Artist : Doris Norton

Label : Mannequin

personal computer / LP

34th anniversary reissue edition ! Doris Norton was Apple's 1st music "endorsement" and Roland affiliate, and is one of the most important female pioneers in the use of synths and in the early electro computer music field. 'Personal Computer' showcases some computer game-style workouts along with some really canny cuts in the tricksy metrics of "Caution Radiation Norton" and the psychedelic wig-out "A.D.A. Converter".. In 1980, Norton began her solo career by recording at Fontana Studio 7, the Milan studio of the composer and musician Tito Fontana, resulting in the electronic opera 'Under Ground'. Norton became more prolific, continuing her adventures in experimental electronics and computer music with 'Parapsycho' (1981), 'Raptus' (1981), 'Nortoncomputerforpeace' (1983), 'PC' (1984) (whose album cover prominently features Apple's colored logo) and 'Artificial Intelligence' (1985). While the beat-oriented style of Norton's music aligns her with such global fellow-travelers as Yellow Magic Orchestra and Kraftwerk, her championing of the personal computer as a tool for self-sufficient musical creativity also connects her to more artsy musicians such as Pietro Grossi, Laurie Spiegel and the League Of Automatic Music Composers. Norton's predilection for the bright, glossy timbres of early digital instruments also recalls Hubert Bognermayr and Harald Zuschrader's bizarre 1982 one-off Erdenklang. Later, her talent and expertise attracted the attention of IBM, who in 1986 named her as an official consultant. Already the reigning queen of the Italian electronic scene, she recorded 2 CDs for IBM: 'Automatic Feeling' and 'The Double Side Of The Science'. Influenced by her son, the musician and producer Rexanthony, Norton brought her fascination with the early days of techno into the 90's, when she released 3 volumes of 'Techno Shock' on Italian trance/hardcore label Sound Of The Bomb. While her music remains largely out of print and inaccessible, Norton's early records have recently begun to receive the inevitable rediscovery treatment.

nortoncomputerforpeace / LP

35th anniversary reissue edition ! Doris Norton was Apple's 1st music "endorsement" and Roland affiliate, and is one of the most important female pioneers in the use of synths and in the early electro computer music field. This 3rd album of experimental computer works is anther peach, and includes the beautifully lush 10 minute medieval/prog regression "Don't Shoot At Animals" and the whirling psychedelia of "Iran No Ra".. As a teenager, Norton was drawn to medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music, not to mention quantum physics, differential equations, organic chemistry, the experimentalism of John Cage and animated movie soundtracks. Her love for modules and circuits found expression through the waves of an old harmonium, the frequencies of a Minimoog, a Roland System 100M, a Roland System 700 and the ARP 2500/2600. 3rd studio album, 'Nortoncomputerforpeace' involved Doris Norton, Antonius Rex and Rudy Luksch (hardware engineer). "Don't Shoot At Animals" was used as original soundtrack for the RAI tv program 'Rumore Di Fondo' directed by Umberto Marino.

untitled

Artist : Group A

Label : Mannequin

untitled / 12"

Berlin-based, Japanese industrial synth duo Group A's debut on Mannequin Records. Tommi Tokyo & Sayaka Botanic play pinball on your synapses with the body-sparking metal dance jabs of their eponymous debut as Group A for Mannequin. Over the last few years the duo have built up cult acclaim thru a tight handful of self-released CDrs and tapes and their incendiary live shows in Tokyo and more recently Berlin, which they now call home, bringing them to their 1st record proper. A-side is given to the zinging bullet train momentum of "T.O.P.", where they hammer out a martial tattoo of drum machines, shark-toothed 16th note arpeggios and robotic vocals which, rather brilliantly, work at the intended 45rpm for brisk pacing, or at 33rpm +8, if you're that way inclined. Think Factory Floor meet radioactive buttplugs. B-side, they channel that energy into something like a distant, numbed echo of The Neon Judgement's 'The Fashion Party' with illegible vocals delivered by an 8-bit gremlin, then trap your swede in a maze of psychotomimetic delays to emulate the most intense nitrous buzz of yer lyf.

tapes

9.99€

Artist : Alessandro Adriani

Label : Mannequin

tapes / 12"

Mannequin's boss Alessandro Adriani has certainly stepped out from the shadows from his retrospective leaning label to create some brilliant modern EBM/industrial derivatives, that still give a respectful nod to their origins. For his newest release, he presents us with some fairly fierce offerings. "A Man Who Would Come Here Of His Own Free Will" is tough, acid-infused EBM that lunges for right he jugular. A does "He Is Everything And Nothing", the kind of techno-punk that's reminiscent of past work with Douglas Lee as An-I: could it possibly be him on vocals? Finally on the flip, the brooding darkwave of "You Never Sleep" features lovably cheesy 80's synth leads and Silent Servant style howls through walls of delay and distortion. You can just imagine PVC clad goths sweating it out to this one, in basements from Berlin to L.A.

dust on common

13.79€

Artist : Led Er Est

Label : Mannequin

dust on common / LP

2017 reissue of one the best minimal-synth / coldwave albums of the past 15 years. 'Dust On Common' from Led Er Est (aka Sam De La Osa, Shawn O'Sullivan & Owen Hutchinson) was originally released in 2009 by the seminal Brooklyn based record label Wierd Records. The band's 1st LP showed the 3 pieces clearly breaking out the minimal-synth underground they have been a vitally integral part of since its inception in Brooklyn to create an undeniably contemporary set of highly crafted and restrained, icily psychedelic pop songs.

take suicide

13.29€

Artist : Flo & Andrew

Label : Mannequin

take suicide / 12"

One of the holy grail of the minimal-synth and one of the most obscure musical projects ever produced in Italy. Finally reissued on Mannequin Records. Originally released in 1981 by Broadbean Records, a sub-label of LM Records, Flo & Andrew's only release 'Take Suicide' was home-recorded and home-mixed by the duo in Bologna, using early drum machines, analog synthesizers, guitar, saxophone, tape loops. Flo & Andrew's music is truly unique and exemplifies the fact that limitation can be the perfect source for creativity. The title-track "To Committ Suicide" travel through contort and nervous synth sounds and loops, taking somehow inspiration from the no-wave heroes, while "Japanese Girls" is nothing less than a beautiful minimal electronics track in the mythology of the futuristic rise of Japanse country. Recently (re)discovered, 'Take Suicide' is a milestone of the european minimal-synth singles and is not really a coincidence that a young generation of producers take it as inspiration. Another must have in your collection ! (Black vinyl)

vitrioli

17.49€

Artist : Selofan

Label : Fabrika Records

vitrioli / LP

With 4 acclaimed studio albums already under their belt, the Athens-based synth / coldwave duo Selofan announces 'Vitrioli', their 5th and most staggering album yet. A well-known purveyor of allusive, synth-infused coldwave music and the driving force behind the Greek label, Fabrika Records, Selofan followed the siren call of the 80's goth sounds and minimalism, carving out their own spot at the forefront of independent wave music scene. The seasoned hunters constantly digging for new dramas and passions to grace their visual intention and musical charm, the band specialize in deep, cold & racy analog sounds- but have always been favored along with howling vocals, well-distilled synths and heartbroken sax when it comes to the occasional shootout between genre trenches. Across 'Vitrioli''s 11 heart-wrenching love songs and odes to the failures and hysterias of the subculture, Selofan brilliantly express the band's main themes they've been exploring since their existence: that there is dark humor in emotional vulnerability, that one can find a way to laugh and cry in the same breath – and get stronger. The sound of 'Vitrioli' is intense, inflammatory and sometimes harrowing- the record taps into the depths of madness: chanelling a lover's call to arms, power of self-awareness and brutal rawness of desperation, love and hate conflict colliding into devastating effects. Famously provocative, Selofan create an unpopulated dramatic realm where sad lovers shapeshift into a destructive, obsessive, ambitious persona with a driven desire. Limited edition of 400 hand-numbered copies on white vinyl along with download code insert !!

dear shore

Artist : Tango Mangalore

Label : Fabrika Records

dear shore / LP

Tango Mangalore is an one man project of a sole sailor from Athens, Greece that focuses on the obscure and bizarre folklore around the world of the Sea. Driven by maritime curiosities, the morbidity of the Sea itself and its numerous tales, the sailor narrates weird oceanic tales in a loosely based synthesizer music of a spooky, lonesome, dramatic, mutant, theatrical and often self sarcastic atmosphere with a touch of cynical black humor and naughty-cal romance. Recorded during the earthly years 2016-2017 both at the Indian Ocean and the Shore. Limited to 500 hand-numbered copies with download link and lyrics on innersleeves..

la bombe plastique

9.49€

Artist : Dr. C. Stein

Label : Artificial Dance

la bombe plastique / 12"

Great sliver of electro-pop audnuss from Belgium's Dr. C. Stein (aka Dutch minimal waver Hanjo Erkamp of Doxa Sinistra and Ende Shneafliet), whom you may remember from the Treue Um Treue releases released in 2006 and 2007. Interstellar Funk's Artificial Dance label is behind this one, giving both sides a super crisp 45rpm cut to best present their fine binds of stepping electro with slippery accordion (?) lines and mad vocoder in nervy, sprung dynamics. A-side's "La Bombe Plastique" (original) works at a clean-heeled 140bpm clip, balancing the speed with more romantic synth and vocal cadence, whereas B-side's edit is slower, working at 126bpm in a more spaciously timed and kerned rearrangement.

beograd

19.99€

Artist : Max Vincent

Label : Discom

beograd / LP

When preparing their 1st debut LP release Max Vincent 'The Future Has Designed Us', Discom aimed to create a comprehensive compilation of songs that essentially portrayed Max's captivating lifework. And while the album itself was a success, a few good tracks sadly did not make the cut, but they never stopped believing that some day they'll get to publish them. Indeed, their faith paid off when Max's mother, Slobodanka Popovic called Discom one morning to say that she had found 2 large, dusty boxes packed with cassettes, tapes, papers, drawings, lyrics, scripts etc.. In retrospect, it is hard to convey just how interesting a person Max was, let alone describe in a few words the treasures they discovered in there. Suffice to say that they found much more than music! Discom journeyed through his life, wandered through his past and, for the 1st time ever, were able to grasp his music completely. The new LP, Max Vincent 'Beograd, is a result of this amazing discovery. It consists of 8 previously unreleased tracks from 1986-1999 which Max intended to use in one concept album (a combination of socially engaged writing and musical biography). Dedicated to the memory of Max Vincent (1967-2004). Limited to 500 copies..!
