was released in late 1980 and showcased a lo-fi avant garde all synthesizer band. The 'World Trade' ep came next in 1981, expanding their brand of post-nuclear electronic pop. Their vocals qualities were distinct; Jeff quivery and drug-addled while Jane more detached and icy. The duo reached their pinnacle with 1982′s seminal 'Flesh' Lp. Perhaps one of the US biggest achievements in the entire synth movement of the 80's. The music was electro-pop with Jeff's lyrics flirted with technology and politics, while Jane wrote about cultural and psychological situations. Completely self produced by the band, the record has since been oft-cited as a groundbreaking and pivotal Lp of the post-punk era, who's original copies are now heavily coveted by collectors. Completing the discography is the 'Special World' 7" released in 1983 before the band emigrated back to Boston and stopped recording and performing. Each double Lp set comes in a gatefold sleeve with unreleased photos, original artwork and a lyrics sheet. Masterpiece !!

Parade Ground has always been the duo of brothers Jean-Marc and Pierre Pauly from Brussels formed in 1981. 'The Golden Years' is an 11-song, career-spanning collection of Parade Ground’s long out-of-print 7" and 12" singles as well as rare compilation tracks from the pioneers of emotional body music created during 1982-88. cuadro sinóptico / 12"

A 4-song compilation from one of the finest groups of the Spanish new-wave/techno-pop scene of the 80's: Vocoder. Keyboardists Antonio Laval, Alfonso Olarte, Antonio Tenas met while attending university, and were later joined by vocalist Pilar Pellicer. They recorded several demos with synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines, creating a soundtrack for the clubs and dancefloors. After sending demos to various record companies, they signed a deal with Aviador Dro's sublabel Neón Danza and released 2 ep's, 'What Happens Now / Radio' in 1984, "Mindanao / Amor de Robot' in 1985 and a self-titled lp which was produced by Michel Huygen (Neuronium) in 1987. 'Cuadro Sinóptico' compiles both 2-song 12" maxi singles as one 4-song ep. All 4 songs were recorded during 1984-85 using the most advanced and sophisticated techniques of time in digital recording and Direct Metal Mastering (DMM). Genuinely catchy, Vocoder combined soaring melodies with cybernetic coldness. A futuristic sound for the modern age topped with Pilar's charismatic vocals. Lyrically they address robotic love, disco dancing, and the tropical island of Mindanao, and sing in Spanish, English and French. Each LP includes a double-sided insert with photos, lyrics and liner notes by Flemming Dalum, a Danish Dj who introduced much of the world to Vocoder in 2008 on his 'French Spanish Italo Connection' mix. X-Ray Pop are the synth-pop duo of Doc Pilot and Zouka Dzaza from Tours, France. They got their start in the no-wave art group Bocal 5 in 1981 and split off in 1984 to focus on their own brand of quirky synthesized electronics. Influenced by Erik Satie, Brigitte Bardot, Suicide and Young Marble Giants, they call their music 'minimum naive new-wave'. Armed with a Casio PT-20 keyboard and a rudimentary Yamaha MR10 drum machine they recorded their demo cassette and 1st 7" "Eurasienne / La Machine ŕ Ręver" in 1984. Upgrading their synthesizers and adding some saxophone and guitar, they recorded the "Alcool / Amazone" 7" in 1985 and the "DS / El Gato" 7" in 1986. "The Dream Machine" collects X-Ray Pop's 1st 3 7" singles plus 8 songs from their demo cassette, never released on vinyl before. Their songs are short, concise and well structured; richly textured, moving at a quick speed with hardly a pause. The demos show a sense of humor, vitality and carefree playfulness. Zouka's pouting, tongue-in-cheek vocals (sung in French) come together for a catchy, sensuous, danceable, eccentric psychedelic ride. Reminiscent of the Mo-dettes, early OMD or Algebra Suicide, X-Ray Pop could be the missing link to Stereolab. All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley directly from the original master tapes. Each LP comes in a neon yellow jacket with an 8 page booklet full of unreleased photos, original artwork and lyrics. 28 years later, this is the first time since the original issue that the songs of X-Ray Pop are reappearing on vinyl again, but is the world ready ?

hands in the dark / 12"

Dark Day is the minimal electronics brainchild of Robin Crutchfield following his separation with no-wave band DNA. For the 1st incarnation of Dark Day, Robin recruited Nina Canal from The Gynecologists and later UT on guitar and Nancy Arlen from Mars on drums. They recorded 2 songs for a 7″ single, released in 1979 on Charles Ball's Lust/Unlust label. Off-kilter jerk-like guitar and energetic acrobatic tom-tom tumbling fuse with queasy lurching keyboards and 'cold medicine' vocals. This single stepped away from no wave towards what was going on in the U.K. with The Normal, Robert Rental and Throbbing Gristle. After this single Dark Day would regroup with Robin on synthesizers and vocals, Phil Kline on guitar, Barry Friar on drums and guest Steven Brown of Tuxedomoon on saxophone to record the 'Exterminating Angel' album. In 1981, the song "Trapped" was released as a 12" ep backed with "The Exterminations (1 Thru 6)". For these 6 instrumental tracks, Robin went back into the studio with the master tapes, flipped them over and played them backwards. Altering track assignments, speed and reverb effects, he rode the faders in and out, creating short "Exterminations" of the original songs. The result is Crutchfield's favorite Dark Day release. The vinyl comes housed in jacket featuring a self-made cartoon of Robin Crutchfield to announce the release of the 7" in 1979. Each LP includes a double sided 11×17 fold-out poster with lyrics and photos and song notes by Robin and Nina Canal. dance to a dangerous beat / LP

Informatics were a post-punk electronic band from Melbourne, Australia formed in 1981. Michael Trudgeon, Valek Sadovchikoff, Steve Adam and Ramesh Ayyar met in the experimental sound studio while attending the same art school. Philip McKellar later joined the band in 1983. Between 1981 and 1985, Informatics recorded numerous tracks, mainly in a garage, using a 4-track tape machine and any electronic gear they could get their hands on. The band held a fascination for contemporary visual art and moving images and videos would accompany their live performances. The production elements in the videos reflected Informatics' philosophy on sound composition: the footage was entirely pirated from television ads, manipulated and then collaged to create new narratives that reinforced the music. Informatics came to work together through a shared fascination in electronic music and the capabilities of analogue synthesizers. In early performances, long before the advent of samplers, the Informatics used a collection of synthesizers and other analogue and hand built equipment. These were patched together to create a unique battery of sounds. Between january and november 1981 Informatics recorded their debut 4 song 'Dezinformatzia' ep but it was not released until 1983 . The track "Proximity Switch", later renamed "Accidents In Paradise" became popular in parts of Europe and was re-released in 1985. 'Dance To A Dangerous Beat' collects all 4 songs from the 1st ep, 2 songs from compilation appearances as well as 6 unreleased tracks on vinyl for the 1st time. Informatics early songs have a brittle, cold, disconnected feel made by a Roland SH-101, Korg MS-20 and a lot of processed guitar. The later songs utilize newer technology and ambient, synthesized melodies closer to their country mates Severed Heads. The vinyl comes housed in a full color printed jacket using the original magenta and grey artwork from 'Dezinformatzia' ep. Each LP includes a double sized 11x11 insert with photographs and liner notes by the band. 'Dance To A Dangerous Beat' recounts the history of these synth-punk pioneers a world away from their contemporaries in America.

'The Thing From The Crypt', is a 16-track compilation of UK Diy/synth/new-wave/post-punk originally released in 1981. Showcasing the thriving post punk sound of Watford, a town in Hertfordshire, England, located 20 minutes northwest of central London. 'The Thing From The Crypt' neither attempts to sell a Wotford sound nor claims to be a comprehensive guide to the area's best beat bands. Like all good compilations, its essence is variety: some tracks will make you come whilst other will make you vomit. This compilation features 8 bands with 2 songs included by each group. Exhibit A were a quartet featuring Mat and Dan from Solid Space and Paul and Andrew from Twelve Cubic Feet. Legendary post-punk act Sad Lovers & Giants make their 1st appearance here as a 5-piece. Mex was the solo project of Paul Mex, the man responsible for this compilation, who went on to produce songs for Wham and George Michael. Gambit Of Shame deliver driving carnival pop and would later work with ex-Soft Machine member, Robert Wyatt on their debut single. Flying Beechcraft serve a slice of wistful Flying Nun indie pop. Image In Ruin bounce between off-kilter NY no-wave skronk and angst. Soft Drinks were a short-lived synth-punk trio featuring the Jon Greville of Rudimentary Peni and Martin Drooper of The Magits who released a 3 song ep on Outer Himmylayan Productions. S-Haters were a deathrock quartet also on the Outer Himmylayan roster who channeled the gothic punk of Pil's "Metal Box" and Joy Division. The vinyl comes housed in a full color printed jacket using the original silk screened artwork. Each LP includes a copy of the 12 page booklet that came with the original pressing. signals from pier thirteen / 12"

Crash Course In Science are a post-punk band that formed in 1979 in Philadelphia. The band members, Dale Feliciello, Mallory Yago and Michael Zodorozny, met while attending art school. They began to experiment with crude electronics and off-beat writing. CCIS avoids conventional instrumentation by using toy instruments and kitchen appliances to augment the distorted guitar, drums and synthesized beats. Their 1st single, "Cakes In The Home" was released in 1979 and their 4-song 12" ep 'Signals From Pier Thirteen' in 1981. Pier 13 was an abandoned coal-loading pier along the Delaware River near where CCIS rehearsed. The band went there often and was inspired by the huge silent machinery, shapes, shadows, ghosts and debris. The songs 'Cardboard Lamb' and 'Flying Turns' quickly became club favorites during the early 80's. This ep's raw, percussive sound influenced both techno and industrial music in later years. CCIS feel a strong connection to Throbbing Gristle, although they consider themselves as working in a parallel universe rather than being influenced by them. The vinyl is housed in the original jacket featuring stark black and white photos of Pier 13. Each LP includes a double sided 11x11 insert with lyrics, photos of the band and the atmospheric pier. Crash Course In Science go above and beyond what is considered 'new-wave' in attitude and sound..

holland tunel dive / 12"

impLOG was the solo project of Don Christensen after leaving New York no-wave group The Contortions in 1979. He began making music using found sounds, a Univox drum machine, guitar stomp boxes, Casio keyboards and percussion instruments. Eventually Don gave a demo tape to Charles Ball at Lust/Unlust Records, who loved it, and released the 'Holland Tunnel Dive' b/w 'On B'way' 12" in 1980. "Holland Tunnel Dive" is a monotone lament, with a narrator reciting a list of all that is missing in his life along to a sparse, mechanical beat. A variable speed Milwaukee drill creeps its way into the song, eventually reaching cacophonous levels. After 4 minutes of industrial motorik, an upbeat saxophone riff breaks out unexpectedly, unsettling the listener even further. On the B-side is a deranged version of the Lieber and Stoller show tune "On Broadway", featuring lead guitar by Jody Harris of the Contortions. The record perfectly captures the dark and seedy vibe of downtown New York in the early 80's. The jacket is an exact replica of the original. On the front cover is an illustration of a hydraulic pump against a taxi-cab yellow background. Each copy includes a double sided insert with lyrics, never before seen photos and liner notes by Don Christensen. Strong record !

dark silence / 12"

Art Fine was the duo of Fabrice Bellini (electronics, vocals) and Rush Blakemann (guitar, synthesizer) from Tuin, Italy. They met in art school and became friends, inspired by new-wave, dance and electronic music. They recorded their only single "Dark Silence" in november of 1984, which was released by Discomagic in 1985. Fabrice programmed the electronic drums using SCI Drumtraks and added extra tracks on the Simmons SDSV. Rush played electric guitar and the Yamaha piano notes at the start of the song. Guest musicians Silvano Borgatta and Riccardo Rosa do the 'da da da da da' voice effect was done by engineer Gigi Guerrieri, who cut and spliced a tape rather than using a sampler, which was too expensive at the time. "Dark Silence" tells the love story of beautiful girl who Fabrice saw many times but could not reach. He called her 'Dark Silence', for her dark hair and eyes and the silence unwanted between them. The B-side features a remixed version with extended breaks and dubbed out bass lines and vocals. The vinyl is housed in the original jacket featuring a photo of the duo and that Art Fine logo in puzzle pieces. Each copy includes a double sided postcard insert with lyrics and liner notes by Fabrice Bellini. So actual !

walking in the neon / 12"

30th anniversary of the italo-disco club hit "Walking In The Neon". Peter Richard was the alias 1st adopted in 1979 by producer and vocalist Walter Beinat. His best known song was "Walking In The Neon", released as a maxi-single on Italian label Good Vibes in 1985. For this single Richard teamed up with the production duo of Gigi Farina and Franco Rago, best known for their projects Lectric Workers, Decadance, Expansives, and Wanexa. "Walking In The Neon" was written by Rago & Farina with help from Chuck Rolando, member of Italian disco group Passengers. The track's arrangement was done by Italian disco pioneer Celso Valli who wrote club classics for Macho, Azoto, Passengers and Tantra, to name a few. On the A-side is the 'Club' version, an uptempo classic that sounds like a dream encounter between mid-80's New Order and hi-NRG legends Patrick Cowley and Bobby Orlando. Clocking in at nearly 9 minutes, it is purely dancefloor oriented on an epic scale, with evolving hooks and melodies. The B-side features a shorter 'Dub' version with extended breaks and bass lines. Pressed on neon orange vinyl, as it was when originally released in 1985. Tip !

split / 12"

Reissue split ep of rare and out of print Detroit electro jams from Nu-Sound II Crew & Magnus II. Both were projects of mastermind Sam Anderson (aka Dj Maestro). Growing up on the westside of Detroit, Maestro joined the Marine Corps in 1979 and was turned on to electronic music. One of his fellow Marines was a Dj from Brooklyn who schooled Maestro on how to mix records, blending dance songs seamlessly. While stationed on base in california, he set up a Dj crew called Nu-Sounds and perfected his technical skills. He returned to Detroit in 1984 and auditioned for the electrifying Mojo on WJLB. It was there that he met the godfather of Techno, Juan Atkins, who introduced him to emerging new sounds of dance & party music. Juan showed him how to make and record music using a Roland 808 and 909, Linn Drum and a Boss DR-55 drum machine. In 1986 Maestro created a new alias for himself, Nu-Sound II Crew, by adding a roman numeral II to his former Dj crew name. That year he self-released his 1st 12" single 'The Speed Of Light' on Sound Wave Records. Only 500 copies were made and distributed by Juan Atkins' Metroplex Records. Influenced by Kraftwerk & Cybotron, Nu-Sound II Crew created fresh, fast, dark electro beats with tough drum machines and lyrics about traveling through outer space. A 2nd single was released that same year, "1001 Beats", a slower, deep and heavy vocoder track with guitar by Jerome Blackwell that riffs the 'Batman Theme' during the break. By the late 80's, Maestro was using different alias such as Sam a& Dave, Zetta, and Magnus II to make it look like a lot of artists were on his new label Steppin' Forward Records. Magnus II was named after guitarist Jeff Magnus who plays on the sole 12″ single from the project 'Roctronic / Space Age' released in 1993. For this EP reissue, all 3 original mixes of "Space Age" are included: LP version, dub, and remix. "Space Age" blends EBM rhythms with tough drum machine beats to create an electro hybrid somewhere between Belgium and Detroit. Each copy includes a post card with a photo of the Nu Sounds crew DJing in 1984..

and life is / LP

Moral was the trio of Marco Andreis (guitars, bass), Hanne Winterberg (vocals) and Ingolf Brown (synthesizers, rhythm box, sequencer) from Aarhus, Denmark formed in 1981. They released their debut mini-album 'Dance Of The Dolls' on cassette in 1981 and the album 'Whispering Sons' on cassette in 1982. The group played very few concerts, but supported both Monochrome Set & Nico. In May 1983, they contributed 3 songs to the Irmgardz Records sampler 'Somewhere Outside', a compilation featuring groups from outside of Copenhagen. During the summer of 1983, Moral recorded and produced their debut LP, 'And Life Is...' at Ingolf Brown's home studio. It was the 1st release on Ingolf's label ARP Gramophone in August 1984. Influenced by early 4AD Records, Joy Division, Brian Eno and Wire, the band crafted their own brand of Nordic melancholic post-punk. The album develops the band's signature sound of airy, glacial synthesizers with crepuscular guitar and serpentine melodies. The main synthesizers used are the primitive Roland TR-606 Drumatix, the percussion side-kick to the TB-303, plus the BOSS DR-55 Dr. Rhythm drum machine. Hanne's hauntingly beautiful vocals walk the line between germanic chill of Nico & Alison Statton of Young Marble Giants. Lyrical themes of cold nights and blossoming relationships paint a detailed picture of youthful life in Scandinavia. This deluxe edition contains 3 bonus tracks that originally appeared on the 'Somewhere Outside' compilation. The jacket is an exact replica of the original 1984 edition featuring a photo by Per Wiklund of a wave crashing into the sea. Each copy includes a double sided 11"x11" insert containing lyrics for each song and photos of the band. This reissue is dedicated to Ingolf Brown who passed away in 2012..

lost tracks vol. 1 / 12"

Miss Kittin & The Hacker are the electro duo of Caroline Hervé & Michel Amato from Grenoble, France. The pair met during the early 90's at a rave and soon after bought turntables and began Djing. In 1996, they began writing music heavily influenced by 80's synth and post-punk bands like Fad Gadget, DAF, Liaisons Dangeuresues, and Yazoo, as well as italo-disco. Bored by the techno scene at the time, they set out out to lighten the serious tone and bring a campy sexiness to the dour musical landscape. Upon hearing their demos Dj Hell signed them to his Munich-based International DJ Gigolo label and released their first 2 eps in 1998 and 1999. Their debut album 'First Album' was released in 2001. 'Lost Tracks Vol. 1' contains 4 previously unreleased demos recorded between 1997 and 1999. The duo fused 80's European new-wave/italo-disco with 90's Detroit electro acts like Le Car and Dopplereffekt. By utilizing verse-chorus structures, they playfully shook up the loop based hard techno and electro that was popular at the time. Their studio set up at the time was a Korg MS-20, Roland SH-101, TR-606, TR-808, Siel DK80, and Boss DR-660 drum machine. The songs are direct, spontaneous, seemingly improvised in places. Miss Kittin sings about falling in love with an alien, sexy nightlife in Berlin, and explicit S&M leather play, all in her cheekily derisive French accent. The vinyl comes housed in a glossy jacket featuring a black and white photo of the duo taken in 1996. Each ep includes a postcard with liner notes from Miss Kittin and The Hacker designed by Eloise Leigh. As Miss Kittin says of these demos, “We were naive, innocent, adventurous and we didn't expect anything in return”.. Their best work to date..

Sophomore ep from Bézier entitled 'Telomeres'. Bézier is the moniker of San Francisco musician Robert Yang, who also is part of the illustrious Honey Soundsystem crew. 'Telomeres' is the follow up to Bézier's debut ep 'Ensconced', released in 2013. The title relates to themes of time, science, analytics and procedures. Bézier integrates the refrains of Spanish new-wave and italo-disco with the attitude and aggression of underground styles like synth-punk and industrial. These 6 tracks were written, produced and mixed by Bézier at his home studio in San Francisco between 2014 and 2015, and feature the debut of his own vocals. The vinyl comes housed in a jacket featuring an illustration by in-house designer Eloise Leigh riffing on early 80's computer graphics. The matted sleeve is meant to resemble the side panels of early computing instruments like Macintoshes or the Commodore 64. Each ep includes a postcard with a photograph of actual telomeres captured by a microscope camera by the Blackburn Lab at UCSF. 'Telomeres' are life's building blocks, changing the lengths of chromosomes to determine lifespan. This music is an investigation of a future in which time elongates as well as contracts. experiments in incest / LP

Shoc Corridor was the London post-punk quartet of Paul O'Carroll (voice, synth), Andy Garnham (synth, bass, drum), Chris Davis (guitar, bass, e-bow) and Nogi Prass (synth) named after the Sam Fuller film from 1963. Chris met Nogi shortly after moving to London in 1979, started playing music together, fell madly in love and decided to form a band. They recruited Andy, who had previously played in a band with Steve Luscombe of Blancmange, and lyricist and vocalist Paul. A home studio was set up at Andy's flat in Notting Hill, where the band recorded and rehearsed. More interested in studio experimentation than live performance, the band only played a handful of gigs. Their influences were wide reaching: Kraftwerk, Neu, Cabaret Voltaire, Eno, PIL and Joy Division. Their equipment list included a Korg MS-20, Wasp, Pro-One, Roland TR-808, WEM Copicat, guitars, bass, e-bow and an assortment of effects pedals. The crucial 5th member of the band was, of course, a TEAC reel-to-reel 4-track recorder. After recording a 4-song demo they were offered a deal by Shout Records. The debut 12" single, 'A Blind Sign', was released in autumn 1982 and the band booked a studio to record an album's worth of songs that winter. But Nogi received notification from the home office that she would have to leave the UK when her visa expired at the end of the year. Chris was faced with a dilemma: follow Nogi to Israel or continue with the band. Nogi & Chis recorded their tracks for the album and left London shortly after. Paul & Andy were left to complete the album at Ollie's Studio with Dutch engineer Paul Groothuis. It was titled 'Experiments In Incest' and released in march 1983. 6 songs, clocking in at almost 40 minutes, the album is largely instrumental pieces built around electronic rhythm tracks and layers of ethereal keyboard melodies. Evocative and dreamy, the music escorts you on a tour of icy landscapes, with Paul's occasional deep, rich vocals guiding the way. As one reviewer stated, this album is a "hypnotic electronic soundtrack music for a movie of the mind". Each LP comes in an exact replica of the original neon red jacket, featuring stick figure artwork by Paul O'Carroll. A 6-page booklet of liner notes, lyrics, photos and press clippings designed by Eloise Leigh is also included.

muscle up / 2x12"

Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem Records have teamed up again to release another volume of gay porn soundtracks by San Francisco-based musician and producer, Patrick Cowley. Perhaps one of the most revolutionary and influential people in the canon of disco music, Cowley created his own brand of hi-nrg dance music, 'the San Francisco sound'. Born in Buffalo, NY on october 19, 1950, Patrick moved to San Francisco at the age of 21. He studied at the City College of San Francisco where he founded the Electronic Music Lab. During this time, Patrick, along with his classmates Maurice Tani and Art Adcock, would create radio jingles and electronic pieces using the school's equipment: 1st a Putney, then an E-MU System, and finally a Serge synthesizer. He would make experimental soundtracks by blending various types of music and adapting them to the synthesizer. By the mid-70's, Patrick's synthesizer skills landed him a job composing and producing songs for disco superstar Sylvester, including hits like "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)", "Dance Disco Heat" and "Stars". This helped Patrick obtain more work as a remixer and producer. His 18-minute long remix of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" and his production work with edgy new-wave band Indoor Life were both of particular note. By 1981, Patrick had released a string of dance 12" singles, like "Menergy" and "Megatron Man". He also had founded Megatone Records and released his debut album, 'Menergy'. Around this time Patrick was hospitalized and diagnosed with a then-unknown illness: that which would later be called AIDS. Throughout 1982, he recorded 2 more hi-nrg hits, "Do You Wanna Funk" for Sylvester, and "Right On Target" for Paul Parker, as well as a 2nd solo album 'Mind Warp'. On November 12, 1982, he passed away. In 1979 Patrick was contacted by John Coletti, owner of famed gay porn company Fox Studio in Los Angeles. Patrick jumped on this offer and sent reels of his college compositions from the 70's to John in LA. Coletti then used a variable speed oscillator to adjust the pitch and speed of Patrick's songs in-sync with the film scene. 'Muscle Up' is a collection of Cowley's instrumental songs recorded between 1973 & 1980 found in the Fox Studio vaults. This compilation also includes bonus compositions found in the basement of Megatone Records owner John Hedges and the attic of former bandmate Maurice Tani. Influenced by Tomita, Wendy Carlos, and Giorgio Moroder, Patrick crafted an electronic sound from his collection of synthesizers, percussion, modified guitars, and hand-built equipment. The listener enters a world of forbidden vices evocative of Patrick's time spent in the bathhouses of San Francisco. The songs on 'Muscle Up' are divided into 4 sides, each showcasing a different facet of Cowley's work. Side 1 opens with an ambient journey through the Amazon. Tension builds on side 2, with the instrumental demo version of the slow-chugging masterpiece "I Need Somebody To Love Tonight". On sides 3 & 4 things go interstellar with ecstatic space-funk and galactic workouts. Featuring 75 minutes of music, this compilation contains soundtrack music from 2 Fox Studio films, 'Muscle Up' & 'School Daze', plus additional songs from the same era, never before released on vinyl. The tapes were restored and transferred using the same speed and pitch settings. The vinyl comes housed in a extra wide spine jacket and giant fold-out poster featuring a handmade collage using photography and xerox graphics of classic gay porn imagery from the Fox Studio vaults by Berlin-based artist Gwenael Rattke with an essay from Maurice Tani. For Patrick's 65th birthday, Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem Records present a glimpse into the futuristic world of a young genius. These recordings shine a new light on the experimental side of a disco legend who was taken too soon.

jump over barrels / 12"

Crash Course In Science are a post-punk band formed in 1979 in Philadelphia. The band members, Dale Feliciello, Mallory Yago and Michael Zodorozny met while attending art school. They began to experiment with crude electronics and off-beat writing. CCIS avoids conventional instrumentation by using toy instruments and kitchen appliances to augment the distorted guitar, drums and synthesized beats. Their 1st single "Cakes In The Home" was released in 1979 and their 4-song 12" ep 'Signals From Pier Thirteen' in 1981. 'Jump Over Barrels' was recorded at the Third Story Studio in Philadelphia in 1981, one year after 'Signals From Pier Thirteen'. The songs remained unmixed and unreleased at that time for a proposed album titled 'Near Marineland'. Lyrically the song tackles overcoming obstacles, be them self imposed or otherwise with vocals interplay between Michael and Mallory. On A-side are the original mix and a demo mix from 1981. Then on the flip is a brand new remix by prolific Ann Arbor producer Charles Manier, a pseudonym of Tadd Mullinix, who toughens up the track. Also included is an unreleased demo version of the song from 1980, possibly at its rawest and stripped down skeleton. Housed in a custom-made jacket by our in-house designer Eloise Leigh that incorporates abstract barrel symbols rolling in different positions with the jumping squiggles also changing accordingly riffs of synth knobs and sound wave visuals.

Wolfsheim are a synth-pop duo from Hamburg, Germany consisting of Markus Reinhardt (music) & Peter Heppner (lyrics and vocals). The band was founded in 1987 by Markus Reinhardt & Pompejo Ricciardi and was named after Meyer Wolfsheim, a fictional character from F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel 'The Great Gatsby'. Ricciardi soon left the band and was replaced by Peter Heppner, a childhood friend of Reinhardt's. Together they produced their 1st demo tape, 'Ken Manage', in 1988. After making a 2nd demo tape, 'Any But Pretty', in 1989, Wolfsheim applied at various labels until they caught the attention of independent record label Strange Ways Records. They are best known for their debut breakthrough single, "The Sparrows And The Nightingales", the 1st single to be released on Strange Ways in 1991. The band's musical style takes cues from the 80's new romantics, new-wave, synth-pop, and darkwave. The track's sombre synths were produced by Carlos Peron of Yello. Reinhardt says the lyric was inspired by 'The Great Gatsby', "in the 'onomatopoeic tension' between predator and security". Over 6 minutes, the narrator describes being lost, unsure of where his life is heading, using highly metaphorical language. On the flip is a brand new remix by German producer Ancient Methods, a pseudonym of Michael 'Trias' Wollenhaupt, who provides a driving, EBM-leaning, amphetamine-laced club ready cut. Designer Eloise Leigh has updated the record's original design with 2 sparrows enclosed in a blood moon circle against a deep black purple backdrop. Each copy comes with a black and white photo postcard notes by Carlos Peron and the song's lyrics. This release comes in time to celebrate the single's 25th anniversary.

Die Form is a French post-industrial and electronic band formed in 1977-1978. Die Form is the primary project of electronic musician and multimedia artist Philippe Fichot. He began by recording a number of experimental cassette releases in the late 1970s and formed the Bain Total label to release these early cassettes, as well as various side projects such as Krylon Hertz, Camera Obscura, Eva-Johanna Reichstag, Hurt and Fine Automatic. In 1982 Die Form released their debut vinyl album, 'Die Puppe' in a limited edition of 1000 copies. 'Zoo' is a compilation of 10 tracks recorded during the "Die Puppe" sessions from 1980-82. These were the 1st esoteric electronic experiments, often improvised. Underlying themes of eroticism, death, and other 'taboo' subjects become apparent in both the music and the album artwork, which Philippe also produced. The album was recorded with entirely analog equipment, including a Roland MC4 Micro-Composer, TR-808 Rhythm Composer, ARP 2600, and Kawai 60F recorded to a Revox B77 reel to reel tape machine. Songs range from hypnotic, minimalistic proto-IDM to daring experimental sound manipulation. 4 of these songs were featured as a bonus 7" to accompany the 1989 vinyl reissue of "Die Puppe" but remixed for the project. The remaining 6 songs were also remixed and released on CD in 2001. The front cover was designed by Eloise Leigh and features a black and white photograph by Philipe. 4-track ep by Swiss musician Carlos Perón, founding member of Yello. Carlos was born in 1952 in Zurich and began collecting music at a young age. Inspired after attending a concert of Karlheinz Stockhausen in the 60's, he began to compose Musique Concrete pieces using a 4-track reel to reel and found sounds. In 1979 Perón founded the trio Yello with musician Boris Blank and vocalist Dieter Meier. Yello released their 1st album in 1980 and the following year Carlos released his 1st solo album 'Impersonator'. In 1983 Carlos left Yello in order to pursue a solo career and released the soundtrack to 'Die Schwarze Spinne' and 1984 his 2nd solo album 'Nothing Is True; Everything Is Permitted'. In 1988, Belgian label LD Records released a 4-song ep of instrumental tracks from 1984 that predated, influenced and became staples in the New Beat scene. 'Dirty Songs' is a collection of songs from Carlos Perón recorded between 1980 and 1986. The recordings were made with the core set up of an ARP 2600, Roland's Drumatix, TB-303 and TR-808. "Nothing Is True; Everything Is Permitted (Instrumental)" recorded in 1984 is a slow burner with dark, gloomy atmospherics, presented here in an extended version with a bonus intro. The song was inspired by William S. Borroughs' 'Naked Lunch' and paints a bleak futuristic landscape. "Breaking In (Instrumental)", from 1984, is a crossover of electronic body music and pitched down Chicago acid house featuring overplayed snares by hand though an Ovomaltine Box. Originally featured on the soundtrack for 'Die Schwarze Spinne', the song is about breaking into a large pharmaceutical company to steal drugs. On the B-side is "A Dirty Song (Instrumental)", originally recorded in 1986 and released by Play It Again Sam in 1988. The song uses one of the earliest Roland SH synthesizers, the SH-1 A, as a solo instrument and is strikingly aggressive with percussive rhythms. "Et" was recorded in 1980 on a 4-track and later and remixed to 8-tracks in 1984 for the 'Frigorex' ep, which is where this extended version comes from. Featuring eerie, cut up vocals and Dadaist lyrics by Isa Nogara atop a proto-techno beat. The jacket features a never before seen black and white photo of Carlos taken in 1988. Each album includes an double-sided postcard featuring the cover art from the 'Frigorex' ep. Prepare to make your own movie to the Swiss John Carpenter soundtrack vibes of Carlos Perón.

transdance / 12"

All 4 mixes of "Transdance" by Night Moves as a tribute dedicated to the lives lost in the Oakland Ghost Ship fire on December 2, 2016. Night Moves was the brainchild of Michael Guihen, from South London. Inspired by seeing Tubeway Army perform on Top of the Pops in 1979 he placed an add to form a synth-based band in the NME. In November 1980 he was introduced to Denis Haines, formerly Gary Numan's keyboardist on the 'Telekon' album. Denis and Michael worked closely together, writing a number of backing tracks. One of these was the farewell song from Gary Numan to his band Tubeway Army, "Love Needs No Disguise". In exchange for this backing track, Denis gave Michael the studio time needed to develop "Transdance". The 1st version of "Transdance" was recorded in late Spring 1981 at Ridge Farm Studio in Surrey and within the week Michael had a recording deal with GC Recordings. This mix of "Transdance" was pressed onto a white label GC1 and was sent to clubs around Britain and Europe. In Summer 1981 he met John Davis (aka John Darc) also part West London's new romantic scene. They recorded the 2nd mix of "Transdance" at Matrix Studios in London early 1982, and John added the new bass line. This was titled 'U.K. Disco Mix' and released by GC Records. On this mix the backing vocals were sung by Eve Goddard, Adam Ant's ex-wife. In March 1983 Michael and John turned to New York's budding electro & hip-hop scenes to have Jay Burnett remix the 'New York Disco Mix'. Back in London, the duo disappeared into the cutting rooms at Utopia studios with Francis Usmar and emerged with the final dub edit 'Robot Rock'. All 3 later mixes were programmed with a Roland TR-808, some live drums, and one homemade handclap machine. "Transdance" was embraced by Chicago's WBMX, Hot Mix 5 and Ron Hardy as well in New York at Larry Levan's Paradise Garage and Tony Humphries' Club Zanzibar in New Jersey. It is considered a blueprint that traces the line from UK synth-pop to Chicago house and Detroit techno. Housed in the original jacket featuring a black and white photograph of 2 mannequins dancing set against a cantaloupe hue. Each copy includes a 2-sided 11" square insert with lyrics and drawings of all 36 victims of the Oakland Ghost Ship fire. Also included is a 6 page booklet with liner notes, original press kit sheets and photographs from the band's archive. 100% of all profits will be donated to the Oakland Fire Immediate Relief Fund.

1984 / 12"

Swedish visual and performance artist Tobias Bernstrup looks like a 21st century Klaus Nomi. His visual work is presented at exhibitions world wide. Next to that he is a gifted musician. He is able to create extremely catchy synth / electro-pop tunes while never crossing the line of delivering overproduced tracks. The sound of his tracks is like a hybrid of the arty side of Klaus Nomi with the pop side of Pet Shop Boys. This 4 track ep is built around the theme (and title track) "1984". But this theme is extended and made up to date. The Orwellian theme of total state control in which civilians are constantly watched and reality is manipulated is probably more actual as ever. This central theme is given a more individual and neo-romantic touch with the track "Light Years Apart", while the hostile state aspect is getting more of a sci-fi interpretation in "Enemies Of The Earth". Closing track "Data Love" combines the Orwellian sentiments of loneliness with the more contemporary vision on modern mankind of Houellebecq. The cover sleeve consis of 2 paintings by Tobias himself and fits the central theme perfectly. Despite the rather serious theme of the record this ep features simply excellent decadent music for the dancefloor. It combines elements of classic synth pop, electro, EBM, italo-disco and laser dance. There is no escape... You will have to love it !!!

Artist : Night Sins

new grave / LP

Born by members of hardcore bands Salvation and Mother Of Mercy, Night Sins is the aural proof that life does not walk so dark all over Europe alone. Emerging sometime around 2011 under the oppressive skies of Philadelphia, these overcast malcontents are fitly connected to a city engrossed in shadow-soaked vices and dilapidated architecture. Not to imply that there isn't a comforting sort of gloominess in this musical malaise as Night Sins frolic down a musical path originally cut by The Sisters of Mercy and Clan of Xymox, with enough hints of Pink Turns Blue, The Mission, and other extensions into 80's darkwave to produce memorable songwriting that stands on its own. Bass and drums punch through the mist thick as thieves, guitar lines circle like falcons overhead, minimal-synths street clean some of the residual dirt, and singer-songwriter Kyle Kimball's vocals confidently press through an intimate fog. There is a brilliant light in the midst of dimness, and Night Sins is carrying the torch. Comes on black vinyl with insert with band pics and lyrics.

besides the abyss / LP

Lebanon Hanover are among the most beloved protagonists of Fabrika. This is their 1st studio album and the forth to be released in an extraordinarily creative period of almost 3 years. This album reflects a process of musical maturing and self-knowledge, though inward-looking and intimate, it has no difficulties entering deep into the emotional world of the listener. Dominated by the voice of Larissa Iceglass, which embraces us like an unknown warmth coming straight from the blackest abyss, the elegance of the guitar parts, the sad bass and synthesizer melodies, the poetic tenderness of the lyrics, this album is of a unique hopeful but gloomy romantic. Besides the abyss is gorgeous and timeless. Lebanon Hanover hold the key to our soul as we all walk a path of failures and of heights. Their way of giving new breath to old structures, of expressing a universal emotion, is almost addictive and we consider ourselves lucky not having to live long without their music. The album consists of 10 new recordings. It has been written and performed by Larissa Iceglass & William Maybelline in Athens, may 2013. For the 1st time a guest musician goes with Lebanon Hanover in the studio, playing for the Moor the most sorrow-filled saxophone you've ever heard. Chris Manolitsis is the man behind the production, mixing and mastering, giving the final touch, intensifying these tracks exactly the way he did it in the early 80's. Vinyl comes with a unique album cover, lyrics and a free download code ;)

narin yalnizlik / LP

'Narin Yalnizlik' is the 2nd full-length album of She Past Away, whose debut album 'Belirdi Gece' is one of Fabrika's most cherished releases and a darkwave classic. 'Belirdi Gece' sold out almost immediately, they were praised in numerous reviews, filled clubs across the world and have gained a legend status in the contemporary darkwave, gothic and post-punk scene. Volkan is a uniquely gifted musician and Doruk a charismatic producer. Together they captured a feeling of delicate loneliness, they brought back the raw scent of the 80's and created this breathtaking, magnetic album. A dark jewel of 11 timeless tracks, where the strange accidents of fate find through these songs their way to our hearts and to the dancefloor. All tracks are composed and performed by Volkan, except the cover of "Gerçekten Özleyince" originally created by the epic Turkish band Kesmeseker and the adaptation of a Tobias Bernstrup composition "Uçtu Belirsizlige". The cover is a work of art, a painting of the artist Baris Malkoç. Includes a lyric innersleeve ;)

Qual is Lebanon Hanover's bassist and vocalist William Maybelline. To quote William's own words, Qual is about vile visions, despaired in a frowning black tower of pain. Concealed yearns of a desolate heart, trying to scratch that unscratchable rotting itch from within. Centuries of sorrow drenched in gloomy electronics that palpitate like human passions. synthetic woman

Artist : Gay Cat Park

Label : Medical Records LLC

synthetic woman / LP

Previously unreleased songs by an icon of italo-disco & synth-pop. Gay Cat Park is an Italian duo consisting of Graziano G. Ravizza & Davide Gatti. At the tender age of 14 with an obsession for electronics and a dream, they crafted the hit 'I'm A Vocoder'. Using very primitive toy-like keyboards modified to makeshift synthesizers early on, this masterpiece and floor-stomper was a success. Though they recorded many other records in the studio with other artists under a variety of different names in the more popular vein, there were sadly no further releases in the style of Gay Cat Park or under that moniker. Their tracks were home-recorded and not considered 'commercial' enough in those times. Influenced heavily by Kraftwerk, Tomita, and Depeche Mode, their tracks were astonishing and are presented now on this compilation of hand-picked tracks from that era. Overall, the LP has a very lovely Diy warm aesthetic. Limited edition of 650 hand-numbered copies and including a special insert with liner notes by Dave Segal. Essential !!!

electroconvulsive therapy vol.1

23.99€

Artist : Various

Label : Medical Records LLC

electroconvulsive therapy vol.1 / LP

1st compilation LP on Medical Records. A collection of extremely rare and sought after singles and rare tracks. It includes 5 complete A + B sides as well as 2 other tracks that only appeared on obscure compilations in the early 80's. The 1st 2 tracks are by UK's The Electronic Circus. featuring Chris Payne (who also performed synth work on the iconic 'Pleasure Principle' by none other than Gary Numan), the track "Direct Lines" is pure synth-pop perfection. The 2nd featured artist is Boston's Psychic Youth who released one lone 7" in 1982. One of the members, Perry Geyer, was also a founding member of the industrial outfit Manufacture. "Step In Time" and "The Future Is Now" are both dense minimal synth hits that have been remastered by Mr. Geyer himself. Another excruciatingly rare 7" is the self-titled single by UK's Aaah…! "Slip Away" and "Duty Calls" further fit the bill for moody minimal synth-pop greatness. Possibly even more rare is the Shazam single released in 1983 in the UK. Both tracks from the single are included here. The 2 "Wild Card" tracks if you will on the record are "Panic In Your Mind" by N.A. Pop 2000 (UK) and "Maske" by Berliner Strasse (Yugoslavia). Both tracks were plucked from rare wave compilations from the early 80s'. The final single featured is the solo outing by Claude Arto from Mathématiques Modernes. Released in 1981 on Celluloid (France), the 2 tracks drip synthetic bloops and blips while being propelled by rhythmic electro sequences. A perfect closing of each side of the LP. This collection will certainly appeal to fans of the rare minimal synth culture, early stripped down synth-pop, or anybody else who has wanted even one of these tracks on wax again as they are all quite rare. Limited 2017 repress edition on 180gr vinyl !

heute / 12"

Zwischenfall formed in 1982 with Michael Sass (synths), Martin Urban (bass/vocals) and Stephan Kraemer (guitar/drums); all of German descent. They were united by musical sensibilities that combined electronic and traditional instruments developing the basis for their 1982 demo recordings. By chance Patrick Codenys of the Belgian electro pioneers Front 242 heard 2 songs and decided to record a 4-song ep for the electro band’s newly formed label Mask. The "Heute" ep was released in 1983 after a week of recording in Front’s private studio under the direction of sound-whiz Daniel B. Bearing in mind Midi had not been invented at the time, the recording involved some extensive sound sculpting including the use of individual synths for separate drum sounds. To create an organic feel to the combination of acoustic and electric guitar, a trumpet and a bass were incorporated into the electronic arrangements. Sonically way ahead of their time, Zwischenfall have a distinct sound with hard rhythms and melancholic melodies that blend minimal yet catchy electronics to create a very danceable production. The ep also features 2 bonus tracks from the "Heute" sessions never before released on vinyl : the uptempo "Tausend Jahre" and "Katastrophe" the demo version of "Flucht". 2016 repress version including 11x11 cardstock lyrics/artwork sheet..

subsequent pleasures / 12"

Xymox, later known as Clan of Xymox, was founded in Nijmegen, a city in the east of the Netherlands, in 1983 by Ronny Moorings (vocals, guitars, synthesizers) and Anka Wolbert (vocals, bass). Ronny saved up to buy a TEAC 144 4-track tape recorder and the duo relocated to Amsterdam in april of 1983. They began to record songs utilizing a Yamaha CS-15, Korg MS-10 and MS-20, a BOSS Dr. Rhythm DR-55, guitar and effects pedals. Layering drone-like tones of monophonic synthesizers over tape loops, rhythm tracks, guitar, and bass, they created a unique fusion of lush psychedelia and dark, angular atmospherics. The result was a 5-song ep, 'Subsequent Pleasures', was released in 1984 and limited to 500 vinyl copies. It was a precursor to the darkwave sounds of their self-titled debut LP on 4AD Records, which was released the following year. At the time, Anka was designing silk-screened posters for a music venue called Oktopus. She based the sleeve design on a drawing she had done of Ronny lying in the grass that summer and used some cutouts and details of other photos. Today, the record is highly sought after by collectors. One song from the ep, "Muscoviet Musquito", was later re-recorded for the compilation album 'Lonely Is An Eyesore' released by 4AD in 1987. All jackets have been silk-screened with pink and grey paint, using the original plates Anka created in 1984. Each copy includes a fold-out pink newsprint poster with never before seen photos of the band, lyrics and liner notes by Anka and Ronny. See the colors and waves in this deluxe 30th anniversary edition of a classic piece of Dutch history.

world of rubber

Artist : Second Layer

Label : Dark Entries

world of rubber / 2x12"

Second Layer was a side project of Adrian Borland & Graham Bailey, members of post-punk band The Sound. The project was born from early punk band The Outsiders, which had both Graham and Adrian as members. Second Layer featured the voice and guitars of Adrian mixed with the bass and pioneering electronics of Graham. The music was bleak, detached, and desolate, but very beautiful. Honest songwriting and a harsh sonic backdrop set them apart from their peers. The band's 1st 2 singles were released by Tortch label. The 1st was 'Flesh As Property' ep in 1979 and the 2nd 'State Of Emergency' ep in 1980. By 1981 Second Layer had found a home on London-based label Cherry Red and released their debut album 'World Of Rubber' in november of that year. Full of hard mechanical sounds produced by Adrian's guitars and Graham's homemade drum machines, the album actively engages the listener. Songs are manic and twisted, pervaded with haunting subterranean atmospheres. Adrian's anguished voice tackles lyrics that are politically charged and morbidly fixated. Metallic guitar riffs, moody basslines, and Wasp synthesizer beeps are set to the band's cache of processed tape loops. They are a homegrown electronic garage band that sit alongside their contemporaries Joy Division, Cabaret Voltaire and Public Image Limited. This deluxe 2xLP edition features the complete recorded output of Second Layer plus 5 unreleased demos from 1978-80. Each LP comes in an exact replica of the original metallic sliver and black jacket from the 1981 issue with a never seen before fold out poster made by the band in 1980 with liner notes, photos and press clippings. Though Adrian passed away in 1999, his genius lives on in these recordings. Clap the headphones on, squeeze the volume up..!

3 years already after the release of "Angoisses Et Divertissement", Brouillard Définitif is happy to present you, in collaboration with Guerre Froide’s label Flashbacks Futurs, their 2nd album "Abrutir Les Masses" is definitely orientated into the future, still dark but featured of many more rich sounds. Between the tracks "Hypnose" and "Canal Historique", the band attracts us in their personal universe. Well approched lyrics, mindblowing music, attractive refrains, inspired by the society in derivation such as the track "Des Illusions" shows it. Even "Identité Variable" or also "Le Fil" does explains that. Sometimes the mood is more close-friend as on "L'Expérience", a kind of strange variation of a certain "Espérance". We found on this opus somemany tracks already played live, or unreleased till now such as "Sauvage" and "Abrutir", or which are present on the mCD released some months ago with the tracks "Nom" and "Entre Nous", here provided on the new album with a different mixing. Guerre Froide pulls us toward to some new unexpected musical horizons, with various inspirations. 10 tracks showing us that the band still have many things to tell us ;)

land of the damned: 25th anniversary edition / LP

It was more than 25 years ago that Handful Of Snowdrops, a pioneer band and a model to follow in the Canadian Electronic new-wave, released its 1st and mythical album 'Land Of The Damned', which, with own effort, has become an essential and cult piece of music to worship especially amongst all kind of true collectionists and music-lovers, into the most gothic, electronic and darkwave. It can be observed in the growing interest all over the world towards this 1st album, self-produced in 1988 and was reedited in 1990 by the record label C'est La Mort for the American version, a company which disappeared in the 90's and was largely inspired by the UK label 4AD, which introduced many other groups, also pioneer and high-quality, such as The Arms of Someone New, M-1 Alternative, the wonderful 'Voices...... of a Summers Day' by Room Nine, or the remarkable saga of compilations 'Doctor Death's'. Unfortunately, nowadays it is very difficult to obtain a copy of 'Land Of The Damned' in good conditions, and even more difficult to have it at reasonable price. For all that, today Domestica introduce us the official reedition of their debut album in vinyl format, carefully remastered and redesigned for the occasion. Minimal Wave presents us an exquisite 7" release by Martin Lloyd entitled "L'Amant Electronique". The 4 selected tracks were recorded between 1980 and 1984 in his own "Feedback Studios" in Battersea, London. Martin Lloyd delivers vocals via the vocoder and carefully layers synth melodies which range from upbeat and danceable, to what could be the soundtrack to a 1981 post-apocalyptic science fiction film. The record is pressed on white vinyl with a heavy black jacket (spot gloss) and is limited to 999 hand-numbered copies. Very Nice ;)

native state

Artist : Kontravoid

Label : Cititrax

native state / 7"

6th release on Cititrax, Native State by Canadian artist Kontravoid. The name Kontravoid belongs on a limited run cassette circa 1980-something, the type of tape buried in lost upstate dustbins of pre-MIDI analog electronics, wedged between Cabaret Voltaire and Das Ding. The dark industrial and new-wave influences are strong on ex-Crystal Castles drummer Cam Findlay's new project—his voice is scary, like an echoing underwater growl—but the underlying pop melodies always afford a degree of breathing room. After departing as writer/producer for Toronto band Parallels, Findlay has settled into a music venture he can call his own, assuming the identity of this masked alter-ego for what appears to be a permanent ride. On his debut self-titled album, Kontravoid turns to analogue synths to create a dark, brooding pop masterpiece. His brilliant vocals emit a dystopic low-grown, often running through warped effects accompanied by exceptionally stirring arpeggiated synths and washes of sound. Modern touchstones could parallel the likes of John Maus or Trust, but Kontravoid's vision is a much more twisted one, embracing goth influences and yielding a monstrous result that is harder to define. Despite its sonic vampiricism, Kontravoid's music leaves plenty to dance and lose your mind to, but the imagination here goes way beyond these activities exclusively. The tracks presented here, Native State (stream the video) and Cut To Cleanse are exclusive 7" only versions. The record is pressed on clear blue vinyl and comes in a hand silkscreened sleeve, limited edition of 999 numbered copies.

unreal personality / 7"

The Actor is a well known but simultaneously quite obscure minimal wave project that emerged from the Dutch home taping scene of the early 80's. The duo was formed by Marcel Reimer (vocals, keyboards) and Sander Horsthuis (keyboards) in Breda, The Netherlands in late 1981. Influences were DAF, Soft Cell, Depeche Mode and Fad Gadget. Guitars were no option, "because the amplifiers would mar the stage". The Actor caught the attention of cult cassette label Trumpett through their powerful live act and were signed to the label in April 1982. Their 1st, self-produced album was released in September 1982 as 'Exploded View' (an exploded view of a cassette tape was featured on the sleeve): 10 quite simply arranged synth-pop tracks that were dynamic and danceable, with lyrics sung both in English and German, relating to the modern world, fashion, dancing, fame, appearance and self-image. The edition of 400 copies sold out within 6 months. The track featured on this flexi-disc, "Unreal Personality", is the opening track of 'Exploded View' and the archetypical The Actor song, with lyrics directly referring to the band's name. The song was recorded during the summer of 1982. The music and lyrics were written by Marcel Reimer. The song was played and produced by Marcel Reimer and Sander Horsthuis. The equipment they used was the Korg MS-20, Crumar Performer, Casio VL-Tone, and Soundmaster SR-88 drum machine. It has been remastered from its original analog source tape for best possible sound reproduction. Flexi printed on clear flexible vinyl with silver embossed ink, edition of 999 hand-numbered copies accompanied by matte printed postcard of 'August 1975' by Jennifer Griffiths.

Side B turns feral headlined by "Losing Mind", an EBM behemoth driven by loaded industrial percussion and savage singing/shouting. The same severity surfaces in "The Body", "Passion", and "Expanding Room", the latter a tenebrous instrumental marked by clever and infectious bass lines and rhythms. Very limited CD release, containing what is unarguably Luke's best production work thus far. Revisiting Bunker after guest spots on his own Stilleben label and the Catnip eps on which he collaborates with Legowelt, this is one amazing electro album. If you fetishize the imagined futures of darkstyle detroit music, or covet the kind of crazy, minimalistic robot sounds brother ron hardy kept down his trousers, then get this. Electro with a twitch then, eerie voices and a kind of twisted acidlined 'stiff white funk', the mighty Juan Atkins would be rightfully proud. Bad-intentioned vocal fuels the paranoia nearly to breaking point and an all in apocalyptic nightmare setting threatens to take all present gleefully over the edge and into the void. 'Split Personality' more than sums this up; cheery stuff!!. More future, more dark, more of everything than previous Bunkers, more Detroit, just give me more...

Appeared from the alternative Italian stage in the late 80's, Voxzema is one of the most unknown and peculiar bands in the european underground music scene. Despite not having launched any record before its early breakup, they did give a few concerts and, with some luck, you will be able to find 2 of their demos in the strange compilation in cassette format 'Ologenesi' from 1989. Thanks to an exhausting work of musical archaeology, Domestica found their original members and rescued their demos, most of them totally unpublished up to now. With a totally innovative sound, Voxzema is a mixture of electronic/coldwave with psychedelic touches, blunt bases and a deep male voice which may evoke a hybrid between Cassandra Complex and Kas Product, to name some of them... perhaps we're talking about 'cyberpunk'...? Judge yourself! Edition of 250 copies. Presented in a handmade silk-screened sleeve, here in gold version printed on a black textured sleeve (nş 175 to 250) !

untitled / LP

Released back in the spring, the debut album from former Crystal Castles drummer Cameron Findlay's project Kontravoid has proven to be a lot more rewarding than we would have given it credit for at 1st blush. Our initial impression (that although it has some good moments the LP is kind of brief and homogenous) remain valid, but over multiple listens the flaws seem less glaring, and the character of the record more appealing. Arriving in the form of punky-electro by way of early post-industrial, Kontravoid establishes its template, runs with it, and bails before it grows stale or wearisome. One of the best album of 2012!

Artist : Staccato Du Mal

sin destino / LP

New Lp by Staccato du Mal. Freezing out the heat-seeking Miami scene with his cold minimal-synth for the past decade, Ramiro Jeancarlo (half of the industrial outfit Opus Finis) offers up 10 tracks of analogue darkness. Sung in both English and Spanish, the LP is an aura of dread and claustrophobia that without a doubt evokes the brutally hot, dry, lonely landscape of suburban South Florida. But beyond the dismal swamplands, it's possible to detect the mournful ambiance of cultures plagued for centuries by colonization, civil war and political turmoil. Whether Jeancarlo means to offer "Salvation Through Suffering" as an alternative to everything from catholicism to revolutions-turned-tyrannies is not explicit, but the distinctive mood of dread conjures something more monolithic than plain nihilism. Therein lies the fascinating duality: "Lost Image" could as easily land in a soundtrack to a film about a lonesome teen in desolate suburbia as it could a film about Pinochet's Caravan of Death. Despite the disorienting feeling of so much of the album, Staccato's own 'coup d'état' comes in the moments of resolution where warm melodies and nearly psychedelic soundscapes counter the bleakness. While this album could be described as Wierd Records' least commercial release so far, Staccato Du Mal's music is rich with sonic feeling that makes for infinitely rewarding listening. Working within the confines of the minimal-synth genre, Jeancarlo manages to include elements of pop, noise, and industrial that slink to the surface with each eerie listen. Tip !!

domestic landscape (subterranean synth-wave compilation) / LP

Difficult to describe this album without using typical and recurring terms such as: 'extremely weird' or 'very rare to find'.. although it is inarguably true, and on this occasion we have wanted to go farther: we introduce you a selection of songs which, most of them, have never been released in physical format and can't be found in any other digital media until nowadays. Other few were published in very limited editions in cassette format, usually aimed at a local promotion of a kind of music which was totally inaccessible to the crowds, more than 30 years ago.. 'Domestic Landscape' is a compilation formed by 10 groups from all over the world. Some names will be familiar to those who have followed Domestica Records from the start in 2011. 'Domestic Landscape' is not a very common or habitual compilation, at least that is what we intended. Here you will find very different sounds, difficult to label, a range of songs made in a moment which is crucial to us, unknown but, at the same time, wonderful in the endless history of our beloved music. Limited edition of 450 numbered copies. Double side handmade printed cover. Album presented in a special die-cut jacket and heavy green cardboard sleeve. It includes an insert (30x30 cm) with extra information..

A full length album by Dutch electro pioneer, Das Ding. Das Ding is Danny Bosten, who was active in the early 80's releasing his music and friends music via his own cassette label called Tear Apart Tapes. While studying graphic design in art school, he designed all the tape covers himself. Meanwhile, he recorded his own music as Das Ding. Powerful dark electro, some tracks are quite addictive and danceable while others are more for at home listening enjoyment. The dancefloor killer is somewhere between "Reassurance Ritual" and "H.S.T.A.". The record features lovingly remastered tracks, and is pressed on 180 gram vinyl with a printed inner sleeve featuring Danny's drawings... Repress ;)

unreleased & demos 1984-1986: 25th anniversary edition / LP

Long time before Handful Of Snowdrops released their 1st and mythical album 'Land Of The Damned', this cult band originally from Quebec City had produced, since their beginnings in 1984, an amazing amount of demos, although they had never managed to attract the interest and attention of the big record companies, despite their originality. In that moment, there was not a background or collective in Canada where they could fit... these are the very significant words of Jean-Pierre Mercier, co-founder of the band, in a recent interview in the digital magazine 'Subterock.com': "Quebec City was not known for its strong music scene, to say the least. It gave us a kind of freedom and infused us with a carelessness that I’m still grateful to." It was never a reason to give up music, on the contrary; 2 years after their formation, they recorded their most famous song, "Gabrielle", in a different version, in a little study in their hometown, which was later included in their 1st album. With this album we wanted to gather a compilation of some of their best unreleased songs, compounded in different moments but which have the same essence, always encouraged and led by Mercier brothers. All the songs are, up to now, totally unpublished, with the exception of 2 demo versions former to their 1st album ("Face To Face" and "Gabrielle"), and they have been remastered with an enourmous care, as usual, by Yves Roussel. Limited edition of 250 copies, no repress. Includes an insert. Tip !

The original "Shadow" 12" was the artist’s 4th & final vinyl release back in 1987. Beautiful and haunting dark wave with drum machine, dominant smooth bass and guitars on both tracks, simple but as always so effective. This reissue adds the previously unreleased tracks "Miami Beach" to the track list, an early live track dating back to 1982 and recorded at Club Iguana, which is purely electronic, dark, cold, and monotone, you will just love it ! Apart from the great music you'll get a rather unique vinyl colour as there are many (white, red, golden marbled, pink marbled, yellow marbled..). Also going to be a rarity soon, too, as only 300 copies were made and no repress will be made..

A compilation of tape recordings dated 1994-1995, inspired by Der Plan and Andreas Dorau. The artist himself describes this phase of his musical work as "Neue Deutsche Niedlichkeit" ("New German Cuteness"), which accounts very well for the naive charm and playfulness in both themes and music. Still, Das M's songwriting and wonderful sense for catchy melodies are here just as effective as on his other albums, and his style remains quite unmistakable. So, don't miss it!

pleasure / LP

Debut album from Jewels of the Nile, a trio out of Portland with an obvious influence from the dark Northwest. Formed early in 2010 by Meghan Christine & Jessy Montaigne (Subtonix) while playing in their other project Magick Daggers, the 2 bonded over a common love of more primal, downtempo electronic music, also sharing double air in the stars, combining to create a spark of desire to form something that allowed the freedom of complete exploration in music and the world. The 2 are joined by Amity Givens on electric drums and floor tom, bringing driving beats and a dynamic live performance. The music transcends boundaries of dark electronic dance beats, to hints of tropical upbeat tango rhythms, laced with psychedelic reverb and infectious new-wave hooks in others. Lyrics are at times span into a deeper velvet clad register, bringing the suggestion of a more sensuous gnosis. The textures of the multiple synth layers range from pensive organ sounds to bell-like island melodies over tribal beats. Ace ;)

la ůltima emoción

Artist : Europa

Label : Dark Entries

la ůltima emoción / LP

Europa was a short-lived synth-pop group from Valencia, Spain formed in 1980 by Julio 'Nexus' Pastor (synthesizers), Alfonso Aguado (vocals, guitar), Lino Oviańo (vocals, drum machine), and José Luis Macias (synthesizers). The quartet championed the use of synthesizers, drum machines and other polyphonic gadgets in a city that was stuck in the throws of progressive rock. They recorded and released their only album 'La Última Emoción' in 1981 on cassette, released by DAI (Division Avanzada Independiente) a label interested in bands "capable of building electronic sounds from drum machines, sequencers, synths and effects, rather than conventional instruments like guitars and basses". The original issue of 'La Última Emoción' was limited to 500 copies. As part of the Spanish techno-pop movement of the 80's, Europa's songs featured arpeggiated synthesizers and upbeat drum machines that flashback to the sound of Vince Clarke's Depeche Mode days. Comparisons could be made to other Spanish techno-pop bands like Aviador Dro, Vocoder or Metal y Ca but Europa weaved a unique style of driving, energetic rhythms, bouncy keyboards and soaring vocals perfect for dancing or speeding into outer space. In 2010 the original Europa line-up reformed to play a few select live shows celebrating the re-issue of their 1984 cassette 'Máquinas Románticas' on Turia Records. Their sound remains clean, rhythmic and futuristically strange, transporting crowds to another dimension. Each LP includes an 8-page booklet originally housed in the 1981 cassette long-box complete with bi-lingual liner notes, lyrics and photos. 30 years later the futuristic sounds of Europa are ready to usher in another new wave. Just thank you!

Artist : Buzz

Label : Dark Entries

see you sioux / LP

'See You Sioux' cassette by Buzz for the 1st time ever on vinyl. Buzz began as the brainchild of J-C Van Thienen in Lille (France). He released 1 album in 1985, the highly limited demo cassette 'See You Sioux'. In the late 70's and early 80's J-C witnessed the punk explosion while studying and working abroad in England. He regularly attended concerts by Adam and the Antz, The Sound, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Ski Patrol, Spizzenergi, The Cure, interviewing the bands for a fanzine. Returning to France, and feeling inspired, J-C bought a Soundmaster drum machine and 2 2nd-hand synthesizers in 1983. He started composing songs applying the Diy punk ethos akin to Cabaret Voltaire and Fad Gadget, who like him were eccentrics in a pop-rock world. Borrowing a 4-track Portastudio from a friend, J-C recorded 7 songs that would become the skeletons for this album recorded in one take. Buzz combined new-wave dancefloor appeal with the abrasive textures and irreverent attitude of post-punk. The overall sound fits nicely beside their French contemporaries: Opera Multi Steel, Norma Loy, Little Nemo, Taxi Girl, but is more aligned with their Belgian neighbors the Neon Judgement and Trisomie 21. The success of 'See You Sioux' landed Buzz a deal with Danceteria Records, who would release 4 maxi 12" singles from 1986-1989. Around 1990 Buzz took a break, eventually restarting in 2005 with the release of a career spanning compilation and remix album. J-C continues to write and release music today with his project Vuduvox. Each Lp includes a fold-out, double-sided insert with photos, lyrics and liner notes by Anne Clark. 27 years later these demos provide a glimpse of the bleak post-industrial European wasteland as seen from the bedroom window during the French coldwave scene..

Debut album by RedRedRed, a contemporary artist from San Francisco. Michael Wood, formerly of duo Primary Colors, began this project in 2012, taking inspiration from Front 242, Einsturzende Neubauten, Throbbing Gristle, Nietzsche and Sartre. Wood utilizes a simple setup of vintage analog synthesizers and drum machines, and records them on reel-to-reel. 'Pattern Completion' was originally planned as a 4 song cassette ep that was only released digitally. The A-side features remixed and remastered versions of the tracks from the ep. The B-side consists of 4 unreleased tracks, 2 of which are instrumental. The material on 'Pattern Completion' is strongly influenced by Michael's former live/work studio space in the Bayview District of San Francisco, an area surrounded by recycling facilities and water treatment plants. The songs reflect this industrial atmosphere, stacking treated rhythm box patterns, quivering synthesizers, and mechanical vocals. Each LP is housed in a jacket featuring photography by Melissa Joy Bernier and contains a double sided insert 11x11 with lyrics. 'Pattern Completion' develops the strain of futuristic, mutant industrial pioneered by San Francisco groups like Tuxedomoon and Factrix, with RedRedRed adding his own brand of damaged angular rhythms..

world in a tear / LP

New project by Alaxis Andreas G, the mastermind behind Le Syndicat Electronique and numerous other analog electronic, experimental and esoteric industrial folk projects. Alaxis formed Bruta Non Calculant in 2006 along with his brother Victor-Yann (De Frontanel). Their debut album, 'World In A Tear', presents 10 tracks drenched in a dark european atmosphere complete with a sound fully formed and heroically executed. Themes of death, lust and unrequited love are all bound in this brown book-esque collection. The songs occupy their own space and communicate in their own language and as such almost seem to have the ability to alter time once the listener has succumbed to their discordant beauty. An unsurprisingly impressive comeback, Bruta Non Calculant's debut album blends new wave elements with folkloric balladry impeccably, and approaches this with a modern sensibility. 'World In A Tear' is an elegant collection of seductive songs. Vinyl pressed on ultra clear 160gr housed in a matte full color printed sleeve limited to 999 copies..

archives / LP

Altres are a band from Dundee, Scotland who originally formed in 1983. They were playing mostly instrumental, improvised electronic music at a time when very few bands, if any, were making this type of music in the UK. The Altres' initial line-up was Jeremy Bryning (synths), Joseph Donnelly (synths), Kevin L. Guthrie (synths, sequencer, drum machine), Brian Hutton (synths, sequencer, vocoder), Mike Nelson (guitar) and Maurice Richardson (synths, sequencer, polysynth, drum machine). The band's influences included Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Philip Glass, Throbbing Gristle, Faust and many others, but their sound is clearly their own. After a few months of recording the band had a lot of material on tape, so they decided to release their 1st cassette 'Rise' in 1984. Within that year the band managed to release 4 more cassettes: 'Live At The Tayside Bar', 'Archive One', 'Archive 2' and 'Angel Chords & Devil Chords'. The 'best' tracks from each of the cassettes have been chosen for this special 7 song compilation album entitled 'Archives'. Most Altres compositions begin with a sequence and a drum pattern. These wrap around arpeggiated synth pulses, and are accompanied by shrill feedback. Instruments used on the recordings include Casio MT40 Moog Prodigy, EDP Wasp, Roland SH-101, Casio VL-Tone, Korg MS20, MS50, SQ10 Poly-61, Ibanez guitar and vocoder. All of the instruments are fed through various effects and echo units. Everything is played and recorded live – there are no overdubs. The vinyl comes housed in a neon green jacket featuring the original design from the 'Rise' cassette by Mike Nelson. Each LP includes a photocopied clear acetate with notes from the band for each song. Prepare to get lost in the majestic, melancholic and melodic world of Altres.

untitled / LP

Another superb reissue from Seattle's Medical Records, plucking Dorothea Raukes' 1981 album "Deutsche Wertarbeit" from krautrock obscurity and resissuing it on red vinyl in a limited run of 500 copies. Dorothea was in a tiny minority of German frauleins to work in krautrock circles, 1st with her Düsseldorf band Streetmark (she recorded 4 albums as their lead singerin between '76-'81) and later as a solo artist for Sky Records. She's responsible for all all the sounds on "Deutsche Wertarbeit", finding an endearing blend of sensibilities, from the rhythm driven pop of the NDW to the spacey textures and ambience of Klaus Schulze. Her canny melodic character shines through cheeseball keys of "Guten Abend, Leute", but doesn't shy away from darker tones like with "Unter Tage". Best of all is he proto-tranz glide of "Auf Engelsflügeln", which is pretty much worth the cost of entry alone, while the electric grey drama of "Intercity Rheingold" and "Der Gross Atem" seal the deal. Really feeling this..! REPRESS edition..

lonely streets remixes / 12"

Minimal Wave's sublabel Cititrax takes an old sound in a new direction entirely, giving electro-punk band Futurisk's classic "Lonely Streets", a modern shake-up through a remix package from current artists. The 1st remix by synth legend Chris Carter (aka Throbbing Gristle, Chris & Cosey), whose version is one that we would have dreamed of doing back in 1982. DFA artist Prince Language's version captures the feel of the song nicely with the use of all the stems, especially the real drum tracks that were part of Futurisk's signature sound, stirring up the no-wave styles that also influenced the band at the time. It is also a pleasure to hear Tom Furse's (aka The Horrors) Moroder-esque electro-punk take, sounding like a missing track from a late 70′s sci-fi flick. Finally UK Complexxion's track with the feel and approach of Arthur Baker, Martin Rushent, Daniel Miller and Kraftwerk of course, all of which were big influences on the members of Futurisk. Lovely surprise ;)

New music from Brooklyn based synth duo Innergaze. Their 2nd LP, 'Mutual Dreaming' is a highly anticipated release and we're ecstatic that the vinyl is finally out. Innergaze drag us slightly further back into the glorious cradle of dance music. Their music, crushed and static, obscured by sound. EBM, coldwave, early techno fight it out for dominance of the drum machine. Casually brutal vocals force their way through from the Death Factory. As if Chris & Cosey's dalliances with the Eurythmics had conjured a restless pioneering demon to duet with Annie Lenox but had instead ended up consuming her. Celestial synths coexisting with the industrial landscape bellow. 'Sleeping City' is the highly anticipated and Anna’s 2nd release in co-operation with the Mannequin label from Rome. Intelligence Dept. were Davide Carlotti, Susanna Zaghi, Stefano Panzera and Gian Paolo Di Federico from Ferrara (Italy). They only ever officially released 3, yet totally amazing tracks on the 'A White Chance' Lp compilation in 1984 on White Studio Recording. These tracks were "Sleeping City", "Too Late To Love" and "Anger (Inside)". In 1985 they recorded a 2nd 4-track demo entitled 'The Big Trouble' but not many people seem to have known about its existence. Intelligence Dept.'s music is a unique blend of melancholic 80's electro-pop with dark/new-wave basses and saxophone action while being fronted by a powerful female vocalist, the lovely Susanna. Intelligence Dept. surely had a great potential to become a bigger or more successful band, but those were the times, like many others they faded into obscurity… but were not forgotten, so here we offer them and you a 2nd chance with the retrospective compilations of the band's works. The vinyl version features all 4 band's compositions from the 'Sleeping City' cassette and all 4 tracks from the 'The Big Trouble' cassette. Whaoh..

The Turkish girl band Kim Ki O was already present on the Enfant Terrible compilation "Radio Resistencia". Next to that they released 2 very limited cd-r’s by themselves and already toured in Scandinavia. "Dans" is the official debut of Kim Ki O and features 6 lo-fi pop songs which at times are extremely catchy but never too easy or slick in anyway. At other times the music is more tranquil and becomes hypnotic dream pop that will soothe you, but hasn’t a single dull moment. Kim Ki O’s music is perfect lo-fi indie pop with that vibrant touch of the modern metropolis Istanbul they come from. Very evident are the New Order inspired melancholy melodies, the Casiotone For The Painfully Alone like cheap and charming electronic rhythms and that special 4AD sort of quality throughout the songs. With this debut mini album the band launches themselves into the world of music. Kim Ki O is for sure a band to keep an eye on.. ;)

They perform the perfect mixture of early 80’s electro-pop and NDW, paired with German lyrics being entertaining in a funny way. The tunes are very catchy, melodic though with some darker melancholic undertones. “Gestern” closes a first chapter being a flashback compiling five years of recording songs. sacred islands of the mad / LP

Highly limited 2nd cassette by British duo Nagamatzu for the first time ever on vinyl. "Sacred Islands Of The Mad" is a collection of 11 tracks recorded between december 1984 and march 1986 in London by Andrew Lagowski on synths, guitar, and drum machines & Stephen Jarvis on synths, bass and programming. Nagamatzu began in 1982 after messing around with old tape machines and drum boxes, making numerous contributions to international compilations and erratically releasing their own cassettes. Their music reflects his influence and incorporates carefully chosen samples from the Challenger shuttle disaster, Gregorian chants and films including "Dawn Of The Dead" and "The Omen". All the songs were recorded onto a Ferrograph reel to reel in a small room at their parent's house and some of the backing rhythms and sequencers were recorded 1st onto cassette and then the band played along live. Nagamatzu’s instrumentals combine stuttering bass, guitar bursts and funeral keyboards draped over a dragging drum machine beat, calling to mind Clock DVA, Cabaret Voltaire and early New Order or Cocteau Twins. "Sacred Islands Of The Mad" is a complex, textured tapestry of sound full of dark electronics, fresh harmonies and danceable rhythms. All songs have been remastered especially for vinyl from the original cassette masters. Limited to 500 hand-numbered copies and including a newsprint zine full of fliers, gig tickets, ads, and photos.. Essential archive ;)

embellishment collection 1 / LP

Interesting compilation released in 1990 with some forgotten songs from the 80's... Music in it is absolutely unpredictable, shifting from loops experiments with noises and voices (Cruel When Complete, Systema Scrotum), minimal electronics (Min Vän, Porslinshundens Vän, End...) to dementous synth-pop/ndw songs like Meddelande Fran Rymden by Injury wich could have been a track from Guyver's Connection... But highlight goes to the swedish project Njurmännen with their powerfull Injured By Punishing Gods track. Dope !

Another gratefully received Bunker repress. The title track is fully paid up, card carrying, certified rampant bass monsta, Miami in the Hague style, with high grade dope scratches and fly edits from Dj Overdose and Technician and all round b-boy don status assured. True ghetto tech with all the bits, will have you attempting headspins, even against doctor’s advice. You know it makes sense. The Shit !

Cracking album from Gerhard Potuznik. Electronic pop tribute to New Order's real songs, though the vocals veer into Ian Curtis territory. Eclectic and pure at the sametime !

Artist : G.D. Luxxe

Label : Suction

vendetta / 12"

Vendetta is a vocal 5-track ep from GD Luxxe (aka Gerhard Potuznik from Vienna - Austria). Electro-pop music that would not sound at home on the International DJ Gigolos label (this is not techno music dressed in black leather and florescent pink gloves, no). Timeless variety electronic music. Here GD Luxxe takes the sound of classic-era New Order as a starting point, and makes his own statement for 2002. Honest, memorable, and sincere tracks for the home and for the dancefloor !

Legendary German obscure new-wave/ndw band from the 80's. 3 songs between minimal-electro, analog-techno and new-wave influences. The all driven by heavy punk orientations. Unique...

Artist : Experiment Nnord

Label : NLW

untitled / 7"

These 2 tracks shows the more poppy side of this German band with some minimal-electro influences. They are not too close to the good old typical new-wave sound of the band and so seemed to be the perfect choice for a release on Hamburg-based NLW label. Intelligent German lyrics and male/female vocals, combined with gorgeous melodies show Experiment Nnord as an outstanding act. "Neue Welt" is a one of the greatest singable song ever !

zeux, das sein muss / 7"

First release on NLW's brand new vinyl-only sub-label, this exciting and dangerously addictive little record presents 4 minimal-trash-electro-wave tracks from today (2007) and yesterday ('84, '86), from 4 projects by or with Haiko Erden. All 4 are equally effective "earworms" and each listening to this record carries a 12-hour-good-mood-gaurantee. Definitely a thrilling debut!

Re-released of two intense and emotional forgotten tracks by this US band originaly released as a 7" single on Blotto Records in 1982 which nowadays is impossible to find. Including the slightly weirder and previously unreleased post-punk track "Crayola Psychosis" (written in 1980, recorded in 1984). Great !
