Artist : Max Vincent

Label : Discom

beograd / LP

When preparing their 1st debut LP release Max Vincent 'The Future Has Designed Us', Discom aimed to create a comprehensive compilation of songs that essentially portrayed Max's captivating lifework. And while the album itself was a success, a few good tracks sadly did not make the cut, but they never stopped believing that some day they'll get to publish them. Indeed, their faith paid off when Max's mother, Slobodanka Popovic called Discom one morning to say that she had found 2 large, dusty boxes packed with cassettes, tapes, papers, drawings, lyrics, scripts etc.. In retrospect, it is hard to convey just how interesting a person Max was, let alone describe in a few words the treasures they discovered in there. Suffice to say that they found much more than music! Discom journeyed through his life, wandered through his past and, for the 1st time ever, were able to grasp his music completely. The new LP, Max Vincent 'Beograd, is a result of this amazing discovery. It consists of 8 previously unreleased tracks from 1986-1999 which Max intended to use in one concept album (a combination of socially engaged writing and musical biography). Dedicated to the memory of Max Vincent (1967-2004). Limited to 500 copies..!

The result represents one of the group's boldest creative endeavors, defying expectations while remaining unmistakably Dopplereffekt. 'Cellular Automata' is the 3rd Dopplereffekt release to come out via Leisure System, following 2013's 'Tetrahymena' and 2014's 'Hypnagogia'. Steel..

universal hologram

Artist : Obergman

Label : Borft

universal hologram / 12"

Another excursion for the genre independent Börft label. Celebrated artist Obergman delivers a 6 tracker record for fans of acid and electro. The release is initiated with the drexciyan styled electro track "Germination" with occasional strings that brings some light in the atmosphere of desolate landscapes, followed by the groovy electrotech melodic track "Unexpected Connection", the acid techno workout "Acid Healing" slowly builds with sweet melodic strings into floorfilling potential while the B-side begins with "Inflatable". A bass ridden driving acid techno track with ominous melodic stabs that works well when doing a build-up mix into more frenzy territory. B2 track "Greenglow" explores rocking acid lines bonded by delicate smooth Detroit styled strings. Last track of the record "Universal Hologram" is a strong beautiful electro track with great electric pulses, melancholic atmosphere and subtle strings..

Label : Nancy Records

highway superstar / 7"

afraid to cry

Artist : Night Sticks

Label : Waving Hands Records

afraid to cry / 7"

Night Sticks, as they intriguing define themself, is a 'completely obscure synthesizer duo from Sweden'."Afraid To Cry" is like something out from the 80's pioneeristic post punk / synthwave /minimal synth cassette scene. It opens and closes with a female/male conversation in the Swedish language, driven by a circular wave of synth sequences alongside a whispered voice repeating the refrain 'so I afraid to cry', alternated with 'so I afraid to try/die' variations, it's a mesmerizing and hypnotic fragile track that brings warmth and deepness to a usually cold genre, while remaining melodic and sophisticated, at the end it leaves me bizarrely with a pleasant minimal far melody of Visage's "Fade To Grey". The flip instead is a not less attractive, slighty EBM flavoured, danceable number which channels D.A.F.'s electro period with Alan Vega-like minimal punkabilly vocals. Tip !!

deine stimme ist der ursprung jeglicher gewalt

Artist : Die Selektion

Label : Aufnahme + Wiedergabe

deine stimme ist der ursprung jeglicher gewalt / LP

The trio from Stuttgart and Lucerne (Luca Gillian, Hannes Rief & Samuel Savenberg) Die Selektion released their 2nd album 'Deine Stimme Ist Der Ursprung Jeglicher Gewalt'. Impressive production that appears on the Berlin label aufnahme + wiedergabe. These new tracks from Die Selektion are dark, wavy and full of bass and sharp synths. Sung in German and rather strict and serious. Sometimes industrial, sometimes new-wave, the arpeggios and programmed synth melodies give the drive into the songs and give an Electric Body Music flow. Variety and suspense are often provided by a trumpet that is used heroically over the sometimes aggressive beats. Massive LP !

Artist : The Horrorist

Label : Aufnahme + Wiedergabe

programmed / 12"

The Horrorist (aka Oliver Chesler) is a revolutionary, comedian and party monster in one. The New Yorker is still best known for his earliest work: tracks like the infamous "One Night In NYC", "Mission Extacy", "Metal Man" and his debut album 'Manic Panic'. But he's been continually kicking out records—with just as much clout—since the mid-90's. Gabber, hardcore, techno, EBM, electro and spoken word typically all find their way onto a single release. The Horrorist is most effective, though, when the production is militant, the beats are marching and the lyrics are simplistic. Sex, drugs and violence are some of the things he sings about. Sometimes it's silly, other times it's soberingly serious. "Programmed" for Philipp Strobel's aufnahme + wiedergabe label, is a reflection on life as a computer simulation. Like most of Chesler's music, it sounds vintage. It's an EBM track that could be filed next to Fixmer / McCarthy's revivalist style. Chesler's delivery is more deadpan than normal, which fits the severity of the track—this is definitely one of his more somber ones. Silent Servant highlights this with his remix, turning Chesler's monologue into a morbid drone behind anxious synth stabs. Thomas P. Heckmann ups the paranoia in his rushing remix, whilst Lado delivers a chugging techno version, simply using key words and warping them into grotty snarls. There's plenty here for Horrorist beginners to get acquainted with, but, for the rest of us, not enough from the man himself. The good news is that there's an album on the way, and this indeed serves as a solid primer. Limited edition of 500 copies !

shifting allegiance

Artist : SARIN

Label : Aufnahme + Wiedergabe

shifting allegiance / 12"

One of the most evil projects currently emerging from the electronic underground, SΛRIN combines terrorizing industrial with menacing EBM and black shades of techno wave and more. Mastered and cut by Christoph Grote-Beverborg at Dubplates & Mastering. Limited edition of 500 copies !

Artist : Veil Of Light

Label : Aufnahme + Wiedergabe

ursprung / LP

A cold booming electronic beat, echoing snares, a floating layer of distant guitar noise and an urging voice hiding behind this wall of sound. 'Ursprung' is a welcome and immediate statement of arrival for a still relatively young band, who infuse a familiar template with a new blast of spleen and vigor. This is pure cold wave greatness.. White vinyl version limited to 300 copies and including a download code. Highly Recommended..!

Artist : Ruth & Mushy

Label : Aufnahme + Wiedergabe

polaroïd/roman/photo/remix / 12"

Remixes of Ruth's 80's minimal synth original gem "Polaroid/Roman/Photo". Originally released in a limited edition run of 600 handnumbered vinyl records.

Artist : Facit

Label : Kaften

vaxdockan / 7"

On A-side: beautiful Swedish song cover from the film Vaxdockan (from 1962, written by Lars Forssell & Ulrik Neumannon), about a man growing up still playing with his dolls. Beautiful naif nursery rhyme style set to beautifully bittersweet synth. B-side is its cold, wipe clean inverse, placing blunt repetitive intonation against stepping cold wave groove. A dark helping hand, trying to reach out..

Artist : Claus Fovea

Label : Kaften

€urotrash / 7"

2nd 7" on KäfTen is dark energic synth tones from Claus Fovea that will make you dance your socks off. This release, this artist; just something special! Analog, raw but real good sound, especially for being a 7" release... Highly Recommended!

ofrivilliga rörelser

Artist : Skitungen

Label : Kaften

ofrivilliga rörelser / 7"

Sweet little gem from towLie's KäfTen labeL , the 1st out in the black & white 7" series with a killer minimal synth-pop track and a super sad remix from the great Swedish minimal synth-wave act Facit (aka Joakim Karlsson & Mai Nestor). Recommended to all those looking for a fusion of minimal wave & DFA-style. Repetetive & hypnotizing !

the floor mixes

Artist : Five Times Of Dust / Unovidual & Tara Cross

Label : Minimal Wave

the floor mixes / 12"

2 classic Minimal Wave tracks which have been on heavy rotation for years now, "Computer Bank" and "Like I Am, Comme Je Suis" remixed by The Floor (aka Veronica Vasicka & Karl O'Connor). Five Times Of Dust was formed in Bristol (UK) in 1981 by Mark Phillips & Rob Lawrence. Mark had answered an advert that Rob had placed in a local record shop and later that year they went on to record and release their 1st tape, 'The Dadacomputer'. A standout track from that tape, "Computer Bank" is a seminal, 'proto-techno banger'. The Floor remixed it a while ago to Dj it out and since then have been receiving many requests about where it could be purchased. The flip side features Unovidual & Tara Cross' "Like I Am / Comme Je Suis". It appeared on MW 1st compilation entitled 'The Lost Tapes' LP, released in 2006. Unovidual was a Belgian producer involved with the Micrart Group (Autumn, Linear Movement, Twilight Ritual) and Tara Cross, a 'long lost girl from Brooklyn' who used to play in small NYC downlown clubs alongside Madonna during the early 80's when she was still an unknown. Unovidual & Tara collaborated on several tracks through the mail during this time as well as in the studio. "Like I Am / Comme Je Suis" was recorded in a studio in Ghent (Belgium), in 1985. We find both of these tracks prime examples of innovative and pioneering synth wave tracks that work on and off the dancefloor. And through these mixes, The Floor aim to stay true to the artists' original intentions whilst making the songs more dancefloor oriented. Featured alongside these remixes, are 2 unreleased tracks. Rob Lawrence's "Armoured Car" which at one point was released on a compilation CD as Robert (not to be confused with Rob Doran from Hard Corps) and Unovidual's "Imponative", a beautiful minimal synth track which has remained unreleased to this day. The Five Times Of Dust / Unovidual & Tara Cross ep is pressed on standard weight royal blue clear vinyl and housed in a hand stamped disco sleeve. Limited to 600 numbered copies..!

Artist : Das Ding

Label : Minimal Wave

kindheitsmuster / 7"

7” single of 2 early demos ("Kindheitsmuster" and "Raid") by Dutch electronic music pioneer Das Ding. The final versions of these tracks were released on 'H.S.T.A.' and the 'Missing Tapes', respectively. The versions here are the most raw and electric recordings we have heard by Das Ding yet. Danny Bosten formed Das Ding as a solo project in the early 80's and released his music and friends' music via his own cassette label called Tear Apart Tapes. At the time, he was studying graphic design at art school, and in turn he ended up designing the artwork, cassette-sleeves and illustrations for the label himself. Meanwhile, he recorded his own music as Das Ding. Powerful dark electro, he made several addictive and danceable tracks which later become Minimal Wave hits. Danny made all his music in his bedroom which essentially turned into a small recording studio. He went on to release many of his own tapes and also played some live gigs. Old tapes were uncovered around 2010, and Minimal Wave released a remastered version of 'H.S.T.A.' and select other tracks. A wave of renewed interest followed the record's release and soon people were in touch to propose live shows. 20 years later, and after some deliberation, Das Ding was reincarnated under its old moniker but now with a revised line-up and a working set-up that reflected inevitable technological change. The 'Kindheitsmuster / Raid' 7" is pressed on black vinyl, featuring a photograph that Danny Bosten took during his art school days, and the inspiration for the cover drawing of the 'H.S.T.A.' cassette release from 1982. The 7" is limited to 500 numbered copies.

je ai dissous

Artist : In Aeternam Vale + Anneq

Label : Minimal Wave

je ai dissous / 12"

Unique collaboration between one of our long time favorite artists, In Aeternam Vale & Anneq, a stunning young Madrid-based vocalist originally from Minsk, Belarus. In Aeternam Vale & Anneq met in 2011 and began to collaborate in 2015. In Aeternam Vale, originally from Lyon, has been making synthesizer based electronic music since the early 80's, when he began to self-release many of his recordings on cassette. As the years went on his cold and caustic synthpunk sound, often primitive and hypnotic evolved into rhythmic, throbbing music for the dancefloor, his own unique style of techno. On this record, In Aeternam Vale & Anneq come together to create 2 very different versions of the same track, one fit for the club and the other a more intimate version, for quiet listening at home. "Je Ai Dissous", the opener, is a dark smoky track with a hypnotic, cyclical underlay reminiscent of early industrial music while the Page R version of the same track trandscends the floor and becomes completely filmic. Anneq's seductive vocal is suspended in a beatless, cavernous void. Side-B opens with "Tendencia", a very classic catchy minimal wave style track, sung in Spanish. The V6 version of Tendencia again focuses on Anneq's voice set in a darker, slower more atmospheric melody. The 4 tracks culminate in an elegant and thoughtful collaboration from these 2 strong talents that complement one another so well. The 'Je Ai Dissous' ep is pressed on 160gr deep purple 'spilled' inside electric blue transparent vinyl, limited to 999 copies and housed in a gloss printed sleeve..!

promises & infatuation

Artist : Borusiade / The Sixteen Steps

Label : Cititrax

promises & infatuation / 12"

Split ep by 2 massive talents, Borusiade & The Sixteen Steps. Borusiade, originally from Bucharest (Romania) began as a Dj in the early 2000's and then started producing music in 2005. With a background in classical music, she combined her love of raw electronics, obscure themes and melodic lines to create her own signature sound. She has released on the Co?meme label as well as Corresepondent. "Infatuation" and "Confutation" are dark, moody and intense tracks that catch you upon 1st listen. The flip side of the 'Promises And Infatuation' ep features The Sixteen Steps, the brainchild of George Lanham who cut his musical teeth Djing and running events in the south of England. We have been listening to many of his tracks endlessly for a while now. They've also been a highlight of Veronica Vasicka's Dj sets as of late. "Signals From The South" and "Promises On The Run" are both immaculately produced, hypnotic, dancefloor killers. They are sparse EBM meets smoky warehouse techno, and offer a wonderful contrast to Borusiade's layered emotive tracks that reminisce of an East Village club in the 80's. Themes of infatuation, appearances, and anonymity appear throughout this ep from the music itself right through to the cover art. Limited edition vinyl pressing of 999 copies. Our copies are one of the first 500 pressed on black inside milky clear vinyl (each record is one of a kind), housed in a matte printed sleeve..! Nice !!

Artist : Job Sifre

Label : Knekelhuis

bestaan / 12"

Job Sifre is one of the guys bringing new blood into the Amsterdam scene. 'Bestaan' is the follow-up to his recently released debut on the new Artifical Dance label. Charged with a pharmaceutically-enhanced restlessness, this new 12" goes on darker, tuffer, kinkier than Sifre's previous 12", gradually bringing the energies to simmering point with the smudged EBM roil and blunted Dutch vox of "Bestaan", then working a wicked ruts of White House White-styled jakbeat in "Zodiak" and the sourer, metallic recoil of "Mars Express", and properly making your body wurk with the pendulous tattoo, "Zeno Dicho" before sloping off into the darkroom with the slower disco admission, "At Least We Try". Beautiful complementary artwork by Stefan Unkovic. Tip!!

Laurène Exposito is back with a follow up to her well received debut album from last year on Knekelhuis. This new record turned out to be very personal. Nice Work ;)

disparate elements / 12"

Further Reductions is the live project of husband and wife Shawn (aka Vapauteen, 400ppm, Led Er Est) and Katie O'Sullivan (aka Rose E Kross, ppG), based in New York City. Back in 2014 they released their gorgeous debut album on Cititrax Records. The album is an adventurous trip where they pushed forward a very unique sound. After all those years there will be a follow up by this ep on Knekelhuis. Expect a fusion of different sounds, being grimy and pretty at the same time..!

kale plankieren - dutch cassette rarities 1981 - 1985 volume I

Artist : Various

Label : Knekelhuis

kale plankieren - dutch cassette rarities 1981 - 1985 volume I / LP

Featuring a wide range of artists (Das Ding, Plus Instruments, De Fabriek for a start!) from the Amsterdam Fetish scene and cities such as Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague and Zwolle. It gives a glimpse into the artistic DiY music movement that was growing extensively outside of mainstream circles. The beautifully printed record sleeve was designed by Steele Bonus. It includes liner notes (in English and Dutch) that paint a great picture of the context where these bands and artists lived and breathed. It is compiled by Mark van de Maat and mastered by Rude 66.

m appeal

Artist : Smersh

Label : Knekelhuis

m appeal / 12"

Smersh was the much revered project of New Jersey duo Mike Mangino & Chris Shepard. Together they recorded more than 30 albums throughout the 80's and early 90's. Their vision: rehearsal at monday night, record their improvisations, no live performances, only albums. 'M Appeal' compiled archive tracks certainly recorded in the mid 80's. Nieuwegein's most warped mind Parrish Smith, on remix duty.. TIP!
